421  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: BFL and the law. on: June 18, 2012, 10:48:10 PM
I think there are much more serious violations in the area of securities law.

Taking 100% deposits on products you know you won't deliver on your promised schedule doesn't seem to be proscribed under US consumer laws.  At least not in an obvious way that I can find.

But selling things before you invent them likely runs into the domain of securities regulations rather than simple consumer law.

I'm not crazy enough to let a dime of my money flow into their hands so I can't be bothered to dig through the relevant materials.  If I was one of their competitors, I would spend some time on the phone with a few lawyers in their state capital.  $2000 placed with the right man would probably put them completely out of business

Enterpoint : doooooooooo it !

Thank you Giga.

Your words sounds like fresh air here, you know how to transmit confidence to your investors.

That is why they call them confidence men they are good at it.

Unlike certain trolls who aren't even very good at trolling Smiley

That would be statement of fact on the ponzi he is running right now with this venture and that is what they call people who do that.

Who is running a ponzi Huh

I don't understand ...

No doubt not many around here do understand basic math or logic. This venture here since it does not have 200gh/s running to pay out btc from that hash rate is one. It has a claimed 45-50gh/s running so in order to pay out the btc on what was originally a 100gh/s bond those btc have to be coming from a source other than hashing as it is impossible to pay out 100 or 200gh/s from at most 50gh/s. The most likely source is the suckers investors who purchased the bond paying themselves out of their own btc already given, the classic definition of a ponzi scam.

It is pretty strange as you mention, I have to agree. The guy claims this in OP

"- I currently run 33Gh in GPUs (undervolted and underclocked to 28.5Gh for the summer)
- I also run 15 Butterfly Labs singles @ 12.45Gh" but checking the farm status only shows 14 ghash/s LOL

and to my knowledge this has not been explained. Could it be that he is paying the dividents after investing the bonds in pirate's operation and the divident is coming from there and not from mining Huh Not amusing anyone of anything just relevant discussion.

425  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BAMT version 0.5 - Easy USB based mining Linux with farm wide management tools on: June 18, 2012, 07:42:29 PM
I updated BAMT with the latest version of cgminer. This is how I did it. I'm sure there are more elegant or "correct" ways, but this worked for me. If I'm doing something horribly wrong, please point it out.

Logged in as root, type this into a terminal to download the latest cgminer and prepare it with the ADL SDK:

Code:
cd /usr/share
git clone https://github.com/ckolivas/cgminer.git
cd cgminer/ADL_SDK
wget http://download2-developer.amd.com/amd/GPU/zip/ADL_SDK_4.0.zip
unzip ADL_SDK_4.0.zip
cd include
mv adl* ..
cd ..
cd ..

Keep going. The following instructions on compiling cgminer are taken from http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/README

Code:
cd /opt
tar xf /opt/AMD-APP-SDK-v2.4-lnx32/icd-registration.tgz
ln -s /opt/AMD-APP-SDK-v2.4-lnx32/include/CL /usr/include
ln -s /opt/AMD-APP-SDK-v2.4-lnx32/lib/x86/* /usr/lib/
ldconfig

cd /usr/share/cgminer
./autogen.sh
CFLAGS="-O2 -Wall -march=native" ./configure
make

Now that cgminer is compiled, you need to replace the cgminer that came with BAMT with the latest version. It's a good idea to stop mining before doing that, and to make a backup of the old cgminer:

Code:
gpumon
D
q
cd /opt/miners
mkdir cgminer_backup
cd cgminer
cp * ../cgminer_backup/

cd /usr/share/cgminer
cp * /opt/miners/cgminer

Now restart mining and verify that things work as they should:

Code:
gpumon
S
0

You should see the latest version of cgminer running in a screen.

Thanks for these instructions. Always wondered how to upgrade cgminer to latest version in BAMT !

428  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [605 GH] Eligius: Decentralized, 0Fee SMPPS, no reg, BTC+NMC on: June 17, 2012, 08:22:34 PM
Yeah. After thinking about it, it seems that SatoshiDice actually proves Satoshi failed with his ideas as BTC cannot possibly scale.
Oh, I wouldn't quite agree with this statement.
It does still work - just causing an incredible increase of the number of orphaned blocks.
Sort of a reward deprecation from the 50 BTC to.. something less, which was not planned in the initial design Tongue

Yeah. I still think this is a problem. Are the developers acknowledging this or not ?

This is causing more orphans and more stales for everyone mining Cry
429  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: June 17, 2012, 08:20:26 PM
The pool has been exceedingly lucky since the 14th June, with a mean round length of 0.6975. This means you'll get paid much more than PPS.

However, this is a reflection of the variance inherent in bitcoin mining. If you recorded your fortnightly average, you'd find it much less than PPS, since the average p2Pool roundlength for the last two weeks was 1.204.

The average round length since the start of p2Pool is about 1.11. So, since the start of p2Pool, average miner earnings are less than PPS.
Yes, because we have "dry days" just before. As someone said: in long run it is all the same.
P2pool have few BIG advantages over other pools, thats why I support it, not only for income.
In fact, I pay more for electric power than I make coins on my machine. But I like Bitcoin idea too much Smiley

LOL. Too bad we don't have more of you people.

Too many profiteers around here wishing to suck the gold stream dry like BFL and gigavps.
430  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [605 GH] Eligius: Decentralized, 0Fee SMPPS, no reg, BTC+NMC on: June 17, 2012, 08:07:52 PM
Are you guys basically saying that because of evorhees and his shitty gambling service all miners are getting 10% less income for some strange reason ?
Personally, I am not saying that this is the reason.
I'm not saying that from the data I got the number of orphaned blocks mined out by Eligius went up from ~1% in the past months to over 12% in June.
Why - it's not up to me to figure it out.

Yeah. After thinking about it, it seems that SatoshiDice actually proves Satoshi failed with his ideas as BTC cannot possibly scale.

But the mining income dropping is not fun Undecided
431  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [605 GH] Eligius: Decentralized, 0Fee SMPPS, no reg, BTC+NMC on: June 17, 2012, 08:03:57 PM

If all the mined blocks are there - then you must be right like hell.
http://pastebin.com/mb14R9nR

Code:
0% of orphaned blocks in January
1.0% in February
1.4% in March
0% in April
2.3% in May (though first one on the 13th)
12.7% in June

Jeez, effectively in June alone all miners would be -12.7% gauranteed on expected returns. That is definitely good enough to point to recent bloating of blockchain thats affecting other pools aswell.
Yeap. Now I understand why the difficulty is going up so slowly, despite of all the recent FPGA investments all around the world... Smiley

Are you guys basically saying that because of evorhees and his shitty gambling service all miners are getting 10% less income for some strange reason ?

Screw SatoshiDice ! Someone better stop DDOSing the damn pools and start DDOSing the service ! ( I don't condone DDOS but I need my damn INCOME SatoshiVice )
432  Other / Off-topic / Re: PirateFly Labs or Butter@40 - You be the judge on: June 16, 2012, 10:26:51 PM
To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed. From the thread title, I was hoping you were going to argue that Pirate@40 and BFL were conspirators in a gigantic doomsday scheme through cybernetically enhanced bugs, funded by BFL and Pirate, swarming throughout the world, entering computers, and stealing Bitcoin wallets. Now that would have been something.

Exactly the way I feel.

I thought this was about pirate and BFL being employed by the government shapeshifting alien reptilian overlords from Nibiru Planet X to screw us BTC miners over !

435  Bitcoin / Hardware / [Archive] BFL trolling museum on: June 16, 2012, 10:22:04 PM
Shocked Shocked

Wow, just finally finished getting 8 GPU's to play nice together, including (5) 5870's that have personality's of their own. Ranging from champ to the diva.
Multiple power supplies, some custom power wiring.

Hours of fun and frustration (I would say more fun, but still..), to get a little over 3 GH.

BFL is basically going to replace my system with a USB  "coffee warmer" @ 3.5 GH for $149.00

::This is where the slam head on desk smiley would go::::

I guess it is just a matter of when to dump the GPU's before everybody else floods the market and I cannot get rid of them.

(I will keep the champ however..452 MH, 1.08 volts, under 200 watts @ 42 degrees  Grin)

Now THAT is the REAL question in this FUD thread.

Anyone gullible enough to think BFL comes out with ASIC in near future is LOL.

12 months AT LEAST if it is real and this is not a fake "stop other FPGA folks dead" announcement.

MPBM is the cgminer of the FPGA world.
I've heard of it yes.
cgminer is for GPUs and should stay that way.
I don't see why. Because trying to make a software the cooks popcorn as well as mining on your rabbit will be ultimate failure. Just stick to one thing only.
Now every time he releases an update I have to download some bogus bitstream crap I will never ever use.
I'm not sure I understand. 4MB included shitty ztex bitstream in the binaries so every time new cgminer comes out i have to download crappy 4mb downloads instead of 0.7 mb before it !
MPBM got backup pool, bitstream upload, switches MHz ( dynamic overclocking ) basically it rocks for FPGAs and cgminer is bogus for FPGA.
  • cgminer has backup pools in one of its multiple pool support modes (in fact it's the default).
  • Bitstream upload, I don't know about.
  • Switches MHz, IIRC I've seen users of cgminer discussing how it works, so it surely is included.
NO. cgminer cannot adjust fpga frequency on the fly depending on error rate like mpbm. cgminer only does clock adjusting for GPUs afaik so NO.
[/list]
Has cgminer backup pools support was the main reason why I switched from DiabloMiner 10 months ago, I very much doubt you know cgminer enough to help me form my opinion if you cite this as an advantage for MPBM...

Seems that some guys are crying because they betted too much on their mining rigs.

Just look at the FPGA developers : yohan and OP.

They really mad at this point.

FYI most miners with GPUs paid off their rigs a long time ago like me Wink

They posted also in the forums:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=87934.0

I have been unable to find an official announcement from Butterfly Labs that is both credible and verifiable. Can you please provide a URL hosted on their domain with the appropriate news announcement?

Until then, I would urge caution with regards to this Internet rumor whose veracity is in question with an unverified source as it may be a hoax aimed at causing people to devalue their mining shares/bonds, equipment, etc. in an attempt to get them to sell them at a lower price.

Also, someone should let Butterfly Labs know about the press release since if someone is using their name without their consent then Butterfly Labs may want to proceed with legal action as there are several actionable torts if that is the case.

No ! It is all fake. I am telling you !!!

It is a government shape shifter conspiracy to get us to lose our constitutional rights and sell our mining rigs.

Cheesy How dumb / uninformed can you be Huh People still claiming announcement is fake ? LOL !
