1081  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: April 02, 2014, 03:15:24 PM
I've never really looked into Ripple, but from what I know about it, it's the complete opposite of Nem in terms of distribution. But if we had it's market cap, then one million Nems would be worth $211,767.48.

I mean, I was just checking out the current marketcap to compare things, hoping that a Nem stake would be worth at least $5,000 and be happy with that. But then I looked at Ripple and thought it's a really long shot, but why not? Anything is possible.

Ripple market cap is artificial. Something like 95% XRP have never been distributed, so the real market is (100 billion (total) - 95%) * whatever it is on coinmarketcap for one xrp.

All Nem coins will be distributed on the launch date

I would be able to take this currency much more serious if it at least had a decimal place.  Forget "decentralized exchange", "decentralized crack houses", "whatever", where is the god damn decimal place???

It's here https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/name-for-10-8-nxt/

Is it just a clone of NXT client?

Pure clone. if you use your nxt password on nas, you can lose your nxt coins.

Plus it's still unclear if it solves the anti-clone traps that are supposedly in nxt code.

Please don't change anything due to whiners. Stick with the original distribution plan as outlined in the first page. People who aren't happy don't have to invest in the second phase.

Is there any way to purchase larger amounts of NXT?
I have failed to do so, and I will most likely give up  Sad

I have signed up on DGEX.com, which looks awfully retro.
Anyway, I have learned that I can only withdraw 3 BTC per Day which is a no-no. Also, NXT withdrawals are made manually and may take up to 48 hours.
This is not a place I feel comfortable with.

Any serious alternatives, besides BTER where the Volume pretty much sucks?

cryptsy? Or trades here in trading thread.

Cryptsy also has not enough Volume. The complete order book doesn't even have the amount I want to buy.
Could you give me a pointer to the "trading thread"?

Perhaps post here

https://nxtforum.org/trading-exchanges/

and do trade with a well known original stakeholder

If I did *criticize his code* then here is what he would do:

"I quit".

Then the "fan base" will say:

"James, we need you"

and he will come back without changing a line of code (proof of point his continual use of *binary floating point* despite *all my warnings* and even *my proof in code*).

Really? is he still using floating point? I thought he agreed in the end. Oh well...

(snip got knocked out from forging)

Yeah, sucks. Donate to the development fund and live happy ever after.

All those 50 million nxt aren't worth crap without continuous development and marketing guys.

Think of user-friendliness and not nerd standard.

Yes, some people have never seen bat file.

Also, for less experienced windows users, they would be more familiar with an "installer" that creates a folder, unpack files to it, and creates a shortcut to executable (either bat or exe) on desktop that they can click.

By the way, wesleh, have you looked at creating Windows 8 app version that can be downloaded from Windows 8 store? That version would be just the client with no NRS server.

I think we have a big chance to reproduce (or even surpass) NXT initial success

Nxt small number of stakeholder turned out to be advantage in manipulating prices (in nxt favor), as number of coins in circulation (on exchanges)  is lower than it could have been with wider initial distribution. Add the fact that there are 4 times more Nem (and many more people will be trading on exchanges)  I am not entirely sure how high would one Nem go. Plus things have changed with all crappy altcoins around. People are burnt out with buying alt clones then prices go down as developers dump big amount after initial pump.

We will see how it goes, but I am keeping expectations low.

Regarding early birdesr, 50 LTC was same as 1.5 BITC investment?

So early birders who invested LTC, get 0.03 BTC rate?
1093  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: March 31, 2014, 06:01:17 PM
I didn't say NXT had a negative start. I said the only partially released source had a negative effect. So what I'm actually saying is that the NXT start could have been even better imho. With the at least partialy closed source it had kind of a bitter aftertaste.

There is no evidence this is true. This is pure speculation.  If there were clones of Nxt back in November just after IPO ended, I would say Nxt would not be where it is to today. It would be way down.
1094  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: March 31, 2014, 05:59:00 PM
I waited what impact will have releasing of NXT code. The community thought that it will drive the price up, but in reality it did nothing for NXT, just many people trying to copy it. They didnt, but I heard those people saying they are not going to copy NXT code because it is strangely written.
Not sure how important releasing of code is, but think we should do something to prevent copying it.

First rule of economy says that resources are limited, thats what gives them value.
NEM must be valuebale. I totally stopped caring for 1.gen crypto, just because how much of them is in existence. Dont let that happend to NEM.

Why would you say that? NXT code was released in the beginning of March...

Nxt released (old version) of the code in early January -- about the time Nem (which originally was stated to be Nxt clone itself) and dozens of other Nxt clones were announced. None of them succeeded in cloning as there were injected flaws in the code deliberately added to encourage people to audit the code.

The clean version was made open source a few weeks ago, but even then developer claims they have anti-clones trap in the code.

You're right the source release had no positive effect for NXT regarding the price. I think that witholding however did have an effect - a negative one.

Nxt didn't have "negative" start. They had the biggest gain in the history of ALTCOINS, ever. They turned 21 BTC to almost 100,000 BTC. The prices have dropped since releasing the code. If there was anything that had negative impact, it was the fact that it was different and required exchanges to do some work to add it -- not a single exchange that eventually added Nxt cared about code. Cryptsy owners still seem to think it's closed source, even though he added it to cryptsy.

Things have really changed in the last 2 months. It's much harder now to distinguish yourself from hundreds of coins.  Every week there are dozen more crapcoins released. I think you will find it will be hard this time to convince outsiders why they should even care about Nem when 100s of other coins are around. If you make it even more diluted with Nem clones, that will be just bad.

1096  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: March 31, 2014, 05:35:41 PM
But think about it pat, the average user doesn't care about source code. Just look at the post two spots before this one. Don't you think there are some pros in Nem taking its time in releasing its source code?

Exactly. Most people do not care about open source. 99% are using Windows OS, which isn't open source. I am all for open source, but give your self enough time to establish yourself first. You sure don't want to compete against clones, along with all other altcoins within the first 2 months.
1097  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: March 31, 2014, 07:17:06 AM
What are we going to do about cloners who would try to "release" clones even before beta tests are over?

I suggest keep the code obfuscated, at least enough time for Nem to establish itself.  Something like 6 months. Perhaps release the full source code in January 2015

There has been a discussion about this and I'm not sure it's over yet. However I don't think keeping things closed source after the launch is a good idea. It has caused NXT a shitstorm and a bad perception. Look at all the clones that are trying to clone NXT. Has even 1 got a blockchian out ? It's just not that easy to clone a 2nd gen crypto Wink

Nxt made it difficult by releasing code late, and the developer constantly claims that there are anti-clone code even in the current version that allows him to kill the clones if they just change the genesis block and nothing else.

Trust me, if you release the code too soon, the clones will be releasing it before you even finish the beta  tests.  That would be very bad for you.

rumors of china ban + IRS taxing in usa.

I thought that the IRS taxing was positive for BTC. At least they are recognizing and regulating Bitcoin and are indirectly saying that the possession and trade of BTC is not illegal.

personally i don't consider anything "tax" related a good thing.

Move out to Somalia if you don't like any taxes.  Live happy ever after.

Taxes pay for

transport (roads, bridges, infrastructure)
research (NASA)
education
law and order (cops, prisons, judges)
housing
sport
culture
Military, defense, national security

what makes you think there's no tax in Somalia? Cheesy

No functional govt .. no taxes.

Besides, in most third world countries you can easily scam govt out of taxes anyway.

The guy not happy with taxes (even though he uses everything that comes from taxes, -- see my list) should move to any third word country. He won't have to deal with taxes (or at least very little).
