not until kman n ck gives the green light

talking abt gree, kpool is getting some green would like to see more greens.

don't mean to be an a$$ here but few by just flashing stock bitememiner fw have bricked their s9's .. must be manufacturer fault.

but obviously looking into further progress & updates.
302  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 7 on: August 30, 2016, 05:34:20 PM
when will A7 be on sale ??

I heard a whisper on or about Sept 7th.

not to spoil anyone's mood but the pricing ain't gonna be favorable & i hope that i'm wrong. but let's see.
303  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Antminer R4 on: August 27, 2016, 09:47:28 PM
new fan design seems to be more efficient & quiter, kudos to that but here are my thoughts on the R4

1. there ain't gonna be any easy find for the FAN if it breaks down = DOWNTIME !
2. the heatsinks are in a 90 degree orientation so you can only run R4 blades
3. this thing looks WIDE, hence taking up rack space & NON stack-able but imo with a little creativity & simple mod/add on should solve that problem
4. still the same 3 x PCIE jacks for each blade but the orientation does NOT allow for wiring management say if you purchase 2 x R4 with the new PSU but on the new PSU i think I see ONLY 7 PCIE & not 14 of them, well I could be wrong though & it will be most likely to be 18 AWG sizes.

let's see when it launches & my guess was REALLY close with BMT pricing it around 1.7 btc ish range, the PSU is nice for newbies but for the hardcore diy'ers out there, there are alot more options & much cheaper PSU with the same power or more.

will the S9 prices drop after the R4 launch, i'd say NO !

atm, it's difficult for me to purchase the R4 atm UNLESS there are readily available parts with reasonable pricing or any other aftermarkets. The ONLY PROS on the R4 would be most likely cooler chips & quieter miner but i'd still go for the 11.85 ths S9 as i think the EOL will last longer than the R4 & the pricing per ths should be more or less the same & the S9 have some available aftermarket parts readily available.

just my 2 cents.

All solid points, but let's see price and WARRANTY. A consumer item should have warranty of 1 year minimum.
Prediction: they will price it too high, but will relatively quickly drop it once A7 shows up.
In fact, perhaps A7 is also consumer oriented and they are trying to preempt it. We shall see.

sadly :

NO way it's gonna be a 1 year warranty
YES the price will be HIGH & NO the price will NOT quickly drop
A7 price or Avalon prices are ALWAYS a tad more than BMT prices sadly

in other words be prepared for a ROI target of a minimum of 1 year or MORE

so sad but very true EXCLUDING downtimes, warranty claims & the other usual stuffs.

there are holes on the s9 board

Do you know if the holes line up with the same holes on the S5?

And if anyone owns an S9, could you measure and provide the dimensions of the hashing board?

Thanks

definitely NOT the same as the S9 is longer than the S5 & S7 boards

there are holes on the s9 board, look & see carefully but totally agreed, removing the heatsinks will be a VERY painful task & high risk but if 1 can custom make a heatsink plate to be mounted on top of the heatsinks would not be such a bad idea imo but the question is, is it worth it at all to do so, most likely no . . .
307  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: August 26, 2016, 07:22:40 PM
Do you think you could run one board to set it up and lower the freq and then restart it and run both boards at the lowered freq (I've only got an 850w psu)?

Sure why not

Just attach the controller and only one board.  Set freq at 500 vs 550  and boom you are off.

If I get one I plan to run it at 700 or 750 gh

just remember you need 7 pcie cables.

Yep got plenty of cables. Well I've got four gpu points on my psu (EVGA 850w P2) and pci leads that split into two on the ends. Anyone know how much the average controller draws and if it can be run from a Sata/Peripheral connection point on my psu?

It powers the fans  so 40 to 65 watts with fans but this is a new fan.

fan is different but imo should me more or less the same BUT the bad part is that, you will NOT be able to find a replacement fan if it breaks down. !

board is slightly different in terms of the location of the pcie jacks, yes 3 of them & the heatsinks to suit the new fan & casing for the airflow over the heatsinks.

sadly no aftermarket parts readily available & hashboard too. good news is that you;re getting a longer data cable LoL.

I think the controllers are the same.

my guess was right, around 1.7 btc

PSU a little overpriced at USD 300 imo & why would you need 2600W to power a 900W miner & it comes with only 7 PCIE cables, you would need 14 to power 2 of them which is pretty good for those with 220V & up. hmmm

308  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: August 26, 2016, 03:16:10 PM
my guess 1.7btc for the r4.

but I doubt the pricing is gonna be "competitive"

sad but true.

GL to B1 buyers.
309  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: August 26, 2016, 11:09:21 AM
pricing... i think most will be upset but it's gonna sell like hotcakes!

nice & innovative design but fan replacement will be pita. no aftermarket that can be sourced easily.
310  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: August 26, 2016, 07:25:53 AM
too low may not be good, i think avalon did state that their chip best performance is around mid 60's C /

lets hope bmt honors those legit warranty claims, lower the price !!! make it more competitive.

more info on the "normal" operating temps/range from bmt would be a good start.
311  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: August 25, 2016, 07:01:10 PM
waste of time with this smart-ass nutz, where's the ignore button ??

looks like he has a superb imagination & assumption of his own.

@biffa, looks a like a defective board, another buddy of mine has the same x's, write to bmt & be polite, they reply pretty fast & did mention that it could be a defective board, was asked to take the board out n place it on another s9 to test it. will update if my buddy hears anything from bmt.

the unit is a 11.85 ths batch & x appeared after running about 2-3 hours. did the usual stuff, swapped psu, data cable, pcie, etc, etc, no go. fw that came with it was jul 11th me thinks, cant recall but defo defective board.

GL with the warranty claims to those out there "EXCEPT" the nutz expert lol.
312  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: August 25, 2016, 05:33:50 PM
Spondoolies SP20 was fine running chips at 115C ALL the time. Spondoolies SP30 also run 1400W PSU at 1440 W or above at the wall just fine for years.
EVGA 1300 can run at above 1300W (1325-1350) at the wall for years. These are just facts.
I don't know how to translate this to S9 prediction, but seems like 100c on the chip should be fine as it is well below 115.

your confusing server psus with desktop psus....in either case the manufacturers of all psu's dont want you running the psu full tilt 24/7. running it at or above the rated wattage all the time is never good for the power supply. also at the wall power isnt the same as what the psu is rated for. if im not mistaken a platinum rated psu has an 89% efficiency at 100% power so if you are drawin 1325w at the wall subtract 11% from that and thats how much of the 1300w your using of the rated wattage. that will still reduce the life of the psu though and the higher you go the more you knock off the psu so those are the facts. its your equipment so you can do what you want but it is dangerous and will end up costing you money. spondoolies and bitmain are 2 completely different companies with 2 very different levels of quality. i doubt bitmain designed their equipment to run in the same way as spondoolies and the board quality is prob different too so to say the s9 can handle 115 degrees c is retarded. im not saying the miner wont run at 100c and above what im saying is it will hurt the machine and going by the posts here what i have said many times now since the s9 was released has been true. there are other factors involved as well such as humidity. these people r running their miners OUTSIDE IN THE SUMMER TIME for christ sake lol.

if you want to think bitmains quality is on par with the quality of spondoolies your more than welcome to do so but many here will say that they dont match up....not even close. and if you want to assume that bitmains miners are of a quality that says they can overlook the 20-25% buffer zone like evga and server PSU's can then its your hardware. i watched people lose s7's and s5's all over the place....i didnt lose a single one and thats because i didnt run mine like they run theirs. if you cut corners dont come bitchin to the forums when your miners die from being improperly used. if i ran them in those same conditions and mine died do u think i would bitch about s9 bein shitty quality and so on?? nope! because im smart enough to know not to beat the hell outta my investment....not if i want it to pay me back that is.

talk too much !

s7 ... early batch 54 chips have been running since day 1, overclocked now after warranty expired in harsh environment with lots of dust & avg ambient temp of 33 deg C till now still running, the temps in the day is around mid 70's nitgh about mid 60's.

bunch of them are still running till today.

i'm not saying to run & push miners, psu, gpu or any other electronic//electrical equipment to them max, but it is able to do so !

so far the s9's for me are doing well, fingers crossed, most of them run around 70C board temp on avg. fan about 65% 4200 rpm ish.

Can the fan speed  of my antminer s7 be put on a schedule?
I bought this program so the fan speed and frequency could be on a timer
Hi,
There is a guide on the web site how to setup scheduling of Antminer frequency changes:
http://www.awesomeminer.com/help/antmineroperations.aspx

Changing fan speed is currently not supported, but could possibly be added if there are any interest for it.
How is the S7 reacting to a lower frequency - will it automatically lower the fan speed because of the lower heat?

Changing the frequency is no problem - I have the miner at my work and want it to be quiet during the day so I need to turn down the frequency to get cooler temps at low fan speed.
The fan is not automatic, so nothing will change at lower/higher frequency.

The reason I purchased this program was for these two reasons.

Maybe there is another way to control fan other than creating a new program?
I do not know much about SSH/API but I have been looking hard for a way to do it.

Thanks,
I think I have an idea how to implement fan speed control in Awesome Miner as well, without too much effort. I'm not sure which versions of Antminer it will actually work on, but please let me know if you would be interested in trying a development version of the feature within a week.

it'll work just like freq adjustment but miner will have to go thru a soft reboot.

will this feature be available for dev version or still have to pay ?

sob sob no budget Sad

for the older version fw of s7, it's just like the s9's, will change to restricted after a reboot n will have to overwrite again unless during boot time it's been over writen to give access to all privilleges Wink

it dosen't even show at bottom of the screen ... meh

updated chroe (it crashed my pc though) but after recovering from crash n chrome, it's all good now.

thx Wink

weird, some miners says it's alive but some miners says it's dead at hk & jp.

double checked the poll, add & pwd all same

but some miners dead some alive.
