Maybe that is really the reason for all the FUDing in the other thread, some ruthless pool operators plan on running away with miners money
Nope, nowhere near enough money at stake. No, the real danger is that the approach proves basically successful and then gets adopted by other cryptocurrencies, in particular Bitcoin.

I see, it really threatens a whole "guild" of crypto professions.
But that's what decentralization does, getting rid of unneeded middlemen and bloodsuckers.
1362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: February 05, 2015, 01:44:39 PM
"getting rid of middlemen" is another definition of "decentralization".

Nice.
1363  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: February 05, 2015, 01:20:55 PM
When will we see Mr. Spreadcoin back on BCT again to manage things? Perhaps an idea to let some moderator close the previous topic with a link to the new topic?

Mr. Spread was banned on January 27th.

He was put on a 14 day ban.

Here is the thread where we tried to explain the situation to the BCT moderators the same day.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=938394.0

It looks like Mr. Spread will be unbanned around February 10th, so in about 5 days.
1364  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: February 05, 2015, 01:08:58 PM
As a consequence, the tl;dr message cannot be anything other than the simplistic: “No pools”. It needs to make people think twice about any offer of commercial or private syndicated mining of SPR.

That's an interesting way of looking at it.

"No pools" must be considered a WARNING, it's not merely a statement.

Maybe that is really the reason for all the FUDing in the other thread, some ruthless pool operators plan on running away with miners money, and they want people to think "Yes pools"!
1365  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: February 05, 2015, 01:04:20 PM

Looks great!

Ok, here we go.
It's sad that we lose about 6000 posts in the old thread, but hey, most were from trolls anyway.

Happy to restart.
1367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: February 04, 2015, 05:28:27 PM
Nothing changes.  The rich get richer and the poor get screwed.  It's a fact of life and spreadcoin is no different.

Ahaha, maybe you should go earn some money instead of wanting everything handed to you on a plate you lazy oaf? Or emigrate to one of those socialist utopias like Venezuela... just bring plenty of your own toilet paper.  Cheesy

Coffee and suger too if you fancy a brew, that is!  Cheesy

And some cooking oil if you plan on cooking something.  Cheesy

YOU filthy capitalist pig you!

I am an anarcho-capitalist whore and proud of it, thank you very much.  Wink

Holders love this coin ,no matter how bad it is.

Not true. I was attracted by spreadcoin because of the good work done by Mr. Spread and the community I want to be a part of.

Those things (Mr. Spread and community) would need to first turn truly bad, before I give this coin up.

And something tells me this is not going to happen, no matter how much the trolls desire this. haha!

Next testing round will begin in a few days, and it will be so awesome to participate.
Join us at http://www.spreadcointalk.org

Mr. Spread and the community are very open to YOUR ideas, come join us, and participate.

They don't like spreadcoin for reasons, guess what ?

Ofcourse: they have an agenda!

That's a good reason right there.

"Reason"  Roll Eyes

A rapist has a very "valid" reason in his mind why he is allowed to rape someone.

If you ask a bully or troll why he does what he does, he will ALWAYS name a reason.
("he dared to look me in the eyes", "he didn't step aside when I came along", "I don't like his face", etc...)
All perfectly valid reasons for a bully or troll to lash out and misbehave.
But a reason alone is not justifying anything.

Check your philosophy, man. You are not thinking clearly.
1371  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: February 04, 2015, 02:14:55 PM
I'd rather like to hear voices from different people than to see you guys repeatedly applauding here.  Grin

Me too, I love criticism when appropriate.

But every troll hides behind "free speech", claiming that he is just introducing a different voice, lol.
But that's not what a troll is. A troll is not merely someone who criticizes.

Ofcourse we spreadsters love our coin and the work Mr. Spread does, and you having a problem with "our applauding" reveals what's really going on in your mind.  Roll Eyes
Some people have a problem with spreadcoin. They don't like that spreadcoin exists and would rather want it to go away.

I don't wonder "why" any longer.  Grin
1372  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: February 04, 2015, 02:00:49 PM
You don't need to report them to moderators, why don't you talk at spreadcointalk?

If someone spams this thread here, he needs to be reported.
Spam means posting the same thing over and over again without consideration.

1373  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: February 04, 2015, 01:13:19 PM
I'd be fine with Mr Spread closing this thread and starting a new moderated one.

I'm generally against censorship, but I'm more against having my time wasted by the technicolour bullshit of halfwits, and people so cowardly they're afraid to post under their usual pseudonyms.

Hard questions should be welcomed, and debated. Spammers can fuck right off.  Kiss

I hope he doesn't do that.
That would be like admitting defeat, wouldn't it?

I like the attention that this coin is getting lately, and even if a large part of this attention comes from trolls, well... there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Let's just keep posting here and try to handle trolls a little better.

1) Report them to moderators (sooner or later the moderators will have to react, or else it will shed a bad light on them too... people will ask "why are the moderators not moderating?"
2) Don't talk to trolls like they are legit , instead try and sabotage their goals. (don't quote their misinformation, don't answer them directly, circumvent the direction they try to steer)
3) Everyday try and create more posts about spreadcoin, don't make it look like you are only talking to trolls, you are not helping.

I'm really, really sorry. I just can't take the name seriously anymore.

I know it's meant to represent spreading the word, love, coins, etc, and all that good stuff.

But it's just such an unfortunately pornographic name. That might sound sexy, i.e. naturally aligned and will therefore be used to buy porn, but one imagines being taken for an unfortunate ride by spread.  Now you mention fanboys and fangirls; I'm afraid that sealed the deal, so to speak.

Don't forget "spreading the knowledge".

Hey, what's wrong with having a name that the porn industry might potentially identify with?
I'd be ok with that.  Cool

WUUUUT, and by posting this my status is now hero member!  Grin

i also want to say about price and volume. remember: rome wasn't built in a day. just an example Wink: https://web.archive.org/web/20110203031942/http://mtgox.com/

LMAO! Thanks for the laugh.  Grin

Yep, that's the way of the world. Unimpressive things turn into giant forces of nature that really stir things up.

100 Million years ago just a small insignificant rodent, now a highly developed ape that drives cars and interacts with computing machines...

Mr. Spread just said that he is working on the next improved testnet version.
Because the next round will require restarting the blockchain, we might just as well stop round 1 of the testing now, no need to waste precious energy.

Next testing round will begin soon!

Thanks to everybody who participated in round 1 of testing!  Smiley
1377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: February 03, 2015, 12:05:56 AM
There is no coercion going on and anyone is free to take a stab at making a cryptocurrency, I'm simply saying that it should offer some sort of utility to justify its existence. It's a free market based on open source technology... there is no stopping new entrants. The landscape is riddled with ideas that have failed and scams. Looks sloppy and amateurish.

No, that's just evolution.
Take a biology book and you will see the same events and actors there as you see in the cryptoworld: mutations (forks), extinctions (failures), parasites (scams), DNA (open source blockchain) etc...

There is beauty in it. Messy and chaotic beauty.
1378  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: February 02, 2015, 11:46:23 PM
Having hundreds (if not thousands) of anemic cryptocurrencies is doing more harm than a handful that provide utility. If anything, those "decentralized" bundles of altcoins have stripped BTC from individuals only to pocket P&D groups, scammers, and greedy devs.

Again, the only thing that has enabled new ideas to enter the market IS the decentralized nature of everything that allows everybody to input new ideas and share them.
Since people have differing ideas about which way to innovate, you will always see new instantiations pop up, instead of having everybody adapt the same way in "lockstep".

Be careful what you wish for. You will only achieve this goal (having a handful of coins) thru coercive measures. (not allowing anybody else to enter the market, after you have established yourself)

Do you really advocate for that?
1379  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: February 02, 2015, 11:31:19 PM
I've already said my views on comparing crypto to the early stages of the internet, it doesn't need to be said again. I guess we shall see how much utility is truly placed on decentralized currencies.

The only thing I know for sure is, that from now on we will have a constant evolution of money.

We will always see hundreds if not thousands of active cryptocurrencies. ALL THE TIME.

The worst thing for cryptocurrencies would be to suddenly only have 2 or 3 of them and have the rest disappear for whatever strange reason. This would only happen thru (government) coercion (regulation that doesn't allow new coins to be created), never as a voluntary act.

Having hundreds of cryptocurrencies around the world is in itself the most beautiful form of decentralization I can think of at the moment.
So in a way, decentralization has already won, and doesn't need to justify its validity.

Spreadcoin thinks this is the most important lesson of cryptocurrencies.

But some people can't get that in their head, they just want their coin to win, or they hope their coin will be among the last standing survivors of the coin wars or something. lol

NOT GONNA HAPPEN, we will constantly see new coins appear, and old ones transform or die.

We here at spreadcoin think that decentralization is what will give us the best adaptability and flexibility so we can keep on transforming and surviving.
Because in this crazy game of evolution, surviving is the only thing that is of importance.
1380  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: February 02, 2015, 11:08:47 PM
the coin is still being developed. Who knows what will come of it. Sort of like Darkcoin when we first saw it as Xcoin. And it evolved and developed into the coin we know today. Im sure many people had some of the same questions.

Fair enough but the difference is that Darkcoin (or Xcoin as it originally was) set out to fill a void that Bitcoin did not fill. I'm simply asking what void SPR fills to differentiate itself from Bitcoin. Again, the end user doesn't care what algo secures the coin or whether it was mined via pools or not.

The main theme behind spreadcoin is decentralization.

In whatever form it can be achieved and extended.

Mr. Spread has already mentioned many times that darksend is not something he wants to implement, instead he (and the community) will take a different route.

Anonymity is not the main goal of spreadcoin, but decentralization.

But the end user doesn't care about decentralization. Seriously. You think Joe Blow down the street is going to give two flying fucks on whether a coin was mined via SHA, Scrypt, X11 or pools or no pools? The answer is of course not.

He cares about anonymity even less.

Define enduser.
The internet in the early 90s was only understood and used by a handful of people (whose mind was completely blown away by its possibilities)
Yet 99.999% of all people at that time thought the internet was weird, and it took them more than a decade to slowly get on board and understand the true potential of the internet.

99.999% of all people on this planet have yet to grasp the concept and utility of cryptocurrencies.

When this mentality changes, people will start valueing things like privacy, anonymity and especially decentralization much more than they do now.
