1601  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Swapping Wallets for Increased Anonymity on: June 29, 2011, 10:54:00 PM
It does impinge on traceability. I actually do this with grocery stores to fuck with their data mining -- I don't have one of those discount cards for any of the local places I shop at. I do, however, have several friends' phone numbers memorized, and I use those to identify "myself" for the discounts. My friends are aware of this, and find it hilarious. Especially the non-smokers who now get ads for tobacco in their mailboxes. Smiley
That actually works out to their advantage, depending on the grocery store chain.  My local chain Kroger/Frys has deals with Shell gas stations such that if you buy $XX worth of groceries, you get $.10 off per gallon of gas you buy.

This thread disappoints.  I was waiting for "you're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air" Sad
1603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which do you prefer more - Sex or Bitcoins? on: June 29, 2011, 08:53:46 PM
Um yea I'm going to go with sex.  Bitcoins are mined passively in the background (unless you're the type that likes watching paint dry or your HD defragment).  Sex, when done right, is simply amazing.
1604  Economy / Services / Re: rrttyyuu3223 - possible snitch for torrent sites invites. on: June 29, 2011, 08:45:28 PM
I've never been to one of those invite-only torrent sites.  What advantage do they have over something like TPB?
1605  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: MtRed.com [250GHs Web3 0fee LP+ Audio_Notifications] - The Biggest Little Pool on: June 29, 2011, 08:39:38 PM
Oh wow, you implemented some of the feature requests I made Smiley  Awesome!  And grats on the sticky!
1606  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: .25 BTC Bounty on: June 29, 2011, 08:38:38 PM
I think your best bet is to set up some alerts at NowInStock.net.  I usually see 6990s come in stock every other day or so.  None in stock at the immediate moment though.

Yeesh and the $119 version is now $129!

1610  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Newegg 5830 on: June 29, 2011, 08:20:09 PM
Well at least I know their auto-notify feature is worthless.  I have auto-notifies on both 5830 models they list and I never received Emails for either one.  And Newegg.com is whitelisted.

No worries.  I only browse these forums when I'm not in the kitchen Tongue

LOL! Seriously, how many girls read the Bitcoin forum? I mean I'm progressive and down with that "equality" shit, but chicks don't know squat about FPGAs and such wonders.
I don't even know what an FPGA is, but I've been an avid gamer for a while now.  D2/WoW/StarCraft.  The hardware side of gaming kind of led me to Bitcoins.
1614  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: how do you unlock fan control on msi afterburner? on: June 29, 2011, 04:17:41 PM
I just bought one of those Honeywell Tabletop Air Circulator fans which from what I've researched, draws 27/31/35 watts on low/med/high settings.  When it's on low, pointing down at my cards, it lowers the temps by around 6-7C (or around 70-72C total), and I can turn down the fans on the cards by around 15-20% (40% for my 5870 and 60% for my 5830).  Would it be worthwhile to keep the tabletop fan on and reduce RPMs of the integrated fans, or just keep the integrated fans on higher settings all the time?
1615  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What percentage of bitcoins do you think are male owned? on: June 28, 2011, 08:44:49 PM
Female owned BTCs are known to decrease in value over time.

1616  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anybody else getting slaughtered by this latest difficulty? on: June 28, 2011, 08:10:27 PM
But this is assuming same growth. And 120Gh/s for half BTC with GPU technology does not cover electricity expenses even at the cheaper rate of 8 cents Kw I think (I have not made the math really), so its not going to happen.
Well, if you're going to assume that growth will be the same, then the BTC value will double every 3-4 weeks as it has done in the course of June alone.  Assuming worst case scenario (4 weeks) that puts the BTC value at $1088 per BTC by the end of December (based off $17 by the end of June).

Thus mining will still be profitable.

5830 "tweaked" at 318 Mhash/s? How, exactly? water cooling + 50% overclock?
I don't understand how people are having problems hitting this with their 5830s.  I simply opened the box on mine, set the core/memory clocks in AMD GPU Clock Tool, set fan speed in MSI Afterburner, then started my miner with some parameters found in the HW wiki and it immediately hit 316 MH/s. Did I just get lucky?
1618  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 6990s in stock at NewEgg NOW (Watercooled) on: June 28, 2011, 06:15:39 PM
Who is spending over $1 per MHash/s right now on new mining equipment?  That's never going to pay itself back at these difficulty levels.
People who have multi-role systems that do more than just mine.
1619  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why IS the bitcoin limited to 21 million? on: June 28, 2011, 05:39:19 PM
This got me to thinking... given the total pool of money in the world, if everybody suddenly ditched their currency (dollars, yen, euro, whatever) and adopted BTC, how much would 1 BTC be worth in your native currency?
1620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone tried to retrieve my mtgox password on: June 28, 2011, 05:26:10 PM
No.  Anyone can send you an email and set the reply-to address to be anything they want.
I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic Smiley
