Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's the standard for cryptsy.com choosing new altcoin?

Agree, no premine is needed for any legit reasons except to give devs a quick pump and dump. Cryptsy should really put premined coins to the bottom of the list and any chants or advertisements in the cryptsy chat should move the corresponding coins downwards in the list and not upwards.
For the most part with a few exception any fair release coin will always be at the top over any premine now. All coin decisions in the end are a business decision and can change at anytime.

The only issue I see after watching numerous 51% attacks is well they survive which is the opposite of what I thought would happen. Even with no Dev support someone forks it and the coin moves on. Fork it again and again and again........ holders and devs revive it. I look at most of the alts as little science projects and the fixes as experiments that can later be applied to better and better crypto. Heck even some coins change COMPLETELY and evolve.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: There has to be an explanation as to why Caps keeps forking, for the community.

Personally i sold all my Caps last major fork.
but Caps just now forked again with Verns pool starting block that i noticed had 9 then 21 thousand blocks , basically like it started a new chain.
My question(s) are these :
its the Re-target or some other parameter related to the potential to fork?
it was my suspicion that originally Verns pool was having the "image" of the pool that could effectively handle Stratum and this led to everyone being on his pool .
but since then Caps has forked 3 more times?
so surely there is something to take away from all this ?
I do see a lot of PoS NVC type clones coming in the future so it would be useful to learn and understand.
Where are you getting 3 CAPs forks from? There was one fork that forked the fork. Since 1.4 after that there was one pool that lost its connections and started its own thing not really a fork but a pool issue. Not aware of any forks but the original 1.3 fork.

Cryptsy started asking me for all these personal security info and questions today, so I pulled my coins out. Don't like the sound of that.
So this came up quite a bit today. The reason for security questions is owner validation. We have users losing access to their original signup email. So in order to validate them we need another method. Just like any site that asks personal security questions you can make the answer anything you wish. Just know the answer! So question like Whats your mothers maiden name you can put 67890%^&*(1223 that's fine but know the answer. So if you do lose your email access permanently which until recently I myself didn't think was a real thing but some people do. We have a way to validate your the owner and give you access to your coins by changing your email. Seems smart to me -- I really don't see a disadvantage here. Our accounts are used for transferring, trading, and sometimes even storing valuable virtual currencies -- I have no problem going through a few extra steps to verify my identity if it means my investments are safer. I had an incident once where I lost my phone (slipped out of the pocket in a new pair of slacks)...which was linked to my email. The person who found the phone reset my passwords for various websites and confirmed the resets via my Email...which they now had access to. If there had been an additional security question on the sites in question, there's a chance it would have never happened. I was tipped off when I checked my deleted Email and saw the "reset password" emails in there (the idiot never deleted the trace) -- I got everything straightened out quickly and eventually even got my phone back...but securing and modifying the compromised websites was the biggest hassle out of everything. There are lots of ways to do security that don't involve giving out personal information. This isn't one of them. I think the point is don't put in personal information in its a pass phrase like any other any information can be provided as long as you remember it when you enter it. Favorite teddy Bear is probably not the most intrusive question but if teddy needs a more anonymous name then make it A$%^65ty. The security part of verification ends when the end user losses his keys to his information. So then the question becomes how does the user regain access to his information and prove he is himself without losing anonymity that many crypto users want or do we just say sorry well hold your coins for eternity. How do you propose a user proves ownership of his account? We feel this is the best way for a user to prove they own the account and is a widely accepted practice but are open to other ideas. Using Country of Residence as a fail-safe security question is about one notch above using Gender. I fudged my actual residency, and let me tell you, if I start getting penis enlargement emails written in Uzbek, there's gonna be hell to pay. You could put it as the planet mars if you'd like or your country of residence could be a pass phrase the questions are irrelevant as long as you know the answers.

Spots is on the list we do not consider bounties or ultimatums in this case. To manipulate where the coin falls on the consideration list. If you wish to be removed from the list we also don't list coins that coin dev's request to not be listed so there is not issue either way.
@BitJohn I have a strange feeling we know each other. But anyway, is there a criteria for a coin to be listed or is simple order followed? Just curious? ~BCX~ @BCX Cryptsy itself was made from and for Vern's miners as a safe place to trade the various ALT coins from the pools and it went from there. The list began as a question from Vern on a forum board asking for some coin research for Cryptsy. It went from a basic list of altcoins and has evolved into a more detailed list with some research. So I maintain the list adding coins as I find them and read about them. We currently rank them using criteria in this order ingenuity, fair release, perceived volume, developer's reputation, coin stats and after that speculation by me to put them in order. Step two is Big Vern gets the itch to add a coin and picks from the list I researched can deviate from the list at a whim (he is the boss) though it normally follows the list gotta keep folks on their toes after all. With all that said their are a couple coins we have added based purely for competitive or perceived advantage due to ingenuity that skipped the process entirely. As far as knowing each other I am pretty sure we have talked in IRC back before my Cryptsy days its funny you said that as I thought the same thing.

I don't know what "6th grade" is or what a "second name" is. I think there is also one question about child nicknames or stuffed animals (?!?). I suppose these are normal questions in the States but are really weird here in Spain. It would be much better to give the option to users to write both the question and the answer. Ok that made me laugh literally. I agree there may be some cultural confusion there. I will talk to vern about a custom option.

Should be hitting stake-coins today, around 10AM for me (gmt-5)... Or do they just turn into stake-coins?
Coins will only become eligible for stake at the 30 day mark. After that keep your wallet open for a chance of some getting staked. It may happen quick it may take longer. The longer you waitt the more likely up to 90 days where your odds dont increase When you do get a block the coins used will move to the stake column and be unavailable until the block matures your reward we be for 5% of the staked coins I keep some coins at Cryptsy, do the get any stakes there? Should I transfer all my coins to local wallet to get some stakes? Do coins get any stakes if no solo-mining is done? Do I see new stakes coins come in as new transactions? Does it matter what coins are held old or new? Does a coin get rewarded with stakes or an address which originally mined it? Stake are mined coins so you don't get the stake in pools or exchanges. Its not that we don't want to its that its nearly impossible to see whose coins got staked and credit them to the individual. So yep I keep my stake coins in my wallets.

Exactly the scenario this protects against. Again the answers don't have to be true they just have to be correct when we try to confirm. I personally have made up answers for any security question myself various pass phrases with symbols etc but I'm paranoid.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Was WDC premined/instamined? (like phenix and FTC)
|
on: July 30, 2013, 11:55:19 PM
|
This graph is extremely misleading because of the way the coin was released. The coin was released on "Hour 45" after the genesis block was mined. Hour 45: 64 minted Hour 46: 25,024 minted <-- Instamine Hour 47: 163,808 minted <-- Instamine Hour 48: 71,744 minted <-- Instamine _____________________ END DAY 2 Hour 49: 52,480 minted <-- Instamine Hour 50: 40,736 minted <-- Instamine Hour 51: 37,856 minted <-- Instamine Hour 52: 27,680 minted <-- Instamine Hour 53: 25,400 minted <-- Instamine After that the difficulty catches up. The hourly currency creation rate for WDC should be about 7680 WDC per hour. http://cryptometer.org/worldcoin_96_hour_charts.htmlThose 8 hours, from hour 46 to hour 53, about 445,000 WDC were minted, Which is 7 times as many coins as should have been created during that same period of time. It isn't as bad as FTC or MNC, but there definitely was an instamine when WDC hit the forums. Nice work! A lot of people are set to lose everything if they do not know what they are investing in. I would still say WDC was a fair release. Should have had higher start difficulty probably. Still a great start compared to many other ALT's some fairly popular alts had 90% of all coins generated in the first day. I would call 11% in first two days still pretty good. Any coin besides Bottlecaps start with a high difficulty to prevent the instamine?

Word on the street says cryptsy dosnt want our bounty so I will be returning any funds back to the donators. If you did donate please leave you wallet address below. If you would like to see GLC added to Cryptsy supporters need to be asking for it in chat/tweets and email. We feel there isnt alot more we can do, We have announced our services (Web Hosting etc). I have been told GLC is in the top 3 coins to be added. Now its down to the community to decide the fate of the coin.
You are correct in we don't prioritize coins by bounties. But there is no reason to fret over not making it yet we currently have GLC ranked very high on the list. So the Globalcoin community should be reassured they are not forgotten.
