1001  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: June 02, 2012, 09:54:42 PM
Please don't comment if your post doesn't bring anything new.

Like : "AT THIS POINT there is no hope left" and "I will sue you to death"

I'm watching this thread closely and am tired of people with little to loose making irrational threats.

This situation is beyond ridiculous and we all know it already.

I agree to go ahead with legal actions but please lets do so respectfully.

According to this they might have something: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=81045.msg922321#msg922321

Yeah saw that on "May 25,"

We can assume you have it, but you don't.  That's recomforting.
1003  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 100 (time sensitive request) on: June 01, 2012, 06:11:41 PM
Sorry for not wanting to read everything on the BTC100 project , but what is the status of these feature :

* Pledge to donate X bitcoins to Y organization when they agree to add Bitcoin donation option to their website.
Ex : donate 1.5btc to org1, 2btc to org2, 5btc to org3 , ect...
Then have this as a big publicly available table and organization would have an incentive to accept bitcoins.

* Having a mailing list setup so I can be noticed of new charities to donate to, (weekly / monthly)

I see no benefits to donate to the poors of this world, I am poor myself, and think our average bitcoiners arent wealthy enough to be annoyed with philanthropic request,
I though the goal of BTC100 was to promote the use of bitcoin as a donation platform.

The only things I see for donating to this organization is :  It has been posted on bitcointalk forum AND it is a very good cause.

What's going against it :
* I do not understand a word on their webpage, other than the "Make a free website with Yola" ads.

* What about a note in English saying, "THIS WEBSITE IS WRITTEN IN *****" < language.

To sum up, this is such a small scale project, I don't see how hard it would be for them to accept bitcoin, (given the burden is usually at the administrative level)
1004  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BitForce SC - full custom ASIC on: May 30, 2012, 08:16:44 AM
I don't know what is considered throw-away money but a device with a price around 200$ max would create lots of impulsive small sales.

Decentralization is not only good for security it's also needed for greater adoption via fair initial distribution.

BTW, I don't think Bitcoin's community's IQ benefited much from the hoard of gamers / miners.

I have been using BAMT for a long time and can say with confidence that any brand of USB key will end up with the "no free space" bug.

The difference between a good and a bad USB key is that the bad one will not allow you to format / re-image it.

I also wish to install on HDD, but I now have a fast reimaging procedure as a work-around.

Sometime this bug will have for symptoms to have one or more gpu not working, with output such as "no screen to look at (~alike)"

While on the subject ...
Code:
There is no screen to be resumed matching gpu0.

(one is fast and unreliable, the other slow and reliable).
It's hard to choose when how unreliable isn't well known other than ,,, an X month old log.  And when "slow" is defined as waiting for a good mood from the hacker. (who supposedly hated bitcoinica)

So if very unreliable and possibly infinitely slow, I suggest you pay out a safe % to those who had the most assets.  Starting with accounts linked to users with an established reputation on the forum, you could get back BTC in the unlikely event that you overpaid.

Debian connection lost problem,

Is there a bug report for this on debian's forums ?

I would say this has happened / happening on 2/5 of my rigs,

It basically just boils down the network-manager package.  This software has a bug that seems to effect some systems, just google around and you'll find lots of ubuntu users with the exact same issue.  I didn't find any clear explanations or what the proper fix is in a quick search.  It does seem to be limited to certain network cards.

rather than removing the network manager entirely (as suggested by the external link), if someone finds an actual fix that would be preferable.
removing the network manager will remove the issue, but it will take away your ability to configure wireless networks (and wired) using the easy gui, so you'll have to edit the network config files by hand.  not a big deal if you know how to do that, but not an ideal "fix" in any case.

The first contribution of this paper is to analyze the aging impact of TDDB, EM and HCE on Xilinx style FPGAs using a set of MCNC benchmarks. Our results show that a significant portion of the FPGA resources may fail in the first 3 to 5 years of operation.

Shocked OMG I didn't knew MTTF could be that low.

It's hard to get clear data on ASIC's MTTF.

It's not planned obsolescence. We're basically stress testing these cards 24-7 for a year on end. Build out of warranty failures into your business plan, purchase extended warranties, etc. Your rationalization is ridiculous.
+1.
I consider it sort of lucky that the manufacturers still warranty the cards at all, considering the torturous non-typical usage we put them through.  I would imagine there's some sort of "normal use" clause in their warranty contract that they could utilize if they wanted to.
What is abnormal playing video games 24/365 ?

Seriously, I don't think because it's used mostly by gamers that our use of it is abnormal.  ATI state mining as a feature of their card on their website.

It would never come to my mind that an intel CPU would not perform it's job for centuries, how is this so different ?

I am personally monitoring my cards to make sure temps are never out of range, fan is ok, and heatsink is clean, ~65c in open air.   I think these are better working condition than a gamer with a poor ventilated case that leave heatsink get clogged with dust .

Do you need more people to help move them to a more appropriate place?
I spend an ungodly amount of time on this forum, and am usually not doing much else...  Except procrastinating school work  Tongue

Please report them whenever you see them. This is very helpful.

Report them! Or find yourself a girlfriend. (on or off topic?)
reviving month old thread... WTF was I following this ?

This is no good since you cannot use extenders to widen the space between the cards.

There are plenty of example in the Picture thread.

Expect a cost of ~15$ total for a good DIY getto setup.
