He's not inexperienced in the IPL. Already featured in 60 + games, he's wicket keeper + opener/1st down + Young Indian batter.

Bit expensive for sure but this year IPL has 10 teams that's means every franchise need at least 10ish Indian players in the squad hence the more demand for Indian players, that means less payment for foreign players.
True, but they still overpaid. I find it weird that they decided to shell out so much for him to be honest. Players like Warner were bought for less than half of that amount which seriously blows my mind.

Also, I was stunned to see Smith go unsold while Kohli was retained by his franchise. Players like Stokes etc would probably go unsold too if they participated in this season.

Majority of Players in the Marquee list got bad deals, except Shreyas Iyer but he's up for captaincy slot so his price tag make sense. Warner and Quinton De Kock were the main victims, historically every franchise avoid bidding war during first round (Marquee auction), same thing happened yesterday. These 2 batters could have fetch 8-9 crore easily but its a bad luck that they were up for grab at the very start. It happened to so many players in the past as well Rohit, Bumrah comes to my mind when they were sold to Mumbai less than million bucks. Having said that I'm sure if Warner and De Kock perform well in upcoming season then they are going to get extra money -under the table deal-.

Kamine paani ki tarah paisa bahate hai. Kishan is bit expensive but at the same time he was with MI for so long and part of their team building plan, earlier they were paying peanuts for him.

Good to see uncapped Indian players getting big money.

Even before the auctions started, a lot of people were predicting record breaking amounts for Ishan Kishan. Mumbai Indians could only retain 4 players, else they would have retained him for a much smaller amount. In the end, he was sold for more than $2 million, while Kieron Pollard (who was retained) will receive just $800,000. And I am not surprised with the money-splurging attitude from the franchises. If they can spend $1 billion for purchasing the franchise, then spending 0.1% or 0.2% of that for a good player is just like peanuts.
Guys like Pollard get extra money just to stay with the MI. It also happened with Bumrah and Rohit. I don't have any source for this info but its well known fact (In domestic cricket) that franchise compensate valuable players off the records.

An inexperienced player is being charged an extremely high price for 15.25 crores. The price should be less than 10 crores or 12 crores at most. However, SRH ruined the game. Mumbai Indians made their first purchase of the day today, and it's a massive deal for Ishan Kishan! That was such a silly move on their part. Neither Quinton de Kock nor Trent Boult were chosen over Ishan Kishan. It doesn't make sense to me.

Are we going to have a competition this season as well or going to skip? Did I miss a thread? It would be nice to have a competition once again. Would really love and appreciate if anyone host.
We are only 2 months away from the tournament & yet no discussion on the pool?
Thanks for the reminder bhai, i was about to do the same but was waiting for auction to get over. Its schedule from 2nd April so yeah we do have fair amount of time.

I believe we'll have the pool and i think @Royse777 would make his comeback as organiser.

Holy cow... Ishan kishan (WK+Opener)

That was unexpected for this guy INR 15.25 crore by MI. RCB got Harshal Patel and Hasarangsa for INR 10.75 crore each. It is raining money for now. Till now Ishan Kishan is the most expensive player for IPL 2022. I do not think any franchise will bid for English players this time as they have not performed last year and also the humiliating defeat is Ashes.

All rounders are in demands ridiculously. CSK and MI are being cheeky but that's the only reason they are successful franchise. Rajasthan Royal seems to grab fair amount of fine players according to Batting-bowling combination.

OZ are not attracting much bids because of their commitment ( Pak Tour clashing with IPL). Same with English players, their record is shit in India so no wonder no one willing to bid on them, Roy was steal tho.

On the other hand, India's top order failed even today. The collection of the first 3 batsmen was only 23 runs. For a long time now we have been seeing weak top order in India.

Perhaps time has come to drop Kohli? When was the last time that he scored a century in an international match? As usual the middle and lower middle order rescued India. Washington Sundar and Deepak Chahar made crucial contributions. On the other hand, the West Indies bowlers once again displayed their incompetence in cleaning up the tail. And I never had any expectations from the West Indies batsmen. They are not suitable for any format other than T20 and as expected they were bowled out in less than 40 overs.
His last ODI century came in 2019, that year he scored 7 tons. 5 in ODI and 2 in Tests. After that everything went down the hill as far as his next ton is concern.

But dropping him sounds strange.

2020 ODI ( 9 innings) 16 , 76, 91, 63, 25, 12, 21, 87, 78

2021 ODI ( 3 innings) 60, 79, 10

2022 ODI  ( 6 innings) 51, 5, 65, 8, 18, 0

Total 18 ODI innings and he scored 9 fifties. He's victim of his own records.

IPL 2022 auction starts today. A total of 590 players will go under the hammer in a two days affair. A total of 10 franchisee will be participating in the auction this year. This year who will be the most expensive player? Any guess? I think it will be an Indian player this time.
600 total, they recently added 10 more players (u19), the ones who already fits the criteria.

Captains are in demand this time (Iyer), including all rounders. In foreign players category Windies players like Holder/Alzarri Joseph and Proteas players are going to attract war bids, i hope. Warner should be in demand too.
2868  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: February 11, 2022, 01:48:07 PM
Yes he is from Pakistan and migrated to SA for better cricket future. In Pakistan there is lot of talent for cricket but due to corrupt system talent is neglected and players who have relatives in PCB makes it to playing 11. Imam ul Haq (nephew of Inzamam), Azam Khan ( the fat giant is son of Moin khan), Usman Qadir ( son of Abdul qadir) are few living examples of current time. Imran tahir has played 20 tests and 107 ODIs for SA, so it's a good migration for him.

This issue of nepotism is present in all of the South Asian boards and there is no quick fix solution. Even in the Indian team, useless players like Hard dick Pandya were retained in the squad for many years, despite not contributing either with the bat or with the ball. And in the end, promising youngsters like Venkatesh Iyer and T Natarajan finds themselves out of the team. Even from Bangladesh, I have heard about similar stories. But SENA nations are more professional when it comes to selection. Their selection polices are very unbiased.
I agree nepotism is big problem but not in team, instead its in management as far as Indian cricket is concern. So i think you're mixing nepotism with favoritism.

Guy like Pandya comes from very humble background and had virtually zero backing when he started his career. I don't like his personality at all when it comes to discipline, attitude etc but i can't point finger on him as far as nepotism is concern.

I have never seen nepotism when selectors select the National team and i admire this quality of BCCI because sometime local management neglect this very attitude when selecting Ranji, club team etc.

Venky and Nattu are talented players but i can't blame selectors because in recent time Indian bench strength is getting bigger. Its nice headache for cricket loving country but tough on selectors and they are bound to make mistake sometimes. Nattu was injured btw (surgery i suppose).

If nepotism is there like you mentioned then where are Arjun Tendulkar, Rohan Gavaskar, Binny etc?
2869  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: February 11, 2022, 06:48:48 AM
Not so easy because test status is not freebies anymore, like it used to be in the past. But there is a possibility, if by any chance domestic system collapse completely. It includes everything List A, ODI (Young, adult team -Men/Women), Grounds, funding etc etc

Agreed. Once a team is granted test status, then it is permanent. Only in the case of Zimbabwe, the status was suspended for a limited duration. Right now we have got 4 good teams at the top (India, Australia, England and New Zealand) and then 5 other teams at the bottom who are unable to compete with the former group. And then we have 3 who are there just to make up the numbers (Zimbabwe, Ireland and Afghanistan). I have long argued for three divisions of 5 teams each, but it will never be implemented by the ICC.
Agreed.. Relegation is the solution.

I was thinking of writing detail post on this topic but already found excellent article. Following articles got tons of info on Problems of WTC and test format. Some good suggestions are mentioned, highly recommended.

Because, this healthy competition is very important for them and all cricket community. Right now we have IPL, PSL and Vitality Blast these are doing much better, but now few are having issues which need to settle before we are late and these disappear from sight, and we lost some good cricket from many players.
I understand your perspective which is morally correct, but you need to understand the fact that reality is something else entirely. No board gives a crap about how their decisions will impact other boards since money is all that matters to them.

This logic applied to every single Cricket board out there(Not just BCCI) and it makes sense to be honest since it's the survival of the fittest overall.
Post made by savetheFORUM sounds like socialism type solution to me, help the marginalized.

But afraid picture is quite different like you mentioned, every respective league is based on private investment and motivated by revenues only. In competitive market if you're not fit or your product is incapable to adapt then you're destined to fail as it should be.

Read that report but its seems like they are going to make some exception this time. No one can raise the doubt if they do because since the pandemic started there was not much domestic cricket going around in India and when it was on these kids were preparing for the WC or already playing u-16 or so.

@JSRAW honestly I don’t think that anyone will have objections if BCCI makes exemptions for once, because these player’s need to get IPL experience too, and who knows one or two might even make it to the team India’s squad if they perform constantly in IPL. Lastly I’m looking forward for the auctions to begin, because there’re so many good player’s up for the grabs, and when the auction ends it’ll be really interesting to see the final squad of each team.
That would be overstretched if we think some might get fasttrack and find their place into national setup. It's extremely tough, unless someone is generational or exceptional talent, may be after 3-4 years but not right away. Ideally they should grind in domestic circuit first and crack into India A, then we can think about fast track.
2872  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: February 10, 2022, 08:16:02 AM
West Indies is good only in one format (T20) and they are uncompetitive in any other. Their batsmen are good only for short quick blasts and they don't have the ability to build an innings patiently.

So does this mean we may see some good competition in the T20 series which is starting from 16 of feb on the famous Kolkata ground ?

Yeah, very much possible unless pitches are slow. If not then we can expect cracking T-20 series and even Windies dominating the Indians.

Along with Zimbabwe, the test status of West Indies need to be revoked. There are far better teams out there.
What is the exact criteria of revoking the test status of a country?  As a team playing for so many years and performing badly for a year and you will revoke its test status?  I think the status should not be revoked on the basis of recent performances.

It was another easy win for the Indian today at Ahmedabad. Though Indian lost early wickets but Rahul and Yadav partnership was enough to make above par score and defend it against a weak team of WI. The last match is no interest but India will prefer a 3-0 over a 2-1 series win.
I wonder if India will go with the same team or give some new players a chance to play in the next game ?

India is always too good at home soil and reverse abroad as evident from there performance against weak SA team in SA. West Indies are having worst time in there cricket history as they lost ODI series against Ireland recently so this whitewash is expected.
In white ball cricket home-away condition doesn't matter much, especially in modern cricket but okay your argument suggest that India is home track bully without any stats.

Let's check the data of last decade.

2010-2019 - All ODI win % is 63, highest.

Away wins % in ODI is 60, again highest.

Its does look easy win but during the Windies inning there were moments when match was slipping away from the Indians. Windies lower order managed to give scare to Indian bowlers, guess they watched the recent WI vs ENG LOI.

Having said that its good to see our middle order performing and standing up. IMO KL should become middle order batsman in ODI, he provide some solidity when top order fails. His numbers looks very solid too so no doubts on consistency. When bowlers successfully defend sub par score then hard to find any fault. Prasidh was impressive, Washi was also good even tho he gave freebie at start but he bowled very well to danger man Odean Smith.

Thakur, Washi, Siraj, Hooda and Prasidh are already new in ODI setup. Only Thakur played 18ish match, rest of em are hardly 4-5 matches old.

The Indian Premier League auction pool will have to wait a little longer for eight players from India's U-19 World Cup-winning team. Because only U-19 players who have competed in at least one first-class match or list A game are eligible to participate in the auction. List of players who are not eligible are Dinesh Bana, Shaik Rasheed, Ravi Kumar, Nishant Sindhu, Siddarth Yadav, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Manav Parakh, Garv Sangwan, Nishant Sindhu, Siddarth Yadav, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Man

Some interesting news coming from the ECB. Next month they are schedule to play 3 test matches in the WI and they sacked their coach Chris Silverwood along with Director Ashley Gills and now they also dropped their leading wicket taker Anderson-Broad duo from the test team.

https://i.imgur.com/tqSQnGN.jpg

Looks like England is playing with young players. West Indies plays against England once after the T20 series of India. West Indies played the previous test series against Sri Lanka and lost the series. Previously England have played against West Indies in the T20 series and lost it. Test format and T20 will be completely different, and with the matches played by West Indies some used to be very interesting for the performance and at times goes completely one sided.

-Giving young players chance is one of the many reason along with rotation policy.
-Losing Ashes seems main reason but its weird considering it was their batter who failed to perform, bowlers were decent.

Another different but controversial point of view is also coming. Anderson-Board both are considered bully in the dressing room, they don't respect their captain Joe Root and have a habit of undermining his authority on-off ground all the time. They also don't take any kind of responsibility and mock-bully new players in the squad.

India will be playing with WI tomorrow in the 2nd ODI and I am not expecting WI to perform in a similar fashion that they did in the first match. The first match was a cakewalk for the Indian side after WI scored just 176 runs. Chahal and Sunder destroyed the WI batting side and hopefully, they will do the same tomorrow. WI have to try to level series otherwise there will not be any interest left in this tournament.

It will be almost impossible for west indies to show any resistance against the strong Indian team and they stand almost zero chance of winning because of their consistent poor performance.

Not only this series have any interest nor it has any good betting odds. If you bet on india, you will get so low odds and the profit ratio will be so much low. West Indies odds are high but if you bet on WI, it's very likely that you will lose the bet.
Indian team is good but not unbeatable. If we look closely at Indian bowling line up then they are very inexperienced in ODI, there are only 2 senior bowlers in current squad Chahal and Kuldeep, latter is warming the bench. At the same time Indian middle order is fairly inexperienced as well.
2879  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: February 08, 2022, 05:33:28 AM
2 test series are lined up and squads are out from the visitors.

-NZ vs SA
-PAK vs AUS (4 March) Good to see that Aussie are sending full strength team. WTC points are on the line, it should be exciting series. No Langer tho, he's not Aussie's coach anymore. 3 spinners in the squad, that's nice.
