1881  Other / Meta / Re: Why is reference to "bitcointalk.org" triggering a filter in Wikipedia? on: May 10, 2018, 12:39:58 PM
Bitcointalk.org is banned WITHIN Wikipedia. If you try to add a link to the forum as reference when editing any article a message will pop-up saying it's banned. I'll add an image to the OP to make it more clear.
1882  Other / Meta / Why is reference to "bitcointalk.org" triggering a filter in Wikipedia? on: May 10, 2018, 10:41:09 AM
It seems as though bitcointalk is banned in wikipedia. Why is that?

It can't be added as a reference or otherwise linked. Edits with that won't go through.
Bitcointalk is a forum where significant announcements were made. Having it banned in wikipedia is quite unreasonable.

I believe that we should do something to change that. Anyone here with knowledge over how Wikipedia works that could provide advice on if there's something to be done?

1883  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What's going on with Bytecoin? A pump and dump SCAM? on: May 09, 2018, 05:55:12 PM
Can someone with coding skills check what the new update on bytecoin's code is really? They supposedly fixed the issued the network was failing and the release note of the update is:
Quote
Made early fixes to downloader to prevent long lagging behind.
From: https://github.com/bcndev/bytecoin/blob/master/ReleaseNotes.md Does this fix really address issues with the downloader and was it really this issue that caused the network to stall?

Now, isn't that fishy? How could a project like Bytecoin have overlooked a trivial issue such as the downloader? Did this effectively manage to shut down its entire network? How was the fix so swift? Makes me wonder if this was a planned incident.
1884  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Blowing the lid off the CryptoNote/Bytecoin scam (with the exception of Monero) on: May 09, 2018, 05:49:39 PM
This is worth re-taking a look to after today's debacle... BCN got into Binance, went a few time 10x up in price then all exchanged oddly disabled deposits... People were buying from poloniex and sending to Binance but to no avail... There's tons of people complaining of losing money and myriads of stuck transactions.

Makes me wonder if this was in insider job. Was there yet another backdoor in bytecoin's code that would allow to halt the network? Was this the last avail of developers to dump their coins?

I've made a thread to discuss this new incident here.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3678079.0

Maybe the 82% premine? Ya think?
How much of that do you think they've been able to dump?

I lost alot of respect for Binance when they listed this scamcoin.
There were huge volumes and one'd wonder where those coins were coming from when deposits were disabled. There's still a big difference in price between exchanges.

1886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / What's going on with Bytecoin? A pump and dump SCAM? on: May 09, 2018, 11:34:29 AM
Binance listed the coin and now they're blamed for causing a high network load.
All exchanges have closed Bytecoin deposits. The price went up more than 10x through the day but really, who's buying the coins? Most importantly, who's supplying the coinc to binance if deposits closed?

The development team is alleged of doing this intentionally. Is Bytecoin a scam? How could it be that all exchanged started facing issues with deposits at the same time? Could there be insider activity involved?

Edit: a new theory wants Bytecoin's developers involved with insider trading that might be connected to the 693 million bytecoins that were created through a bug. More here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Buttcoin/comments/8i5mw1/a_flaw_in_bytecoins_code_had_allowed_for_693/

A supposed fix has been released by bytecoin to address the network issues.

1889  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ANN][ICO][VIEWO] 🔥 VIDEO SHARING PLATFORM & INFLUENCERS 🔥 [PRE-SALE SOON] on: May 08, 2018, 11:36:16 AM

-:WHAT IS VIEWO:-

Viewo is a hybrid P2P video sharing network backed by over 150 influencers with millions of followers.  Viewo operates on a unique blockchain-based rewards system. All participants in the Viewo network are rewarded for their actions, big or small. Rewards come in the form of VEO Tokens, a block- chain-based utility token that has value in both the Viewo network and outside the Viewo network. Unlike current video sharing websites that operate on a self-serving basis, Viewo operates on a user-based approach, rewarding each individual user for actions completed and giving incentives to both viewers and content creators. Viewo is the only incentivized video sharing network that has the support and backing of a significant number of contemporary influencers.

-:WHY VIEWO:-

Viewo was born as an answer to the problems currently facing today’s video sharing industry. Whereas today’s industry ignores the needs and voices of participants, Viewo will reward every participant for actions they take, big or small. On a reward-driven platform, users will be motivated to share content, comment, and generally be more active watching content. This, in turn will increase the popularity of their rewards (VEO Tokens), which can be used to make in-site purchases. Additionally, Viewo has existing content agreements in place to use millions of the most popular videos on the Internet.

-:UNIQUE VIEWO TECHNOLOGY ALREADY IN PRODUCED:-

DEMO OF ALL TECHNOLOGIES COMING SOON
•   Specialized GPU hosting for delay free, “buffer-less” instant video playback; including live streaming events
•   Ability to encode videos on the fly allowing content to play immediately after upload; no more delays like on competitor websites
•   AI and Machine learning algorithms for visual and audio analysis in real time
•   Encoding of localized ads within the video stream; even if the video is “ripped” from the site, the ads will always remain in the video
•   Live streaming of events with no buffering or delays
•   Editing software utilizing AI technology to enable content producers to improve videos
•   Custom off-chain micropayment technology integrated with a web wallet

I contacted bone of this project's supposed partners.

The partnerships disllayied in this ICOs website are lies. Page archive here: http://archive.is/Q1BdY

I would like the Ico 'just to address this. The burden of proof to make it clear that their ICO is not a SCAM is upon them
1891  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ΑΝΝ] GARLICOIN - Reddit's Garlic Bread Worshiping Currency on: May 08, 2018, 12:40:10 AM
It's interesting how now there's a push to re-adopt scrypt-n.

I can see why some would reason in favor of that here.

But I remember that devs initially denied that ASICs could mine this coin. It's possible that they picked scrypt-n by mistake given that the coin was advertised as ASIC resistant on its release.
Either that of the devs knowingly released Garlicoin on an unexperienced audience knowingly putting the ASIC-broken scrypt-n as it's algo, potentially to benefit from such with their insider knowledge. And if that's the case, Allium, the new algo, is just damage control. It seems like development has been abandoned after that point anyway.
1892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] ENERGZINE - EV CHARGING STATIONS NOW 16000 ETH RAISED on: May 08, 2018, 12:07:39 AM
Is there proof of the "16000 ETH RAISED"? Saying that it was in a private sale is not acceptable proof.

Past ICO's have used such lie as a marketing tactic so immutable proof should be warranted.
1893  Economy / Exchanges / Re: List of bitcoin debit cards on: May 07, 2018, 05:49:28 PM
btc -> Virwox -> linden $ -> EUR -> Paypal

total fee big ?
Yup.

This is for market orders, i.e. selling at market price:

And there's a fee for PayPal withdrawal as well.
Quote
A handling fee of 1 EUR (1 USD, 1 CHF, 1 GBP) + 2% PayPal Fee per PayPal withdrawal will be charged.

Overall, very big fees.

100 EUR in BTC would go through the fee for BTC/SLL 3.9% -> 96.1
96.1 EUR in linden would go through the fee for SLL/EUR 2.9% -> 93.31
93.31 EUR would go through the PP withdrawal fee 1+2% ->

90.44 EUR
final sum.

1896  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Avoid auto-buy links, mainly locked or self moderated. Register before dealing on: May 06, 2018, 08:22:11 PM
What I dislike most about autobuy links on moderated threads is that they allow for sellers to have more leniency with illegal services.
Nobody can call them out and in this way their threads remain up for much longer.

For example:
Anyone offering giftcards with discounts greater than 5% is most definitely selling carded cards. This is highly illegal as it involves stealing other people's credit card information and is essentially money laundering. Those cards end up refunded, sometimes in the same day as well. So it's an activity that does no good to the world other than benefit the one that stole the credit card.

Perhaps e-giftcard selling should be entirely banned on this forum. That's my opinion, some might find it draconian though. However, there's no way to tell legit from fake when it comes to e-giftcards and it'd be too resource intensive for mods to moderate every thread so a total ban makes sense to me.

Also: cracked accounts go for sale

All those accounts on subscription based services that go for sale for a fraction of their monthly subscription are obviously hacked into. They stay active for however long the original owner doesn't notice that someone else is in their account. But that process involves hacking and naturally, breach of personal information.
1897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DATx ICO @Official Admin SCAMs 413 ETH on: May 06, 2018, 07:57:42 PM
This is a tough situation. If the ICO had indeed paid for a community manager you'd expect that they'd trust him to manage the group without them paying attention.

That, though, does not mean that they're free of responsibility for their employee. The fact that he was allowed to do this means zero oversight. ICOs trust freelancers with little to no work to showcase with positions of power and this is what happens.

People should be more cautious, on both sides. At least I hope that DATx has the ID of the perpetrator so as to help in a police report. Otherwise I would also put part of the blame with them.

sorumluluk datx de.
ama sorumluluk kabul etmiyorlar.
singapurda kendileri.
arkadaşa polise git diyorlarda elinde delil olamdan nasıl gitsin.
datx parayı alanı tanımasa adamı niye admin yapsınlar.
peki arkadaş nasıl şikayetçi olacak?
parayı alan adamı datx tanıyor.
ve datx bilgi vermekten kaçıyor.

----------

the responsibility is datx.
but they do not accept responsibility.
singapurda themselves.
How do you go when you tell the friend you go to the police when you have evidence.
If the datx money field is not recognized, why do they do admin?
How will my friend be complaining?
The guy who gets the money knows the datx.
and datx escapes from giving information.
You mean that DATx is not willing to cooperate with providing the information of that admin?
In that case, I would agree with you.

1899  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-SALE][ICO] Petro $PTR - Oil backed crypto currency launched by Venezuela on: May 05, 2018, 10:32:35 PM
Is there any way to acquire proof of what the Petro has raised? I wouldn't trust Maduro.
No. And as long as Maduro and his combo are in power there won't be one.

Given that it's an ICO, are we to assume that all those investors invested through the TGE?
We don't know. Maduro claims that 3.338 billions of dollars were collected through the presale. He pointed out that these were the result of negotiations with big companies and investors. What exactly were the terms of agreement of such negotiations (and whether they really exist) is not publicly known. Take for example the "transactions to import worth 1.738 billion dollars", which according to Maduro are part of those 3.338 billions collected. These might be just promises to deliver goods in some future and accept then petros (possibly with a discount).
I see! Thanks for the insightful response. Apparently elections in Venezuela are nearing. So what we're hearing from western media (that are casually biased against Venezuela) is that Maduro's efforts might be tricks to sway the electorate. Whether or not that might be true, I don't know. It's quite weird because a few months earlier the same media was portraying Maduro's referendum as a plan to dictatorship. Why would he worry about elections if he was a dictator? I don't support Maduro but this is just sounding inconsistent.

But honestly, Maduro's moves seem very weird. I've also heard that in the event of another party being elected, all plans for petro could be scrapped.
