So, France's Finance Minister, Bruno Le Maire has commented that Libra threatens the "monetary soverignity" of Governments and would not authorise the development of the Libra Project.

1143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and recession on: September 11, 2019, 02:52:15 PM
In the blowing air of recession, people are finding a way out to secure their investment and many are reaching towards Bitcoin as a savior, so what you think?

Normally, volatile assets are avoided during a recession. As you can see Bitcoin is also a volatile asset, so I don't think that Bitcoin will attract new investors as some have suggested. However, I agree with Jet Cash that Bitcoin is a non-correlated asset and having a non-correlated asset to your portfolio is good.

Does Bitcoin survive?

Of course, it will.

So it's not as bad as you think....  Wink

An asset that has a 10% guaranteed loss every year then.....

Nope.

I take it you don't own a car  Wink

Luxury is a state of mind, but to most, a bicycle/car is a necessity but a yacht is a luxury. So, I wouldn't compare a yacht with a car  Smiley
1145  Local / India / Re: What is the actual state of crypto currency in India? on: September 11, 2019, 12:19:53 PM
I read that RBI claims that bitcoin were used for money laundering in India that is why they want to ban but still Supreme court has go to say its decision about. But banks are responsible for hacked accounts and most importantly the original owners since they are in control of their accounts right?

You can check this thread for more clarity -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5155099.0. I don't understand Hindi, so I don't know what exactly is told in the video.

So what I personally think is that Banks can freeze your accounts, if they think that you are dealing with cryptocurrencies as RBI has implemented a ban. This could be caused by mistakenly adding a crypto-related remark while making the transaction like "For BTC" "Buying 1 ETH" etc. But I don't think that FIR complaints could be launched based on such activity. However, the Govt freezes/monitor bank accounts which they think are financing terrorism and money laundering of illicit funds, so if you get funds from any of such marked accounts, you might face an account freeze and FIR complaint lodged against you.
1146  Local / India / Re: What is the actual state of crypto currency in India? on: September 11, 2019, 06:27:17 AM
As far as I know its neither banned not illegal to use as well but RBI banned it so what will be the result if someone uses banks to trade the crypto currencies on p2p sites like localbitcoin.

Almost all purchase and selling of cryptocurrencies involving INR is done by p2p trading. So, apart from the recent risk related to FIRs being filed & freezing of bank accounts of the traders as money were sent from hacked bank accounts, there is not much of a problem.

Am really happy for Rashid Khan and his team. Luck favored them at last and they decimated Bangladesh which is easily a huge upset in recent times. I thought Shakib could drag the game, but he got out pretty quickly.

A combined total of 11 wickets for Rashid Khan which is simply splendid and it is good to see him back in form. Bangladesh continues to under-perform.

I wouldn't say that Luck favoured them, they won because of their exemplary performance. Afghans would have finished the game on the 4th day itself, if the rain didn't interrupt the match. They have fought against all odds and have finally achieved a massive victory.
They have made few records by winning this match.

Quote from: cricbuzz.com
STATZONE:
>>Rashid Khan is the youngest captain in the history of Test cricket to record a maiden win in the format.
>>The Afghanistan skipper is also the first player to record a fifty and 10-plus wickets in his debut game as captain in Test cricket
>> Bangladesh become the first team to lose a Test against 10 different nations

Number of games to record 2 Test wins
3 Australia
3 Afghanistan**
4 England
9 Pakistan
12 West Indies
13 South Africa
20 Sri Lanka
30 India
31 Zimbabwe
55 New Zealand
60 Bangladesh

1148  Local / India / Re: New Committee Report favouring Digital Currencies and tokens on: September 09, 2019, 05:41:29 AM
They only favor blockchain technology and even Jio will be adopting it but they will never regulate bitcoins (atleast for next 5 years) as they basically aren't interested in innovation. I still don't see them positively talking about it and it's just that the RBI was made to explain why it should be banned and RBI already have an excuse (crypto and money laundering excuses). They are only interested in taxes, taxes and taxes.

The green highlighted part in my post above shows shows they acknowledge that digital tokens are better than Fiat Currencies and they are talking about regularising the tokens / coins based on their characteristics. Don't you think that something positive in the current considering the previous report which advised a ban?

It depends on how you drop the nut. Grin

I think someone already clarified that it was related to BTC, a primary telecommunications provider for the Bahamas and the recent hurricane, Dorian.

Edit: Got it. It was vroom.

I have an update on the google trends search spike. It's noticeable that only the search term BTC is spiking but not bitcoin. The region with the most searches is Bahamas, a victim of the hurricane Dorian. BTC stands for Bahamas Telecommunications Company. mystery solved I think.

~skip~

Well.. let me make the calculations. 66 overs remaining for today. Let's assume that the England last wicket partnership survives for another 6 overs and the lead is 180 runs. That means 60 overs left for today. Let's assume Australia scores at a rate of 4 runs per over. In order to get a target of 380 runs, they need to score another 200 runs in 50 overs. That means England needs to face Starc & Co. for 10 overs today and 90 overs tomorrow. And I don't think that they have the capability to survive for 100 overs against Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins.

Hmm... Interesting stats. ENG is all out for 301. So AUS managed to get a lead of 196 runs. Let's see how this game turns out to be. Whether it is going to be AUS winning or draw? Who knows maybe ENG will surprise us after all  Huh
1152  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 07, 2019, 01:10:00 PM
The good thing for England is that they have managed to avoid the follow on... They just need 15 more runs, with two wickets in hand. IMO, Australia may end up with a lead of around 150 runs and then they will try to add another 200 runs in the second innings by the end of the day today. England might need 350+ to win, and unless some miracle happens (and some help from the umpires) it is going to be 2-1 for Australia.

A miracle has to happen for Australia to win this match if England manages to avoid the follow-on. They only need 6 more runs to avoid a follow-on with only 1 wicket in hand. Keep in mind there is only 6 sessions left. Even if AUS manage to get a mammoth lead, ENG will make sure to play the full day tomorrow. So, the chance for AUS to win is to take a wicket now before they score another 6 runs or show some miraculous bowling display tomorrow.

Edit: ENG got past 300 and there will be no follow-on. So this game is more of a draw.

So in the 3rd day of the BAN vs AFG Match, Rashid and Nabi wrapped BAN for 205 and I was like, "Oooh the Afghans have a good lead of 137 runs and if they play consistently as in the 1st innings, they are gonna win this match" and all of a sudden they lose 2 wickets in just 4 balls. Things look bleak now, not sure if AFG would be able to beat BAN.

England 200/5 - Not looking good for them, I guess with only 2 more days of play it might be a draw.
Yeah from 166/2 they suddenly collapsed to 200/5 thanks to Hazelwood. Burns and Root did a good job consuming lots of time so that the match is drawn. Now Eng is trailing by 297 runs has to be keen on avoiding the follow on by scoring another 98 runs with only 5 wickets remaining. Which I think they'll manage to get with Stokes, Bairstow & Butler. I believe that ENG will continue to consume more time tommorow just to ensure a draw. There is no hope for ENG winning this match. A draw seems likely.
