if we wanna attract a lot of new people and immediately create a big network of masternodes, why not get rid of any requirement.

I am even thinking about none at all, ZERO, NADA.

Not 1 SPR as I said before.... better yet, why not 0 SPR.

 Grin

(I am serious)
We'll need some minimum amount just to protect form potential DoS attack at launch, we don't want someone to try to create millions of masternodes.

But shouldn't other requirements prevent this from happening anyway?
Like e.g. unique IP for every masternode (and the associated setup costs)?

I mean, how does darkcoin prevent DDos from the masternode side at this moment?
Anybody can just start a masternode, even if it hasn't 1000 DRK in it. But I believe the masternode shuts itself down rightaway, without even communicating to the network, right?
Or does it broadcast/recieve something even then? (Aside from the blockchain)

Cannot find my transaction yet, 30 minutes have passed:

8d626fd32b56cf613d81a1a97c4165532cdd1414bdb6b0754d2c76079c5600cc

Any ideas? What's the max. value that can be transfered to my wallet?

EDIT: It's OK now

5000 is the maximum transaction per time.

Really? I didn't know that.
We need to remove that as soon as possible.
Where in the code is this restriction?
1603  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 17, 2015, 07:52:04 AM
Yup.. this has turned into nothing more than DRK crypto-fiat spinoff, minus the insane ninja launch, instamine and reward reductions.

It's not really a spinoff, spreadcoin will recreate masternodes from the ground up, striving for more decentralization and competition.

I see your transaction in the wallets BE. 3147.75684178 SPR, right?

Woaah... not related with spreadcoin, but look what peercoin did:

They "green washed" their logo. Going environment friendly,... lol

Reminds me of when BP changed their logo to greenwash their image:

I see, lol.

He did make some very valid points earlier in this thread. (I remember from reading the whole thread.... wait I will try and find it)

Never mind the price.. the MN in itself is a third party interventionist's dream.

As if the privkey and gpu mining wasn't enough, this MN bull's shit makes me want to say, "FUCK IT I QUIT" SPR.

Decentralized ... MY ASS !

I hear you.

But aren't wallets just nodes themselves?

It's not like masternodes are here to secure the blockchain, they aren't.

They are here to provide new features like instant transactions or god knows what else we come up with in the future.
1608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 17, 2015, 06:42:52 AM
Is it pool-proof, multipool-proof?

Yes it is, why not give it a try?
The funny thing about multipools is that you'd make more spreadcoins just directly mining it yourself.

Totally, this happened to me when I mined a few new SHA-256 coins in summer 2014. Made more money by finding blocks myself, instead of using my prefered multipool at that time.
Works only best with new coins though, with still rather low hashrate.

Somehow my unofficial spreadcointalk website has had more people online at once than the official one. lol Smiley

what, you still run it? lol

My interpretation of what Mr. Spread said was that there would be a minimum price they started at.  Now, maybe that will be 1 SPR, maybe 100 SPR, I don't know.  But that's how I interpreted it.  Could be wrong though.

You could be right.

Mr. Spread exact words last time he mentioned this were:

I'm working on decentralized (no reference nodes) masternodes and instant transactions. I hope that by the end of this month or sooner we will have public testnet with working masternodes and instant transactions, all code will be open sourced by that moment. DarkSend is much more complicated subject, don't expect it soon.

Amount for running masternode hasn't been set yet. It depends on how many masternodes we want which is not yet clear. The more is better for decentralization, on the other hand we need not to bloat the network with masternode related messages. Instead of setting the required amount it may be better to set the maximum number of masternodes and minimum required amount. Once the number of masternodes will reach the maximum only masternodes with maximum deposits will remain and others will be automatically delisted.

If I interpret it correctly, then we don't need to set any minimum required amount at all. All installed masternodes will figure the price out by themselves, by competing with each other.

You may be right though that the minimum SPR could be set to something atleast a little bit above the ground, say 10-100 SPR, which would make sense...
But do we really want that?

What if SPR goes to 100$ each.. doesn't this make a MN cost 10000$ just to run it (when the requirement is 100 SPR)... isn't this again going against decentralization?

That's why I advocate for not setting a minimum price, because this will create a very healthy competition. In fact that's what will attract a lot of newcomers all the time.

Hey, we can set the minimum to something like 10 SPR, but not more. I am quite sure from a free market perspective that it is very bad for competition to set artificial hurdles like that.
So best thing would be to set no hurdles at all!
1613  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 17, 2015, 06:03:26 AM
Mr. Spread, if possible, could you please release the minimum SPR requirement for masternodes before testing begins?  I say this because I would like to recruit some people experienced in masternode testing and if I have that number, it'll be much easier for me to do so.

Thank you.

I would think testing would be on testnet, with tSPR. Mr Spread should mine a few hundred thousand so we can grab what we need from a faucet and get on with it. Testnet needs miners too, but a few people running the in-wallet CPU miner should do.
Agreed.  My plan is to approach a couple people I respect as masternode testers and offer them a couple masternodes worth of mainnet SPR if they help us with the testing on testnet.  I'd just need to know the number of SPR needed for masternodes to do that.

The required SPR will be dynamic. This is for sure. Mr.Spread has repeated this many times already.
What we don't know yet is, what the max number of MNs will be.

Do you understand the implications of this? It is a little mind boggling for sure.

Say the maximum SPR MNs will be 1000 MN (or maybe it is dynamic itself as I do advocate *), then in the beginning you will see many of those MNs run with just 1 SPR on them.
Why? Because it will take some time before we fill all those thousands of available places, right? This will take weeks, maybe longer. Maybe shorter depending on the success of SPR. I hope!
I say if someone is a darkcoiner running MNs and you are not atleast investing 1 - 10 SPR and installing a SPR MN side by side with your DRK MN then you are missing a big chance here!

The entry point for running a (weak) SPR MN will always be magnitudes cheaper than a DRK MN.

Sure, a strong SPR MN is gonna cost you, but we are talking about entry point here.

So please tell all your masternode friends that they just have to be ready. I say if you keep 1000 SPR at hand, you can certainly finance a few dozen masternodes with it. Certainly. And even keep them alive for a few weeks.... until the price discovery kicks them out of the game. ----> Fierce competition.

* I advocate to have the maximum nr of SPR MN derived from the formula (Available coins)/1000

The richlist website is down Sad
Should we need a cleaner BE and richlist ?

You mean: http://www.multifaucet.tk/index.php?blockexplorer=SPR&top_addresses=100

Yes, it's down, and it wasn't updating for days anyway...

I will probably implement a richlist on spreadcointalk.org in the future.

Hey guys, is there an official logo of "Instant X", or somekind of graphic I can use?

If I remember correctly, I have seen something with the letters IX around these parts... but can't find it anymore.

Not an official one, no.

Thanks, but IX is the accepted abbreviation for it, right?

What basic functionality will those first testnet masternodes provide?
Will they just act like "empty" masternodes first?
All the functionality related to masternodes themselves (adding/removing masternode and masternode payments) will be there. Instant transactions may be not completely finished by that moment but I will try to make them ready.

Together with releasing source code I will write a long post which will describe in details how all of this stuff works, it will be reworked into a white paper in the future.

This is brilliant!
1618  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 15, 2015, 10:56:06 AM
I think we should make a page in Spreadcointalk with the vector logo, fonts etc, images etc. for people to use when designing stuff.

Awesome. Can you do that?

Sure, if I remember correctly you have the .svg of the logo right?

Yes, you can download it from github (where the PNGs are, there is also a svg)

Unfortunately I wasnt able to use this svg since it is encoded in CMYK colors (for print), not RGB, so I can't use it with flash or photoshop, I would need to install illustrator or something like that.
Can someone convert it to RGB?

If you put everything together in a thread, I will put your thread in the "important links" section.

Mr. Spread, what about ETA on masternodes? You said you gonna release them in the middle of january.
I think I said that it will be in the second half of the January and then specified it to be the end of the January. This will be testing on testnet, depending on how well it will work out we will decide when it is ready for mainnet.

Meanwhile spreadcointalk.org is working, it is operated by georgem. Not everything is ready yet, feel free to leave suggestions about how it can be improved.

Great stuff, signed up!

Oh yeah one thing:
I think for uniformity throughout the Spread Identity the font of the Logo should be the Monteserrat, can be downloaded here http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/montserrat.

I think we should make a page in Spreadcointalk with the vector logo, fonts etc, images etc. for people to use when designing stuff.

I did use montserrat, but I made the title logo in flash (and exported as PNG), so I believe it messed the font up. Should use photoshop for that, lol

Is it supposed to be montserrat BOLD, right?
