746  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: [Open thread] Bitcoin Conference 2012- London 15-16 Sept on: August 27, 2012, 04:21:31 PM
Following last posts,

Did anyone notice that intersango, the second most successful criminally incompetent boobs in the history of bitcoin is still printed on the face of the tickets as a sponsoring supporter?

Caveat emptor... if you participate in this conference you are buying in to the belief that bitcoin users are your personal pool of fools and dupes to take advantage of, and supporting those who would take advantage of them.

"Incompetent boobs " ok, but from what I understand, They don't think they're criminal yet and believe in their innocence the the point of attending public events like the London Bitcoin Conference.
As of the late, Amir claimed they shouldn't have started processing payout at all but unfortunately refuse to explain who is then responsible for doing so.  They took no responsibility in the last 40k+ BTC hack saying creditors would have to take a 30% hit to cover this. (Very sad and irresponsible)

I wish the other people responsible (Zhou, Tihan/wendon group) could provide us with proofs, such as signed document showing how did they transfer the responsibility to them and check if the customers have been informed sufficiently and allowed a reasonable delay to disagree and withdraw their funds.

AFAIK not a single email was sent to users related to ownership change.

.............
Bitcoinica is all in the hands of business people and lawyers now. The reason I took a long hiatus is because it was seriously effecting my mental health. Several people started to tell me to take time out, but I wouldn't listen to them. Eventually it got too much, and I took their advice. I would've been a broken person unable to do anything otherwise. ...

...  I think it would be a necessity for you to make well though of post summarizing your involvement in Bitcoinica BEFORE the conference, ...
Although Intersango has "indirectly" taken a limited responsibility by retuning funds they could not bother informing their customers of anything past 2012-06-17.  They also refuse to communicate coherently on the forum (their only mean of public communication).

The reason they now to hide behind for stopping all communication is supposedly because four (4) creditors have filled a lawsuit against them.

Ps: I'm using Intersango loosely to mean Bitcoin Consultancy team.  (Patrick Strateman, Donald Norman , Amir Taaki)
747  Bitcoin / Meetups / [Open thread] Bitcoin Conference 2012- London 15-16 Sept on: August 27, 2012, 03:59:14 PM
For some reason the original thread was locked without any notice.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=67199.0

This new thread was made to discuss and ask question about the Conference openly.
748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin client upload saturating my DSL connection. (No bandwidth throttling ?) on: August 25, 2012, 08:50:01 PM
Just disable upnp and/or stop forwarding the bitcoin port from your router, this limits you just listening to 8 connections.
Currently I leave the client closed and when I want to make a transaction it take as little as 2 min to catch up.  I prefer to broadcast my transaction to 60+ connection than 8.

Given how trivial to implement is what I ask please stop the OS / router patches recommendation . Thank you.
749  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Goal of Bitcoin (in general)? on: August 25, 2012, 07:22:03 AM
Having an extensive ignore list help a lot my readings here.

Taking a plunge at /Speculation/ from time to time is the best for finding new users to ignore.
750  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin client upload saturating my DSL connection. (No bandwidth throttling ?) on: August 25, 2012, 12:31:58 AM
In linux you can use a tool called "trickle" to limit your bandwidth like this:

Code:
trickle -u50 bitcoind

That will limit its upload to 50kb/s
Sorry but what about adding a way to set connection limiting setting of bitcoin.conf to the UI ?

This is ridiculously weird.

And NO I am not editing my conf file nor am I going to install Linux for this.

Thanks HeavyMetal for trying to help
751  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: August 24, 2012, 10:54:28 PM
Funny thing is, unless you're colluding with pirate, you've made it harder for him to repay even if he wanted to. There never were 500 000 BTC, so the only way he can get out of it in a way that would let you win is to fear all the real creditors into selling their accounts at a very low price. By letting people hedge you have made that more expensive.
Selling an account at lower price to someone else other than pirate40 doesn't lower the amount he has to pay.
752  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why I don't think Pirate will default on: August 24, 2012, 06:28:56 AM
...
...Additionally, Pirate@40 runs a reportedly successful business in GPUMAX, profits from which would disappear if Pirate@40 chooses to vanish.

GPUMAX is much more complex and bigger a project than Satoshi Dice.

This show some cleverness.
753  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Here's where I spew my accusations against MPOE. All are welcome. on: August 23, 2012, 05:51:43 PM
I think he wanted to divert from Pirate40 drama with this stupidity.
I don't think he succeeded, Matthew did well though.

SD IPO surely succeeded in scaring serious investors aways from bitcoin.
So much face-palm in a row my brain hurts.
754  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pirate is going to build a Tesla Science Center! on: August 23, 2012, 07:24:19 AM
Wow! That would have been an awesome charity.
755  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Do not bet with Matthew N. Wright without an escrow on both sides on: August 23, 2012, 04:07:56 AM
escrow ? what is it you don't understand ?

The escrow is the public log of the thread, the enforcement method is bitcointalk/online reputation.

Why would you need an escrow on your side ?

757  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Bitcoin Savings & Trust - Money Returned List (zero Monday, none reported Tues). on: August 22, 2012, 07:06:39 AM
I'm not sure what the average hashrate of GPUMax is when public work is available, but I would imagine it's considerable. GPUMax also pays out daily, but it's not unusual for there to be a couple day delay before payments are made. If Pirate was about to take off with all the money, it would make sense for him to provide 100% public work for 3 or 4 days that points towards his own private pool. He would get a decent bonus of untraceable coins to add to his tally.

Lol, so suckers gave him $5 million in BTC and they are also mining coins for him?  He has it all figured out.  Genius!

If you just heard about GPUMAX please STFU.

Huh? It is not like all of us have time to read every single thread on this board and chase down references to everything around here.  harsh.
It is not like any of us have time to read every brainfarts posts.  This place is sickening,
758  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Bitcoin Savings & Trust - Money Returned List (zero Monday, none reported Tues). on: August 22, 2012, 06:58:07 AM
I am trying to understand the logic of lenders... if they get all their coins back but a bitcoin is devalued from this month's highs by 100-200%, then what was the point of lending it out?
Huh

Given the risk there is little logic,  My guess is they didn't expect to all be paid at once,  Anyway, wanting more coin has nothing to do with USD trading values.
