official Spreadcoin

Stop trolling the community. Spreadcoin is an open source project, in the context of which the term “official” is semantically vacuous.

Cheers

Graham

I agree that this is about open source, and as I said, as soon as I have a beta version of the spreadwallet ready I will open source everything.
You have a problem with that?  Cool
122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: February 12, 2017, 10:15:46 AM
..., including funding devs like Georgem - who knows, might even be a way to contribute to the Patreon thing.

Dev funding through Patreon (and donations) already works fine and better than I ever expected.
So I don't think that additional schemes are necessary, and I think you know my opinion about ICOs.
I just need more patrons.
You interested? I am releasing the next update to my patrons later today.

I've been thinking, maybe it's worth considering creating a SpreadClassic fork of some sorts.

Go ahead, why hasn't this been done yet? You can even base it on mr.spread's abandoned masternode implementation.

And the funny thing is, we can then run both forks side by side within the spreadwallet.

But don't call it SpreadcoinClassic, because official Spreadcoin is already as classic as it gets.  Grin
123  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Developing a Wallet? on: February 08, 2017, 09:26:21 PM
First of all it would be nice to know what the wallet is, that you want to make.

For my experience, the word wallet as referred to bitcoin, has at least two different meaning:
...

Since most people use their real world wallet not just for money but also ID-cards, important phone numbers, organ donor card, photos of their loved ones, grocery lists, and what not,
it should be easy for them to grasp that a "wallet" is actually much more than just a "cash box".

Wallet as in "container for important stuff that is NOT meant for the public".

As a developer you are allowed to play with the definition of this word and stretch it as far as you like as long as this basic meaning isn't lost, I guess....

IMHO it is confusing and wrong to include a full node daemon within this definition of "wallet".
A node of any kind is NOT a wallet.

But, wallets need to communicate with nodes to be able to have access to the blockchain.
And the farther away your wallet is from actual nodes the more bad things could happen along the way,
therefor it's a good solution to fuse wallet/node in a single program.
124  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Developing a Wallet? on: February 08, 2017, 03:44:07 PM
The wallet's screen display is very nice. Also supporting multiple coins is a complete innovation. As far as I know, wallets only support their own coins. You have brought an innovation with this wallet you have made.

My recommendation is that you continue to develop the project on github. If you get it in community support, you will be done quickly.

Good Luck

Thanks, ...

As soon as I have the basic architecture/functionality finished and a beta version ready I will release the source on github.
After beta version is done I not only want to but also REQUIRE that other people take a look at the code.

Right now to bring in more people would only add chaos, since I have a pretty solid vision, and a very tight agenda,
but I am currently investing 1 day a week working on that wallet, so steady progress is happening.

Looking forward to the public release...

In the meantime, if you want to support me to achieve beta-status, I am already sending out closed-source preview-versions every weekend to my patrons:

https://www.patreon.com/hamsterinthemachine

Thanks!

Hey Georgem,

I noticed that I didn't receive a preview version. Would there be any chance I could see it?

Thanks!

Show me your ongoing support and I will put you back in my patron-list quicker than you can say "fud".

Thanks!

Just trying to get my head around what would attract somebody to choose Spreadwallet over an alternative.

BTW, what alternative were you thinking about here?  Tongue
127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: February 06, 2017, 09:34:14 AM
I've never watched a project run by a developer who has no concern about the user's feelings and expectations...

Imagine the outcry if Peter Wuille or Gregory Maxwell based their decisions on some PR-Investors "feewings"....
You really just don't get it, do you?  Grin

If I run a bakery selling bread, and some guy comes in and demands vegetables, and then starts fudding because his "feewings" are hurt...
... why would I be concerned about this guy's expectations?
I want to bake the best bread in the world and make my customers happy.

So why would I care about centralized blockexplorers when I am selling decentralized solutions?
128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: February 06, 2017, 06:34:24 AM
I don't want to guess what attracts/motivates people,
I want to "decentralize everything",
which in turn will attract/motivate people who believe in decentralization.

(decentralize everything - you even have it written under your avatar, but why again?)

We shouldn't care about what people think who give a crap about decentralization.
Why should we base our decisions on their feelings and expectations?

BTW, the blockexplorer is just one section within the spreadwallet.

More to come soon... I will need to clean up the forum/website/threads to better explain the spreadwallet/spreadcoin and more.
129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: February 05, 2017, 05:03:28 PM
BTW, looking to buy some hardware again.

I placed 11850 SPR at 2000 Satoshis,
I want to revamp my MacBook Pro with 8Gbyte and an SSD (It currently only has 2Gbytes and a small 100 GByte SATA),
and also buy a 2-port KVM switch so that I can integrate my macbook through displayport into my main screen/mouse/keyboard setup.
After that, there might even be enough left for yet another Raspberry Pi,  Cool

Thanks everybody.

Yep, we are definitely "not in Kansas anymore", lol...  Wink

132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: February 05, 2017, 03:01:58 PM
@Patrons

BTW, good sources for bitcoin nodes are

https://bitnodes.21.co/nodes/

and for litecoin:

https://bitinfocharts.com/litecoin/nodes-active/

For spreadcoin use my full node:

SPR:5.35.253.206

or your own, as you like.

I suggest you connect to your local full nodes only, since we don't want to "annoy" other people's full nodes too much as long as the spreadwallet is still in development...  Cool
But be your own judge.

The spreadwallet is now publicly presenting itself as /SpreadWallet:0.0.1/ so other nodes will know who they are talking with.  Wink

Looking forward to my patreons posting a few screenshots of the preview-wallet.

More to come soon.

Linux and Mac preview versions will be ready soon.

Stay tuned.

I'm still working on this if you haven't noticed, just without PR-Investors breathing down my neck or writing the whitepapers for me.   Cool

BTW, if some people have a problem understanding what makes a crypto a scam,
I suggest you watch this video here.

It features Tone Vays and Chris DeRose and should be mandatory viewing for all crypto users.  Grin

I'm skeptical of the idea, ...

Could you address this guy? He's practically asking the same question I asked about the wallet working in a live environment.
Stop hitting soft balls around   Roll Eyes

This cinogrin-guy sounds like the perfectly "groomed" and prepared sockpuppet.
All this special "knowledge" about coding and what was going on here in the past months...
not suspicious at all.  Grin
138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: January 26, 2017, 07:50:30 PM
Holy mother.

2017 is off to a good start, I can't believe this!

Lord Kek has truly blessed spreadcoin!

I can't express how thankful I am for all the support that I am already getting.

What a joy.

Please read this todo-list (1-5) that I made back in dec 10th, it still pretty much represents what next steps I will take:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1045373.msg17139447#msg17139447

Thanks everybody!
139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: January 26, 2017, 07:10:36 AM
Decentralisation is the key ingredient for crypto, and I actually agree that a patronage funding mode for experimental work is in some ways better than an investment based one. Both are still based on an exchange taking place, but with patronage both parties remain free to widen their definition of success to include much more than ROI, whereas with investments both parties are locked in to expectations of financial return only, so true creativity is stifled. You can clearly see this in art, modern music labels and film studios tend to be investment based, and results suffer, a guy investing 10M USD in a movie these days will go for a bog standard high budget super hero bl8ckbuster because it's almost certain to make a profit, but the end product is usually not great art that stretches the boundaries, whereas a good explanation for the quality of Renaissance art is the funding was heavily biased towards patronage. For crypto I think we're seeing the results of 2 years of the investment model at work, and there's been a load of crappy ico's launched that have the cutting edge qualities of Spiderman 5, or Iron Man 6, so while many might make a return, they're not likely to crack the big problems, like how to scale networks without waste using incentive structures that maintain true decentralisation.

Thank you, this is the most reasonable comment I have seen in this thread this whole week.

I updated the goals and reward section on my patreon page:

https://www.patreon.com/hamsterinthemachine

It will serve as a guideline for how I reward my patrons and how your support will help me achieve the first goal that I am focusing on. (500$ a month)

I will add more rewards and more goals as we move forward. Let's keep it simple for now, and see how this goes.

If you want to support me with fiat money do it through patreon directly.
If you want to send me BTC or SPR please use the donation addresses in my signature. (I will count the $-value of your donation to the current month)

If you want to support spreadcoin in other ways, tell me about it, and I just might give you something of equal value back.  Wink

Thanks everybody for your support.
