Very surprising that you guys are criticizing his decision. Australians have always put their team interests above any individual targets. And his decision was proved right. It gave the Australian bowlers 10 overs against the English batsmen, and they were able to get the wicket of Joe Denly. Statistically, it was just one wicket. But in the end it is going to put England in a lot of pressure. Therefore I would say that it was one of the most courageous decisions ever made by Tim Paine as the captain.

~skip~
This is a good batting pitch comparing the earlier pitches played in the series. Do you think that Aussies can enforce a follow-on with a score below 500? I don't think English team would crash like that. I am sure that they'll get past 350 in the first innings. Anything below that would be a result of poor batting display. When Paine declared, Starc and Lyon were in great form and would have easily taken the score to 550-580 in the remaining 10 overs. If either one of them were dismissed, then Paine could have declared. As far as Denly's wicket is concerned, he sacrificed his wicket by changing the batting lineup and giving an opportunity for Roy. In all the previous matches of this series, the openers were struggling with the new ball and the opening partnership didn't get past 25 runs in any. As far as my opinion goes, AUS should have batted the remaining overs aggressively if they didn't lose wickets it would have done a lot of good to them. You could have still taken a wicket the next day.
I don't say that Paine's decision was stupid but they would have had a better chance for winning this match now it looks like more of a draw to me or English winning miraculously like the previous match.

BTW, just checked the AFG vs BAN match. AFG had scored a good 342. Looks like Tamin's replacement Shadman got out for a duck and the BAN are struggling at 5/1.

But if you can highlight the page numbers talking about cryptos, we would love that!
~skip~
You can read through the pages 14-21 of the report.

However, I will make a brief gist on the points made in the report related to blockchain and cryptocurrencies below -
  • Distributed Ledger Technology(DLT) has been considered as a revolutionary emerging technology which offers agility, efficiency and accuracy.
  • Blockchain Technology has the potential to improve KYC and AML systems, increase standardization and updation of KYC information, and reduce the costs of completing and maintaining KYC information.
  • DLT has potential applications beyond the realm of cryptocurrencies and is being explored to facilitate tamper-proof, decentralized records of flow of commodities and assets across a supply chain, digital identity systems and cross-border payments/remittances.
  • Blockchain solution in cross-border payments will include the following features
    • Exclusion of intermediaries
    • No need for central banks to ensure intraday liquidity
    • Elimination of data modification to maintain an immutable audit trail
    • Will address data protection and privacy concerns
    • Immediate updation of transaction trail.
  • Use of digital tokens resolve the issue of multiple currencies, improves liquidity and capital compliance costs, allows for micro-payments and expedites the payment process, which further eliminates liquidity risks.
  • In settlement of securities, blockchain will help avoid intermediaries, trace immutable securities records and transactions, provide a transparent ledger of transactions and automated servicing of securities to parties,
  • In Trade Finance, Blockchain avoids falsified receivables and multiple invoices secured against the same collateral due to its transparency and security.
  • The regulation of coins or tokens depend on the characteristics and the purpose for which they are being issued. Depending on the objective of issue, tokens can be grouped into two categories:
    • Utility tokens: Utility tokens entitle future access to a company’s product or service. These utility tokens can be understood as digital coupons for the service it is developing
    • Security tokens:  Some issuance of digital tokens has the attribute of a security (Referencing the US SEC vs Howey Guidelines) ie. Digital tokens are treated as security when -  there is an investment of money, there is an expectation of profits, the investment of money is in a common enterprise & Any profit comes from the efforts of a promoter or third party.

When everything was going fine and everybody was looking for a 500+ score, Paine decided to declare at 497/8

Edit: England has scored 23/1 by the end of the day losing only Denly.

Don't you think that its over-exaggerated Tongue Smith deserves all the respect for his wonderful knock in this match no doubt in that but haven't you seen the Cricket Legends?

Anyways Aussies were like 400 a few minutes back, now the tail-enders have got the score to 475. Suddenly, the test match has changed to a T20 match. Now 500 is only a few overs away. What an innings from Mitchell Starc  Shocked Well played
1166  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 05, 2019, 04:42:09 PM
Its easy double century for Smith now but 500 seems pretty difficult since non-regular batsman are the only ones left to partner with Smith in this innings. I love the way Smith have leaded Australia so far in the Ashes. I don't know about others but I really hope Smith regains back his captaincy role once again. Yes he did mistake but hey everyone does it.

Mitchell Starc has gone berserk against Broad hitting 4 back-to-back boundaries in an over. 500 seems gettable at this point.

Edit: Smith is gone for 211(319 balls) to Joe Root Undecided  Maybe Aus won't reach 500 afterall.
1167  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 05, 2019, 02:29:23 PM
So Smith-Paine duo has crossed 100 runs partnership and are in good form. Earlier, it looked like both teams were in control. But post Lunch, things have changed and AUS looks dominating and are scoring at a faster rate. Considering that this is a batting pitch and the duos form, 450+ runs seems reasonable. And I don't believe that Eng will go down without a fight. So this match is more of a draw to me.

1169  Local / India / New Committee Report favouring Digital Currencies and tokens on: September 05, 2019, 10:40:14 AM
A new committee report has been released by the Indian Finance Ministry and it seems to be favouring Cryptocurrencies.
You can find the report here - https://dea.gov.in/sites/default/files/Report%20of%20the%20Steering%20Committee%20on%20Fintech.pdf
Edit: You can read through the pages 14-21 of the report.

Looks like all the recent news regarding Crypto in India is throwing light on a positive regulation. What do you guys think?

What the heck is wrong with you betters @CryptoSonicXI & @Tothemoonimus to bet higher than the starting bet when there is no contestors? Buying a forum account is stupid and bidding higher than the start bid is even more stupid.
1171  Other / Meta / Re: Heisenberg's Merit Source Application for the Indian Board on: September 04, 2019, 06:01:18 AM
Mod of Indian sub-forum? LOL... The board doesn't even need a MOD IMO. The reports are being handled at a regular rate. The board is completely out of control and there is only a handful of good discussions taking place. The board was once controlled by spammers, shitposters, translation abusers who were running the board right after Benson left the forum. The old timers have left and I am pretty much sure none of them are even interested in the board after all. It would be better, if theymos close the board completely. If there was to be an appointment for a MOD, I would stand for krishnapramod, Eality, amishmanish and newIndia. All 4 have really good report count AFAIK.

I thought you were applying to become a merit source for the Indian Board from the topic of the thread. I supported you earlier because I thought that you were doing some improvements to the Indian Board. If you want to see the Indian Board closed better close this topic. What's the point on becoming a merit source for a board you are recommending to close? However, if you want to become a merit source for yourself. Better change the topic as "Heisenberg's Merit Source Application" don't include the Indian Board into it.

Apart from the above, I think you are a valuable member of the forum.

Wondering why am I offering this service? The thing is I signed up for Ledger affiliates a long time ago and shared my referral link here and there online. Since it wasn't fruitful, I completely ignored it and started focusing on other things in life. So when I accidentally checked my affiliate page today I saw two purchases made dated 2017 and that I have 26.10 € (~2000 INR), I still need ~23.90 € to validate my account and get paid.

So I'm risking 2000 INR out of my pocket to get my hands on the commissions earned. This is a 50-50 gamble on my side but its pure profit for the purchaser  Tongue

If you have any doubts/concerns do comment below. I am open to constructive discussions.

1173  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 02, 2019, 03:50:30 AM
I think now days most captains are scared to enforce the follow-on after what happened to Australia when they enforced the follow-on against India and then India dominated the Australian bowlers and ended up winning the match. Since then there hasn't been many follow-on enforced by teams as they never know if the team following on bats well. We have seen in the past that teams chasing anything near 500 runs is almost impossible to win the match which is also why most captains decide to bat again.

That match between AUS and IND was an exceptional case, just like the last test match between AUS vs ENG, almost nobody thought that ENG would win that match yet they managed to win. Any team with right mind should enforce follow-on, unless there are external factors of concern like weather, pitch deterioration etc. Enforcing a follow-on will put immense pressure on the opponent, whose batting morale will be low considering that they didn't score much in the 1st innings.  But if you give them a chance to bowl, the morale might increase if they were able to restrict them to a meagre score. And defeating a team with lesser morale is easier than a team boosting in confidence.
1174  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 01, 2019, 04:43:55 PM
I pray for a batting disaster :-P

India all out under 79 runs
Target for WI is 378 runs to win. WI lost their 8th wicket to manage 278 runs but Roach played a phenomenal innings and WI won the match by only one wicket.

How about that? :-D

Yeah, I would definitely love that Cheesy I will pray for a draw atleast. Stupid decisions like this have to be taught a lesson.

1176  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 01, 2019, 03:24:34 AM
The second day of the match was completely dominated by the Indians. Vihari and Ishant dominated the first 2 sessions with some sensational batting even Holder who did some damage on the first day was not able to do much on the second day. Bumrah completely destroyed the Windies in the last sessions with his exceptional bowling display scalping 6 wkts for 16 runs. This has given a overall advantage for the Indians to win by an innings and a few runs.

Currently Windies are at 87/7 trailing by 300+ runs with 3 days remaining. So if they are looking for a draw, they'll have to follow on (no doubt there) and will have bat for 2+ days without losing much wickets and getting past 500 runs. But this seems very unlikely and the Indians are not going to let this match out of there hands and will look to finish the series as 2-0
1177  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Provably fair: purpose of client seed? on: August 30, 2019, 06:07:04 PM
You could get a clear idea on how provably fair works in a dicesite from here

How does provably fair work?
Although there are several implementations of the provably fair method, we will describe the most common one. With this method each roll-result is calculated by the following variables:

Serverseed - provided by the gambling site
Clientseed - provided by your browser and adjusted by you
Nonce - A number that increases with each bet you make
You will get an encrypted hash of the serverseed  before you start gambling. Since you get it in advance, the site cannot change it later. However it is encrypted, so you cannot calculate your own roll results in advance (only afterwards if you get the unhashed serverseed.)

Your browser will generate a random clientseed. However, you could and should adjust this clientseed before you start. This way you can make sure the site does not know your clientseed in advance.

Now if you make a bet the nonce starts with 0 or 1 depending on the website. After each bet you make, the nonce number will go up by 1.

So coming to your question regarding the purpose of Client Seed, let's assume that there is no client seed but only server seed and nounce taken for output calculation. You play several rounds and lose heavily so you change the client seed, once again you lose without any profits. If that's the case, what will you tell others? You'll most probably tell that site only gives bad seeds and that they are programmed to incur hefty losses or that the site is scam.
But by providing client seed(which could be adjusted by you) you are deciding the server seed's outcome not the gambling site. The server seeds outcome varies with the client seeds you use. So you can't actually blame the site being unfair to you.
To sum it up, Client seeds are made available to show that the site is being fair or say to build users trust.

1179  Other / Meta / Re: Merit awarding as an alternative to posting. on: August 30, 2019, 09:44:32 AM
I was discussing the awarding of merits with another member recently, and he made me aware that we have both started to award merits as an alternative to posting a reply in a thread. If you agree with a poster, but don't have much to add to the point he has made, do you think it is good practice to award merits without quoting and posting an agreement? It will certainly keep the thread cleaner and easier to read, but it may be difficult for those seeking to build a post count to restrain themselves.

The idea seems to be great for merit sources but what about those (like me) who don't have enough merits (i have 7smerits atm)  to give it to each and every post they agree upon and don't have anything to add? I think it's not practical for everyone. As mentioned earlier a "like" button would do the job. But merit, it has to be given to deserving posts.

Edit: Didn't see dkbit98's last post before posting :/ More like same thoughts.
