941  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GUIDE - Make your own open frame rig. on: June 29, 2012, 06:51:50 AM
Funny how OP full size pictures make it's post 27mb.

Warning, building such GPU rigs at this time ? ; I suggest you consider their future profitability before investing time and $ into it.

Mining speculation would discuss scenario to the mining ecosystem, (the discutions possiblility are endless, )  Take for example : The mining market balance https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=88766.0

Good idea. Done.

I'm against the split, but it should be FPGA/ASIC, custom is too vague

What topics count as "custom hardware" that shouldn't be in this section?

Its just non-obvious.
Custom could also be defined as dedicated.

Granted FPGA chips are polyvalent but their implementation make them dedicated miners.
943  Other / Meta / Re: Separate messages ASIC and FPGA already! on: June 29, 2012, 05:13:11 AM
I would also add a GPU section because free electricity kids will be mining on their high end GPU to the end of time and will forever to be an annoyance to the community.  (sorry to sound ageist)
944  Other / Meta / Re: Separate messages ASIC and FPGA already! on: June 29, 2012, 05:08:04 AM
I don't like the idea of creating "Speculative" or "BFL" sections, as they are very specific to this situation. I want sections to be more general.

I don't follow the mining scene at all anymore. What FPGA mining hardware and ASIC mining hardware is available now, and what are the fundamental differences between these two technologies? I don't remember why this section is called "FPGA" rather than "ASIC" (which is better-suited for mining IIRC) or just "custom hardware".
Why ? becasue the subject related to GPUs, fpga, and asics are far from being the same.

Gpu = general computing
Fpga = soldering, programing
Asic = big business, VLSI, chip manufacturing, licensing

There is no reason to add an ASIC sub beside FPGA as there is a reason to name one CPU, other than for historical reasons.

You should rename FPGA to Custom Hardware / development right now and ponder on adding a "Mining speculation" sub.

Mining speculation would discuss scenarios of the mining ecosystem, (the discutions possiblility are endless, )  Take for example : The mining market balance https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=88766.0

945  Other / Off-topic / Re: Has BFL yet to even state how they will be shipping these ASICS ? on: June 29, 2012, 04:49:34 AM
Maybe this thread should be deleted? There are so many BFL threads and this isn't adding anything.
It does not answer my question yet : What's the threshold to be or not included in the first ASIC shipping batch ?

One wouldn't hurry to tie his money to BFL unless he had the added incentive of being in the first batch shipped.

What is the size of this first batch ?
Right now a rough estimate tell me there is ~15Ths worth already paid for in BFL ASICs.

Will they be shipped all at once ?
If so, most all of the GPUs will be out of profitability range in less than a week. (at current price/diff)

Are you asking me to make a blog?

Quote
‘Processing pay outs’, yes. Yet another prompt reply. It seems you are so active on these forums, I wonder how you get the time of day with all this awful processing.

Yes, it was people in this thread asking for regular updates on payouts (which I'm giving). I cannot both be active, and not be active in giving updates.
947  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Actual Bitcoinica Updates ... only on: June 28, 2012, 11:45:10 PM

49 days later... still looking at a big fat 0

I felt like a fool for trusting Bitcoinica with my money & I still feel like a fool for trusting Bitcoinica to refund my money.

I am not a small customer (5 digit USD currency account, 4 digit BTC currency account). I kept my own records. And most of it should be really easy to verify. For example I wired 10K USD to their CORE CREDIT bank account in NZ that cleared on May 09, 2012. No positions. Why do I have to put up with all this 'soon' nonsense when Patrick, Donald and Zhou have confirmed my claim is accurate weeks ago?

(same here)
948  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Actual Bitcoinica Updates ... only on: June 28, 2012, 11:44:13 PM
Bitcoinica LP crew is definitely not businessmen at heart. Should have set up a blog, with daily updates, put adsense ad on it. They would by now make more money out that blog that it was stolen. LOL

This has got to be the stupidest post I've read. Why would be blogging instead of processing payouts? And putting ads on there? I'd rather not be a businessman then. Thanks for the bad advice.
949  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL FPGAs in temporary residence while waiting for ASICs ? on: June 28, 2012, 09:38:50 PM
...
Option 3) I have BFL send my FPGA to Inaba, and he mines it for me (with my credentials, at my pool of choice, for a fee). Then what? The rest is the same as Option 2? I can't have Inaba mine with my Single, and still transfer my order to 4 Jalapenos, can I?
Not sure I understand you,
It's all about saving cost on shipping and mining during otherwise transit time. You you wouldn't have to pay BFL send it to inaba and pay inaba to ship it back. You would but it'd be cheaper and faster.
950  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL FPGAs in temporary residence while waiting for ASICs ? on: June 28, 2012, 07:34:15 PM
How many people bought Singles and are not USA resident ?
?
Fixed your sentense

You might want to ask BFL,  I don't see why they would answer though.
951  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: June 27, 2012, 08:51:03 PM
I have a warning about 6.X.X being unsupported.  They will be supported in a future update.  If this is a problem, please use another client.

My apologies about a bug in address importing in 0.80.  If you are running Windows64 or Linux64, the links for the fixed versions are three posts up (version 0.81).  It should be completely fixed, there.  I will compile 32-bit binaries tonight.

Importing private keys is a wallet operation.  It has to go into a wallet.  I can perhaps add something to the menu that helps you find it, and then let you select a wallet after you click on it.

This software is not magical -- it's still a work in progress, and if there are features unavailable, then please use an alternative.  I do apologize for the lack of quality control on 0.80 -- this is why I need more people helping me test.  Please try 0.81, unless you absolutely need the Satoshi 6.X.X wallets.
I had high hope for this client and apart from that I'm not disappointed.

I've been watching a while for 6.00 import,  What is the best place to watch for update ? I see that the download page still show 0.80
952  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: June 27, 2012, 08:26:45 PM
I've tried using Armory, all of what I wanted failed.

importing Bitcoin-QT 6.xx fail ,,, well that's highly needed.

Importing private key / address,  : It would loop endlessly at asking me, "is this address accurate - yes", I type password to decrypt wallet , loop
It wouldn't say password fail or anything, anyhow I'm pretty sure of the password, I've just created / entered it ~4 times.

And finding "import private key" wasn't were I expected it, "Wallet properties" really ?  Maybe it could be part of receive bitcoin.

Thanks for this great client.
953  Other / Meta / Re: Watchlist on: June 27, 2012, 06:13:27 AM
I'd find "This will add all topics you've enabled notification in to your watchlist." more useful to me,
[DO IT]

This is awesome,

Oh I just made the mistake to click add all posted to watchlist, 8 page of topic to load one by one, Now my suggestion would be to have an icon in watchlist view, beside (last post) or left side for faster unwatching.

Ok now, dudes that are not missing a single dime shall piss off and let the crew work. Go and publish your conspiracies in another thread. Here, we care about being paid back only....

You might want to subscribe to this locked thread instead to avoid the casual useless posts.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=89782.0

I'm re-posting (within an hours) every Genjix and phantomcircuit post related to Bitcoinica.
I might also post relevant posts made by other users (to my discretion).

956  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Actual Bitcoinica Updates ... only on: June 26, 2012, 08:55:25 PM
I am supposed to only give out the status for emails. Accounts are in 3 states:

- Fake. This is a minority of accounts so far we are certain are impostors.
- Accurate. At my last count, this was around 1 in 20 (5%). Only a portion of these has been paid so far. Still working through paying these people back (I don't have access to funds personally. It works like Donald gets a portion and does them in chunks at a time with proper authorisation from Tihan and Patrick).
- Queued. Majority of claims are in the queue waiting to be examined. Around half (a guess) of claims I believed were accurate, and various fakes got pushed back into the "lets examine then later category". Most simply haven't been looked at yet.

The idea is to sort out claims with the highest certainty (this means quicker payouts), then as you work down, you reconcile them with other payments. I know people here are congratulating me, but I've actually been a hindrance for the claims process. Several times, I caused some mix-ups and confusion so Donald hands me batches/tasks to complete at a time.

...  Most level headed people are willing to be patient as long as they don't get the sense that they're being completely ignored.  Though, on the other hand, I understand that the backlog and workload is pretty heavy and that time responding to emails and posting on the forum is time away from processing claims.  But then, perhaps a post with a bit more detail about all that would have helped.  In any event, my gratitude to the work Amir and the rest of them have been doing.  I have no doubt this is stressful and difficult, and you're getting a lot of shit in return.   Undecided
+1

mlawrence, call the police. I will cooperate fully.

Also, it wasn't our staff that lost the backups. Zhou was admining the site, and he had no backups. One of our responsibilities would have been to create a backup system after the takeover.

... I've been researching Donald's username on that forum, Do he post here ? if so what is it ?

He doesn't interact much with the community. He sometimes uses the nickname Incitatus on IRC.

Take it to a different thread. This is for payment updates.

My identity has been public since day 1 of Bitcoin. Our pictures and identities are on the front of intersango.com. Our company info is on the about page which has a number and address. My house address is on google. We've run many honest services for 2 years now in bitcoin land. Your post = FUD and smear. Take it to a different thread as I want to keep this thread for simple payment updates and answering people's legitimate concerns.
