From the owner perspective, mixers like this one are mostly about profit otherwise the fee would be 0.1% (or just enough to cover hosting costs and consolidation) to encourage liquidity. Bitcoin is used in the Dark Web's black markets to purchase hacking services, drugs, illegal pornography and many other unthinkable things, if you don't know about it then Google it, it's an interesting subject (though it's also a scary one).
"Unthinkable things"? Most of the stuff on the dark web (excluding e.g. child pornography) is nobody's damn business, especially victimless crimes. They are nothing in comparison to what crimes the government commits, especially the United States of Stupid. And running your own mixer is not really a solution, if all you're mixing is your own transactions or if a bunch of criminals come together to mix their transactions, it would only get easier for them to get caught.

I don't know what "other methods" could someone use as Lauda mentioned, maybe non-BTC methods? I would guess that moving fiat around would be more anonymous... the only BTC method I can think of is mixing... or use GRIN I guess?

Come to think of, bitmixer.io used to be the biggest mixer and they left the business just like that, without a reason, at least not shared with the public.
These mixers really should public their code online. That would make it relatively easy for clones to pop up and someone with better opsec might pick it up one day. In the meantime, use Wasabi. |

In fact there is no need to back up the wallet.dat after each transaction. If the change addresses are missing, there is a way to solve it.
1) Nobody claimed that you need to do that. 2) There's no way to solve it if your backup does not have the new keypool. Many things could have gone wrong with the old OP. Based on the above, I believe that Hhampuz has stolen the excess money from the BestMixer campaign for his own personal use. That's quite a leap. You've offered no proof the funds have not been returned BestMixer, or that that Hhampuz sent them to his own personal wallet. You don't know where the money ended up, and apparently that's by design. BestMixer hired to Hhampuz to escrow their funds, and even if he still has the funds in his possession, that's not a scam, he's doing what he was hired to do. This whole thread is based on a lot of speculation and wishful thinking. The money very clearly was moved, that cannot be disputed. I explained in the OP how I know Hhampuz did not receive instructions on how to return the money after he ended the campaign. The theory that Hhampuz moved the money to his own hidden address unknown to anyone and therefore is not stealing is quite the leap. The action of moving the money through a mixer is evidence his intention is to keep the money for himself. There is no reason they would want him to do this. More assumptions. How can you tell for sure that such instructions weren't provided when they hired him? I can imagine that mixer operators think ahead. If that is what happened, Hhampuz can respond to this thread and show evidence of that. The question as to what happened to the money was previously broached to Hhampuz, which went ignored. Unless there is "evidence" that he is obligated to keep the money where it is, he can transfer/mix/liquidate it back and forth however he pleases as long as the money is "safe".
