221  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why are people cheering that ASICMINER will bring 800-1000TH online this year? on: July 01, 2013, 01:57:37 PM
An illusion of decentralized hashing power isn't worth shit either.

I am confident Friedcat is greedy enough not crash the market by doing double-spends.
222  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Official CaVirtex.com Thread on: June 30, 2013, 03:14:17 PM
A BTC exchange with "temporarily disabled BTC functionality"

I have a relatively large amount of BTCs stuck in the middle of nowhere and would like an ETA.

Ps: You could at least have disabled the withdrawal links if you knew it wouldn't work. (not everyone is reading the news section)

Our latest update caused an unexpected error that temporarily disabled BTC functionality. Rest assured that all pending BTC deposits are all still valid and will appear once we resolve the issue. BTC withdrawals are also unavailable during this time. We will keep you updated.
225  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Project "Bitcoin No Noise" on: June 27, 2013, 10:13:09 PM
Also, I know MNW is banned though not sure for how long.  I wouldn't expect him to be responding to stuff here anytime soon.
Sigh. With MNW it's always two steps forward, two steps back.
Matthew, I think it's time to admit you have a problem and enroll in Trollers Anonymous.
What was he banned for?
I've been around this forum for long enough to say, the reason MNW has a high ignore count is unknown to me and is puzzling.

Granted He has a a loud mouth and often make bold statement to generate attention but overall the large majority of his posts were made with genuine, forward looking and good intentions.

The ratio of Bitcoin's complexity and potential VS. popularity and noise is getting out of hands.
I will support any initiative that try to improve the effectiveness of communications on the Internet.

Fun fact : The ignore color feature of this forum was funded as a bounty by me and MNW to the tune of 5 BTC each.
226  Other / Meta / Re: ... Company specific Child board in /Custom hardware/ on: June 23, 2013, 12:09:39 AM
Yeah, I don't like the idea of giving some companies their own sub forum.

^^^

It turns into bad precedent real fast, then what happens when a new company comes along?  They'll want their own section, and how is it determined who gets one and who doesn't?

How many chip producer are there ?

3 and two of them already have their website.

Sorry I had missed this discussion, Here's my view on it.

Sort by chip producer.

The many BFL chips integrator
The many Avalon chips integrator
ASICMINER
... To come.
......

Given how important mining is to the bitcoin ecosystem, how hard of a task it is to produce ASIC chips and how much discussion is being generated by each of them I think the community could only benefits from allowing company specific boards.

Requirements :
  • Being requested by company owner
  • Produce own chips
  • Proven working devices

Benefits vs creating own website :
  • Clean the parent /Custom hardware/ sub, making place for new development
  • Benefits from bitcointalk's reputation system.
  • Lower barrier of entry for customer support.
(not all business have the resources available to run a safe and functional forum)

232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] [PPC] ppcoin.org Marketplace on: June 20, 2013, 08:58:29 PM
With a reputation system it should work similar to the bitcoin-otc market.

Was thinking this might be more appropriately called a Classifieds Marketplace.
This should have been announced when completed.

Or when there is a benefit to using it.

Take Weexchange CAD/BTC pair,  It has an awesome interface, it has no trade fee, lowest cost / fastest interac transfer ($).

In fact it's better than every other canadian exchange.  Nobody use it because,,,, nobody used it.

This PPC market has been burned, almost nobody who went to look into it in it's current state will never come back to see it ever.

THE FEES, Do you realize the captchas you're asking us to solve cost us something,, too much, Personally I'd rather pay 50c then to bend by brain trying to read these.

This is a failure on so many level I wonder why it hasn't affected the PPC price, maybe it just couldn't go much lower.

Good idea,  Hopefully a 3rd party service will corner the market with a better auction UI at some point.

I wonder why bitmit isn't catching up.
237  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] First 500Gh/s BFL unit up and running! on: June 19, 2013, 01:09:26 AM
500 GH/s? I will be seriously impressed with BFL if/when they are actually able to start shipping these bastards.

Anyone selling in hand units? I'll pay 10% over your pre-order price.   Grin Grin Grin
That'll be ~3000btc + 10% = 3300BTC.

At this price I'll even give you the 768 coupon code that came with it.

Pay to post get paid for quality post,

I think the community is ready for such an experiment.

It would also be a good example for how "in-house" bitcoin micro-transaction can improve and sanitize Internet interactions.

We can do it!
