661  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why do people trust Casascius so much? on: September 26, 2012, 08:18:15 PM
I always though of it as a novelty item and have enough imagination to feel I'm holding one.

I cannot understand why someone would be risking 1000btc on this though.

Even if he ever runs of with my bitcoins, it will still have been worth it just for the coins.
... Just something to have and give and it will probably never be redeemed.
...
I think you have a business model here. (fiat)
662  Economy / Speculation / Re: Shipped ASICs = Bitcoin goes down? on: September 25, 2012, 11:07:33 PM
Why are we assuming that difficulty jumps have any effect on price?
Cost more to produce, increased security, ... Among others !!!
663  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL's plan B has started on: September 25, 2012, 09:48:30 PM
Anyone noticed it? Facebook CGI pics, iteration on the forums, events so that they make you lose time discussing who has the right to go on their HQ, etc.

Why have they started to care only now?
What are they afraid of? What changed? Was that the strategy since the beginning?

Maybe it has to do with all the BS in this thread and suggestion #1 of this post.

If enough customer pledge on canceling their orders based of this uncertainty and BFL think they would make more money by allowing an independent 3rd party inspector to survey their operations. Then chance are they might do so and as a customer we might even want to finance it.
(Remember how Inaba was sent to report on our collective behalf ?)

Please don't make new topics if you have nothing but vague question to ask.

2, about payment: confirmed accept bitcoins and wire-transfer, and bitcoins will have much higher priorities. credit card is still considering (expect the possibility and BUY bitcoins if you intend to order).
...
Does the above mean BTC payments will ship before wire transfer payments?

If so why? Wire transfers are hard unredemable cash, so generally I'd assume those payments should be high on the priority list, or at least equal to BTC...
...
That's exactly what he said : "confirmed accept bitcoins and wire-transfer will have much higher priorities."

In term of priority, Wires take much longer so I don't see how you could get in the queue faster than with a BTC transfer.

Hey guys, maybe we should have some technical questions, so we don't turn this session into a 100% witch hunting meeting.

I would like to know:

1. Details on the delivery of first ASICs
- are they still scheduled for end of October?
- what are the risks to delivery dates? (i.e. we are waiting for some shipments that might or might not come) and what's the impact (will put us 2 weeks/months/years behind schedule)
- is there a "cut-off" date for pre-orders? (aka a date after which the 1/3 shipping rule will no longer apply and is basically first come first served?)

2. Details on the future plans and products
- what's the warranty period for the SCs? (I really hope there is one ...)
- any ASIC v.2 planned in near future or full focus on production?

Thanks.

Your answers can be found everywhere with a tool called search Smiley. They have been answered multiple times.

5 question, Could you give me the 5 search term to enter were these are answered clearly in the first few results ?

Thanks, not everyone is reading all BFL related threads.
674  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: "Avalon" ASIC, announcement & pre-order start. VERY important notice updated on: September 22, 2012, 08:57:47 AM
ngzhang is a good guy. But the trouble with these 100% funded pre-orders is the potential for total loss, whether on purpose (scam) or not (accidental). I would consider paying a small downpayment, but I'm not paying for a non-existent product.

+1 A small downpayment of maybe 10% would be acceptable for each unit ordered. I'm almost certain you'd get orders in the hundreds more than if you had people pay in full if you did it this way. You'd also boost your reputation, become hero of the small time miners in establishing healthy business practices again, and could possibly win over many of the BFL customers for giving them a viable alternative.
It's 100% refundable.  People charge 20% down on part orders, 25% for restocking fee, 50% on contractor jobs, this also require development from an experienced team, nearly at production cost.

They're 150% of BFL at 1300$, I don't think 1999$ will stand though.

Will you accept MtGox codes for payments ?

I've already sold my BTCs in preparation of a big sell off.

19 hours to go  ... Cheesy

677  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: butterfly labs is definitely mining with those ASICs at the moment on: September 22, 2012, 07:50:27 AM
...
The fact is: With selling the units as "pre-orders" the units technically belong to the customer at all times (?, needs to be confirmed by a lawyer). BFL is offering a quality control before the unit ships. The problem is that the unit creates profit during that time: Who is the rightful owner of this profit? The owner of the hardware (customer) or the person who operates it (BFL)?

@Inaba: You really have to clarify this point, otherwise expect someone to sue BFL about this point.
...
Wow you guy like to make drama out of nothing.   "BFL to be sued over profiting from QC ?" OMG !

The thing is ; No-matter how many good advices you give them on how to QC their products fairly you'd have no way of enforcing said policy.

  • If enough customer pledge on canceling their orders based of this uncertainty and BFL think they would make more money by allowing an independent 3rd party inspector to survey their operations. Then chance are they might do so and as a customer we might even want to finance it.
(Remember how Inaba was sent to report on our collective behalf ?)

  • Another scenario is that out of 22 employee we could offer a collective bounty for any of them to anonymously release proof of private mining with customer's hardware.  (I herein pledge 10 btc)

  • It's also possible that BFL wouldn't risk bad PR if they foresaw creating next generation products. (the world doesn't end at ~100nm process)

  • Or we might as well show some trust in their good faith.

I showed them my trust by pre-ordering and I expect to be respected in return.
Unfortunately, I think not spreading FUD is the cheapest thing I can afford to protect my investment.

@OP/Desolator,  I think it's definitely time you edit this FUDdy title. !!!

....
I was specifically asking someone from BFL. The price is not the only thing adjustable.
I would guess they have better to do than making-up strategies and share them with the public about a product that will ship next year, while they haven't shipped theirs already.
679  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: September 22, 2012, 03:40:16 AM
My armory.exe 0.82.2a process use 1,346,720K in RAM

I have only one wallet with 2 transaction, Could the size of the bitcoin client wallet have something to do with it ?

Edit : I had it go to 1385mb by clicking a few menu. It would add ~2-5 mb per clicked menu and doesn't really come down.

Edit2 : Startup = 1minute, ram rise steadily to 1332mb, IO 70mb/s

Might be normal, but quite heavy compared to bitcoin-qt's 100mb.
