$400 seems a little expensive for a modded RPi2?

also, can you buy this thing with bitcoin? no? well...
Wait, you can't buy it with bitcoin? For all they seem to be trying to promote bitcoin, that's pretty dumb...
922  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 21 Bitcoin Computer or Cloud Mining Website ? on: September 22, 2015, 12:59:49 AM
Hold

I have invested in cloud mining, but just small amounts I could afford to lose. 2BTC is too much to invest it all. Perhaps 0.5 in cloud mining and the other 1.5 BTC hold.

How about 0 BTC in cloud mining...it's not worth putting any money into. You're throwing it away.
923  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Rollin.io - 1,000,000,000 bets giveaway! on: September 22, 2015, 12:59:14 AM
My rollin username is RGBKey, for giveaway #4 obviously. Thanks for the giveaway!
924  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The 21 Bitcoin Computer on: September 22, 2015, 12:57:32 AM

Yes, full nodes are good too, but I still think this is a good way to support the network, albeit an expensive one.

Only if these miners mined on a p2p pool or solo-mined and encouraged decentralization of mining. It seems to be that it will merely grow one of the large mining pools however and one of the pools that people cannot direct their hashing power away from unlike some of the others.

If you simply wanted to hash to support the network you would be better off buying an s7 and mining yourself on p2p pool and possibly breaking even and turning a profit (provided cheap electricity) rather than only making back 20% of your investment (assuming free electric with 21)
I never said it was effectively helping the network. But it is helping. Not very well, but helping.
925  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Circle approved for BitLicense, new "All USD" wallet app to be announced. on: September 22, 2015, 12:55:11 AM
So what is the general consensus of buying bitcoins? I still use circle and am worried about this... I would prefer to use exchange sites like local bitcoins, but they don't have any users in the town I'm in currently Sad
I use coinbase in the US, I don't trust circle yet, they haven't been in business long enough.

Coinbase has to follow the same rules under KYC/AML guidelines. So there's no big difference. Both will close your accounts and freeze transactions immdiately if they think something is suspicious. Just have read at r/Bitcoin of how many people complained about coinbase and their service.
I suppose I haven't thought about that, and I try to stay away from /r/bitcoin, because well, reddit.
926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen to blacklisted coins? on: September 22, 2015, 12:53:38 AM
No coins have been blacklisted afaik, nobody ever allowed such a system to come into existance.
927  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has anyone seen the Google Donation Popup thing? on: September 22, 2015, 12:52:26 AM
MOAS[1] is accepting BTC donations via bitpay.

Good to see that at least someone is accepting donations straight through bitcoin, this is good news.
928  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Drugs with Bitcoin ? on: September 22, 2015, 12:50:59 AM
I hate threads like this because this is the reason people still assosiate bitcoin with only illegal activity.

It's hard to fight this thing and it will be hard to fight this allegation for a long time to come in the Bitcoin future. You know, this is what people have first heard about Bitcoin, so that first impression tends to stay here very long time, especially when this is the principal ammunition of all of the trolls out there and Bitcoin non-believers.

Bitcoin will just have to have many more positive use cases recognized by the general public in the future, in order for this to fade away.
That's what I'm hoping for, I'm just saying the continual discussion of it on the forums doesn't help the appearance much.
929  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cloudmining on bitcause.org on: September 22, 2015, 12:45:31 AM
It's a bad idea to buy "cloud mining" from a newbie announcing a new website. Smells like a scam, HYIP at least.
930  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The 21 Bitcoin Computer on: September 22, 2015, 12:44:32 AM
It isn't about breaking even by using the hashing power as a revenue model.

Some might ask why a device engineer would desire such a thing. Isn’t the purpose of bitcoin mining simply to get rich — or not, as the case may be? Well, at 21 we are less concerned with bitcoin as a financial instrument and more interested in bitcoin as a protocol — and particularly in the industrial uses of bitcoin enabled by embedded mining.

That's all fine and well... but you are discussing the future and we are discussing this product and whether people should buy it or not.
There are better ways to be altruistic to support the bitcoin ecosystem if that is what you are implying.
Yes, full nodes are good too, but I still think this is a good way to support the network, albeit an expensive one.
931  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Caelus; We will launch a bitcoin satellite to space! (Join Us!) on: September 22, 2015, 12:43:01 AM
Make sure you put some way to update software on it if that's possible...wouldn't want it running outdated software.
932  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The 21 Bitcoin Computer on: September 22, 2015, 12:41:27 AM
Yeah, I think the purpose of the mining chip is more to secure bitcoin than to turn a profit. My mistake.
933  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitRich The fastest earning bitcoin app on: September 22, 2015, 12:39:59 AM
Did you guys really expect there to be someone that spent the time to develop an app just to give money away? Don't be so naive.
934  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: CoinRPG! A Bitcoin RPG Game! on: September 22, 2015, 12:38:38 AM
I used to play this, it was a pretty clunky game but it was very fun and I enjoyed it. Shame it's not running anymore.
935  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you wish you could buy with btc ? on: September 22, 2015, 12:37:17 AM
i wish i could buy a better gaming rig for my pc
or a gaming laptop with btc without converting it to fiat
Well you can buy amazon gift cards through gyft, but I suppose that does involve converting to fiat. It's still pretty easy.
936  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you holding your bitcoin for a price increase? on: September 22, 2015, 12:36:38 AM
This thread is pretty interesting, seeing the number of people that view bitcoin just as an investment and not a technology.
937  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New Chemical love site no tor needed on: September 22, 2015, 12:36:02 AM
Anything big enough will get more attention by everyone including governments, if it gets as big as the silk road it will be shut down eventually.
938  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How about community takeover? on: September 22, 2015, 12:34:55 AM
Very true. Now where's your code so we can see if it is better than Core and XT?
This is the problem that people don't consider, these people have committed most of their time towards debating what is best and developing software. That's not cheap or easy.
939  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin accepted here.. Just to not be accepted :( on: September 22, 2015, 12:34:11 AM
How lazy are they, they even didn't take down that sign. I bet few bitcoiners already doomed by that sign before you.
Maybe other store which accept bitcoin through bitpay could stopped accept bitcoin in future Sad

I think other bitcoin companies such as Coinbase or Xapo should replace BitPay

Is this really a solution? It still won't be direct p2p bitcoin trade. You still can have company which could be attacked by hackers or worse discredit itself like bitpay did. And I thought that bitcoin community is aiming to be independent and free from 3rd party payment processors.

After hearing op's story I wonder now how many of these "Bitcoin accepted here" signs are in reality fake useless piece of cardboard.

I think it's a clever ploy to attract business. You draw Bitcoin users attention to your business and when you want to pay, they tell you that they do not accept BTC

anymore, and you have to pay with another payment option. It has happened to me before, so I now ask them before I use their service or buy their products.

They are not too lazy to take the sign down... It's just marketing gimmick to pull more customers.

True, this tactic its called bait and switch, while I haven’t seen this tactic used with bitcoin, I have seen this used with other products.
Which is funny because I think quite a small number of customers would be brought in by such a sign.

Stop spreading your FUD, bitcoin isn't even close to dead, we've got more ideas and funding than ever.
