SA vs IND

Can't able to make any sense of what's happening here. Pujara and Rahane are batting like Sehwag and morning session run rate is touching almost 6 (overall 4.5).

Is pitch getting slow or Proteas bowling too bad? Not taking anything from the both batters who went into their business beautifully and played some majestic shots so far.

Runs coming way too easy atm, lead is 103.

Okay they are batting really good, good sign for India in context of game.

Colllllllaaaaaapppppsssee !!!

India was in very strong command but due to short burst from Rabada Proteas are back into the contest.

Lead is only 161 runs and 4 more wickets in the back. 50 more runs here and we're up for nice arm wrestle.

Everytime some dangerous partnership builds up, Thakur comes in and out of nowhere takes the prize wicket. He played only handful games but already becoming very impactful player for the team.

SA still in good position and Bavuma looking solid already but mini collapse could change the tide very quickly.

Trail is only 30 runs now.

Wow just wow, he did it again, 5th wicket for Lord!
Thakur took 7 freaking wickets to dismantle the South African lineup almost single-handedly. He still leaks runs, but he takes wickets consistently which is why he will keep getting more and more well-deserved chances across all formats in the future.

Both Pujara and Rahane are playing well at the moment and South Africa will be in big trouble if India manages to post a lead of 250 or higher.
Mortals shouldn't judge him cause Lord works in a mysterious ways  Grin

I loved that Pujara took a aggressive approach, it was refreshing. Hope he and Rahane continue this partnership and strengthen team position. Yeah India do need 250 runs on the board as target because we are 1 bowler short due to Siraj's hamstring injury and he's not 100% fit. If he is fit then even 220 score looks good on this pitch.

NZ vs BAN

Holy shit... Bangladesh is about to make history!!!

9th wicket down for NZ and lead is only 31 runs.

I disagree with you on the captaincy of Kohli. It was a much needed step. Kohli brought in a lot of bias and nepotism, and even the coach was acting like his sidekick. The team selection was not fair (Ashiwn's case being the classic example). And the fact that India never won an ICC event under the leadership of Kohli speaks a lot. Winning useless bilateral tours is one thing, and lifting the trophy in ICC events is another. I don't think that Rohit or Rahul will be able to bring much change. I would rather have Shreyas or Rishabh as the captain.

If Rohit fails to perform as captain then who else will lead team in ODI and T20? If Rohit fails then Indian team may be in chaos. Right now Indian team is not in a position to win any ICC tournament. Players these days are selected based on there performance in T20 leagues and series, that's primary reason why Indian cricket is going down.
IMO Rohit is temporary fix until they fine tune young guys like KL Rahul or Shreyas, if we look at ongoing SA tour, it looks like that for long term BCCI is looking at KL Rahul as next Indian captain. Doesn't matter if India wins next ICC tournament (White ball) or not under Rohit captaincy as he's already 34.

Very handy runs for SA.

What is wrong with these two Cheteshwar Pujara & Ajinkya Rahane? You may be out of form for a couple of matches not for a couple of series. Why can't they be replaced by some other talented youngsters who will give whatever it takes to cement their name in the test team? These two are just like government employees now they know they will get paid for doing nothing.

These two seems to have very powerful backers in the BCCI. Talented youngsters like Ishan Kishan and Venkatesh Iyer are sitting in the bench, and these oldies are being given chance after chance despite repeated failures. The same was the case with Hardik Pandya in limited overs team selection. He was not dropped, despite not contributing either with the bat or with the ball. Overall, the selection policy for the Indian national team is very vague and controversial. And it has remained as such for the past several decades.
Pujara and Rahane earned their criticism without any doubt and i'm expecting one of em to get drop in next match but you can't be serious about throwing name of Ishan Kishan and Venkatesh Iyer in red ball cricket. They are good prospect in limited over cricket but their FC numbers are not up to mark as far as test cricket is concern, if i'm not wrong then there are like at least 10-15 good batters standing in queue for their test call up.

Bangladesh bossing the game at Bay Oval. Hope they wrap up kiwi's inning soon and may be under 100 chase? Finger cross no collapse also.

Edit

SA was sailing smooth but Lord Thakur happened. Indians got their breakthrough.

Proteas still in control tho.

Woaaahhh 2nd wicket for Lord!!

Lord Thakur : 4.5 Overs, 8 runs and 3 wickets.
2966  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: January 03, 2022, 05:23:19 PM
Props to Bangladesh, so far they dominated 3 out of 2 days. They have 4 wickets in the bank and if by any chance they manage to add 50-70 more runs then their chances are looking really good.
You mean ‘2 out of 3 days’, right? The first day was in favour of New Zealand. Bangladesh maintaining the dominance in the game from the start of day 2. Now they have taken 73 runs lead and still 4 wickets left in their first innings. Finally the betting odds is in favour of Bangladesh after the end of day 3. But the most possible outcome is draw now.

Virat is struggling with upper back spasm and misses out the match, no 100th test celebration for him in this series, may be in India? And surprisingly KL is leading the team. It looks like Rahane counting his days, he might not get any chances when playing in India, may be few games when playing in SENA countries as he's one of the good batter of pace despite his poor run.
Probably, Virat Kohli will play his 100th test match against Sri Lanka in their home ground. Rahane got out in the first ball today, and India collected 202 runs only in the first innings. Looks like the pitch is bowling friendly. South African batsman also struggling to play comfortably.
Yeah yeah lol

I'm rooting for Bangladesh as they are underdog in alien condition and up against very strong Kiwi side.

Broadcaster would be very happy to know that Virat is achieving this feat at home ground.

Yeah seam friendly and looks low scoring game to me, in last tour India was standing at more or less same situation after first day of play and in the end won by 60 ish runs as Proteas were batting last. We have 4 days of cricket left so let's see.

I think if ICC wants Cricket to be in Olympics, it has to ensure cricket spreads across Europe or the Americas, currently, cricket-playing nations are too skewed, 85% of them are from Asia & the African continent, only a few from here and there. The problem with popularising any sport per se is the viewership, cricket is a commercial sport unlike most Olympic sport, which means you need a good viewership for cricket in a country to make it a cricketing nation, but the problem is most of the countries don't even understand cricket, how in the world then you can popularise cricket there? One way is player migrations and the second better approach is to hold local cricket events in these countries, just like the couple of matches that happened in the US in form of a veteran league.
All they need to do is add more teams into t-20 icc tournaments but No, they won't! Because they don't want to repeat nightmares of 2007 WC and then they come up with 3 million bid in front of Olympic committee, which is modern term of bribe. No wonder Olympic committee doesn't take them seriously.

Ahan? I didn't know that story, why would the Olympic committee need money. From what I have heard they are already pretty rich, they take a huge cut from the host nation which organizes the Olympics and also take a good money in form of broadcasting rights and annual memberships, it's generally the host nation which ends up in most losses everytime, the IOC makes a lot.

Yeah, this idea was floating from quite some time (since 2018 or so) and they are about to execute this into reality asap it seems that its a normal process (didn't find any concrete info tho) if you want to apply for Olympic inclusion.

Squad for ODI series

-Rohit is injured so KL Rahul is leading the Indian team.

Rohit being injured is very unfortunate for India. But nevertheless, after their disappointing T20 WC run, hope they will bounce back again against South Africa.

Team India looks quite solid in the bowling department and I think Virat and Rahul will have to play an important role in the batting department.

Overall SA is a very well team-oriented squad and as always they are very good in the fielding department. I'm hoping for a very competitive series and I'm eagerly waiting for some close thrilling matches. I Hope Rahul will do good in the captaincy role.
Kohli is waiting for his 71st century, 2 years and counting  Roll Eyes

Don't know why they included Bumrah, he could use some rest. The way he's performing in Tests, he's national treasure, in fact he should be covered in wool by the BCCI and may be give him $1-2 million worth of extra contract so that he can play only in tests and WC, no need to waste his energy on bilateral limited cricket.

This is some gutsy response from the Bongs. First with the ball on the second day and then with the bat. They are setting good example for other teams when visiting NZ -- India i'm talking about you lol-
Bangladesh as a team has a tendency to show some glimpse of becoming good team but unfortunately nowadays its once in a blue moon kind of event. I really hope that they compete with the same intensity in next 3 remaining days and produce some cracking match for the spectators.
I can't say what will be the result, but Bangladesh is at the front seat of the match now. However, the betting odds is still in favour of New Zealand. I'm wondering why the betting sites are underestimating team Bangladesh like that.

Bangladesh will loss this match if their batting lineup collapse on the day 3. Otherwise I can't see any reason to underestimate them at this point. Probably New Zealand is favourite as they are playing in their home condition and the recent performance of Bangladesh isn't so good.
It was excellent response but i wouldn't say front seat. Match is pretty even atm, 1 day won by Kiwis and 2nd day belongs to Bongs.

Despite their brave effort, i think Kiwis are fav cause Bongs will bat last and chase could be difficult. Happy if proven wrong.

BCCI is everything but delusional and bloody damn good when it comes to money printing scheme so they would focus on IPL only. BCCI will continue to play bilateral series tho but if things go really south then worst case scenario would be PIG 3 playing each other and in longer run Pakistan too.

If i'm not wrong then Sithara is pointing fingers towards IPL only, after all that's where BCCI earns money and if everything goes well with India's overall economy in next 10 years then i would say IPL going to explode real good. BCCI will add more teams for sure and will add more billions of dollars in their piggy bank, IPL media rights in value already surpassed the all ICC tournament rights combined. Watch out for upcoming media bidding, according to my reading its going break all previous records.

Apart from the IPL, the state-level leagues such as the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), T20 Mumbai League and the Karnataka Premier League also have the potential to bring big bucks for the BCCI. So far they have ignored this sector, and have imposed a lot of restrictions (ban on foreign players and even players from other state associations for example). Another new revenue source could be the WIPL. We have debated about this a lot, so I am going to skip. A third proposal is to start a second-division league, comprising of tier-2 and tier-3 cities (such as Raipur, Jammu, Guwahati.etc).
Sorry, i don't know much about state leagues so can't add anything useful in conversation but hope its not some amateur level league? WIPL is crucial for women cricket in India. I hope someone knock some sense into BCCI.

If the future of Sri Lankan cricket is looking bad... then what do you say about that of teams like Pakistan and Bangladesh? At least Sri Lanka managed to reach the finals. But the one sided nature of matches is a cause for worry. The gap between pig-3 (India in this case) and the rest is widening. Cricket is dying outside the tier-1 test nations. And even among the lower ranking test nations, the future is not looking very bright. I won't be surprised if India ends up like the US in basketball, in 5-10 years from now.
NBA in The USA and IPL in India is completely different, and I am not agreed with you here that India could on this level in next few years because we have 3 different formats and all need some good quality and skills for having good form which is not possible for them with just IPL their other domestic set up is not good enough for producing good players and Australia having very good record in this with their strong domestic system now New Zealand is also improving quality after having some good intention from youths and better results in last two ODI world cups with WTC win is bonus for them.

England requires some good changes, then surely they will also back in form with some better quality. With all difficulties and dirty politics, Pakistan is also doing good in cricket for many years.

-Australia farming points by beating broke English team. Australia would be strong candidate for finals if they whitewash this series, hope England win at least 1 match and 1 draw lol
-Lanka looks like a underdog.
-Already said many times that Pakistan has a excellent chance to qualify into finals. They are playing all tests -Home/away- at subcontinent.
-India is winning and leading series nowadays but still their berth is not fixed and looks tough despite winning every test series, don't forget its all depends on -winning % of matches not series win.

24 teams tournament

@JSRAW I don’t think ICC will ever try to take BCCI out of the equation, because they very well know that BCCI can start their own tournaments and completely bury ICC revenues.

Lastly out of curiosity say ICC were to make it a 24 team T20 World Cup then which teams would be added? because I know only few teams, and even then I can’t reach the 24 teams count needed for your idea to be implemented.

We already have 10 usual suspects (Ind +Eng+Pak+Ban +Sa+Afg + Aus +Nz + WI +SL ). As of now few names comes into my mind such as Ireland + Zimbabwe +UAE + Singapore + Nepal +  Netherlands + Oman + Namibia + Qatar + Papua New Guinea then add few more teams so i think its not a impossible task to create new set up if ICC gets their act together and willing to do some meaningful change.

Edit

7th down!!

With too early wickets for india very much sums up the match in the favor of India. De Kock was the last hope for South Africa but he was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj and soon after that Wiaan Mulder  was caught on the bowling of Mohammed Shami.

The first test belongs to India and south african needs to focus on building some batting friendly wickets.
Agreed with Sithara, you don't want to introduce batting friendly wickets in SA. This would be suicidal for current lot of Protea's bowlers and team. Nortje is already ruled out from the series so another reason to not introduce flat track.

I wasn't sure of Indian victory at Centurion but now its only 3 wickets away. Indian team has a long bad habit of losing every first game of the series so its good feeling.

Hope no rain, Plzzz

Well done Team India...

Now i'm starting to like Buvama. Gun fielder in circle and batting exceptionally well with responsibility when his team need the most.

India need 5 wickets and SA need 150 runs, plenty of overs in the bank and only forecast could ruin the mood.

SA atm playing excellent cricket.

Edit

Lol Miya ji got the De Kock. India now need 4 wickets.

2979  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 29, 2021, 09:12:21 PM
South Africa need 262 more runs to win the test match but they are 2 wickets down at the moment with 43 on the board. I want to place the bet on this match and i fancy placing my bet on a draw and hope there is rain on the last day of the match.
If there is no rain, then both teams would have equal chances of winning, however, India might have a slight advantage.

Indian batting failed miserably in the second innings, not even a single one scored 50. India manage to give target of 305 to south africa, thanks to there 130 runs lead. With three down and 230 more runs required, I would say better place bet on India as they have better chances of winning the game.
With all due respect to you and couple of posters in this thread. It clear to me that you guys didn't watch the match (Saying because i did) and posting by simply checking the scorecard. I don't blame you but please you don't need to exaggerate. Pitch was extremely tough to bat on and i'm not even bringing declaration decision gymnastic and rain predictions (One of the reason everyone was into slogging or got out due to uneven bounce), there are already big cracks on the pitch, source is live feed FYI.

This would be historic win for SA if they manage to score remaining 211 runs. Yeah that's right SENA countries thinks that's way, for dim Indian fans winning at home conditions on tough contest is normal affair. Tbh In current scenario Proteas even take draw as a big win.
2980  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 29, 2021, 10:42:53 AM
SA vs IND game might turn into good contest and some sort of mental gymnastic on declaration decision, only because of Rain forecast.

Kohli & co need to thread carefully about how long they want to bat or what target they want to set for Proteas. Pitch also looking dangerous for the batters so 250 seems defendable total but considering Bumrah's new injury, they should target close to 300 runs.

Edit

Lead is now 241 runs and they are 6 down.

Edit

SA need 304 runs to win.
