1442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Switch to offline wallet on: December 30, 2016, 06:32:05 PM
Hi, I've been using Blockchain .info from a while, I'm willing to switch to an offline wallet, I don't feel 100% secure with Blockchain, can you suggest me one?
And some tutorial noob-friendly that explain me how to use it?
I mean, if my PC one day stop working, I lose my BTC? Or if I use a USB drive to store BTC, if the USB stop working, I lose my BTC? I have a lot of doubts about offline wallets, if anyone can clear me that, would be great
Thanks very much, hoping in some answers  Smiley

P.S. Good new year!

You can backup your wallet.dat file and open it on another computer. You can have the same address accessible from multiple computers/usb sticks at the same time.
1443  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you had a time machine, what would you say to satoshi? on: December 30, 2016, 06:05:21 PM
Give me the private keys to your million premined bitcoins or I'll shoot you in the face.

You are the reason we can't have nice things.
1444  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you had a time machine, what would you say to satoshi? on: December 30, 2016, 05:54:52 PM
I personally wouldn't say anything most likely. If anything it might be "hey, this thing you make is going to be huge in the future, just don't do anything differently" and that would be all.

It all depends on what would change due to the butterfly effect anyways, and saying anything might be really, really bad and change a lot of things.

It doesn't matter, by the time bitcoin was properly conceptualized...satoshi was fully withdrawn from the equation.

As was intended...

Maybe you should leave satoshi alone and fix a problem with your time machine instead of harassing someone who wanted you to have a chance at wealth.
1445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "We got hacked" coming ! on: December 30, 2016, 05:44:18 PM
Stop being paranoid about it. If you are worried about your bitcoin then start to use FULLY LICENSED EXCHANGES i.e. Gemini.
But no, you people complain that they have harsh KYC policy. Don't be pussies and stop complain about harsh KYC and be sure that your coins are safe.

Or you can calm the fuck down...download a bitcoin wallet for your computer/phone....etc

https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

The only reason you need to use an exchange is to convert btc to? ...if you aren't trading/converting don't bother with exchanges.

If you simply are storing your coins then do so offline. There are many solutions to this...get researching Cheesy

1447  Economy / Services / Re: Who's the richest Cryptocurrency trader in this thread? Who has the most BTC? on: December 30, 2016, 05:32:59 PM
This is actually the funniest and simplest advise I have read but in my own opinion making money through alt and increase in price of Bitcoin is actually an inverse relationship in the sense that most Alt are valued in its relationship to Bitcoin in that case when the price of Bitcoin increases without corresponding increase in the volume of such Alt the value will drop and vice-versa so its really a risky venture...

Alt value gain and decline, while tied to the bitcoin value(because their value is based on what they exchange to btc for) is not exclusive to bitcoin's pattern. You can at times, see when large sums of money is being moved through the system. At other times all your calculations will have you losing money...why? Because you can't predict both the bot's algorithms and the panic of the masses...

It's chaos theory...really.
1448  Economy / Services / Re: Escrow on: December 30, 2016, 05:25:58 PM
I've been meaning to start providing escrow services. Maybe an escrow system for the uninitiated?

I am usually in front of a computer unless I'm sleeping and have a variety of messengering systems at hand.

How much is it for? I can offer situational escrow services for free depending on the amount and time frame involved.

PM me details if you have not found an escrow as of yet.

Alternatively, I highly suggest using Monbux, OGnasty or phillipma as escrow if you do not mind paying their fee.

Thanks!

1451  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How could one disable the fans on an Antminer S7 on: December 30, 2016, 04:56:29 PM
In oil immersion would if be better to throw the fans away and use an oil pump to circulate the oil round a small cooling radiator then introduce back to the immersion tank? A decent oil pump would be required but with some small bore tube I would probably make some jets to introduce a high flow over the cards. Just food for thought.

That is exactly what I am doing. I just need to find a way to get them to run without fans connected.

Well, you could switch to the F1 firmware. This will allow you to run 1 fan instead of 2 which might be better than nothing.

I know the folks running sp30's in mineral oil modified or replaced the fans that they were using so they could use them in the oil. I think a very slow moving fan would actually help circulate the oil...allowing for additional overclocking? Let us know...these s7 blades (in theory) could take 800-900 watts ea. if the 3x pci-e plugs meant anything.
1452  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: can i reuse AntMiner S7 ? on: December 30, 2016, 04:47:08 PM
Yes i am absolutely sure about the electricity pricing The cost is 0.01 USD / kwh I am live in Saudi Arabia

So is profitable or not ?

Here is a calculator for you to figure out for yourself:  https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

at $0.01 / kWh it will likely be profitable eventually, but how long that takes will depend on difficulty and exchange.  If I was in your situation I would be buying S7's personally.

Yeah, 1 cent a kWh is almost free, I would buy as many s7's as my electrical wiring would allow...and then either upgrade the wiring to allow for more miners or upgrade the miners to be more efficient.
1453  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Making server PSUs quieter on: December 30, 2016, 04:31:59 PM
Pretty much any PSU worth anything grounds the case. It's a safety feature.

When you say "independent 12v Temp controlled PWM fan", please clarify what is "independent". I don't know if the PSU has protection mechanisms where it won't stay lit up without detecting a spinning fan, but the built-in fan is PWM temp-controlled and runs off 12V so I'd just plug the new external fan into its port and see if that's good enough.

I was going to get a cheap 12v pwm fan controller that has a temp probe and place that inside the psu so the larger quieter fan I put on ramps up and down as necessary. I had an idea that the existing fan would be controlled via pwm signals but wouldn't it need to register silly rpm for the psu to function as intended? As the larger fan will obviously spin slower so would there be a conflict with what the psu "sees" and shut it down if it doesn't reach the target rpm?

I'm assume the existing fan is load related rather than temp related aswell.

It sounds like you are having fun and will break things. What psu's are you using? The 3x750w setup I have will wake the dead...but the dps-800's are quieter than an s7. Maybe it helps that the s7 "heater's" in my room have 1 dps800 per blade? With less load they will make less noise.

You can also purchase variations of the small server fans and of course replace what is in the PSU...It might not make much of a different.

What is your ambient temperature?
1454  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Okay selling a FSP aurum plat psu for a small build (450 watt) name your price on: December 30, 2016, 02:37:57 PM
used to be so much cheaper to ship to uk before all the terror acts

3-5 day shipping to ukraine on an s7 is almost $400

Eh, poor folks...

EDIT: i like fans and older ram too, chance to fill some old but somewhat modern (vista machines) boxen to somewhat decent specs so i can donate them to worthy folk.

If phillipma is unable to satisfy your old ram needs...Let me know I've a handful. I should be tearing apart some old machines here in the next month.
1455  Economy / Goods / Re: Buying Watches (Antiques, New, Used) - No Replicates on: December 30, 2016, 03:40:37 AM
This thread makes me laugh. OP. I have connects with many second hand luxury watch dealers. When you know what you're looking for hit me up and I'll see if I can get what you want.

I'm good. I might want a watch from someone from bitcointalk. If I wanted a specific watch I'd just go to Kay's/Macy's/etc and buy it or order it online.

You're not a watch collector are you?

I think what he's trying to do...is spend bitcoins on the community. I will keep my eye out for watches...just in case I have one he'll like.

OP are you looking for any sort of watch in particular? I think I have a female watch somewhere with a broken hasp.
1456  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Alternate Antminer Controllers on: December 30, 2016, 03:16:25 AM
I am trying to just run the hashing boards without any fans, which I have found to be all but impossible with BITMAIN's firmware because it shuts down as soon as it detects there are no fans running. So I need something that will run just S9 boards without any fans connected.

Bitmain firmware is dependant on the fans present.

If you have noise complaint, try replacing fans or running them at 0%? The stock fans are 6000 rpm, anything above 3200 is too loud for housing.
1457  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Which is the best way to mine litecoin on: December 30, 2016, 01:58:43 AM
Where are you located?

You could get 2 Silverfish scrypt miners off ali-express for $500.

probably your best bet unless you can afford an a4
1458  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] R9 290 [w] .15 btc shipped price lowered on: December 30, 2016, 01:21:29 AM
Curious what type of hashrates you got with this sexy beast...

Can you use it with Nicehash's windows gui?

Thanks
1459  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Computer tower case that will fit the R4?? on: December 30, 2016, 01:16:11 AM
You can always explain people that what it is and use it if you have a permission.
In this case I guess the R4 is used somewhere where no permission has been asked.
Not accusing anything, just a wild guess.

We could always consider the alternate possibility...

He wants it in a public space at his home...but not visible in a way that someone would want to steal it

I mean...I wouldn't leave $1000 on the coffee table for 5 months hoping it will be fine.

Between the pets and beer spillage and rando's coming over...something would happen.

OP, I think that if you got a full ATX case and stood it on end...maybe that would work out for you. Head down to a thrift shop and see if they have any massive towers laying around.
1460  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: ADVICE - One board on S7 shows zero as temp and HIGH HW errors ??? on: December 30, 2016, 12:37:30 AM
Yeah, don't tell anybody this but you don't have to supply power to all 3 pcie plugs. If you are running a full s7 at full clock speed then I wouldn't use less than 2 of the plugs per board.

It will run power to the entire board though...even with 1 plug.

I have one running with 1 plug per board. It's underclocked mind you... 1 pci-e plug won't be throwing more than 300 watts...you don't want all that power going over a single wire/connector.
