421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Well Prepared For the Bull Market And So Far In Bitcoin Investment. on: February 17, 2024, 01:03:20 PM
Congratulations on holding on to the stash and believing in Bitcoin. There are two roads that you have now, either keep accumulating to get to the target of 1BTC or offload your stash in the next bull run. I think you need to keep the stash and accumulate more till you reach 1BTC as that would be a big profit in the coming years. In the end, I would say what you have done is not possible for anyone, someone like me would have offloaded everything and still be not happy with the outcome. You have demonstrated patience and clarity, resulting in a positive outcome. Your future accomplishment should be even greater than the one you achieved with your patience.

^ 126 runs lead by India without Ashwin is just bowling at its best on a batting pitch. Jaiswal got his second hundred in this test series and most probably would replace Gill as an opener with Rohit. Gill is now insecure as the position he is batting is meant for Kohli. Till he comes back Gill can enjoy that spot after that he might struggle to find a spot in the team. He might struggle to be part of the T20WC team too, I feel. The third test match is now being dominated by the Indian team. I am confident they would easily surpass 445 runs this time.

I haven't replied to him and I am not answering his call as I feel I would be doing injustice if I say yes. I am confused and do not know what to do, what do you guys suggest?
You want you to help him by giving him money. Is that correct? Or you want you to borrow him money? If he is a good friend and you are able to give him the money without borrowing him, you can. I mean just give him an amount of money that you can afford to give a friend in a way that you can afford to lose such money too when gambling. Definitely he will lose it at last, just know that. I just want you to know that. He is an addict and addicts always lose. If the person is my friend, I will not borrow him or give him any money for gambling.

I can give him the money from my pocket and forget it. The problem will remain the same as next time he would expect me to again bail him out. It is not a viable condition he needs to learn about finance the hard way which I am ok with. What he is now asking is another gamble with his life and his family and that is making me insecure as he would either kill himself if this thing does not work out or he would massacre his family and then kill himself. His desperation is real as those loan sharks are now pressurizing him to make the full repayment before the due date or pay them extra within the time frame. I do not want to be part of such situation but I have to help him and that is kind of a messy deal that I am in.

I suggest you to give him his account back and tell him that you can't do that for him. It's something totally unethical to exploit bugs of a casino and use those to take advantage of it. It would be much better if you contact that casino and tell them about the bugs so they can fix it and be safe from such exploits.

I have thought about that but considering the financial mess my friend is in now I could not. I have to think about him first rather than the casino as he is married and has two kids. It is not that he is not working both he and his wife are earning a decent amount of salary. The problem started five years back when due to COVID-19 he lost his job and at that time his wife was not working. There are many issues related to this guy who is my friend and some of them cannot be discussed openly in the forum. I appreciate your suggestion, thank you.
425  Economy / Gambling discussion / Escape Debt with Gambling: A Dangerous Cycle on: February 16, 2024, 12:12:10 PM
We all have debts somewhere or the other and we try our level best to repay that debt. While some of us can do it with ease, some of us face issue after issue to repay it. The situation leads us to find alternatives like consolidation loans or shifting existing loans to another bank at a cheaper rate. But what happens when you take a loan from a loan shark due to a bad reputation with banks? They give the loan without any problem at a high interest rate and most of the time it will be a noncollateral loan. Why I am saying all this because one of my friend has become a victim of a loan shark and to repay the loan he has now shifted to online gambling.

In my country online gambling to an extent is legal but as we all know the house always wins. He tried multiple online gambling platforms but never made any money. Two days back he called me up and said he found an online casino that had a few bugs as one of his colleague was able to cash out a handsome amount by using some tricks. I won't go into details of those tricks as it was complicated for me to comprehend, what he wanted me to check was to find out whether it is possible to trick the system. He asked me to check the casino and he even gave me his account information to try a few games.

I was earlier skeptical and denied his request but he insisted that I take a look. I did and found that the games are not that tough to be rigged if done correctly but when I checked the account balance and found out that he had already invested a good amount of money to make a win and lost a substantial it I was furious with him. Now, he wants me to help him so that he can pay off his debt at the earliest. I have already told him that gambling is a dangerous cycle and it can lead him to more debt. Still, he insists that I help him and is willing to take a risk.

I haven't replied to him and I am not answering his call as I feel I would be doing injustice if I say yes. I am confused and do not know what to do, what do you guys suggest?
426  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the Bull Charging or Just Warming Up Post-Halving? on: February 16, 2024, 11:39:31 AM
It is a temporary rise due to Bitcoin ETF as we all were speculating earlier. It took some time to reflect in the market and now it has that is why the price of Bitcoin went above $52k and is still holding. I am expecting another spike in the price which we should see in the month of March and then we will see the halving effect in the price. This is nothing compared to what will happen post halving as this might be the year when Bitcoin will go above its old ATH. I am sure that we should more such price spikes as the demand for Bitcoin has been increasing through the ETFs. If Hong Kong's central bank approves Bitcoin spot ETH then there would be a flow of Chinese money which will again help the Bitcoin price to up.

Getting 2 wickets on a track that is good for batting before the end of day 2 is impressive. I was not expecting early wickets on this track as Ben Duckett is looking impossible to stop. He has already got his century and now he is planning for another one it seems. Bhumrah has not been able to get any wickets for now but he will as he always does. India batted well to get 445 runs in the end Jurel was good with the bat and he has been good behind the wickets too. I guess Bharat might be said goodbye if this debutant performs better than him. So far he is doing good and better than Bharat as per my understanding of cricket.

429  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Argentina to Pressure Citizens on Declaring Their Crypto on: February 15, 2024, 01:29:41 PM

The report reveals that amidst economic turmoil, 60% of Argentine crypto purchases on Bitso were allocated to dollar-based stablecoins such as USDT and USDC, with just 13% of purchases dedicated to Bitcoin. This contrasts with Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico, where stablecoin purchases ranged between 31% and 40% of total crypto acquisitions.

Notably, these stablecoins emerged as some of the “fastest-growing” cryptocurrencies in the area. Bitso’s analysis reveals that approximately 26% of the average portfolio of users in Argentina comprises stablecoins, driven primarily by the country’s economic environment. Bitso attributes the significant demand for stablecoins in Argentina to the prevailing political and economic context, where citizens seek alternatives to combat inflation and currency devaluation."

Ultimately, these guys are going into a domain where stable coin takes the upper edge over Bitcoin. That said, the country's economy is so bad that they need stablecoins to counter hyperinflation. What makes me question their investment is when they know stablecoins are pegged to USD, which of course is on the verge of getting devalued as it is USD basically why did these guys not consider Bitcoin as a concrete option.

Is this because they fear their wealth growing down or is this because they cannot afford to invest in Bitcoin? Normally everyone wants to buy 1BTC rather than holding on to satoshi. The perception is that Bitcoin is not accessible like it used to be before 2017 because of its market value whereas a stablecoin is still accessible like 1 USDT = 1 USD.
430  Local / India / Re: Suggestion! Access Banned International Exchanges with VPNs that Accepts Crypto. on: February 15, 2024, 12:59:16 PM
I am not fan of using centralized exchanges for very long time so this URL ban didn't affect me at all in any way, but people who trade altcoins has to find a way to avoid taxes not to evade and that is why we have seen an exchange named Pi42 for futures that avoid taxation.

I believe p2p is the best possible alternative as of now than using centralized exchange because if we deposit or withdraw fiat from exchange it will connect our account and government will certainly know what we are doing with the money, so VPN just bypasses the access of site, but it doesn't safeguard money trail.

While this list can be useful for someone who trade crypto to crypto and doesn't cash out their crypto in INR.

you cannot trade on a DEX as comfortably as you can do it on a CEX. I have previously traded on pancakeswap and I was not able to make a trade comfortably as I was able to do it on Binance. The sole reason of me using a CEX is not for converting crypto to fiat but for trading. I do not use International exchanges for converting my profits to INR, I still use a local exchange to do it.

If anyone is interested in using a CEX that is not banned then try Bybit exchange. It has good trading pairs and also decent volume. It doesn't allow trading without passing KYC which is an issue if someone here hates KYC. Another alternative is dYdX which is a DEX that to has good pairs and decent volume for trading. KYC is not required as you need to connect your wallet for trading. For P2P if anyone is interested in converting crypto to INR there are DEX like localmonero that have good merchants who don't scam users.

I once thought of using Bybit exchange but the problem is that it does require a user to go through KYC first. I have already done it with Binance and I am not interested in doing it again with another exchange. I am hearing dYdX for the first time and I will take a look if it is worth it for local Monero I am aware of it.

Amazing debut by Sarfaraz Khan got his fist 50 in just 48 balls. Rohit playing a captains knock today got his century and most probably Jadeja will get his century today. Shubhman Gill played his natural game today as he got out for duck. Sarfaraz playing in a similar fashion as how Panth used to bat in test cricket. He is constantly hitting the ball out of the boundary, it looks as if this is his natural game. Good comeback by India after losing early wicket today, they have only lost 4 wickets and have 306 runs on the scoreboard. The way Khan is batting I guess they will reach 350 by the end of day 1.
432  Local / India / Re: Suggestion! Access Banned International Exchanges with VPNs that Accepts Crypto. on: February 14, 2024, 02:02:36 PM
I will honestly suggest my fellow Indian forum members not to indulge in illegal activities. It won't be long before the law enforcement agencies find that out and start the legal proceedings against you. So I would suggest to stick to the Indian exchanges and pay taxes honestly. This is my way of doing things though. It may not appeal to a lot of other people.

But don't make the mistake to think that Indian law enforcement agencies are not smart enough.

It is just a suggestion, do not take it so seriously as many will not walk on the path you suggested. BTW, it is evident now that the government does not care and will not understand our problem as a community. There are discussions on some popular subreddits to find international exchanges that are not on the list of government bans.

These old/new investors venture into a new exchange for investment or would fall into the trap of local scams. As the bull market has already started, they would again become a victim of scammers and to avoid that I have come up with this list. If you want to take ownership of the present issue then go ahead and ask the government to remove the ban. If not then suggest the Indian community with alternatives otherwise we will hear more of scams related to exchanges in the coming months.
433  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why we need to stay vigilant on: February 14, 2024, 01:40:14 PM
We have seen harsh regulatory policies on crypto service providers and most of them have tried to comply which makes me feel issues like this that could affect the growth and reputation of the crypto industry should be taking seriously rather than just issuing warning.

More scams are happening around the globe using the US dollar or the local fiat currency. Pointing fingers only at cryptocurrency scams and asking for tough regulations won't stop scammers from scamming. The problem lies within those who are using cryptocurrencies for their benefit as most of them believe it is an easy path to becoming financially independent and it is an easy way to become rich in a short time.

Those who believe in such an ideology are the ones who do not have an idea or the knowledge as to how to prevent themselves from becoming a victim of a scam. They are the ones who fall into the trap of scammers because of their greed and the urge to get profits that are not realistic.

The growth and the reputation of the crypto industry are not dependent on such scams. If it was then we won't be discussing it after 15 years of the existence of Bitcoin as most scammers use its name to scam investors. It is an ongoing issue, as Bitcoin adoption goes up we will hear more such scams in the future. The only way to not fall for it is to educate oneself about safeguarding Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies before investing in them.
434  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Would you invest in a project that assists families of fallen first responders? on: February 14, 2024, 01:20:44 PM
I have seen charity projects and still do not understand why anyone would invest in them. The reason is that there are other ways to support a cause and a charity project on the blockchain does not make a difference. I have seen such projects failing as they do not provide any solid reason to pump money into their tokens. Another important aspect is that this project is dedicated to a country in specific. Why would anyone who is not a citizen of that country invest in it as it does not even benefit global fallen first responders?

What I consider are the red flags is that your token won't be able to deliver the profits as none of us are here to donate our money.  The second red flag for me is that your team is hidden and I cannot trust anyone hidden asking for donation. The third red flag for me is your mission statement which says according to your website, "to use blockchain technology as a force for good by assisting the families of fallen first responders". Three red flags, either it is a scam, or the project founders have zero knowledge of how cryptocurrency markets work.
435  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What contributes to a casual gambler becoming an addicted gambler? on: February 13, 2024, 04:33:37 PM
They think that they can "beat the house," just like what happens in stock trading. People want to "beat the market." Then they seek patterns, formulas, techniques, etc., that can give them an advantage in gambling.
Expectation vs reality strikes everyone when they start losing as they forget the house wins. The reality is that unless you play for excitement and adrenaline rush it is not entertainment. When trying to outsmart the house it becomes addiction and the rest is known.

Whether it's sports betting, table games, or slots, all can be victims of this "Gambler's Fallacy." After so many years of wasting time and money, and digging their debt hole deeper, they eventually realize that they just cannot beat the house, and it's too late.
Agreed!

Another reason is:

A good run, or a massive win.

A good run comes once in a while whereas a massive win is something every gambler dreams and one in a thousand will be able to achieve.
436  Economy / Gambling discussion / What contributes to a casual gambler becoming an addicted gambler? on: February 13, 2024, 04:00:51 PM
I was wondering what makes someone transition from a casual gambler to a gambling addict. Here are six reasons I've identified.

  • To find an alternative full-time earning source
  • Chasing Losses
  • Lack of Alternative Income earning opportunities
  • Using Gambling as an Excuse for Personal/Profesional Problems
  • lDream of Winning Big
  • An excuse
  • Setteling ongoing debt

If you have anything else then do write it down on this thread. This thread is only to help anyone who is into daily gambling realize the incident that led to compulsive gambling or everyday gambling.

This is a self-moderated thread that means if anyone here wants to vent out his or her frustration then they are welcome.

Let's hear it so that everyone knows.

437  Local / India / Suggestion! Access Banned International Exchanges with VPNs that Accepts Crypto. on: February 13, 2024, 01:31:45 PM
After the URL ban and mobile application ban of some of the most used International exchanges by the Indian government. The question that comes up in our mind is when this blanket ban will be removed. Is the government trying to ban Bitcoin and altcoin trading? What options do we have to access these international exchanges?

There are so many questions that you might have in your mind about the current situation. I won't be able to answer any of them in this post. However, I can suggest an alternative way for you to access international exchanges on your desktop or laptop. I am not sure about mobile devices as they are a big privacy threat even if you add a VPN. The reason is that all of us are not so smart in stopping apps from accessing our location.

If you want to ensure your online privacy and security while using VPNs, it's better to avoid paying subscription amounts using your debit/credit card. This is because the government can still track your payment, compromising your privacy. Instead, you can opt for VPNs that accept Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies/stablecoins. This will allow you to access these exchanges more securely and conveniently.

To help remind all of us here which international exchanges are banned, I am listing the names of those exchanges below.

List of Exchanges that are shadow banned:

  • Binance
  • Kucoin
  • Huobi
  • Kraken
  • Gate.io
  • Bittrex
  • Bitstamp
  • MEXC Global
  • Bitfinex

List of VPNs that accept Bitcoin or altcoins/stablecoins

  • NordVPN
  • Surfshark
  • ExpressVPN
  • CyberGhost
  • Private Internet Access (PIA)

There are different ways to achieve online privacy, and some people might suggest using the TOR browser instead of VPNs. However, it's important to understand that the TOR browser will slow down your internet browsing speed, which can be a significant inconvenience if you need to engage in online trading activities. On the other hand, VPNs provide a fast and secure connection, but they usually require users to pay for their services.

I have personally used two VPN services, namely Nord and Express. In terms of providing a secure, hidden, and anonymous connection, both of them have proven to be excellent. I want to clarify that I have not received any payment from either of these companies for writing this post. If you have used any other VPN service, please feel free to share your experience by replying below.
438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Community take over $WAGMI on SOL network on: February 13, 2024, 10:32:30 AM
Meme coins are a gamble, if the coin pumps, enjoy the profit if not then forget about the invested amount. If anyone wants to actually make good amount in a project that is gradually showing positive signs then invest in Solana. The coin is doing well in the current market condition and with staking it's investors can earn good passive income. I have not invested in Solana as of now that doesn't mean that I might not. With the onset of bull market we would see many more shilling post of shitcoins, do your due research before investing in meme coins.
439  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: The Hot Wallet dilemma on: February 13, 2024, 09:50:47 AM
If Hot Wallet developers already have access to users' databases, they certainly know what each person's private key is. So, what is the security of a Hot Wallet?

It depends on what kind of wallet a user is using. There are two kinds of hot wallets, one is open source and the next one is closed source. If a user is using a closed source wallet then what you have written is correct. If a user is using an open-source wallet then their source code can be verified to check where is the private key is being stored. Another important thing a user needs to check while using a hot wallet is that it should be noncustodial.

Reputed and trusted wallets like Electrum don't use such tactics. Some wallets have a big reputation and they do publicly claim that they don't have access to the private key of a user. Either you can trust them or go for wallets that have been recommended on your thread.
