Dude i was only saying that i think Dodge is better than your nxt. Why is this nonsense Yawn.

Why do you care about what's "better" than "my" nxt? I mention nxt still has many active developers in response to something that was posted about nxt developers. Doge is litecoin clone. I don't know anything about doge or its developers. All I know is that they have active community. You should stop your nxt jealousy -- dude.
922  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: May 01, 2014, 05:30:24 AM

Who has the argument and what for ? Oh i see then so Dodge is more advanced then

Doge is a clone of litecoin. It has very active community, but there is nothing "advanced" about it. It's first generation crypto that is bitcoin clone.

Why then is it doing so good ? maybe it's the community
Edit by good i mean a lot better than your nxt

Stop posting nonsense, dude.  The topic of this thread is " No Envy Movement". Would you stop your nxt jealously? It's not "my" nxt. I wasn't the original stakeholder.

Anything involves James nodecoin would need a great deal of luck to go through.

I've bookmarked this. Care to wager a NEM stake on this? Cheesy

Listen, I understand you're the head of NEM. Respect for you and your team. Somehow, in all the 'fair distribution' talk it's forgotten that CfB, Jean-Luc, CIYAM, James and others are a killer team. We're not waiting on an alpha, or picking out logos -- we're testing features now as I type this.

I wouldn't wager my NEM stake if I wasn't 100% positive. Smiley

Are all those people still involved in NXT? I thought CfB's contract was up. It looks like Jean-Luc and wesley have made all the commits for at least all of April: https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/commits/all. Is there another repro where other people are contributing?

CfB hasn''t left totally. He is still around, and waiting for DGS and asset exchange to finish. CIYAM is of course still working on AT project. James is supposedly "working" on dozens of things, but they don't involve changing nxt core. These are all his own projects. There are many others working on various projects (like android apps, games ( http://www.nox.am/  )  websites ( nxt.org, etc)

The front page of the game demo does look inviting. I could agree that NXT is still the most exciting alt coin system out there currently.
I don't understand all this tecky stuff / Does this mean that Dodge is more advanced than nxt ?
Looking at if from a market cap stand point it must be true. I hope one day nxt can shake of the dark stigma of unfair distribution and whales but i don't see it happening anytime soon if ever.

Did "whales" hurt bitcoin? 1 person holds 10% of bitcoin and 200 or so have 60%. Same applies to Litecoin and Peeercoin.  In fact, same applies to Nem. The population of the word is 7 billion. So "3000" (if you ignore sock puppets) would be considered "unfair distribution, by the rest of 7 billion.  Your argument is total nonsense.

NXT blockchain pruning does not even have the concept yet. It won't be easy as some claims to be. If blockchain pruning can be done at will, why do bitcoin not have one already ? So I would say do that first before attempting ping pong messaging.

Who said anything can be 'done at will'? That's specious. And how is Bitcoin, an antiquated 1.0 crypto, suddenly the sine qua non of what can and can't be accomplished?

Bitcoin doesn't have the advantage of Nxt or NEM... smaller cryptos can be nimble. We don't have $5+ billion dollars tied to our blockchains (yet!)

We're testing NXTsubatomic crosschain exchanges *today*. NEM and Nxt don't have committees and foundations breathing down our necks. Or miners. Cheesy

Good luck with the "subatomic crosschain". Wink

No luck needed. We're very close.

Nodecoin is totally different project. He has been working on a lot of things, but we will find out if he delivers once asset exchange goes live

is the wallet safe even if its just beta? i have quite a few NXT. should i transfer them in the wallet or keep them in the exchange?

You mean the official Wesley client? Yes it's safe.

We were talking about old Android app

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.nextcoin.nxtclient

Who is the developer of that app? Does anyone know?
928  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: April 30, 2014, 10:48:26 PM
What Android app?

I don't think we have any android app yet that can be used safely. The one that we have sends passphrase to public node.

Really? That is bad. Nobody should use that one.

its an old app from January or something, I think. I am pretty sure it sends passphrase to public node. Is the developer still around?

We should have a bounty on proper Android nxt app that is regularly updated.
929  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: April 30, 2014, 10:40:56 PM
Hmm, weird. Sending from an Android app and it's not recording the transaction.

ps: How secure is secure?

It would be just as secure as the "weakest" point. In  this this case,  it can't be more secure than public/private key EC cryptography.  Someone is developing Nxt mobile app for encrypted messages

i want to learn java but i want to stay clear away from the "w3schools" types of sites where half the shit is just wrong or not the "optimal" way to do something... :/

Why do you want to learn Java? What do you want to do with it? Java is a "safe" language, but it's not always the best choice.

I wonder if you encountered the same ECDSA problem as BCNext? He didn't want to implement Java's native library ECDSA. He picked ED25519 but the implementation available was too slow. He didn't want to use C version as that would mean losing Java's portability (would require different compiled version for various platforms). He made a risky choice with untested implementation of curve25519, but it turned eventually (after few hickups) just fine https://gist.github.com/doctorevil/9521116

Eadeqa , Grillo, VanBreuk thanks a lot for the amazing quick and informative answer.
Still all the thing seems to me a little fuzzy. But i think i got something straight:
-Is better for me to close the "instance"/node/forge/server as i will not have a super bunch of coins to "mint". (Im using mint term as i have tested already Mintcoin and BlackCoin)

You can use this wallet

http://nxtra.org/nxt-wallet/

it will close everything once you close it.

Just wait a day before your download it, as it's getting updated to 10.0 in a day or two
933  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: April 29, 2014, 09:07:03 PM
Heys, NXT noob here. After installing 1.0 and run it, and opening my web browser, im a bit confused.
So i always need to have this instance running on my windows? is like, to say, an Emule client? so the wallet is on the web? My ID is this : 7842019177529960009 is an ID? a Wallet? i need to activate it in some way?
Sorry for all the spam, and thx in advance.

What do you mean by "instance"? If you are talking about the console (black box), you can make it disappear by replacing text  in run.bat with this

Code:
@ECHO OFF
IF EXIST java (
start "NXT NRS" javaw -cp nxt.jar;lib\*;conf nxt.Nxt
) ELSE (
IF EXIST "%PROGRAMFILES%\Java\jre7" (
start "NXT NRS" "%PROGRAMFILES%\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe" -cp nxt.jar;lib\*;conf nxt.Nxt
) ELSE (
IF EXIST "%PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Java\jre7" (
start "NXT NRS" "%PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe" -cp nxt.jar;lib\*;conf nxt.Nxt
) ELSE (
ECHO Java software not found on your system. Please go to http://java.com/en/ to download a copy of Java.
PAUSE
)
)
)

It will still be running in the background, but you won't see it.

i actually had an idea last night... can we get a multipool mining now? i mean launch the multipool now and let it build up the btc until the coin actually launches? the mining power it could draw due to the massive interest in nem would be huge! and plus if btc takes a massive run up again you will see the dificulty of most coins go through the roof again... why not build up some funds up.. if nem wants to drop a bit after launch let it.. then after the drop start buying up with the mined funds..? what you think?

Sorry to disappoint you, but ShareCoin has already implemented the idea. It has a working multipool even though the coins have not been distributed yet.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=588361.new#new

If it's any consolation, you can still apply for a free stake.

Yeah, they were pretty proud to beat NEM to the punch. Good for them. As long our multi-pool functions as planned its a big win regardless if we go first.

Best of luck to yours. Smiley

stole the friggin idea lol... dont worry that wasnt the full plan.. thats only 10% of the over all plan.. lol so im not worried..ha

Funny about two months ago, I suggested that we could have wider distribution by reserving some coins (anywhere between 10% to 30%) for miners, as longer  IPO was adding nothing but sock puppets.

935  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: April 29, 2014, 05:56:33 PM
I said it previously, and I didn't change my opinion, checksums must be fully specified on protocol level. Otherwise one client will implement them one way, another client will implement them another way, it will lead to same addresses looking differently in different clients.

I have converted the JS source to Java.

But I got one problem: why would a node need this verification in  the first place? A node receives a transaction hashed and signed. So, anything changed in between would cause the transaction to be dropped.

Could you elaborate more, why we need this on server side?

We need in server side so all clients can use it by default.

The real plus to RS is that it eliminates all user errors. The users are unable to type wrong account IDs, so the money is never sent to wrong address.

Edit: Exchanges Will never use the new address format if it's not in server side. They aren't going to implement it themselves.  It needs to be NRS API and it needs to be recommended as default format.

Also, you can simply access through http://coinmarketcap.com/all.html

Without all as default, Nxt is invisible to new users going to the site for the first time  Sad

I'm on a complete boycott Grin

Yes, time to move to a different site. Any suggestions?

Or someone can start a new project that competes against coinmarketcap
937  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: April 29, 2014, 04:58:28 AM
This so-called dilution concern has reminded me of a corny joke.

"Hey, Pal, your pizza is ready. You want me to slice it into six pieces or eight?"

"You better slice it into only six. I can't eat eight."

Now that's funny
938  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: April 28, 2014, 08:46:00 PM
It won't be implemented unless someone writes Java version of it that can be implemented in the core.

Does anyone want to convert this javascript version to java?

http://paste.ofcode.org/fxN2H3FpgAZsjZE54UwE8x

then ask Jean Luk to add it.

Once it's made default in the core, all clients will follow

Looks easy.

Ok, then you can do it. Then we can bug Jean Luc to add it Smiley This is simple version that doesn't do error "guessing"  but that's fine as that should be done by client side.

There is also this version with error "guessing" http://paste.ofcode.org/vzYLSC6RwaE9TZYBzQD6f4

We need just the simple version for the core, I think

Installed 1.0.0 and it looks great! But, I missed two things:

1. Where is time till I will forge next block?
2. My transaction history missing all that I've forged, but balance is OK

Click on "Blocks" (side bar) then on top right select "Forged by you"
940  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: April 28, 2014, 08:33:58 PM
Checksums do not depend on wheather an account is new or not. A correct new address with a checksum can be funded as easily as an address without a checksum.
A checksummed address consists of two parts: the significative part (an address such as we use now) and it's hash. If you made a mistake in either part, hashing of the significative part no longer produce the checksum, what means - the address contains an error, it cannot be accepted for sending money to.

I see where you are coming from.

There is/was this new address format that is even 'self-healing'. I think it is already there but has been disabled right now.

It won't be implemented unless someone writes Java version of it that can be implemented in the core.
