881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / What (Ethash) MHash/sec is it better to switch to solo mining? on: October 02, 2016, 03:11:58 PM
I am thinking of maybe switching to mining solo or setting up a private pool to point to for me and my friends. I was wondering if this is still feasible and at what hash-rate(s) one would need to make it more practical versus pool mining.

Say what would one need to find roughly a block (5 ETH) per day? The calculators show roughly 1GH (1000 MH/sec) but would like to hear from anyone who is actually doing it.
882  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH being dumped now! on: October 02, 2016, 10:18:35 AM
I wish I could take a picture of my forum feed, every post is ETH being dumped followed by ETH Soaring!  Huh

The ETC pumpers will claim the ETH dumps and the ETC dumps will speak out the ETH pumps. So it depends on which one you like.

I have sold out all my ETC in the last few weeks. As I believe that the ETC dump will come out very soon, maybe in the next 4 weeks.
I think it will not dump or drop again if you compare the graph or chart of etc and ETH they are the same movement.. and looks like the ETC will live long in market places.. its still in top 6 in coin marketcap its still safe to hold..

etc will be pumped when eth will go pos, because miner will pump that to attract new investors, for their profit, the old fork instead i don't think will increase much more will remain there like any other pos coin, stagnating without an end
Well if it will happen that ETH will be POS soon Yeah you have a point ETC will boom just like ethereum before.
But for now there is no news about eth that they will convert into POS.

If the Ethereum goes into PoS, the miners will not support it, so the community will be smaller and price will drop.

I think the opposite. Right now most of the so called miner's support consists of mining the coin and selling it right away to recoup costs and secure some ROI. It is this reality that is keeping the selling pressure on ETH and the price down.

After POS hits, mining costs will be a fraction of what they are now in terms of electrical costs, so the incentive to hold longer will become greater. Once miners are not dumping daily, the price will tend to rise assuming the same level of demand. Most of the miners you feel are part of the community will move on to mine another coin. So even if this part of the community gets smaller, it is not like miners are buying their own coins to begin with, so this should not cause anything but positive upward pressure on price.

Similar thing happened with Bitcoin, although in a different way since Bitcoin is still PoW, in that once the mining moved out of the basement's of people who mined and dumped and into larger more professionally run farms the price began to rise. These profession farms are managed and located in a way in which maximum efficiency is obtained at the lowest costs, so the pressure to sell at a slight profit is less.
883  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: CRYPTSY stopping withdraw locking accounts without notifying users! Class Action on: October 02, 2016, 10:01:06 AM
Why is HORUS making himself at HOME in Poloniex chat ?
That F***f*** A**h**** was a big part of this scam he should be in Jail not making jokes in the Poloniex Trollbox..

I had seen that too and was wondering if it was the same Horus. I don't know why he is even allowed to post there much less carry on to everyone in the trollbox like nothing happened. I am already hesitant to do much trading on Poloniex ever since the ETC stunt, and with this it is looking more and more like they are associated with  many of the same behind-the-scenes people as Cryptsy was.
884  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question on PCI-E USB Powered Risers VER # on: October 02, 2016, 09:44:50 AM
yeah so i was searching for some time and found it actualy those are not so expensive, altho i dont think those will work straight with pci-e 12v as they power them via sata for 5 and 12v unless im wrong. Figure it out as You know better and let me know :>
there You go https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/PCI-E-1x-to-16x-mining_60509800570.html

Wow, I bow before your Google skills!  Wink  If you actually look at the board, you can see that they've actually populated a bunch of the unused spaces on the riser, so I think it's pretty safe to say that they're doing the 12v -> 5v stepdown on the riser.

I found a slightly different version that I liked a bit more and shot them an email to get some to do some testing with... I'm not certain that I like it better than sidehack's solution, but it's certainly worth evaluating.

It is this version?
https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/PCI-E-x1-to-x-16_60536973971.html

Those risers do look boss. Would be interested to hear how they work out. Assuming they are the real deal, if someone were to do a bulk order and would want to sell some off in the US, I would interested in acquiring a few dozen.

For now I ended up going with a narrow design that I found on ebay (seller in Texas) which has a 4-pin connector on the riser and this uses a small cable to connect to a regular molex feed. No version number on the board that I could find. I only ordered 6 to test with and installed them all before I could snap a picture. I have a second larger order coming in now that I know they work and will take a few pictures and post.
885  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question on PCI-E USB Powered Risers VER # on: October 02, 2016, 09:35:54 AM
I did some research and realized that "my" super-duper riser doesn't have 5->3,3 voltage stepdown so it must be used through sata adapter.
I also found info on AMD site that excessive current draw over PCIE slot was a driver issue and was fixed.
Theoretically GPU can draw up to 5,5A that way while SATA connector can withstain just 4,5A, but real draw should be smaller now (Markaz rig shows ~3A per GPU).

With 6pin cards it will be probably around 25% more (?)

If I am interpreting the picture correctly, it looks like the cards are drawing ~3A each from the PCIe power connectors on the card from the 12V rail and another ~0.9A each from the 5V rail through the riser's Molex connectors. This seems a bit low for total card wattage power draw as these figures indicate only ~ 40 watts total draw per card.

887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 18 Graphics cards radeon GTX 380 mining ETC and going negative (please help me) on: September 27, 2016, 12:27:28 AM
How is this possible guys? Their is no way the pool has been fucking me over for this long?

The rates I posted above is what I should be getting!

Cards say I am at 120 hash per 6 on one rig and I have 3...

Anyone have any idea?

I cant believe nanopool has been fucking me over for this long... Is this possible, I dont understand how this would be possible they cant be fucking over the miners this bad...

You need to l earn to check your pool earnings more frequently. Not saying Nanopool is screwing you over, but mining does require due diligence on your part. The easiest way to check would be to switch to another pool for a day and compare earnings.
888  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Ratio Not consistent between coins on: September 26, 2016, 08:50:28 AM
Thanks a lot man!

Do you know how I would calculate how effective my GPU would be for different scrypt coins?

Is there a calculation with difficulty?

Go to http://www.whattomine.com/coins

There you can enter in your GPU's hashrate on various algorithms (coins) as well as your card's power usage and your electricity rate to get a ballpark figure of where you would end up with different coins.

That's exactly one of my questions...

So on scrypt, my hashrate will be the same across all coins?

On X11, my hashrate will be the same across all coins?

Yes, each coin that falls under a single algorithm would have pretty much the same hash-rate across all the coins using it. So for instance Ethereum (ETH), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Expanse (EXP) using Ethash would all use the same hash-rate figure. Where it gets tricky is they all have vastly different "Network" hashrates, so the actual amount of coins you will produce will vary. This is why the comparison sites like What-to-mine work so well.
889  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is earning bitcoin Boring? on: September 25, 2016, 11:34:39 PM
If your goal is simply to acquire Bitcoin, your best bet is to work at a job your are good at and that pays well and use that income to buy Bitcoin every now and then.

A signature campaign is meant to give you a tiny amount of income for doing what you would be doing anyway for free, namely posting in a forum like this. The only reason it would become boring is if instead of posting because you want to and are reading replying to things that are of interest to you, you are focused on the income aspect of it.

As some have mentioned, trading is a good way to earn and is definitely not boring. This will especially be true when you first start out as you will most likely lose more than you will gain.
890  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Genesis Mining Presents: sgminer-gm - with Ethereum support! on: September 25, 2016, 07:58:01 PM
Can anyone tell me if this miner does stale share submits?  It didn't look like it does, and maybe someone can save me the trouble of digging through the source code.

It does submit the stale shares. I saw in the command window, it says stale share detected, submitting.

Yes, it looks to have stales submitted by default. I believe you can disable this behavior with the
Code:
--no-submit-stale
in command line or with
Code:
"no-submit-stale" : true
in the config file.

892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Power On Network on: September 25, 2016, 09:24:45 AM
It is hard to tell exactly as a lot of what you say comes across as gibberish. From the little bit I have been able to pick out from your posts it sounds a lot like you are being asked to join in some type of pyramid scheme.

List of quotes from you that make me think this:

  • "I'm not trying to pitch an opportunity. Well not yet I'm not"
  • "opportunities in other crypto currencies"
  • "This is launching in October and I've been given a position which is free for now, but to earn I will need to invest."
  • "made millions from this by being in early and building a large team"
  • "There are no links etc and it's invite only so far"
  • "there are only 100 or so in and the master distributor made an absolute fortune"
  • "resigned when the company changed their management team and it appears to be going downhill fast"

Most such schemes don't come out and call themselves a business, but they do lay on marketing terms and use hype words such as "opportunity". It is also an unpaid "position" where you have to invest to make money, which is another warning sign.

Further you indicate you need to join early and recruit a team, probably a team of people under you in the pyramid. Also the use of the term "master distributor" who made a fortune because he was at the top of the pyramid. You could maybe ask some of the lower level members of the "team" what they made, they probably lost a fortune.

Also there is more hype in that someone "made millions", and again a large team is mentioned, however there is no other information about this company and its by "invite only". Finally the sad ending of all such schemes "going downhill fast."

My advice, stay away and don't get involved. Even if you did manage to get in near the top, you would still be swindling those who get in under you, so in any scenario it sounds like a bad situation.
893  Other / Off-topic / Re: How long would take to break a 13 character password on: September 25, 2016, 04:58:37 AM
Why even screw around? If you can come up with a 13 character password, add another few characters and some more randomness to it.

I wouldn't go for anything less than 16 characters for anything online, and if it is for something of significance you should be looking closer at 24 character + lengths, with lots of randomness, mixed case, numbers, and special symbols.

Here is another good site to glean some information on passwords. https://www.grc.com/haystack.htm

However, as others have already pointed out, do not use any passwords you actually intend to use at this or any of these sites, instead simply create similar test passwords to what you are thinking of using.
894  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Guys you can build mining rig with the amount of $100? on: September 24, 2016, 09:36:27 PM
For $100 you need to look into used PCs. You can probably pick up functioning PC for under $100, just make sure it has a PCIe 16x slot. The GPU you may also find for used, but if you have a few more $ you can get a new XFX - AMD Radeon R7 370 2GB on clearance from Best Buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/xfx-amd-radeon-r7-370-2gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card-black-gray/8278108.p?skuId=8278108

So if you can find a garage sale PC with a 16x PCIe slot for $50 and this card, you can be mining for about $160.

The R7 370, is only good for (if good for something) Ethereum, and with 2Go, you won't go far away. Better take a 1060 with 3Go. I know that's not the purpose of the thread but I'd not like begginers to get fooled.

Considering his budget, I suggested a feasible (not ideal) solution, and already it would put him $60 over. Plus he did call out AMD. Unfortunately there are not a lot of good options for such a low budget even with used and clearance priced parts.
895  Other / Off-topic / Re: What will you do if you own 21 BTC? on: September 24, 2016, 09:23:36 PM
If I had 21 BTC, I would probably acquire one more to make it 22. I like even numbers. Wink

Some of you are probably thinking I could also sell one as well, to make it a even 20. But really look at 20 and 22 typed next to each other. As it is plain to see, 22 is clearly the more attractive number.

I like bitcoins, i don't see numbers, so i would not just acquire one but would try to increase them as much as i can so that i can have way more than that in coming time when bitcoin will be way higher than what it is right now.

yes we need to try to have as maximum amount of coins as possible as it will be surely holding some higher price in future so its better to keep on multiplying them for future.

Obviously I would also like to acquire as many Bitcoins as possible just like everyone else, my response was meant to be more lighthearted. People need to loosen up a bit around here and relax more, don't be so serious all the time.
896  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Genesis Mining Presents: sgminer-gm - with Ethereum support! on: September 24, 2016, 09:39:08 AM
Another point I noticed is that Claymore seems to Overestimate the Hash versus Pool Side and this miner seems to Underestimate the hash compared to pool side - I am certainly not going to complain about it,  sure is a nice bonus

This observation is in line with my own experiences thus far with the sgminer-gm's results. Pool side (Ethermine) shows a consistent (now for over 24 hours) +2 Mhash average (per rig) above what sgminer is reporting locally in the console. With the Claymore miner, I always had a higher locally reported hashrate than the pool ever showed. At the time I attributed this as normal because of the Dev fee and other general overhead losses such as stales, etc. I haven't tried running sgminer on other pools yet to confirm this, but plan to do so in the upcoming days.

The other observation I have noticed is that the peaks and valleys on the individual miner hashrate graphs at the Ethermine site are a lot smoother. Under the Claymore miner the current effective hashrate line would deviate quite a bit both on the high and low sides from the 24 hour average line. With sgminer this fluctuation (ripple) has flattened considerably.
897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone having luck with Sgminer-gm on: September 24, 2016, 04:52:06 AM
I am sure this is a great miner but without an info on drivers etc it is a pain in the butt.  I have yet to find any reliable driver or settings to use.

It appears I am not the only one as there is scarce info on it being used on any forum.  It is like giving someone a Ferrari and Free Gas (compared to Claymore) and no engine.

If this helps any i got mine up to 19 MH stable about what it should do : heres my sgminer.conf after a few days of playing with it, with Claymore i could only get it to do 17 MH tops and driver radeon-crimson-15.12-win10-64bit.

Just curious if you tried the suggestion from Eliovp earlier on using "256*16384" to get the raw intensity setting. In this case it would be a value of: 4194304

I ask as on a couple of my rigs I was using a rawintenstiy similar to the one you have above and by bumping it up to 4194304 I gained another .5 Mhash/sec per card. It would be interesting to hear of others experiences on this as not all of my rigs respond the same.
898  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question on PCI-E USB Powered Risers VER # on: September 24, 2016, 04:12:10 AM
Are you buying 2.0 or 3.0 usb cables for replacement?

USB 3.0; these are the exact cables I use:

http://amzn.to/2dnlAeb

I use them in all my builds, and haven't had an issue yet - I use slightly longer than normal because of how I position the cards relative to the motherboard, but I'm sure they also have smaller ones from the same manufacturer:

Nice rig! Thanks for the information on the bad USB cables. It never occurred to me these might go bad, although now in hindsight it seems obvious. I will need to re-check my "bad" ones now with new cables.

I am also interested the HDMI dummy plugs you are using. Do you have a link or preferred vendor for those? Thanks!
899  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question on PCI-E USB Powered Risers VER # on: September 24, 2016, 04:08:16 AM
Im using VER003 (green PCB) and VER006 (black PCB) for all my builds .

VER003 arrived with 24 inch blue USB cable
VER006 with 20 inch black USB cable

VER003 have a M193 G1084-33 voltage regulator
VER006 have a FS1084 voltage regulator

Both regulators have On-chip thermal shutdown protection( provides protection against any combination of overload and ambient temperature that would create excessive junction temperature )

In the past few months i had to replace only one riser ( VER 006 ) , i had no time to check what was the problem , maybe just a USB cable .

Thanks for the feedback, this is the type of information I was hoping for. I will look into the VER 006, as only so far have seen up to VER 005 boards.
900  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How much do you earn with mining? on: September 24, 2016, 03:54:10 AM
I am agree with you sir, nowadays even you are going to buy some special hardware miner it still not profitable if you are going to use it to mine bitcoin , you need to find a solar system power to provide cheap electicity than can help you to over power the miner, the passive income for me to earn bitcoin is to do some signature campaign like this.

Yeah me too. Signature campaign is one of the easiest ways to earn some Bitcoin without risking yourself like cloud mining. It is nice income for you while at the same time you learn more about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. I'm looking to switch out to solar mining by the way, so in the meantime I will stick with coin staking as it is energy efficient.  Smiley
Solar isn't the best choice, so I hope that you've already looked into it enough that you understand the initial investment needed and the risk factor; the panels are pretty easily damaged in adverse weather conditions, no matter how it's advertised. Coin staking is a pretty nice passive income, but most of the stakeable coins aren't traded much, with the exception of PPC.

If you're looking at solar for fun, go ahead- I run a few gridseed miners off of a battery in my garage, and it runs just fine. It's definitely interesting to see solar panels get more and more efficient; maybe someday actual mining with them will be possible.

I have actually been looking at solar as well. While it is true if you look at it from a purely Mining aspect, it probably isn't justified, but considering you consume electricity outside of mining activities, it is an investment that will continue to pay off over time. As far as the panels being damaged in storms, that is what homeowners insurance is for.
