+1 that is how I feel too. I hope Bitfinnex changes this because those order walls are really screwing up price discovery! I've come to really dislike the Flash Return Rate. I'll try and be articulate about why...
The problem as I see it, is that it's currently the only option for offering swaps at a variable rate, and the only option to offer automatically at a rate that adjusts (somewhat) to market conditions. If you want to be fairly hands-off and automated about things, it's kind of the only game in town. It's normally nowhere near an optimal rate to be offering at - being either too high when rates are decreasing and everyone jumps in front of it, or far too low when rates have headed back up (see also: right now), but without any other auto-rate options it gets heavily used.
So we get, most of the time, an enormous wall of offers all placed at the single FRR, making it very difficult for the rate to rise higher - the FRR keeps slipping down as the average diminishes, until there's enough pressure to chew through it all at once (or possibly by 30-day swaps being taken over the head of the FRR-wall) and the rate suddenly spikes upwards, dragging the FRR reluctantly upward with it.
So that's my thesis - FRR is a magnet for a giant heap of offers from those who don't have the free time required for manual management, or who want to avoid being stuck in a poorly placed fixed-rate swap, and its effect on the market is to produce that weird sawtooth pattern in swap rates, with sharp increases followed by slow deteriorations. I really wish there were better options for an automated rate. Or even just more options so as to spread the pile out a bit more. If we could set offers at a fixed offset away from the FRR, or have fixed-rate offers that are automatically placed at a certain 'depth' into the book of offers, or have a tracker rate that's slightly more responsive (a weighted moving average of recent fixed-rate swaps rather than a simple average rate?)... then I would be so happy.
I second that, never a big fan of FRR. Btw, USD swap dropped quite a bit ......

With the new POR system you don't have to mine at all, just keep your wallet open and collect your coins while running Boinc! That is it! What could be better than that? No hefty power bills!!!! Everything you make will be pure profit! I used to mine a lot of different coins with my Rigs and those power bills at the end of the month are atrocious. Unless you can get super cheap or free electricity, mining pretty soon will be very expensive and risky proposition.

Thanks for the TIP! I switched to chrome and it worked! I have been trying to use the Omni wallet to send my maidsafe coins out, but when I press send it just hangs there and doesn't do anything. Anyone have this issue?

Diff is @ 105, WOW! This is a first for GRC! The hash rate is really ramping up now!

Actually the supply is the same, it is just a decimal point shift. What will be the new MAX supply of GridCoins then? (after the PoR fork)
Cheers!
After switching protocol there will be around 320kk GRC (i.e. 10 times supply of GRC-classic). Next 9 months will follow a decaying subsidy reward schedule: http://www.gridcoin.us/guides/gridcoinpor.pdfAfter our first year there will be fixed inflation around 0.3% per year to compensate nodes for doing computational research and network security. this was chosen instead of discounting for fees per transaction. Investors had several votes to decide on these metrics and how to ensure long-term participation. The decisions are documented here: https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/464-gridcoin-grc/

You will prob have to put in how many threads to use for cpu mining. That is why it is prob using 60% cpu time!
Please upgrade as early as possible so we can avoid hard fork issues.
Running the upgrade shuts down any instances of cgminer running under command prompt (observed on two Win7 machines so far). GRC used to do this but it was fixed weeks ago. No big deal, but it requires a bit of intervention when it happens. Perhaps an old fix has come undone. Thanks, looking for it. I just noticed the Rebuild Blockchain shuts down other running instances of cgminer also. Normal startups do not though. I am trying the rebuild because I got stuck at block 185476 - no sync, despite several restarts. Edit: Update. The blockchain rebuild is chugging along - hours to go yet. However on another core i7 Win7 machine Task Manager reports that gridcoin-qt is taking 60% of CPU time. My wife had noticed that cursor movement had become erratic when GRC was running and returned to normal when she shut it off. No sync problem with it though. Something seems to be amiss with the upgraded version but I will not be able to look any deeper for half a day or so.

You have to open a support ticket on Poloniex otherwise you will not see your coins. I think due to the switchover they have instituted some kind of manual approval system or something, what bothers me about Poloniex is that their support is silent on why these delays are happening, I have inquired multiple times, but so far onle silence. For the time being I have decided to stop using them till this situation is resolved. Hi,
i have a problem.
Yesterday i have sent an amount of GRC from my Wallet to my Poloniex Gridcoin deposit Adress. but didnt receive it yet...
here the details:
Amount: -50137.78 GRC Transaction-ID: a0b13d043f01f8d7ec218fce595eb99c13abaadd17444f2bcb21902ae17b8af0
Status: 0/offline, wurde noch nicht erfolgreich übertragen (not yet transferred successfully) Datum: 27.09.2014 03:53
there is also a question mark left to the date. (0 out of 6 confirmations)
help appreciated..thanks :-)
poloniex trouble thread: https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/16765-poloniex-grc-problemsthanks for the link...so it just takes more time than usual that coins will appear in the balance, right?

Have you tried depositing? I tried a small 10 grc test deposit the other day and after 24h it is still not in my acc, If I don't open a ticket it will prob never show up! Unless they have implemented some kind of manual review for deposits, I don't know what the problem is! I know some have complained about deposit delays, but I have had not issues trading and withdrawing from Poloniex. https://poloniex.com/exchange/btc_grcThere is a mandatory update coming tomorrow so make sure the exchanges are up to date before depositing/withdrawing.

Gridcoin is doing a hardfork over the weekend, so you might want to wait till that clears up before starting anything! Hi, did the cpu mining change since january? At that time I had to log me in on boinc with my gridcoin-adress. Now I logged in in the project I participate (peom@home) with christopbergmann I modified my .conf (added the email-adress I set when signing up at poem@home). Then I startet gridcoin-qt. Boinc is running, the project is running, my cpu is completely used. But in gridcoin-qt I can't access the mining-console. When I click it just nothing happens. The debug-file says: 2014-09-26 17:06:23 Starting Gridcoin PoB miner 2014-09-26 17:06:23 {GNP}.z1...PoBMiner{ST}..{GNP}All projects exhausted. Sleeping...
2014-09-26 17:06:25 Cannot reach credit check node... Checking main chain
2014-09-26 17:06:25 .WTBHF.Adding index @ height 184934 .. .RLB.WUT:.SW..ATW.o1.o2...UPD_SPT.;SC_I_C_B;Committing 1 changed transactions to coin database...
and it repeats: oBMiner{ST}..{GNP}All projects exhausted. Sleeping...
I think I'm not mining yet ...

I hope we get picked up by some of the other bigger exchanges, because the current ones are very dodgy! I am sure it will happen eventually! +1 well done. "Proof of Research" i love it. Great Coin :-) was Mining it since january! Thanks to the development team and people who put a lot of effort and time into this project. Bittrex is hopefully seeing that and reacts in a respective way by adding Gridcoin. Gridcoin is going to see the stars soon! more than 10000 satoshi are most likely possible since its really the one and only coins which definetly has a connection to real life activities and proofed research Thanks a lot!

Is it possible there is some kind of port blocking happening on Windows or on the router? Hi
I can't sync gridcoin-qt: no blocksource available.
I wrote the gridcoin.cfg and saved it in the appdata/gridcoin-folder, but when I start qt I get the message: configuration file emptry.
Can somebody help?
edit: I had the issue in already in january. On my PC gridcoin-qt doesn't work, on the laptop it does. Now I hoped with the new version of gridcoin it could work. I have another router and another network-car since then, but it hadn't changed.
Thank you

I had another GRC deposit get stuck and it took them 3 days, what bothers me is that they give no explanation for the delay despite repeated inquiry! The GRC wallet is working properly so the problem is on their end! My experiences with Poloniex are bad too. It was my first (and for sure my LAST) trade there and I withdrawed some Qora - but the coins never arrived my wallet. I am waiting now about 5 days for an answer - I created several tickets, but nothing than "we are working" is the result. Seems they are not interested in customers!

We need to get GRC on a good exchange, if there is such a thing. Poloniex is starting to smell bad and C-cex are absolute crooks!

Sounds interesting, but the dev Rob doesn't really post much here because too many bad actors, he posts in cryptocointalk! Do you have any particular projects or ideas you want to do with Gridcoin?? Hey Gridcoin, let's work together? ... ethical coins unite ..., let's join forces for specific projects.
Do you have a specific project that relates to science and are looking for a support partner, if so call on Einsteinium we will do what we can to forward your project.
Support partners usually will pledge to retweet, provide comments, likes, small donations, and endorsements for specific events they choose to get involved with.
Einsteinium is a 'cause coin' we seek to provide funding for science endeavors, we are seeking project partners for small projects involving: educational science. science fairs, science instructors (teachers, professors, mentors, etc ...), or anything else that has a heavy science influence.
