Now I'm ready to start grinding out some BTC! U jelly?

1645  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Mt. Gox is up! on: June 25, 2011, 04:39:26 PM
Last trade on MtGox was 17.51, which is a bargain IMHO.  Since May BTCs have doubled in value roughly every 3-4 weeks.  Remember June 1 it was at 9 bux? Smiley

1648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the odds to never mine a block with 500Mh/s solo? on: June 24, 2011, 07:09:48 PM
It sounds reasonable under your parameters, but there's no way I see 2% growth continuing longer than a few months, but I'll go with it.  I just did some really quick math and here's what I got:

Chance of solving with 1 hash today: 1.68814E-16, *500mhash = 8.4407E-08 of solving in 1 second * 60*60*24 = .007293 chance of solving a block today.

I multiplied the odds of solving with 1 hash by .98 in excel, did the same calculation, and continued out for 50,000 days, although excel stopped recording values after 33000 days because at that crazy growth rate you would have a 9.9x10-295 chance of solving a block in a day.

The sum of all the chances of solving a block in an individual day was 36.46%.  There's probably a more elegant solution to this, but I just ran the calculation for another purpose and already had the spreadsheet.

1650  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Next Difficulty in 23 blocks on: June 24, 2011, 05:02:50 PM
Damn, I'm down to 0.3 bitcoins per day now. After the next difficulty increase, mining won't be worth it to me unless the price goes up to AT LEAST $25. But maybe I'll keep mining a while longer anyway, and just hold for a while.
It seems to be going up about a dollar every 3 days or so.  So who knows?

Will the PPS (currently .00005129803015564) value change after the next difficulty bump?
1652  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Good Speeds on Sapphire 5830's 311.4MHash/s on: June 23, 2011, 07:56:39 PM
I was actually using the standard script for poclbm, -v -w 128. I don't think that that was correct because that's deepbit said 650, and when I checked it half an hour later it said 450. Probably just a bad measuring script.
So you're going by the MH/s average that Deepbit displays?  No wonder you're getting 325 Smiley

Ok I got things running with my 5830.  Results so far: 305MH/s @ 990/355, Phoenix 1.50, Catalyst 11.5, SDK 2.4.

It means you are the one who found the solution to that block.
For srs?

I'm looking at my Statistics page and I noticed that the total number of shares generated for the block found on 23.06 09:45:04 is bolded.  Is there any significance to this value?

I wish I had known about this before.  I just spent $29.95 (student discount) on Win7 Pro 64.  Oh well.
1657  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: are people actually still buying new rigs? on: June 23, 2011, 05:35:18 PM
Factor in difficulty increasing 50% every 10 to 14 days with no increase in BTC's value.  The last two 50% increases the average BTC/USD$ exchange rate has actually gone down, not up.

It would be myopic to lend so much credence to a microbubble that was largely from worldwide media hype and come to the conclusion that the BTC is on its way down.  Discounting the artificial spike, if you look at the 2 month curve up to today, the BTC has enjoyed a steady and substantial increase in value.  It was around $8 and change at the start of June IIRC.  Today it's $15.xxx.  That's nearly a 100% increase in a little over 3 weeks.

If you're going to factor in difficulty increases, you HAVE to factor in a logical valuation of BTC progression that follows each increase.  But then again the market sometimes has a mind of its own.  That's the risk we all take when "investing" in new hardware.  But if historical charts mean anything, I'd say it's not at all too late to build a rig and start mining.

Feature Request:

1. When you click each individual worker display the current average MH/s speed for that worker (similar to the total average speed on the My Account page)
2. Put in a field to adjust the averaging window for hashrate display (5-60 minutes) if you implement item #1

That's all Smiley
1659  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: are people actually still buying new rigs? on: June 23, 2011, 03:08:21 PM
Just curious if people are actually buying their 1st and 2nd rigs still? isnt it a bit too late for them to get in the game this late given the diff level is just about to hit 1mil
Maybe if they expect to pay off their hardware the same day.  You gotta look forward though, maybe 30-90 days down the road.  Factor in difficulty increases as well as the BTC doubling or tripling in value.
