1781  Other / Meta / Who's to blame for the spam? Careless bounty managers/spammy users? Both? on: July 13, 2018, 03:57:53 PM
Certain managers allow for a lot of spamming to take place under their threads. In my view, it's in their interest to allow for the facilitation of such spam because it simply gives their threads more visibility. I know thatthis keeps being abused as we speak by many campaigns.

Even though they have means to track tasks for the bounty automatically they prompt users to post under their threads with fake "verification" messages that only include a username. My question here is the following: Who's to blame? Is it the manager or the users?

Points on the manager:
- Benefits from responses, good or bad quality -> more visibility to the thread
- Has means to track work with forms or even automation
- Misleads users to believe that they need to post in his thread in order for them to join the campaign and get rewards, even though the supposed "proofs" involve accounts that have no connection with bitcointalk like Telegram, twitter, FB...

Perhaps the only acceptable reason to asks for proofs on bitcointalk would be use involving bitcointalk accounts like signature/avatar campaigns. Everything else is unnecessary. But the state of requesting such posts allows for many faux 'join' messages to be posted for the purposes of spam-bumping. Potentially even utilizing automated posts with bots or whatnot. This is easy to miss between hundreds of such posts.

I know that 'Joined' type posts are prohibited as well as unececerry posts as per the rules bellow:
Users posting "joined" type posts when not required or allowed will be BANNED
Incentivizing posting via low effort tasks (likes, follows, etc.) is NOT allowed

But I don't see those being enforced as it should.
Currently, join type messages on campaigns that encourage this type of spam (f.e. this one) are being deleted but this is really the hard way to approach this.
I believe that mods should FIRST trash campaign threads that are seen to encourage 'joined' type messages as a stark warning and only then go after accounts that post them. So basically go after the cause before the effects...
1782  Economy / Exchanges / Re: List of bitcoin debit cards on: July 13, 2018, 01:56:57 PM
We have ANONYMOUS Bitcoin VISA ATM cards. Shipping WORLDWIDE.
Do you have a bitcointalk thread? Who are the cards issued from?

They are from foreign bank with 100% private capital.
So Visa cannot stop it. At least all cards still working from December 2017 without problems.
If you want details better use tox 59564D2F49880684A9896385CFB1CD8A488D382C728906CED2126E2F746F9A6026EF4C85AFFC

Many plagiarized replies are sourced from sub-headings in this medium post. I guess Loyce could look into it as well to find more spamming accounts.
I tried a few, but didn't get any hits.

Did I phrase it wrong? I meant to say that in the list of questions of the medium article I posted above everything has been spammed in the forum.

Examples:
1. What is your competitive advantage?
2. Who will want to buy this coin?
3. Who is/are your competitors?

Another very popular phrase by spammers:
What will u do with unsold tokens?

It originates here probably:

https://medium.com/@petehumiston/50-questions-to-ask-when-evaluating-an-initial-coin-offering-ico-82d130501ee0

As well as many other canned questions.

What will happen to these accounts? I don't think banning them will solve these spam problems. With each passing today, these issues are getting worse. Just a concern forum member here, banning them won't solve these problems as they can create another account make such post all over again. Is there a way to delete these accounts because I am worried that it will just clog the forum.

Anyways, I agree with Silent26 that you deserve to become a Global Moderator. Smiley
Those accounts are clearly utilized to bump threads to bring them in the front page again. Removing bump-powers from members up to the Jr. rank would remove the incentive from that. New accounts would be able to respond but their responses just wouldn't bring threads to the top. Simple and effective. I've talked about doing this again, but I'm not sure if it could be programmed into the forum.
1786  Other / Meta / Re: Many Newbies posting the exact same message, Mod action required on: July 12, 2018, 07:53:17 AM
I don't want this to feel like I'm Hijacking LoyceV's thread but I had done some similar checking and was quite disappointed that the accounts I reported were not nuked. In fact, I see many of them still active today with the offending posts still up.

Collection of my reports here and here. If any mod could glance over the reports and give me their thoughts or even nuke the accounts it'd really motivate me to continue with this type of activity.

Edit: Also here.
1787  Other / Meta / Re: SPAMBOT hunting: report spambot promoted threads on: July 12, 2018, 07:38:25 AM
This bounty urges people to respond to the thread with just their username, which has resulted to quite some spam bumping and is against the rules: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4613036.0

Note following two responses by the same user for the same campaign, using different usernames each time. This hints fakeness.
The campaign manager is likely utilizing some automation to bump the thread with those low quality responses.

BTT is a place where people can say their oppinion about some project!
Tat why it was made for!
We ask our community to say something about us, and they LIKED us! It is not BOT service or something, it is just a PEOPLE!
Some of them is a newbi, some of them are membres for a long time ago!
So what is your problem ??
You are trying to stop people talk becouse of some of reason you  dont like us!
You do not have the right to prohibit people from talking.

FREEDOM is a FREEDOM!

Hello! We ask our community to leave a comment and their opinion about ROOMDAO. Is it forbiden ??

Quoted for reference.

It is forbidden to incentivize posts in your thread. Also known as ANN Shill bumping. It is considered as tagworthy by DT as well. Possibly the account(s) associated will also get banned from the forum.

Quote
Why you think its a problem?
Because you are creating fake buzz around our thread where people are coming to see it every second because it is being bumped in a shady manner. This is a good method to "Trick" investors into thinking that the project has a lot of potential while in reality it might not be so.
Yes, it is against the rules to incentive people directly post in any of your threads.
The important issue here however is that you're abusing the system. It's pretty obvious that you are using a service to spam your thread intentionally for the bumps and new views. Just stop. There's no way in hell all those are real organic posts.

Pay for regular advertising if you want exposure. Why exploit bitcointalk? This makes your ICO look real bad, why would anybody invest in a project using spam to advertise?
1794  Other / Meta / Re: SPAMBOT hunting: report spambot promoted threads on: June 23, 2018, 11:22:28 PM
I agree that threads with gross spam all over them should be locked, or even better outright deleted. In the event that the majority of pages consist of spam, it's highly likely that the project advertised in the OP has paid for spam-bumping.

This is interesting. I tried to talk a cafe owner into this once, in my case it didn't reach as far as with you.  Wink

Anyway, onto the technical aspect of your case... You could try running nicehash's executable as a service:

Hope this helps.

Oftentimes posted on the same threads. I think that when the same plagiarized spammy line gets posted on the same thread as a response over an over it's a pretty clear cut case of the OP utilizing spam-bumping services.

Look at those posts! They're switching words to avoid plagiarism checks by the first look but it's not hard to find them. More advanced algorithms can be of course developed for this but my google-fu skills can only help point out perpetrators to this level of obviousness. I'm actually suspicious that some bots are swapping certain placeholder words (as I reported here) with the project's name to make their replies have a more natural feel among all the spam. This looks automated either way, and happens faster than individual posts can be reported.

I'm reporting all those posts, hopefully mods will nuke the accounts also. I'll be providing a list of their profile links below.

This shit is everywhere, to the point where I blank it out when catching up, otherwise I end up reporting, not reading.
Back when I was a more trigger happy reporter, I think I single-handedly reduced a thread by about twelve pages of "word salad".

It would help if the Moderators nuked more of these accounts with post histories of complete nonsense (quite a number of them registered early June), especially when the report points out their overall lack of quality.
But they don't seem to, mostly only deleting the one post reported and leaving them to spam again, e.g. from the infamous Arbitao thread, I reported this user for two nonsense posts, with a request for nuking. The two posts are gone, but the shit poster's still live.

My thoughts exactly. Very well said, I actually agree with everything!

I have expressed in multiple threads that I think limitations should be put in place to prevent this abuse. ICOs and altcoins are trying to compete with each other to see who gets on the front all the time and it's getting really annoying. There's now a market for that offered as a service.

IMO a simple solution would be to:
a. Disallow accounts under Member rank from bumping. They will be able to respond but it shouldn't shoot threads at the top. This will stop new accounts without merit to push threads to the top. There could be exceptions for boards like beginners and help and other tech support sections.
b. For accounts below Member rank, introduce reCaptcha for each post. This would simply curb automation.

It would also be useful if mods were a little more trigger happy with nuking rather than painstakingly deleting posts one by one...
1800  Other / Meta / Re: List of Accounts which Needs a Ban [ICO pumping accounts] on: June 20, 2018, 02:15:09 AM
If you give admins posts in this format, they're likely to not do anything. You should try to make it easier for them to take an action quickly without having to navigate links. You don't really want them to open profiles and then check the posts.

Well, that's why I put links to profiles involved at the bottom along with threads they've posted the incriminating posts at.  What else could I do to improve the format? Genuine question!

FWIW, I feel like the purpose of this thread is to give a head's-up to the mods about a new form of violation/spamming, so that when we report such threads the mods are more likely to nuke the bastards rather than mark our report as bad (or simply not handle it).
The patterns have been noticed and there is a handful of them. But the accounts should also be pointed out, I think. Currently the report system only supports posts.
I saw mods nuking accounts mentioned in this thread so I thought I'd do my part.
