move to baikal, stray away from the dark side of x11
Have you used any pinidea gear? I think there are pros and cons to both companies, they each fill a different niche in the mining community. So far I've had the opportunity to try both the du1 and the dr3 and have mostly good things to say about my experiences. I'll write out a proper comparison and maybe even some guides once I'm able to get my hands on a few mini's. i have never tried the dr3, i have tried dr1 and du1 i like baikal multi algo, and at least they have products in stock I wonder if the dr3 could be patched for multi-algo or even a nicehash/multialgo setup so you can get the best of both worlds. It has a built in controller and an update-able OS Having products available is definitely one of the pro's, a pipe dream would have me comparing the baikal mega and the dr3 but that's a few months away at least. The real downside of the du1 is not it's price, but the minimum order size. I think they'd sell like hotcakes if you could buy 1 at a time. Ton's of folks could run a single usb du1 but 5 of them require additional infrastructure, like buying hubs that aren't properly built for the power draw. Plus half a bitcoin could almost get you 2 baikal mini's. Lowering the initial buy-in cost allows more people to get involved. Let me know if you ever want to sell your pinidea hardware maybe we could work something out.

Forgot to follow up from earlier. I setup the miners. One Quad tower and 2 Minis. Soooooooo easy! Out of the box and mining in minutes. Easy to find on the network; shows up on the router as "Baikal". User interface lists server addresses of many popular pools. I chose NiceHash for now until I have an opportunity to research different pools. Momentary effective hashrate on the pool is fluctuating from 125MH to as much as 191MH per unit but 6-hour average is consistently about +2.5% over Baikal's advertised rate.
My purchase came with 6-Pin Molex 5557 Mini-fit Jr (a.k.a. 6-pin PCI-Express) male to five 5.5x2.5mm DC plugs on 18awg aluminum wire. Though I had enough DC plugs at home but it turns out they were all 5.5x2.1mm. Be careful, common 2.1mm plug will not fit a less-common 2.5mm port. The PCI-E connector became very warm with 5 Minis running off it. Thankfully I have plenty of PCI-E connectors to build more.
One of my minis is being fed by 22awg copper wiring. I was concerned this would be too thin but the wire doesn't feel warm at all. This unit has no Orange Pi attached so that reduces the load. I would still recommend at least 20awg copper or 18awg copper-clad aluminum. Going to change that one to 18awg copper when more 5.5x2.5mm plugs come in.
Do note that the bottom of each unit has metal screws that could scratch the surface you rest it on. Find some stick-on felt or rubber bumpers.
VERY happy with my purchase; will buy more. Still waiting for the bill from U.S. Customs, though.
I can make more power cables if anyone needs custom wiring. Server power supplies, breakout boards, and fancy sleeving as well.
Multipool.us has a variation of x-11 coins available for hashing. They also offer profit switching, just within x-11 algo. I'm glad they're including the dc plug, takes a bit of experimentation out of the setup. Is one included with each mini I wonder? How do they run if you rest them on their side? Never hurts to have hardware for sale, make a few extra plugs and list them. Baikal, I hope you don't run out of these before I'm able to purchase any. I want to do a comparison.

For those interested in where this guys is ripping his design off of, check out:
Yeah, they call this competition.. I saw somewhere a guy making these out of wood for $50. Supply/demand drives the market. Monopolies are mostly beneficial to the business owner.

You might as well buy what you can get, lots of options right now.

If you make a keychain I'd buy it.
Maybe sign me up for some random chips? They'd look good amongst the rest of the clutter.

mine arrived yesterday for those still skeptical. not horrible considering the chinese new year. on a side note couldnt get it set up for a while becasue the deafult ip is set at 192.168.1.200 and my router was in setup in a different range. All is well now though with no bad asics How do you like it compared to other asics? I have one arriving some day as well.

AFAIK any molex->PCIe 8-pin power adapter will work. I would also choose second one.
It's not always enough If you run 6 cards on these without any standard pci-e lines then you're asking for your house to burn down.

Bitcoin is merely a collection of ideas.
Not all of which were exclusively "Satoshi"'s.
Many have and will continue to contribute to the blockchain...as was intended.
