What do we know about drexme:
...
Created a giveaway, collected 35k Nxt, deleted Giveaway topic. This is Drexme's giveaway account:
http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=7161646874450697154
9 days ago it was cashed out to the Dgex...

That's a little disconcerting to me as I donated 1k NXT to him to give away.  It may not be much to most people here, but I live paycheck-to-paycheck so that 1k was not an insignificant sum to me.

But perhaps I'm jumping to conclusions and should wait until more info is available.

yes i put in 2500 to the donation fund as well.  Lynxx had volunteered to step up and help out in he forums by taking it over so I was about to hand it over to him/her.  More info is unfolding, supposedly there is an answer but Im not liking it so far, please stay tuned.

THIEF ALERT:

We have been maintaining a Nextcoin forums donation giveaway fund that held around 35K of NXT in it, I noticed this morning that it had nearly been drained.  GCInc/Graviton and I did some inverstigation and apparently board member Drexme transferred it all to his DGEX account, sold it for BTC, and skated off with the funds.

This script is cool, but you could make it perfect if it checked each node in the generated string if the node is alive and provides current block info and not stuck somewhere behind Smiley people don't want to put stuck nodes in their configs. Besides, users who don't run public nodes, don't want to mess with the config much, there still should be a predefined set of nodes already in the config. But that's up to the developers to include that in the downloadable NXT package.

yes, your tool is great as is but would be absolutely FANTASTIC if you can put a little vetting into it.  A node wouldnt necessarily have to have 100% latest block, also keep in mind that due to local orphans, etc that 2 nodes could have the latest block#, and their web interface would report latest blockID and latest block height#, and while their APIs may return the correct latest blockID, the API may return different block#'s  so keep that in mind.

We would LOVE to feature your tool on the NXT Foundations Latest/Critical Info web site at http://info.nxtcrypto.org

Since most transaction fees obtains the one who has the most to the NXT account.
I established this account: 5116094607402271611
It is a fund (or pool if you want).
I plan to collect on it as much as possible NXT.
If you find this interesting and want to join, send as many as you like NXT (min.10 that it had any relevance)
Once mined some NXT will be divided in the ratio of investment by individual contributors.
Thanks to all for your interest.

Epic....

Why?
Do you think it's a bad idea?

its a bad idea. there is no difference if you mined with 10 coins or pooled your 10 coins. you'll earn the same amount. and not have just sent them off to a stranger.

its a good idea if you can trust the pool owner to

#1 be honest about the whole deal
#2 be 100% vigilant on keeping the pooled account forging nearly 100% of the time

Obviously with the beta-level client we are running, and its issues, stability has been sort of a problem, and I guess if you want to hand off that responsibility to the pool owner, you may end up with a bit more fees earned over time.

Everyone who hasn't yet voted for the logo should do so now at https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,1588.0.html

My vote goes to theo91, whom's coin design I already use on my faucet site.

in the logo voting thread, a candidate very similar to Namecoin's logo appears to be winning

This is QBTC's candidate

And namecoin looks like this:

Please take a look at all candidates and vote what you think will best represent NXT.  The voted logo will begin to be used on all our sites:  www, info, wiki, forums, etc.

is is possible to use a bitmask or network mask of some sort in allowedUserHosts to allow a whole /24 network without having to put in 255 addresses?

I'll add RegEx in future versions.
And better yet allow an entire dns domain

Shouldn't the client ask for the passphrase AGAIN when trying to send NXT?

Good idea!

or ideally, somehow 2 different passphrases.  1 to unlock the client for forging, and 1 to send funds

im trying to automate health checking of my VPSs using API requests from wget or lynx, but whenever I try to use options for wget/lynx to dump webpage to stdout, it fails if give it the API request, just usiing http://localhost:7874 works though.

Quote
[root@vps08 ~]# lynx -dump http://localhost:7874/nxt?&requestType=getState
[1] 2898
[root@vps08 ~]# {"errorCode":1,"errorDescription":"Incorrect request"}

Any tips?

ETA nevermind I had to escape the shit out of that URL

well it seemed to me that bennylou was claiming he had a screenshot proof of the post that got deleted, but I couldnt tell, between his 2 pics and then on the forums themselves, what he claimed was missing

Hey, nextcoin.org owner. Is it the truth? Could u explain this, please?

Im an admin/mod there, but not the owner.  I tried to look at the posts he was talking about but couldnt figure out what he said was missing.  I asked a bit ago in this thread for him to explain it so I could better understand what he said was missing.
952  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 29, 2013, 06:41:09 AM
I checked my account just now and found the balance is 0.
it should be 20000. What is the problem? I am so worried.

did you use a fairly simple passphrase or did you pick a very powerful complex one?  check your account number in the blockchain

...I'm running 2 nodes, I'm reading A LOT of NXT forum threads trying to learn how to setup nodes on Ubuntu VPS's - that's a huge leap for me requiring many hours.

please get with me, I can help with your VPS issue.  I am running 8 very high performance VPSs and I could use your hallmark if your account balance is very high.  Im not an original stakeholder with millions and milllions of n NXT and my VPSs would really shine if they had a very heavily weighted hallmark

956  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 29, 2013, 12:24:20 AM
This is all I'm gonna I'm going to speak on this, it is quite literally a waste of my time telling people to just look at the NXT blockchain to see the same conclusion anyone with common sense will find, then to be called a troll by founders and the developer.

Not going into your post content wise, i would like to go into it from a communication point of view.
I find it hard to believe that you are surprised by the reception you got on the forums.

Your first post starts with a HUGE pic of the blockchain with angry red ALLCAPS pointing out the unfairness.
Now, I'm not saying the system may or may not be inherently unfair. I am reserving judgement.

However, if from post ONE, you come in criticising, I as a mod or admin would also be taken aback and think "who the hell is this guy and why does he even post on a forum for a product he evidently doesn't trust?".

If someone would have done that on my forums, I'd basically ignore him as someone who barges into a pub and starting to complain about the bad quality of the establishment.

Contentwise you may be right, but you are doing yourself and your viewpoint a severe disservice by basically communicating extemely aggressively. And yes, at that point, the discussion will most probably nót go about content, but emotion.  Roll Eyes

One last thing, because I only just noticed it and it sorta ties in to your points..

...to be fair, you probably shouldn't base judgment on the content on forums and just draw your own conclusions, I mean for example, the proposal I made on nextcoin.org forum has been deleted,
per the print screen I made last night.. you know.. just in case.. hah.

https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,1268.msg13727.html#msg13727

and a print screen from today.. same forum, gone...

btw you can see people on the next page reacting to the proposal, but I guess they decided it wasn't fit for their forum, or perhaps they'll say I deleted it. I did not.

those big red letters were the current font I had selected, sorry if it screamed agenda. peace.
and like my last post on nextcoin.org (before it was deleted)

see you in 6 months... Wink

im doing a stare/compare, and I cannot find anything deleted.  can you elaborate?

Hm, that gave me an idea, I am now testing openjdk-7-jre-headless package on a 512 mb vps

That's what I'm using on my node. It works, but eventually the heap will be full due to leaks. On a 512M, you should keep the max number of connections low.

Haven't tried the Oracle SE VM yet. I'll have a go at that later.

I never thought about testing it.
We have to make it run smooth on 512 Mb, and if -headless JRE helps with garbage collection better, then it should be the default java install for NXT. I'll update my guide with that info, after a few hours of testing.

Nice work please keep us vps managers posted on whats best

Is there any step by step guide for setting up a public node? Would not mind doing so at all, but I barely have time to keep up with this thread, much less figure put how to properly set up a public node. If someone could point me in the right direction (preferably how to set up a VPS), I would be happy to help.
