Hello guys,
it's my first post here but I follow you since early february
(sorry for my english)

Here is what, in my opinion, should be done (in the order)
We should make it known among the cryptocurrency community before making it known to "everyday" people, so:
-First a video should be done I totally agree, and a contest is indeed a good idea! A video dedicated to spread the word about the digishield, among the cryptocurrency community, and especially the miners which can best understand this new feature and why it's better than KGW or anything else. I personnaly don't fully understand how the digishield works and I would really like to see a video about it !
This video should have animated charts to make it easy to understand, with a comparative (Without anything / With KGW / With Digishield), the new digiman not static (at the beginning or/and at the end) and the digibyte 3D logo (http://i.minus.com/imSI6tYS1DYkC.gif from cinemagfx is very nice!), in a corner or anywhere I don't know, it should be professional AND fun, something very dynamic (not that easy I guess..)
-Big advertising campaign! A nice small digiman+coin picture with sum up of the features could be useful to make it catchy on the social networks
-Let make these new people vote on cryptsy, we need to reach at least the 600 likes to make it obvious that they must add it! Getting on cryptsy would give us more visibility for sure. And we really need more volume Smiley ! But it's true that we could also live without it, waiting for mintpal and others to grow.

Then, make DGB very accessible and make it known among the everyday people:
-The website is nice, but it can be improved. It could be more dynamic!
-Digibyte foundation. I personnaly would be happy to give some of my DGB to a well chosen cause!
-Digibyte store
-Digibyte plugin like the coming digipay from moolah (maybe the digiteam should contact them digibyte on digipay would be amazing!)
-USD/DGB exchange
-Another video : many people now know bitcoin, let's tell them know that Digishield is like bitcoin but more secure, faster and very easy to use!
-Public and social network giveaways.
...
Annnnnd that's all I have in mind right now. Keep up the great work guys !
Awesome, these are some great ideas, thank you for the feedback!

I think an ad in this forum would do wonders.  There are so many coin threads most people don't know which one to click and end up not clicking any at all.  Even just little ad would give us that extra push to bring more people in.
Do you know who to contact to do that?
1847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] DigiShield v2.0 Now Live ✈ Mandatory Update ✔ on: March 04, 2014, 08:05:45 PM
A few more:

- Set a goal of 1-3 merchants that are larger firms that will accept DGB as an option. I know some are still contemplating BTC, but use our value play (better security, faster transaction time, pricing, etc)

- Develop a press team to constantly let investors, community and the public know about DGB

Very good ideas as well. We have been talking about adding a "press" section or RSS feed to the website that will push out news to Twitter, Facebook and Reddit.

Our biggest marketing strength should be: that DigiByte is very young. And everyone wants to jump in at an early stage to gain the highest possible profits!

thats all we need to convey to the bigtimers, tell em nows the time.. later will be too late.

Yes, our biggest weakness, is in fact our biggest strength...
Very good point Storm!

I made two digibyte gif-files. Feel free to use them on forums to promote this coin.

Maybe it's because it's early morning here, both of them makes me psychologically uneasy.

I will start off:

- Larger social media presence via Reddit, FB, Twitter and other tools.

- USD/DGB direct exchange with reasonable threshold limits for deposit and withdrawals (50K a day is not very high)

- Media coverage

- Tighter community via IRC

Very good points, thank you YC!

We will be releasing the DigiRoadMap this coming Friday. The DigiRoadMap will be a detailed list of specific DigiByte goals to achieve over the next 6 months. Within the DigiRoadMap will be bounties and tasks to be completed by community members who volunteer in exchange for some DigiBytes.

The DigiRoadMap will also outline marketing objectives as well as a marketing plan. There are many bright & talented community members supporting DigiByte. Our goal is to put us all on an organized path that we can work on in a step by step manner to take DigiByte to the moon!

Please start listing what you would like to see happen in the next 6 months.

The Digishield, participation of development team, and great community are starting to bring the price up to an almost reasonable level.  Many people bought around 250-300, so have it at around 70 is still ridiculously low.
Unfortunately, DigiByte is a large total coin crypto.  The price/value ratio is much more sane at the moment.  Unfortunately, many bought in at the top of the 400 satoshi pump, but that does not mean that the current price is "under-valued".

That said, I would expect growth from the current reasonable price any time one of two things happen:
1.  Demand in the market rises.  More money chasing fewer coins = higher prices.
2.  Over time, as the block reward goes down, assuming demand remains stable.  Again, more demand chasing fewer coins = higher prices.

Guys, now is the time to get more people on board! Promote DigiByte on your twitter, on reddit, in another thread - someplace! Say it's due to DigiShield, say it's Wolong, I don't care how you spin it - DGB is moving up, tell people and get them on the train!

Promoting a coin you believe in is always a good idea.  "Jumping on the train", is unfortunately like saying, "Pump".  In the short run it can be fun, in the longer run not so much.

In the long run, promote and argue in such a way that brings people into the fold for the long run.

Just my two digis Smiley

As for the first part of the analysis - it's all good, but you're willfully ignoring competition and interest. All of those increases based on the numbers still rely upon interest and growth in the coin. You can also easily see it is undervalued in comparison to nearly any other altcoin that we're attempting to compete with. Take a coin's total supply, current supply, market prices, and compare those ratios to DGB. DGB is undervalued for it's pure supply numbers - period. There is no arguing that point until the rest of the coins come way down in relation to DGB. Is it undervalued as a whole? Normally I would say so - but I'm losing faith...

As for the 2nd point - I don't disagree, but promotion is near zero on this coin in any official capacity. I'm a long term holder - today is the first day I've daytraded any DGB at all after following it since launch - but that's what this coin has going for it now, it has attention. Grasp it now while you have it. Lots of people paying attention to crypto are speculators, I daresay most, and the slant of my suggestion is to entice speculators to take a look. I was a speculator for profit when I first mined DGB, but I later decided to hold as I learned more. So you're saying we shouldn't try to coax the biggest segment of the crypto audience over - because they're acting in a purely speculative manner to start? You want to be picky about the type of people who should come grab holdings of your coin ASAP? Are you really the face of PR? *blink* I'm not trying to be a dick, but this is a pretty conservative stance in a bubble market full of speculators.

All interest is good interest, the whales are already playing with it, the pumpers who can move markets aren't going to get the news from me or anyone in this thread that DGB should be looked at - they're already playing it. This is an *opportunity where attention has spiked* - stop analyzing the quality of the attention and fucking grab the opportunity to promote. The whales and pumpers you seem to imply you don't want around are the exact people giving you the opportunity RIGHT NOW to attract smaller speculators due to their actions with the markets. It doesn't matter if it leaves a bad taste in your mouth cause pumpers are behind the spike, this is a great opportunity to embrace the exponential effect of social awareness and expand the user-base. Your goal should be more people using DigiByte, period. You want everybody.

I'm quickly losing faith with the complacency of how marketing of DGB is being handled. You all seem happy to keep it a clubhouse where everyone knows each other. If that's the case I won't be holding for long. :/

A large user-base underpins literally every aspect of this coin's success. My urgent tone comes from the belief that in bubble markets, even prospects with great fundamentals will sink if they do not navigate the bubble wisely. You can choose to wait on the sidelines, hoping for hype to recede, the herd to be culled, and logic in investing to come to crypto - but I personally believe choosing that route is risking being one of those who is culled. When the altcoin bubble pops and the fat is trimmed, the remaining few will be of the bold who took a chance, not the conservative players who waited for an opportunity instead of creating their own. Puff your chest and shout louder, even if it's not in your bones to be that way.

DigiShield should be pushed as the greatest thing since sliced bread and lightyears ahead of KGW, soon all coins will use this idea, etc. Even if that's all bravado and it's only a marginally different implementation, this is how things should be handled right now! There should've been/should be an official social-media press release for DigiShield and the 2.0 fork update, a page or less highlighting the need for something like this, the problem it fixes, why the competitors fell short, and why everyone will be using it soon. It's innovation because we say it is. See where I'm going with this? Where is this type of proactive promotion on behalf of the DigiByte team?

You bring up some great points, we are preparing to do some more massive marketing for DigiShield in the next few days! Since we have not heard from Bman3 in several weeks now we are talking about opening up a DigiByte video promo contest! As well as getting someone else who can do some work with the DigiMan.

Some people have expressed an opinion that the difficulty is changing to much or too fast. That is what it is supposed to do when the net hash changes up or down.

The difference is no other coin difficulty changes and adapts as quick as DigiShield. It is about as instant as you can get. It is much more accurate at mirroring the actuall hash rate than any other system including Kimoto Gravity Well. Even with the Kimoto Gravity Well Multipools still have the chance to "instamine" for quite a few blocks when they jump on a coin. Then one they leave the KMG can get "Stuck" for awhile at a higher difficulty.

We saw a sudden increase from less than 2 GH to over 8 GH yesterday. DigiShield performed beautifully and the multipools got a very small amount of coins compared to what they are used to getting. Not only that, but we never were "Stuck" at a high difficulty like most other coins would have been with such a dramatic increase in hash.

how do we apply this?
changing subsidy func to "lambda height: import('digibyte_subsidy').GetBlockBaseValue(height)"
and adding  digibyte_GetBlockBaseValue.cpp in p2pool/p2pool Huh?

Don't think we need to change anything, got 0.02% of orphaned with the current setup.

How did you get  0.02% ?

Please explain.

How ?
I'm talking about my orphaned shares, not DOA. Out of 2400 shares, 50 are orphaned on my side.

I have checked your pool recent blocks

https://github.com/chaeplin/SUBSIDY_FUNC/blob/master/digibyte-subsidy-python/recent_blocks.md

So many orphaned blocks. 0.02% ?

Just one sample.
http://p2-pool.eu:9022/static/share.html#58d8657a9020fe5d3a56afb9b1f28cc4e4df9174a3c68ec1f62e85302bc9fc4a

Value: 8000 DGB

he's got a total of 460 Dead shares!? :O

cant imagine the orphans
This info appears to be coming from the old chain. Did you update to DigiShield?

Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh

whats the hale of net hash ??!!  6 G     !!!
We just got hit by a couple multi pools and the difficulty adjustment worked like a champ!

// Maximum 400% adjustment...
        bnResult *= 200;

Is there something we are over looking here? With a much higher (actual) hash load will this adjustment act differently? What are the dangers of allowing very large diff swings like this?

Also, with a higher difficulty # like the 10-20 range we currently see, will we see any other phenomena that we can't test in the low hash test-net environment? Are we on the right path? What are your thoughts?

I think this might give miners a lot (as in, A LOT) of rejects as soon as the difficulty adjusts, unless your tests say otherwise.
Good point to consider! Thanks for the feedback! We will look at that more in depth.

Told you so.. Tongue

hey digibyte.  been mining at coinium and since the new diff took place the diff has been all over the place.  never consistant.  it will go from 8 to 9 then jump to 12 to 15 then back now to 7.  cna you explain as to why it does this.  and im getting much more rejects with this new diff change.  plz explain.

Probably he is talking about shares reject.. How is that connected to the coin?
We have not noticed an increase in rejects. We have, however, noticed an increase the amount of coins we mine as the diff/reward is more consistent that before when we would be "stuck" for a few hours following a large hash down swing.

Yes there are some big jumps and dips in the difficulty. Its suppose to do that with big up or down turns in net hash. It is far more responsive to net hash changes then the Kimoto Gravity well. Which be by the way, we found could still get "stuck" for awhile with a large hash down turn. It also can get isntamined for awhile with a large hash increase.

We now have the most responsive difficulty retarget system of any coin out there. It litterally only takes 2-4 blocks to adjust to a doubling of the net hash or a massive downswing.

Does anyone know who runs the Digi Tools block explorer? http://digitools.pw/chain/DigiByte

They need to update to DigiByte v2.0 DigiShield!
hey ,guys ,we need stable net hash ,how we can make it stable、?

We have no control over when someone adds or takes away their hash. The hash has been within a stable range.
sometimes 1500+,but sometimes 500+,that's ~~~~~~i dont know how to explain,feel it ~
There first few hours people were trying to figure out if there was an "xploit" they could take advantage of. The hash is more stable now verus the first few hours.

Check out the awesome chart on coinium to see: http://digi.coinium.org/

Before DigiShield took effect the same hash swings occurred, accept now we are not "stuck" for 2-3 hours and the difficulty adjusts within a couple blocks to hash swings both up and down.

We tested over 50 different configurations over the course of 5 days including the Kimoto Gravity Well and other approaches. The DigiShield configuration out performed all other configurations and is essentially a sum of what we learned and applied from other setups.

"xploit"...
That was a low hanging joke, wasn't it?  Wink

Don't tell xploited. Smiley

What do you think our next move should be. What do you as the community want to see happen with DigiByte next? In your opinion where should we focus our efforts this coming week now that we have resolved the multi pool issue and reduced the reward?
