P.S Does anybody know how on earth BBCode tables work?!
they don't work like html tables, since you are not allowed to define widths (neither in percentages nor pixels)... so they will always look weird.

Do you guys still work on the proof-of-bitcoin-nodes? I haven't followed the topic for a while.
Yes, PoBN is priority nr 1.

Verification of full node statusIn case y’all ain’t already seen it, last November S.D. Lerner posted Proof of unique blockchain storage, in which he proposes a solution for the issue: “Can a user verify if peers have a distinct copy of the blockchain and that that copy is intact?” Cheers Graham You always find the best links and papers, thanks!

Heya spreaders!
I've been following the coin in and out over the year, because I'm very pro decentralization.
I can't get a firm handle on what is going on with spreadcoin. For instance, proof of bitcoin node? I can't find details of that on the OP, and my cursory search of your website indicates that its talked about there... I might need to dig into it more. if you have some links, that'd be great. Trust me, I understand that time is limited and some things just take a while (I'm in the monero community....)
You are right. ATM we are working on a better more structured website, so we can list all the necessary informations. So that everybody can find the most recent destillations of the ongoing discussions. I don't think that the OP is the right place for all this, we will only post in the OP what has been accomplished, not "what is going on". That belongs to the roadmap/website/forum. Additionally, are you guys still considering masternodes (servicenodes?). I was hoping this wouldn't be the case.
Yes, servicenodes will be an integral part of spreadcoin. And in general, how goes the fight for true decentralization?
True decentralization demands very well thought out solutions. This takes time. Stay tuned, lots of stuff happening in the background.

exactly the tool I need right now. Thanks!
|
|
|
If we could all work full time on this then I'm confident that we've got the necessary skills and experience to deliver PoBN and do it well.
I agree. So our first goal should be to bring on this confidence and change our situation so that we can make this happen. Stay tuned.

I very liked idea of Spread, well I decided go to dowload of wallet for start this journey.
But my wallet not working, in wallet says - No block source available - and - 0 active connections to SpreadCoin network ... I use Windows 7 pro x64
I very wish use Spread, but my wallet not work.
Here you go with the most recent windows wallets: New preview wallet that will always find a block source within 20 sec and has all the recent bug fixes: http://www.spreadcoin.info/downloads/preview_wallet_1.zipOr if you choose to use the old wallet, I updated that too (so that it always finds a block source): http://www.spreadcoin.info/downloads/SpreadCoin32.zipI will create builds for mac / linux later.

Hi everybody, Sorry my bad english. I very liked idea of Spread, well I decided go to dowload of wallet for start this journey. But my wallet not working, in wallet says - No block source available - and - 0 active connections to SpreadCoin network I researched in the forum, but not found any answer to help me. I try dowload a link official of site http://spreadcoin.info/downloads.php , and a link indicated by Georgem https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1045373.msg11262666#msg11262666I downloaded and executed, but, does not work, same problem, say - No block source available - and - 0 active connections to SpreadCoin network How to solved my problem? I use Windows 7 pro x64 I very wish use Spread, but my wallet not work. One moment please, I will prepare new wallets, will have them finished in 1-2 hours.

Awesome! Are you working on implementing that into the wallet?
Not at the moment, but it's part of my plan to even put a GPU miner inside the wallet. (current CPU miner is a joke, just a relic from the past, maybe useful for testnet wallet versions)
|
|
|
So could someone make a GPU miner and "cheat" to win? If so, then I guess we need to make one first so everyone has a fair chance. Yes, that would be possible without problem. The VanityGen inside the spread-wallet is 100% based on the original vangen (by samr7): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0I had to tweak and change quite a few things to make it work within the wallet and with SPR addresses, but it should be very easy for even a beginner to create a standalone GPU vangen for SPR. And it should be quite rewarding: on an AMD 8-core 4Ghz I get about 1.2 M Keys/s, And an example for GPU, based on the calculation formulas mentioned here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0an AMD HD 6970 with 1536 Stream Processors and 880 MHz, should be able to hash about 18 M Keys/s, ... so on average a GPU should work 10-20 times better than CPU, maybe even twice that.

Is it bad that this video makes me think of my liver? Funny you should say that.... I had the sudden urge to go to the bathroom after watching the video. It's like it stimulated the release valve of my bladder. It happens sometimes when I watch liquifying things...

Don't all shot me at once: Any chance of dropping the 'coin' in Spreadcoin? Please, please discuss. 10 SPR to everyone that agrees with me, vocally Absolutely, I've been thinking about shortening the name to spread since mr. spread left. Well, it's very difficult to find any domainname that is spread only, but we can still just call it spread. We can think about maybe calling the currency unit itself spread instead of spreadcoin. e.g. "How many spread does this sandwhich cost, spread101?" "Damn, I am out of spread!" "Wow, someone just gave me 1000 spread, just like that..." etc

Proof of Bitcoin Node (PoBN) needs to have some way to allow people to run the version of Bitcoin core they want to run - imo
Georgem mentioned this as a question and a few other related issues, a day or two ago.
It was a brief passing comment - but it only really hit me yesterday how big of an issue this is.
Yeah, in no way can we force people to download and run a certain bitcoin version. This would take away all their "voting power" and would be a horrible centralization we impose on the community. So the "proof" that a servicenode runs a bitcoin node must basically allow a fork to happen, if it has to come to that. So checking that the a bitcoin node is installed (and is constantly running) must happen not by crosschecking it with some master-bitcoinnode, but differently.

Asking what kind of government I want, is like asking me in what exact way I like to get rapped. (bent over, from behind or in your face? Please choose)
The key thing to understand here is that nobody here was ever involved in the creation of any government. Governments are never created by the people! You were just born into a system whose rules you are expected to follow... OR ELSE! (Kinda like people are just belonging to a certain religion, because their parents also belonged to that same religion, and their grandparents etc etc, was there ever a voluntary decision?)
Government is never voluntary. There was never a contract between you and THEM!
So asking what government I want is like asking me what slavemaster I would like.
None ofcourse.
Can a government exist that leaves me alone and that I can just choose to not interact with?
No, they are all infringing, extorting, abusing systems of power that will never give you any real choice.
The only choice you ever get is: comply OR ELSE.
But this is not a choice at all.
People tend to forget the nature of government and they still believe in the absolute necessity of it. (without it there can only be chaos you see. That's what they tell you...) They don't see it as the evergrowing cancer that will one day kill the host if we let it.
We have a long way to go, and cryptocurrencies will help...
Decentralize everything is the only solution.

No matter who of the devs is right or wrong, this needs to be discussed openly, so the monopoly some admins have over all the important forums and the censorship we have seen is quite scary.
When threads become threats then something is wrong.

One day I might deserve that honor, but not yet, ...

Ok, thanks for the heads up. Are there any specific tests I can do to find a bug?
If I knew about those specific tests I would do them myself. No sir, what we need to look for are bugs that we don't even assume can exist. So, it's pretty trial and error, and doing things that are unconventional. (whatever that means) For example click buttons in an unexpected order, or start functions but abort them in midair etc... Or try breaking things, forexample by adding lots of VanGen Jobs or by Starting/Stopping VanGen insane amounts of times, etc... You get the idea.

Sorry to blow up this page, finally getting time to participate a little here.....
When searching for the vanity addresses....is there a way to use gpu rather than cpu from wallet?
And what is the efficacy of say a quad core i-5 when searching or mining for that matter...?
Thanks and apologies if these have been discussed already.
We talked about enabling both in-wallet GPU mining and in-wallet GPU VanityGen in a future version. This will take some time and we need to figure a few things out first.
|
|
|
Awesome thanks, georgem!
Use with caution, it is still in beta-stage. (So for example don't use it to send/receive large amounts of SPR in combination with the vanity-gen-addresses generated.... yet) So I'd be glad if you gave me some feedback after you have done some testing on mac. We have found some bugs with the windows version and improved it, but no real testing has happened yet on a mac. So in effect this means that the mac version is buggier than windows still. Thanks.

Hello all! Forgive me if I missed something, but is there a wallet for mac with the vangen out? Or rather is the latest mac wallet available on the website? Thank you! Looking forward to seeing more of the developments Yes, here it is: http://www.spreadcoin.info/downloads/preview_wallet_0.dmg
