Why he thought that Russia is more free than the US is anyone's guess.

Well, for him Russia is certainly "more free" than the US. No need to guess why, LOL!

I guess, but how long will Putin allow a dissident to live in a country where dissidents are killed or imprisoned for speaking out?

Seems like he'll either get the same treatment or worse.

Soviet era is long gone. There are plenty of "dissidents" alive and well in Russia. You can speak out, bark out, play punk rock in one of the biggest capital churches.

Of course, the Soviet era is long gone. The Russian Federation is a freedom loving nation ruled by its benevolent former KGB leader.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_the_press_in_the_Russian_Federation#2000shttp://blogs.computerworld.com/16931/is_microsoft_helping_russia_crack_down_on_dissidentshttp://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/07/world/europe/jailing-opposition-leaders-russia-moves-to-quell-election-protests.html?_r=0
http://freebeacon.com/russia-could-crack-down-on-internet-freedom-after-snowden-leaks/

Edit: saw the "punk rock in churches" bit. I'm guessing your post was sarcasm, then?

About punk rock - it was a joke, yes, but in general I was not sarcastic - I think if those crazy attention whores played in Sheikh Zayed Mosque, dissing local leaders, they would be mutilated and beheaded, if not by the government, then by local people. Or imagine them in the Washington Nation Cathedral, DC, singing "Obama is a commie and sucks big jew dong" or something like that. Or even Better is some Texas protestant Church. I'd say those gals got off pretty easily. Earning money in process, I must add.

Russia has plenty of independent news sources, lots of criticism of current ruling party and leaders. That first wikipedia link you gave - it mentions multiple improvements over years, public trust growing in general, some protection laws offered to journalists and so on. For years Russia has been viewed upon as a big scary bear, while in fact it is the same as all the other governments in the world more or less. I believe CIA can take any less prominent journalist in for a talk, to zap his balls with electrodes, and later acquire a backhand court order.

In the freedom of the press USA has pretty interesting figures. UK is slightly better. Cameras and taps everywhere, taking away journalists belongings as a "security measure".

General rule - you may speak and write about anything you want in a civilized country. As long as you stay away from big corruptions, hidden money, anything what makes your local government officials involved interested enough in snuffing out your life. Be that in Russia, Britain, France or USA or whatever.

Of course they are. But reselling them to other captcha buyers is more likely in this case.

I cannot believe this begging spree. And no-one's even begging, just shouting "me too!" "me too!".

For christ's sake are there alive mods on this board?!
1345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block chain size/storage and slow downloads for new users on: August 19, 2013, 09:39:04 AM
At some point Bitcoin-Qt will change such that it's able to delete old blocks. The details are still being worked out, but most likely you'll be able to say "Use up to 10 GB of disk space" and it will never use more than that. Nodes will broadcast how much of the chain they have and are able to serve. New nodes that are starting from scratch will have to search out other nodes that still have the full chain and sync from them, but any node that just wasn't online for a while and needs to grab the latest parts of the chain will be able to use most of the others. By controlling disk space usage, you can also indirectly control bandwidth usage (you can't upload data you don't have).

What happens, if in a hundred years from now, almost everyone is using the "Use up to 10 GB of disk space" feature? All the old nodes can probably keep up, but new nodes starting from scratch won't be able to find a node with the full chain, or have difficulty doing so.

Or is that a problem we shouldn't worry about for the next 50 years? I can see full nodes "centralizing" then, but it's possible that there will be entities or countries that will maintain a full node independent of other full nodes.

Right now, everyone running QT or the reference client is a full node.

I can see a far distant future where no normal or regular individual has a full node (except for the geeks / enthusiasts / those who can afford), but there will still be at least maybe 1 full node per country with the bigger countries having several, maybe one per university or one per "department" or "agency" or one per "private corporation".

I mean, large companies already maintain servers for all sorts of purposes. What's another one just dedicated to just bitcoind with 500++ gigs of space (or whatever is the then current capacity of hard drives or equivalent)?

Make paid (like in mining) full nodes, but, to make it really spread around make a rule of no more than x nodes per geographical area (city/county/country) or ISP  or per certain ip adress group. That way it will be as decentralised as possible, with lots of people simply co-hosting from their web servers, not some big company datacenter full of servers having a big chunk of the global node count. Also reward for hosting a node should be very smallish. Just to cover average costs by a 5-10%

The older members here will surly remember Esperanto.
It was a mix of the most popular languages geared towards simplicity.
It failed miserably because those in power are always old farts that dont want to learn anything new.

Older members? How old? That language was started in 1887.

What i meant was when during the 90s there were serious attempts to adopt it in Europe, havent heard a word about it since then.

In my school years, Esperanto was treated like a game of sorts, amongst nerds.
1348  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Blockchain on: August 15, 2013, 11:58:43 AM
12 measly GB is too much to handle? 1999 called, they want their disk space back. Roll Eyes

12 GB are not measly by any means. And with the current rate of it's growth...

Bitcoin is meant to be "portable", and blockchain feels like a ballchain around your leg.

How do I unwatch this thread??? It keeps updating me. Stahp!
"unwatch" link at top right and bottom right of page Huh click it...
It does not work for me Sad I get updated regardless >: even after unwatching.

It sucks so bad, I did not even ask for ripple here, just posted some bullshit long time ago and it keeps updating.

Funniest thing is that these morons ask for xrp, while OP explicitly says "Anyone whose Bitcoin Forum account was created before February 19, 2013, 18:45 UTC, is eligible to receive XRP. "

Useless spamming, and thread starter is long time gone.

We should lock this thread!

It annoys me that those 3 are mentioned (and zuckenberg should not even be mentioned at all). They are founders of their own companies, they had X of the shares, they could set whatever salaries they want, even work for free as a gimmick. We need better examples.
1352  Other / Politics & Society / Re: WTF is wrong with America? on: August 15, 2013, 12:57:53 AM
To me it seems that language is a huge factor here. It serves to bond people together, they share knowledge, and it also limits contact between different languages. Part of the US' dominance seems attributable to the fact that their main language is English (sort-of Wink ) which allowed them to piggyback on the strength of Britain's earlier imperialism. All they really had to do was promise a nice environment to attract foreign scientists and entrepreneurs (freedom, New World, lack of world wars, etc) and they were all set.

Language and the fact that oil is traded for dollar, and dollar is the "world's currency", not bitcoin Sad

But I must say, that I hope someday we all will speak one language. There are better and worse languages, technically speaking, I would choose between english as it's dominant already, or japanese, as it's very "practical and economical". If the whole world except USA would suddenly use some other language (russian, mandarin, you name it) it would certainly be fun to see how it has to keep up with the rest.

What is her budget? Price is important.

800$, but our prices are AT LEAST 30% higher than US prices, keep that in mind

At least your username is suitable.

If I had to pick between you and OP I'd definitely pick you.

Этой зимой ферма полностью отапливала флигелек бабушки.
Бабушка осталась довольна Smiley

Жалею что не связался с биткоином раньше, даже не изза скачка цены в апреле, а изза того что можно было неплохо обогреваться. Вот сейчас дождичек высыпал, прохладней стало, прихожу домой - тепло, хорошо.

Yes, FIX the CSS as its the priority and not the fucking trade engine.

It's sure is easier and faster, no?
1358  Other / Politics & Society / Re: WTF is wrong with America? on: August 14, 2013, 11:21:22 AM
US has too much troops and war machines too simply sit idle. Where would you put all those guys? And even if US would reduce army size by 50%, those troops will turn mercenaries/contractors and wage their own wars with the help of government lobbying. You do not simply say "ok guys, go home and be unemployed, cause only thing you can - is to run around with full equipment and shoot people, we do not need you anymore, ktnxbye".
1359  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are Intel ULV processors for laptops any good? Help me pick one. on: August 14, 2013, 08:29:04 AM
bump, still deciding
1360  Other / Politics & Society / Re: WTF is wrong with America? on: August 13, 2013, 06:19:17 PM

I only wish there was a process like this: you learn (let's say) japanese on your own, at home. You go to the nearest university - pass a very complicated series of tests, pay ~200$, and if score is good enough - you get a diploma.

How would this process work with doctors? You can't learn medicine at home.

It would not. There are certain skills that can and cannot be self taught at home.
