How about just removing 1 of the blades so it only runs on 2 blades? Would that make it quieter?
no you will not be able to lower the fans. the running blades have ⅔ the power and ⅔ the heat sinks. This means full speed freq of 700 one a blade needs fast fans at least 50-60% since the blade running get no help from the powered off blades heat sinks BTW s-7 70% fan speed is full speed in models 1 to 15 not sure about batch 16. some are 65% reached full speed, depends on the fans. some needs 70% to achieve full speed. fan speed, pic of gui on B16 will be great help to everyone.

30 chips per chain is typical indicator of low voltage for chain - dead or malfunctioning PIC controller, exactly this thread. To confirm, you need voltmeter and check voltage at big inductor. Voltage should be about 10.5V. If less, you need RMA or this mod.
i have 1 board that have this problem & it is a RMA'ed board !!! gessshhhhh.... some pictorial will be helpful. ordering a pot on monday.

what are the indication of the not working or failed boards ? -normally the board will show lots of errors -shows 30 chips instead of 45 chips -dashes on the chips -low temp compared to working boards -it don't work at all but sometimes if lucky it "may" work by -reducing the freq to about 500 then let it run for a while then the chips would come back but with slightly higher error than normal -save & apply couple of times & wait, just let it run appreciate if you or anyone could share more info or step by step guide with more pics. thx for helping the community

thx for the find. more pics, info or updates will be great to the community.
thumbs up for a fix. any idea for the older versions with 54 chips per board ?

how difficult was it to remove the heatsinks ? might use custom waterblock with chilled water running thru the blocks. heh.

the S7 fan design is a "suck air" + "blow air" method, no? which fan are they removing? sucking or blowing one? no punt intended they want to BLOW & don't want to SUCK ! heh depends how u look at it though, blow to chips but it can be sucking cold air in too but blow the hot air out

that many chips with 1 fan??? they're mad. even with 2 fans - the amount of heat pushed out is quite substantial. obvious that they are cutting corners now
S7-20160316-700M-1 fan-6000.tar.gz thats the latest FW ... 6000 means 6k rpm fan hmm afaik max prolly 5k rpm for fan of that size. normal s7's (earlier batches) will not run if it only detects 1 fan, but have seen EXCEEDING 880deg C & causing miners to auto shutdown. me thinks mid 70 deg C is still "ok" but exceeding 80C is a little too high. afaik, chips are rated up to 125 deg C. thats only the chips but other components ? hmmm most electronic components can take up to 880 C but if more, i smell trouble. thoughts ?

how do i upgrade the online watching wallet ?figured it out, just DL & install, loads, but keeps on initializing bitcoin engine ... wallet has been fully synced not it says 99% 4 blocks to go thx goatpig & others that contributed did not workout for me, revert back to 0.93.3 any tips appreciated. TIA Start BitcoinQt manually, let it sync. Give Armory another database folder (use --dbdir), start it and let it do its thing. tried that, since 0.93.3 i can't use manual bitcoin qt, have to use let armory run bitcoin qt/bitcoind in the background. i have my qt installed on another hdd & armory on C: drive * i think this could be the problem to start QT/bitcoind manually i tried deleting old db n run 0.94, no go then reverted back to 0.93.3 & let it do what it needed to do, wallet works normal now but when i untick armory auto mgmt of bitcoind, it says armory is offline be it 0.93.3 0.94 when bitcoin qt is already running & synced. how to i use the --dbdir ? running on win7 appreciate a fix. thx again.
