is launch today?
We have ran into some more issues with groestl and the mining pool. We are close to getting things figured out. We apologize for the delay but we want to make sure everything is good to go!

@Kayahoga

Do you have a link to the specific sgminer they used?
1143  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ DigiShield ✔ v2.9.1 ✔ Multi-Algo mining coming soon! on: July 11, 2014, 09:31:30 PM
Will we need a special miner ( or kernel )  for the new algorithm?  For instance, there is myriad-groestl for the Groestl algorithm, will there be a digibyte-groestl ?

Also, will the single pool handle every algorithm?  Or is there a separate pool for each algorithm.

A special thanks to the DigiByte team, really looking forward to the new changes!

A single pool will be able to handle all algorithms. A separate miner will be required for every algorithm. We will release a detailed guide on how to mine and what is needed when we release the update.

We have 4/5 algos working properly but we are in the process of switching out Groestl. Groestl was working on the network but after a few days we have been un-able to get it to work correctly on a mining pool. We are swamping for Keccack to see if things will improve so we can get the update rolled out.

Stay tuned!

I followed the devs from Diamond Coin for quite awhile and when they changed their algo to Groestl they had a ton of issues with pool mining and I think in the end a special kernel was created for sgminer.    I am pretty sure it was problems with stratum since everyone could solo mine.  I think somewhere around page 34 on https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=580725.660 they talk about it, look for posts by Danbi, I think he helped with the kernel if I remember correctly.  It could all be totally different but if its sounding familiar check it out.

Hope it helps...
This sounds very familiar as we are able to solo mine but stratum is not submitting valid blocks to the daemon. Thanks for posting! We will check it out!

I know if everything is moving to Keccack then the train has already started in that direction but I was really looking forward to using Groestl, I love how efficient it is on the gpus and how much power it saves.  I haven't looked into how much power Keccack uses in comparison, I thought it was a little less than running scrypt on my 280x.  Does anyone have any good articles about Keccack performance on GPUs ( power consumption, optimized miners, graphics card efficiency etc. ) ?
We would love to find out more info about this as well!

@digibyte

what are the plans for nautliscoin?

do they also update to the new algo-ritme ?
Nautilus is switching to POS. They will not be implementing multi-algo.

What is merged mining launch ETA?
We are not merge mining with any coin. We are updating to multi-algorithm mining.

how is Multi-Algo now ....
what's the dev plan?
To give everyone an update:

We have set the mining pool up to organize a large scale final test. We had planned on doing this last night but we are still experiencing an issue with 1 of the algos we are trying to work out. We hope to wrap this up today / tonight. Then we will do a 24 hour test which we will invite everyone to participate in. Then hopefully release the updated wallet by Saturday/ Sunday.

Then we we will have to give everyone a couple weeks to update before the specific block of the switch kicks in.

For those who have been concerned about some of the issues with DigiShield we wanted to re-post what we just posted in the Nautilus forum:

Current Difficulty   2130  Shocked Shocked

That will take some time to find the next block, or some multipool needs to hit it.

Mining diff up to 2840. I really hope that proof of stake bug gets fixed really soon. My earlier statement looks potentially accurate, this keeps up with as long as blocks are taking to be solved, at the point of that bug being fixed "the next block" after review and fixing could really be the fork block.
Why is the difficulty going up? It should drop off when things like this happens, as that's the whole point of Digishield  Undecided

It's been well established that Digishield is a bit buggy. But ultimately since Proof of Stake is just around the corner, Digishield fixing isn't as much a priority. However, I'm sure other coins that decide to make use of it will have the issue resolved.

DigiShield by itself is fine, especially with the amplitude DigiFilter applied. DigiShield + 0.9.1 Bitcoin core update + Scrypt ASICs is the problem. We are updating this in the next DigiByte update when we switch to multi-algo mining.

Bitcoin is actually having some issues as well since the 0.9.1 protocol update that no one is talking about and the Bitcoin core dev team is ignoring when you ask them.

Look at this chart to see the average Bitcoin block time is now around 8 Min instead of 10 Min since the 0.9.1 core update on April 8th: https://blockchain.info/charts/avg-confirmation-time

We are experiencing the same issue as NAUT. We are the only coins with 0.9.1 + DigiShield. We live and we learn, & we should of tested it better and it goes to show we cant rely on the Bitcoin core dev team to be perfect. Smiley The 0.9.1 core update was not around when we initially developed DigiShield.

Good news is much fewer coins are in circulation for the short term. DigiShield still prevents multi-pool attacks & too many coins being produced to quickly, but a bit sluggishly at the moment. We are very much looking toward the future success of both coins and we cant wait to see POS implemented for NAUT. Cheers!

Jared,
Would you kindly provide a bit of in depth technical information on a) the problematic symptoms digishield is experiencing under the 0.9.1 codebase and b) What is the root cause of it and, if possible at the moment, c) how it will be solved?

Also, is Dogecoin for example experiencing anything similar now that they have switched to the 0.9(.1?) codebase?

Thank you.
Doge is not seing the same problem for two reasons. A) They implemented an additional filter. B) Their net hash is much hire. There was a change in 0.9.1 we were unaware of that calculates difficulty differently. This has caused Bitcoin block times to go down to 8 minutes, and our block times to be significantly longer.  We are still looking to see if any other code is effecting things.

For those who have asked us why we wont implement "dark" completely anonymous transactions into DigiByte, please look here:

http://www.coindesk.com/isis-bitcoin-donations-fund-jihadist-movements/

This will be why governments put the hammer down on coins like Darkcoin etc.

Keep up the great work. Anything non-devs can do to help out?

Please keep spreading the word about DigiByte, bump this thread when you can with an insightful topic and please feel free to contribute any marketing materials, images, write ups or blog posts to help people learn about DigiByte.

The more of a community base we can build the better. Also here shortly we would like to organize a large scale test of the multi-algo update. So a hash donation for a couple hours would be great!

Has anyone discovered any new interesting mining algorithms or coin disbursement methods? We just discovered POD (Proof of Dividend) and the RAMHOG algo.

Well, Jared has written so often that "great things are around the corner for DGB". But when will we see something of this great things?
Of course we can't expect everything to happen within 4 weeks, but we are waiting for months now and other coin devs get their job done in far shorter timeframes.

Greetings Everyone,

We wanted to give everyone an update as we can see people are getting restless and the trolls are now coming out from under the bridge. We have a lot of stuff happening in the background right now & we are working very hard to get some major things rolling to take DigiByte to the next level.

We have been working on the multi-algo mining pool as well as putting finishing touches on the multi-algo update. We also have started work on the trading platform. Over the course of the last two weeks we have had several high level meetings and have been completely swamped while traveling as well as trying to do development work.

Our trip to Hong Kong for Inside Bitcoins and our journey into mainland China went very well for DigiByte. We have made friendships & partnerships to help give DigiByte a strategic global advantage over most other coins that will be leveraged in the near future.

At this point there has only been two of us that have been able to work full time on DigiByte. Others on the team have helped when they can.
Meeting with investors, merchants and others all the while trying to roll out a big update as well as maintaining a solid social media presences is a lot for two people to take on. Especially while traveling in a foreign country like China. We have since been actively going outside of the crypto world to recruit other developers, marketing professionals etc to help us out and we invite other developers and people to come on board if you believe in what we are trying to accomplish.

We have also been instructed by our main DigiPay investors to not divulge to much information until we are absolutely ready to roll. We don't want to let our competitors know exactly what we are up to right now. Plus we have signed an NDA. Things in the professional business world don't happen over night.

We agree we need to get things done as fast as possible right now and things are moving very fast in the crypto world. But we feel as long as we keep working hard toward our original goal of becoming a worldwide payment system for micro transactions we will achieve long term success.

As stated many times before we are in this for the long haul. We are now back home and getting back in the routine swing of things so our number one priority is to get the multi-algo update out and to make sure it works. We have tested it quite a few times but we wanted to organize a large scale test though a multi-algo mining pool. We want to make sure we have mining infrastructure in places when we roll out the update.

Thanks for your patience and support! Stay tuned for more updates over the next few days and lets take DigiByte to the moon!

Hey DigiByte Devs, check this out:

"ExpressCoin, which we’ve covered in the past, is a Bitcoin commerce startup that’s aiming to make Bitcoin transactions accessible to people without technical expertise or conventional bank accounts. The creators of the platform hope to achieve this by offering a variety of easy methods of payments, including personal checks and cash, and maintaining a full-time support staff to help non-technical users access features of the platform. The platform currently supports Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Litecoin, BlackCoin, and DarkCoin, and plans to support more Altcoins in the future."

Thanks for posting this! We were unaware of this. We will check it out.
