Pant is no where close to other players when talking about captaincy of National team. He only got DC's captaincy because Iyer got injured and Ashwin- Dhawan due are oldies. Also Ashwin was new edition to the Delhi's squad. Prithvi was better candidate for the captaincy but he's not regular player of Indian squad and has no brand value when comparing to Pant. So Pant was obvious choice.
When it comes to national side KL Rahul is considered future captain after Rohit-Virat. If by any chance Shreyas, Prithvi and Gill cement their position in limited overs squad then they are also strong candidate (specially Shreyas).
I was talking about a scenario which is likely to occur after 3-4 years (after the retirement of Virat). I assume that by then Pant will have much better chances when compared to any of the other players (Rahul, Shreyas and Shaw). Only Pant has his spot assured in the playing XI, and even for Rahul it is not 100% guaranteed. And there is not much competition as well, since the other options (Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan.etc) have failed to make their mark even after repeated opportunities handed out to them. He might emerge as a competitor in near future but BCCI is very consistent in their approach when appointing captain. They like longevity, they always back their skipper despite some failure and avoid changing captain like clothes. Which is very admirable quality imo. So if by any chance frontrunners "Rahul, Shryas" gets chance to lead the team then it would tough for Pant for the very same reason i mentioned. My reading is that for very short term Rohit is going to lead the national team similar to Dravid and then they will hunt for new captain. |

After dominating the entire season, Delhi Capital failed to reach the final. Is it because of their misfortune or their stupidity that they have been defeated? The batsmen performed well against Chennai in the previous match. The target of 173 runs is enough to win this pitch. Yet they lost. The target of 136 runs against KKR was not enough. But the bowlers have performed well in this match. 4 Kolkata batsmen were out for zero runs.
Bit of misfortune and bit of Stupity. Can't find much reasoning of stupidity tho considering these pitches looks really tough to bat on. They are unlucky franchise for sure, they always put good show for the spectators through out the competition but always chicken out at the playoffs aka semifinal. This is 5th time they got knocked out at the same stage and last year poor guys were runner up. KKR's spin department doing heavy lifting for them and almost every batter in the Chennai is excellent player of spin so contest should be juicy. |

@LittleBitFunny IPL is no longer a league just for India, it’s an platform for player’s from all over the world to show their talent and secure a direct promotion to the playing 11 of their respective countries. Also BBL isn’t as heavily advertised as IPL is, and that’s a key factor why IPL is more watched then BBL. To add more into this, they are also adding 2 more teams and its going to get bigger now. More opportunity for additional players to showcase their talent. IPL already surpassed the ICC in terms of revenue and i won't be surprise if gap between them increase in coming years. Can imagine IPL dominating ICC tournament and bilateral series in next decade when BCCI manage to add more teams in the IPL. |

There was nothing to predict I had a hunch that KKR will defeat DC. The way they have performed in the last two matches I somehow feel they might win this season of IPL. I might be over confident here but anything is possible in T20 format as you said. The finals will be interesting to watch.
It is a shame that DC is not playing in the finals, because they had the best team balance. Also, this is a personal setback for Rishabh Pant, who is being regarded as one of the players who are likely to replace Virat Kohli as the Indian captain in the future. If DC had won the trophy this time, then he could have been in a better position. Now he faces increased competition within his own franchise (Shreyas Iyer). Still, it was a very close match. Delhi's bowlers are also excellent but KKR bowling stat in Sharjah creating doubt in my mind. DC losing 2 back to back game also not helping.
It's very tough to predict who will win since both teams have been performing well in recent times. I bet on KKR since they are the underdogs in this match and they didn't disappoint so far by restricting DC to a low total. Iyer played a test match innings while Hetmeyer getting run out was a big blow to DC. KKR restricted RCB in a similar manner in the last match and won which is why I hope they replicate the same in this one too. KKR moving forward comfortably, once again KKR's opener did excellent job for their team. Only 49 runs needed and 10 wickets in the bank so should be easy task if they keep thing simple. Its their game from here. Delhi got $ucked up again in qualifier stage lol. They need only miracle. @Little Mouse Would have been great if you could have join us but anyway, may be in next pool. |

It seems to me that first real match is starting from 23 Oct (Aus vs SA). I was under impression that WC kicking in from 17 ish oct but first few matches are just warm up games, so guess we have 10 days or something but ofc don't wait until the last minute.
This is news to me. I thought it was starting next week too when I checked the schedule last time. It would be better to add the official start date of the competition in the title of this thread in order to avoid any misunderstandings. BTC looks like it will breach its ATH soon. Am currently waiting for BTC fees to go down so that I can send my payment to the pool address. Officially it start from the 17 oct but starting round is more like qualification round so it got mixed up. Anyway already added more details about groups and dates, should be okay now. Let me know if something looks off. We have LTC option too but take your time, no rush. |

Virat Kohli has played well last month but the only regret is that no one has scored well except him. However, when Virat Kohli retires, he may relax and play well. Virat Kohli was in very good form before he got the captaincy. After taking over the captaincy, the performance gradually decreased.
Virat is a very egoistic personality. I don't know whether he can adjust himself if someone else is captaining the RCB. Also, if he steps down from captaincy, who will be the replacement? Apart from AB de Villiers, none of the other players don't have much experience. Glenn Maxwell may be another choice, but I don't know whether he had captained T20 teams before. Else, RCB needs to go for some of the promising young players like Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal or Devdutt Padikkal. But that will be a very risky move. AB de Villiers could be his replacement if Virat Kohli relinquishes the captaincy. I don't think Maxwell is a better captain than Virat. RCB's performance was bad, it wasn't for the captain. Their batting was irregular and many experienced and talented players were in the squad. But they was not in form. Kohli himself could not give the expected service to the team. However, I don't think there will be any improvement in the team if Maxwell is made the captain. Ab de Villiers is 37 yo so he should be out of the contest, franchise might go after younger guy for this role in auction, most probably Indian player and new addition to the RCB team. Upcoming auction is going to very juicy for everyone. Going with local captain also help with the team balance as it gives freedom to select 4 in form overseas players. |

Losing is the RCB's fault. RCB team may have star players but if they are not well coached and refuse to learn from errors, they will continue to lose knockout games. This is also Virat Kohli's last match as RCB captain. RCB lost again in an eliminator match. This season has been great, but it ends in disappointment. KKR had one of the best comebacks in the middle of a tournament! Having their Qualifier 2 match at the same location is good for them.
13 years of journey, fair amount of cult figure type of role models in the franchise over the years still no IPL trophy, Have to say RCB's fanbase is very loyal. Every year they think this time their team is going to do something special and boom, every single time.

With this loss RCB is out and it was Kohli's last match as a RCB's captain, at least for the RCB. One would say that auctions are coming soon and some other franchise could pick him but it would be big surprise if RCB management doesn't go after him along with the AB de Villiers. As far as IPL trophies are concern Kohli might have failed but he had a big impact on his team and opponents with his bat and charismatic personality. I personally can't forget his ridiculously amazing 2016 stint in the IPL, where he scored like 4 tons and ended up close to 1000 runs. As a batsman, Dhoni hasn't done much in this tournament before the Qualifier vs Delhi Capitals, but as a captain he did a great job. I certainly understand why MS Dhoni is known as the greatest finisher in cricket history with 18 runs off just six balls to lead CSK vs Delhi Capitals! He saved his best for last.
It was a poor over from Tom Curran. He (Tom) did an excellent job till then, conceding less than a run per ball and picking up important wickets. But Dhoni had something else in mind. And the DC captain just looked clueless. Personally I thought that it was better to go for Anrich Nortje or Kagiso Rabada in the last over, because Tom didn't had many outings for DC this season. Anyway, CSK is just one win away from the trophy. And that will be complete turn around from their pathetic performance in 2020. Tom Curran was looking DC's best bowler that night and Rabada looked off in comparison of other but ofc he should have bowled the 19 over instead of Avesh Khan as Rabada is experienced. Some might say that Dhoni played the 4d chess. He promoted Thakur up in the order just to make Tom Curran look good so that he can bowl final over. |

Intense matches. SRH would require a miracle to win at this point though they are trying hard and I applaud them for their effort. I guess MI will win by 30-40 runs or something and move to the 5th position in the table.
On the other hand, RCB won against DC thanks to a six by Bharat from the final freaking ball. Absolute insanity. However, they will stay in the 3rd position as expected.
Damn! got to say both matches were intense, not from the plays off point of view but cricket. Very happy to see SKY and Ishan Kishan making contribution and showing sign of form before the WC, now they are unpdropable IMO (before there was slight chance). Before this UAE leg new guy Srikar Bharat was considered pure test player in domestic but i'm sure this perspective has changed today for the good reasons, at least for some. Who all saw Ambani batting today?

Benchoo MI is out, not officially tho but they are out. There is no way they can catch up with KKR's runrate even if they win the next game.
I don't remember the last time when MI did not qualify for the playoffs. Their next game against SRH is pointless for both sides basically. Hell yeah, there’s no way MI can qualify. I have run a calculation to check it out but they don’t have a way to qualify.
This is a scenario for the mighty Mumbai Indians, well nothing mighty in this season tho lol . 
Our World Cup chances looks shitty to me now. 6 Mumbai Indian players got selected in T-20 WC squad. Rohit - Not in good form but he's champion batsman and arguably legendary white ball opener. Kishan- Going through some lean patch. SKY- Also not looking too great. Pandaya - Big Disappointment because he was one of the key member. Rahul Chahar - Poor form and failed to impress in his latest gig in the UAE. Bumrah - Well he never disappoint.
