The Olympics were way more entertaining than the first test match between India and England which was boring and ended as a draw. England got lucky since India looked like they would easily win.

Rain continues wreaking havoc as usual and it could affect the upcoming matches between them destroying another high profile series. Sad!
Disappointing ending for sure but hardly a boring match.

England is happy camp atm due to rain, although England had minuscule chance but with lots of "If" . Indeed sad ending for India as they had really good chance of winning this match and start the series with 1 up and not to mention 12 valuable WTC points, now they have to share points with the England.

Indra devta is not looking happy today, its raining in Nottingham. Situation could be very tricky for Indian batters if there is any on-off game play scenario, not to mention overcast condition throughout the game which always favors the pace battery, so superb condition for bowling.

Fingers crossed for the Indian middle order.  Tongue If India wins today then it would be very sweet achievement as they never won a series opener in any SENA country (if i'm not wrong).

So Bongs won their first series against Aussie eh... Just wondering what would happen if every subcontinent team start making only spin friendly wickets and start taking out even new ball seam option when any SENA country visiting subcontinent? Their batmen struggle against spin except couple of batters, so why not give them a taste of their own medicine?

Check the recent Ind vs Eng series. England didn't even bother to select any spinner in their playing XI. Imagine the controversy if any subcontinent team going with only spinners.  Undecided

LOL.. try going with an all-spin attack against a batting lineup that includes Steve Smith and David Warner. They are just going to butcher the bowlers. This time the team sent by Australia was both inexperienced and players were not in good form. And the COVID restrictions might have played a part as well. We have seen this phenomenon around the world, as the visiting teams are struggling to adjust with the host conditions. Happened to South Africa in Ireland, and then again to Australia in West Indies.
Not in Limited overs but in the Tests, doesn't matter Warner, Smudge or Kane. Back to current Ind vs Eng series example... there should be some kind of limit on hypocrisy.

IMO Aussie not taking these t-20 series very seriously or may be experimenting with the new combinations. Their main T-20 specialists were not available and some are focusing on the ashes. Its still big achievement for Bongs tho.

Wow Curran is gone but he damaged enough now hope that India wrap up their tail quickly one more time. May 10-15 more runs?
And England set a target of 208 runs for India and if England could score 300 runs in the second innings i think it is score they can reach tomorrow unless they mess up completely and they have a habit of loosing the first match of a series like others mentioned and it is a match for India to win if everything goes well and the final day is not interrupted by rain.

22 overs remaining in the day and England need to pick wickets to make things interesting.
Its true that they do have a habit of throwing away every 1st game but it also true that they have good chance here. Almost 18-20 overs left in today's game, if our openers clicks and survives today then India is winning 90% , 10% chance of loss if they manage to repeat 36 all out kind of collapse. Hopefully no draw due to rain interruptions. Win or lose doesn't matter much as long as they are playing good cricket and its a long series (cliche  Tongue). So far both teams showed good character which matter most in the test cricket, at least its not a one-sided game.

Joe Fu**ing Root single handedly saved the England. What a player and what a century!! Deserve place in all time great if he manage to improve his conversion rate, which is still bad in comparison of other Big 3 batters (Kohli+Kane+Smith). Match is slipping away from India's reach very quickly, already 200 runs on the scoreboard and Sam Curran is in T-20 mode.

Bloody Boom Boom Bumrah, 5fer for him and 1 more wicket to go.

Its done, Eng : 303 all out
209 runs target, India did good at the end but damn English batters really batted well today.

Finally India was able to make a couple of break through and England trailing by 27 runs and if the weather is clear we will be seeing an interesting match up in the final two sessions of the match tomorrow and hopefully the rain will not mess up the match. I still give advantage to India and if the target is anything below 200 - 220 runs for India then things will get really interesting.
Despite losing 2 wickets runs coming very easy for English batters. Checked some pitch stats and its quite clear that ball is not doing much movement and batting is comfortable as compare to first 3 days. Root was looking shaky at start and bowlers did ask him many question but now he's looking all set for another 50 + score. India need his wicket desperately, if he gets out then some batting collapse is very much possible.

200-220 target chase in 4th inning is dangerous here, even 180 target looks tricky to me but for this England need to put 280-300 runs on the scoreboard first.

I missed the first 3 days live action as i was traveling but was keeping tab on cricbuzz commentary.

Overall very happy and if we keep Indian middle order (Pujara-Kohli-Rahane) out from the discussion then Indians played excellent cricket so far. Everyone chipped in bowling department, even Takhur saab did okay, he did gave few runs during his last spell but before that he was very economical and bagged a prize wicket of Joe Root, would have been great if he managed to score few runs but its okay, may be next time.

I was skeptical about KL Rahul because of his last painful SENA tour but in last couple of weeks he's looking solid, he scored ton in warm up game and now this inning. Although he was lucky but still pitch was doing all sort of trick and it commendable that he stood his ground for long and manage to build small important partnerships with other batters and its very important in English conditions. So many positives for India so far. Sir Jadeja was no surprise and our boy Bumrah is back in form with the ball, his yorkers against the tailenders were amazing to witness. It was pleasing experience that Indian bowlers wrapped up tailenders cheaply and also added very valuable runs. I hope Indian tail make this their habit or atleast they should try to put price on their wickets.

English fielding was below par tbh, they gave so many chances to Indians. Pitch is looking okay to bat on tho, from Indian perspective i hope they bat under overcast condition.  Grin

Eng vs India test update
- Mayank Aggarwal hit by Siraj bouncer during net session so he's out from the first test selection squad. He was first choice opener along with Rohit.

Do they have enough batsmen? I just hope that they will not go to the first test with 5 batsmen in the playing XI, just like what they did during the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Since Mayank is injured, either Gill or Shaw will open alongside Rohit. I don't like either of them, as I can't see any maturity with these players. Both have been given enough chances, but they have wasted them. I would have preferred Devdutt Padikkal, but he doesn't seems to have powerful backers within the selection panel.
Well Gill is already back to India, recovering and eating maa ke hath ka khana. He was the first one to get injured during WTC finals. Shaw is also not available i guess, i didn't hear anything and don't know if he's already in England and available for the selection. I think competition is between new batter Abhimanyu Easwaran and KL Rahul. Rahul did excellent in warm up game but he batted in the middle order so i'm not sure about anything atm, including our playing XI.

To add another one there was some new clash between players and board regarding new contract policy. According to the players board clearly showed their biased when handing out grade or points to the players, like player who play all 3 format for the national team got lower points in comparison of who play only 1 format of the game.

Then there is new contract for every new series, which means no security for the players at all.

The last part really sound ridiculous. Why there should be a new contract after every series? If the board wants to pay the players based on the performance then they can add a variable pay component on top of the annual contract. A new contract after each series sounds really absurd. None of the other boards have this policy of series-wise contracts. It looks to me that some incompetent people are in the SLC right now. The ICC needs to take action, or else I am afraid that they will end up like Zimbabwe.
Politics messing up their entire system, players already facing salary cuts under new national contract. Lankan board even refused to give annual contract to players like Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mattew. I'm not sure if series -wise contracts are permanent thing but recently they gave 2 different contract for Srilanka tour of England (where player got banned due to covid breach) and last series against India.

You're expecting too much from the BCCI, they don't even take players mental health seriously (Ex Ganguly comments on mental health issue.)
I missed the entire 100 ball event completely, i was thinking which match and series you were talking about and i could not find any until you said about the fun elements of the new format  Grin. So how is the match format and is it similar to T20 rules, i need to find the highlights because i am curious to know what they achieve by cutting 20 balls.

What is with Ganguly and mental health issues, i did not understand that part either.
No its completely different from the T-20 or T-10 format.

Well when some reporter asked Ganguly about player's mental health on continues bio bubble for long time, he said that  he played with lot of English, Aussie, Windies and they just give up on mental health and Indians are tolerant on bio-bubble restrictions.

Well couple of million eyeballs are considered success there so no surprise. This format added new fun element to the game, hard to understand at start but seems good time to hangout with friends and watch the game for 2 hour or so, atleast you don't need to wait 4 or 8 hours for the results. You're expecting too much from the BCCI, they don't even take players mental health seriously (Ex Ganguly comments on mental health issue.)

I watched a few matches, and for me it looks too short. I would draw a line at 20-over cricket. Reducing the duration further means that the majority of the players will be there to just add up the numbers. IMO, if they want to reduce the duration to 15-16 overs, then the number of players need to be reduced. What about 8-players per side? If they play with 11 players, then some 4-5 players will be dong most of the batting/bowling and the others will be there just as the spectators without much involvement in the game. In basketball, they recently introduced the 3x3 format (3 players per side) and it proved to be a huge success.
Basketball court and Cricket ground are different set up. Some cricket grounds are way too big so 6 fielders might not able to cover all the ground (not counting Bowler and WK for the obvious reasons ) and it will become more favorable to batsmen.

I was excited about this new initiative but then it got delayed due to covid and i lost the interest completely. It seems there is no buzz for the 100 in cricketing world except England, big reason is almost every foreign star players pulled out from the tournament. Another reason is Last month was busy in terms of bilateral series, majority of cricketing nations and their fans were busy in their respective bilateral series, it also played a big part.

Ind vs Eng test series is about to start so i doubt if too many Indian fans would be interested to watch the 100 anymore.

It is generating a lot of hype within England, but with a limited number of overseas players, the viewership in other countries will be low. Even some of the star players of England (Ben Stokes, James Anderson, Stuart Broad.etc) are not taking part in the hundred. But one thing that I liked is that they gave equal importance for both the men's and women's tournaments. The same franchise have both the men's and women's teams and the format is same for both the tournaments. This is something we can never expect from the BCCI.

No one is watching the Hundred? The ECB launched this tournament with so much fanfare and hype, but I am not seeing much interest from India. They need to generate hype in India as well, because without the revenues from this market the tournament will struggle to sustain itself. Now with the T20I series with Sri Lanka finally over, I hope that more Indian viewers will tune in to watch the Hundred. So far the matches have been of very high quality. But they lack the star power, as West Indian players are busy playing the series against Pakistan and Australian players refusing to take part due to COVID concerns.

You're not wrong when talking about disciplinary behavior of many players during bio bubble but 2 years ban seems overreaction to me, there must be some kind of other reason as well which didn't come out in the public and we still don't know how Krunal got infected. no one from the BCCI and SLC didn't release any statement.

Well.. it is obvious. The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has been engaged with a turbulent relationship with most of its players, ever since a section of them refused to tour Pakistan in 2019. The players claimed that Pakistan was not safe enough to visit, but the board disagreed with their views. The relations have remained tense ever since, and this might have contributed to the high-handedness in dealing with the disciplinary breach.

Both the BCCI and SLC have refused to launch an investigation in to how Krunal got infected. So we may never know the exact reason. We can only consider several possibilities, which may or may not be true.

I am afraid there is more into in this drama, may be some political angle, which we don't know. 2 years ban for breaching the bio bubble doesn't make sense to me. Having said that Gunathilaka and Mendis are controversial cricketers.

BCCI granted Indian team 15 ish days leave that time so they can't take any action against Pant or any other players.

I would support the SLCB, and would further say that other boards also need to learn from them. For the past few months, I have seen players behaving extremely irresponsibly, causing breaches in the bio-bubble and causing postponement or even cancellation of the matches. They have caused tens of millions of USD in losses to the boards and the TV broadcasters. Is it that hard to stay inside your hotel for a few weeks? I would say that these players were lucky that they didn't got a life ban. Those who refuse to obey the rules (especially during the pandemic period) need to be dealt with strictly, irrespective of whether it is Niroshan Dickwella or Krunal Pandya.

~snip~

Any news what will now happen to Prithvi and Suryakumar's England tour. I remember they both were supposed to leave for England after this series. Now as they are in isolation will they be allowed to leave or they will be replaced. If they are replaced then seriously they will be cursing Krunal.
They were saying that they would reach England on 31st June or 1st Aug but so far no update from the BCCI or players, may be they are still in isolation (thanks to krunal  Lips sealed)

~snip~
I missed the wonderful performance by India on the other hand, 81 for 8 in 20 overs  Cool and Sri Lanka winning the series, for all the comments for sending a second string team, Sri Lanka showed how they can tackle in T20 I.
After 1st T-20 it was more like domestic team playing in the international game. Approx 6-7 new guys got their blue cap in last 2 games, so technically it was India C team (Dhawan-Bhuvi-Kuldeep-Chahal were senior members) playing the match when India B team was sitting duck at the hotel due to covid.

Big update

- Ben Stokes taking indefinite break from all cricket (including Test series against India ). He's prioritizing his mental well being.
- Sri Lankan's cricket board banned Dickwella, Mendis and Gunathilaka almost 2 years. Reason -Breaching bio bubble in England-

Big surprise from Sri Lanka. Normally the Asian boards don't have the courage to take disciplinary action against their players (the exception have been the Bangladesh board). Recently there were multiple occurrences of bio-bubble breach with Indian and Pakistani teams, and in none of the cases the players were punished. Rishabh Pant even photographed himself at the Wimbledon without wearing a mask (and that was a few days before he was tested positive for COVID), and yet not even a warning was issued by the BCCI.

I am not in favor of including some bowler in the playing XI solely because his batting is good. In the test format, the top three pace bowlers for India have been - Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammad Shami. All three are genuine tailenders and not known for their batting skills. There are pacers who have better batting skills like Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur. But I don't think that these two can match the others in terms of maturity and bowling skills. And even Siraj/Shardul can't be considered as genuine all rounders. India never had a pace bowling all rounder, ever since Manoj Prabhakar retired in 1996.
India badly need 4th seamer who is able to contribute with the bat when touring England. They can't afford to have 4 tailenders in absence of our semi-all rounder Hardik.

Bhuvi and Shardul both can bat, at least contribute 10-20 runs, which is big plus for number 8 batter. Shardul is better batsman but Bhuvi is arguably one of the best swing bowler especially in England, although his fitness is big issue but i'm sure if he was fit to bowl in the test then he would be very strong contender for sharing new ball. I'm worry about Bumrah's form nowadays, he's doing very badly nowdays.

Lol i wasn't expecting this kind of shameful performance from our batters. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal and Nitish Rana are new guys so i wouldn't blame them much, they deserve more chances and they will learn as they gain more experience but Samson is the biggest disappointment in this series. He's considered T-20 specialist but the way he's performing i don't think selectors are going to pick him up next time, now his fans should sit tight and keep their mouth shut for good.

Hopefully Samson's fans would behave from now on, given his pathetic performance in the series. He doesn't have the temperament or maturity to play in international matches and is best suited for franchise leagues. I wouldn't blame the others, like Gaikwad, Devdutt and Nitish. Gaikwad did well relatively, although he failed to convert his good starts to big scores. DDP did well in his first match, but struggled in the second. Overall, for the Indian fans I don't think that there is any reason to worry. India showed that even their 4th or 5th preference team can compete at international level.
Exactly! Would have been great if we won the T-20 series as well but its okay, in T-20 series there is no positives tho except young bowling department and they tried their best. Good to see Kuldeep bagging some wickets as well. Every batter who went into isolation because of Krunal must be cursing him all day night Grin
