981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is doge dying off? on: December 27, 2013, 11:54:25 PM
If you think anyone in the real world is going to use a coin with "Very currency!" plastered all over it, think again. Though it could become the home currency of meme sites.

Ultimately DOGE is just a typical Scrypt clone that offers nothing new at all to cryptocurrency, it is just another one among hundreds. The hype is already dying down.

For any coin to survive and prosper it needs to bring something new an innovative to the table, and be aimed at solving a particular problem or set of problems. I'm not sure how a meme inspired Litecoin clone that everyone thought was funny for a few minutes plans to do that without some revolutionary services being built on top of it. NXT for example really is a new type of coin that isn't just a clone or rehash of another coin that fixes some of the inherent problems with Bitcoin, coupled with p2p DNS functionality of Namecoin and coloredcoins exchange integration (eventually).

Never say never as there is no telling where this all goes from here, but the future of DOGE is not that bright in the end I think. Not to say I don't have a few Dogecoin in my cryptovault along with others  Smiley

Well, with no exchanges around at the moment, I'll gladly take a few, thanks!

984  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [CONCEPT] CryptoMiners on: December 24, 2013, 07:31:01 AM
Windows 2000? That hasn't been supported by Microsoft for 3 years...why should anyone trust a network running on antiquated software. "Nostalgia" has no place in a commercial network and presents a gaping security hole one could park an aircraft carrier in. You could just use a modern Linux package instead of Micro$oft which any self-respecting miner would be anyway.

What you basically propose is you would build a bunch of GPU miners that are basically gaming PCs (not servers), with Windows 2000 on them (if you can even find compatible drivers for modern components), and mine Bitcoin (which GPUs can't do for squat these days compared to ASIC machines) and some Scrypt coins.

As an actual datacenter techie and system builder, you need to do a lot more homework  Undecided  Mining professionals don't do things this way, and absolutely no one in their right mind would fund this. Not to be harsh, keep dreaming big, but there is a lot here I think you are failing to consider, or research.

Go do some actual research and then try again OP
987  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BTC Mining is dead IMO on: December 21, 2013, 04:11:26 AM
Another day, another "Bitcoin mining is dead" thread.

No it isn't. Bitcoin itself is probably dead for the little guy with the hopes of profit and fame. That time is long past and was only amazing for the first few that had Avalon machines.

But Bitcoin isn't little anymore either. We will need full scale, professionally operated mines to support a worldwide network, and there is no way around that. Such mines will be expensive to set up and run in dedicated facilities with ample cooling and power. Unless you are prepped to jump in at that level to be a profitable miner, you may look elsewhere. If BTC mining is a curiosity and a hobby that you know full well you probably won't see much return on if any, then by all means do.

However, there are 100 other blockchains to mine using the same gear, why not hop on board with one or several of those? They need your help more than Bitcoin does if you only have a few Erupter USBs on hand to mine with, big dogs have the Bitcoin network covered. You never know which one of those will rise to the top of the heap.

988  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Axonlabs - new 3TH miner for 10k on: December 20, 2013, 11:46:28 PM
NEVER give your money to an ASIC company that has neither shown their stuff on these forums or even said a word.

These are fly by night scams and nothing more, if you send to them, you deserve what you get, which is an empty wallet and sorrow that you didn't buy from reputable sources.

This looks like the same jokers behind several others.
989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Newsweek in 1995: Why the Internet will Fail. on: December 20, 2013, 08:00:27 AM
I have likened the current stage of Bitcoin as similar to the birth of the modern web. Back in '95 the Internet was just as misunderstood.

Here is another from 1994

Got my cube today  Grin

Hashing nicely at stock clocks 32.5 Ghs/s  Cool All chips show "0".  I guess I got one of the good ones, thanks Canary!

Running it with a Silverstone 850w btw.

I tried an Antec 650w at first, the miner would turn on initially but then shut down. Switching to my better PSU fixed it.

Like others reported the cards were out of their grooves in the case, easy fix, just pop the back cover off and slide the whole thing out, align the cards into the grooves. I didn't have any loose heatsink screws. The outer casing was scratched in a few places, but nothing I'm too worried about.

*edit   holding 37.942 gh/s at OC, Slush pool and Minectrl show it higher at 41-43 gh/s

No benefit over fiat money?

That proves right there you have no idea what the hell you are talking about OP.
992  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: WHAT! :( Butterfly Lads won't deliver the Monarch Till March or April:( on: December 15, 2013, 09:35:14 PM
How many times does this have to happen before everyone stops giving them money....

In March it will be April, in April it will be "in two weeks!" for months.

993  Economy / Speculation / Re: Good press everywhere. Yet the price stays the same... on: December 15, 2013, 08:37:32 AM
Price stability is a good thing, Im actually kinda glad its been hovering around $900 the past several days. Once the traders are convinced its not going to take a skydive they will start buying again.

There is a history of moon rocket and then plateau, just give it a bit.

Nice write up OP! This is definitely the future of high-density computing, traditional cooling methods like air and watercooling can't even compare to the efficiency of these systems. Novec is a pretty amazing substance.

I saw this today from the company that did the install of ASICMiner's immersion mine-

996  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [The Wasp] Logo Design Contest !!!! Ends on Dec. 31 on: December 13, 2013, 06:39:19 AM
Always a sucker for a design project  Grin   I took a different approach

I wanted to work in the "hive" so to speak, but keep it looking something like a wasp and also a bit "techie", incorporating a W as well. The hive cells represent the distributed nature of the collective. Not sure about the font however..

This is still a rough version I slapped together, if you all like it I will produce a more finalized one with all the bells and whistles to look at.

My logo criteria says a good one is easily re-printable in any medium which I think I accomplished, should work well in any color.
997  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price at end of 2014? on: December 13, 2013, 04:38:43 AM
From December 2012 to December 2013, BTC price rose by 60x (~$20 to ~$1200).

If it does something similar, $60,000 per coin this time next year at minimum. Though I think BTC growth is exponential, if that holds than it will be much higher than $60,000.

There is no telling how the other currencies will affect it though. Once BTC reaches a certain point we may just see other coins rise up next to it as their ultimate purpose is defined by the development work being built on top of them, forming more specialized blockchains that do different things, like Datacoin, Namecoin, and others like them, each of them valuable in their own unique ways. The sky is the limit to what this technology can do. Bitcoin is just the beta test. We saw Litecoin rise above where BTC was this time last year, there is no technical reason Litecoin can't become bigger than Bitcoin. BTC just has the advantage of being the first and therefore most well known cryptocurrency, but the limited exposure of the 100 chains behind it won't last.

When BTC hits 1000s people will notice these other cheaper coins more and more, even though fundamentally "1 coin" is arbitrary, but fiat minded people have trouble seeing past that. However making the smaller BTC denominations like mBTC will help with that in common usage.

This is a digital wild west, anything can happen, anything goes, no one on this planet can accurately predict what happens now. We are in for one wild ride I think, it would be wise to hold many kinds of crypto for the months ahead.
998  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is JPM Preparing To Unveil Its Own Electronic Currency? on: December 13, 2013, 04:21:46 AM
Any bank made "digital currency" would certainly be under their direct control as the "Dollar 2.0", inherently no different than what is already in place. Most Dollars are already electronic. They have zero incentive to create an open currency they can't manipulate to their own ends, as that is how they make obscene (and nigh impossible) amounts of money.

This is my first time ordering through him, placed mine on the 29th one of the first and had a friend vierfy I did it right and haven't heard a word nor has it shipped. I pm'd him a day or 2 ago to see if there was some issue but no response, is this common? I thought for sure I would have had it . Rt now I'd even pay for additional overnight shipping to get it. I didn't want to say anything to bother him cause he's got lots going on but this is a bummer, and if it's anything I'm sure I messed it up but let me know please

Just be patient, hes working through a pile of cubes today no doubt. If there is a problem he has your email.
1000  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The Scam List on: December 12, 2013, 04:46:28 PM
Why is my old scam list listed as a scam on this one?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=176262.0

CoinCanary was never a scam nor even an attempt to sell equipment, it was just an informative list just like this one of fly-by-night ASIC companies... Huh

In fact you might want to give it a look over and see if any of those old scams are still around.
