1501  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you get an address? on: November 03, 2013, 05:12:42 PM
Hello,
I'm trying to get started with BTC and am definitely uncertain about some things.  I am planning to get some BTC from a person on localbitcoins.com.  What are the steps to do this?  I have no cell phone.
1.  How do I get an address?
2.  How do I get a passcode to buy and sell the BTC and store it securely (not online for people to hack)?
3.  How do I confirm that I've received the BTC once I give the seller the cash?

Thanks

1. bitcoin.qt or for android  try Mycelium  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mycelium.wallet&hl=en Both create a starting address and store the info locally.

2. you will have to go online. coinbase in USA is fairly simple. in stting it up you give them access to a bank account. Buying BTC withdraws form account. Selling BTC deposits USD. This is a lot like setting up a paypal acount. At first until you are confirmed you will wait days to get the BTC. Like paypal they can confirm you by performing test transaction of a few cents you tell them the amounts and now you can buy upto 10BTC instantly

3. the wallet does this unconfirmed entries are grey and once confirmed become black.

Oh man, wish I had been watching the network about 9 hours ago xD

Looks like difficulty is back on target, climbing....

It was crazy.

I was testing Krambles latest bitstream on 2 x6500 FPGAs.  All a sudden I started getting blocks every 20 seconds.  My display was filling with found blocks so fast that it took up half the screen (I wish I had taken a snapshot).

Me too but they were all orphan!

I have 129 unconfirmed blocks. cgminer then lost connection. I have reset both and we will see but my guess is orphans

1514  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Script for selling bitcoin through a website? on: November 01, 2013, 12:04:32 AM
Hi all,
I've been spreading the world about bitcoin locally and people are really keen on getting involved. The only problem is the lack of availability in New Zealand without using an exchange or heavily marked up service. I aim to create a basic website that gives instructions on creating a wallet and shows a form allowing people completely new to bitcoin to enter their bitcoin address and amount they want to purchase (in NZD or bitcoin) and be given a reference number and a bank account number to deposit funds to. Ideally this would be saved in a MySQL database or similar system which I can check daily and send orders when the bank transfer comes through.

Is there an existing script for something like this or should I write my own (I have limited coding knowledge but I'm happy to do some googling to find some tutorials)

Thanks!

Angus.

Take a look at htt://www.spiceworks.com it's among other things a very good help ticket system. it has a web portal or can use email. BTW it's free with ads on the server you see your customers never see adds.

your webform sends an email to the box spiceworks is pointing at. It sends a reply with ticket number you update staus in spice works and it emails customer. You can customize email to include header images logos sigs etc.

Windows only lots of videos and tutorials for it

And marked that way on my subject line. but since I'm not OP I can't put on thread. I also tried not to be super explicit anyway. Maybe should have found a thumbnail and linked to full size.

Really don't want to turn this into a nudie thread.

Different users different needs. Smiley

I want a app I can use to access lots of different coins some that have no value as of yet. Like Cubits an GPL

I enter coin type (ASIC,Scrypt,Blake) Port number and network code

Not exactly new user stuff not that hard to enter

That is taking an insanely difficult path, especially for new alt-coins that are looking for adoption, that would even scare me off. Also considering that Hive pretty modular with their use of the bitcoinj library inside objective-c and it would only take one good java developer to make bitcoinj to work with altcoins. I have read the source code of both, not terrible difficult stuff, just middleware problems.

For multiple wallets, I would just have on the menu bar a "wallet" menu, which is a drop down listing all the wallets that are available to that Hive instance, and probably a create new. I would also have a check mark next to the currently open wallet. I would also set a default wallet, that can always be opened on startup.

that would work for me. i just don't want to have a android launcher page full of wallet apps each with an install folder with 9 out 10 identical files taking up space
