With 4000 brass coins available, there can only be 200 holders of 1 roll each at maximum!

Do yourself a favor and buy the brass today.

The end of 2014 I put all my crypto wallets in cold storage and did not think about crypto until about two weeks ago. Circumstances of life took me to a place where even mobile phone service was a luxury, internet was a pipe-dream. It has been very interesting to step away from crypto for about 2 years and come back.

XMR was brought to my attention by Risto, whom I highly respect as one of the brightest minds on this forum. His posts about Bitcoin Distribution, the '(SSS) - A Sane and Simple bitcoin Savings' plan are brilliant and thought-provoking. I bought 55XMR at 0.004BTC, which is all I could afford, just before I left crypto in Sept. 2014. Since then the price of XMR has down to .001 and up to .025 and back again.

I was disappointed and pleasantly surprised at the same time. Pleased the price had appreciated, but disappointed that in 2 years so little seems to have been done in terms of adoption and software. Nothing seems to have really changed, XMR seems only to exist as a hedge to BTC(and has done it so well that it appears to have dethroned LTC) while daily usage has not really made any real headway. The wallet it still clunky, needing the daemon to be sync'ed before opening a barely improved wallet. Maybe I am being too harsh, but it has been over 2 years, not 2 months or even 6 months.

I was pleased to see that Risto, Smoothy, Icebreaker and a few old names are still here and supporters of XMR.

So in summary, over the past 2 days I have bought 945XMR at an average price of about .0104BTC. I am adding them to the 55XMR in my cold storage wallet.

My only question is... should I go away for another 2 years before checking on XMR again?

Sounds like a very interesting place you have been.

I would have to disagree that "daily usage has not made any real headway".

http://moneroblocks.info/stats/transactions/m/24

Improvements since end of 2014:
GUI is very close to being ready.
XMR.to (and shapeshift) allows you to easily spend your Monero at any BTC accepting place.
Mixin has now a network minimum of 2 improving privacy.
Viewkey works and is not just a concept.
Export key images with v.10 and check the balance of a cold wallet.
LMDB means you can run the wallet without sucking up all your RAM.
Ring CT in January.
Trezor implementation also workable but not exactly easy yet.

Probably more that I cannot remember, but XMR is far more usable than end of 2014.

I think it is very important to calm down people who are buying Moneros.
I've talked some people about Monero and they all seem to love it and thinking "I need to go all-in XMR".
We as early adopters have the moral responsibility to tell the (legitimate, not NRG's alter egos) newbies not to buy too many Moneros, only the amount they can afford to lose. If someone can afford to lose everything, then I guess all-in is the optimal strategy.
I hope people will listen to my advice.  Grin

Yes, it is best to use caution and average your buys in over a longer period of time. Think months, not days. If the price goes down, you get more XMR. If it goes up, then of course you don't have as many XMR if you went all-in, but nobody trades perfectly.

More importantly, if you buy a lot, just ask yourself "am i prepared to hold this indefinitely if the price drops 50% or even more?". If that idea makes you uncomfortable, buy less. You don't even have to believe this will be the outcome, but it is best to mentally prepare for all options.

The option I have difficulty preparing for is the selling part. Holding is easy.

Don't know if anybody mentioned it yet, but I noticed that Poloniex finally reduced XMR withdrawal fees from the ridiculous 0.2 XMR to 0.05 XMR.

Just in time.  Cheesy

what happens to my donation if the project fails to get funded?

It looks unlikely at this point that the project will not be fully funded. I plan to make a donation soon as well.

There doesn't seem to be a deadline for the time to receive donation funds, so I imagine Anonimal would continue working as they do now and eventually it would become fully funded.

I think if the project is abandoned by the developer, then the donated funds are reappropriated at the discretion of the core team. Probably they would remain set aside for work on Kovri. This happened for example with Trezor (roosmaa started working but quit, then NoodleDoodle took up the project and got the funds, hyc also got the solo miner working after someone else dropped out and got funds, etc).

Hey everyone are there any tweaks that can be done to get higher H/R besides hardware? Settings or parameters for Nvidia GPUs and intel cpu?

Also is this correct, the smaller the pool the longer time and higher rewards?

I have been using this miner for my NVIDIA GPUs, there is a small performance increase over the tsiv miner which hasn't been updated in 2 years.

And there are plenty more, just look yourself.

They *can* prove transfer by using this: http://xmr.llcoins.net/checktx.html

The sender would have to provide the tx viewkey and the transaction id, then there is no question.

i use xmr.to exchange yesterday but my btc did not arrive until now. anybody here we can contact for help? first time try for the exchange and having hard time to use the simple wallet make me confused. please help.
You a not alone...

Contact support@xmr.to with your order details and be patient. They will get back to you and solve the issue, it's long time community members but it's not their full time job.

I also had an issue with an XMR.to order yesterday, the site became unavailable after I created an order. I didn't notice this, so when I sent XMR it was not recognized and the order timed out.

Today seems to be fine, I've done two transactions that went through without a hitch.
89  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 01, 2016, 01:22:55 AM
Long term price will rebound but it is likely you will see .01 first. When there was good news and excitement about Monero why did the developers not take advantage of momentum and make releasing an official GUI wallet the top priority?

Catering to popular demand at the expense of quality is not a priority of Monero devs, and this is what differentiates Monero from the rest. GUI has been steadily in progress as well as other more important features like RingCT. It will come when it is ready.

GUI would not have done anything for the price, this is normal market behavior after breaching new territory. When BTC went from $2->32 and $10->266 and $100->1150 did it just stay there?

Monero broke a long term resistance and reached new ATH, now we find where the new bottom is. But it will take time, months likely.

Installed CUDA 8 on Ubuntu 16.04.1 and my sporadic CPU validation nonce errors went away with GTX 950.

I had some trouble at first, but use gcc 5.4 when you are installing the NVIDIA drivers and CUDA 8, then switch back to gcc 4.8 when compiling ccminer.

Can you provide how-tos on installing cuda 8 and the nvidia drivers? The link in my sig is all ubuntu 14 and cuda 5 or 6 or something....

did this make the 950 perform any better?

Yeah, I'll post a step by step guide over the weekend.

It didn't give me any noticeable hashrate improvements but I figure the errors going away improve my submitted shares (maybe?).

Made it further - needed to tweak BIOS settings to recognize the GPU.

Anyway I am now in CUDA territory...I am beginning to wonder if I should have stuck with Ubuntu 14.04 since there is plenty of documentation there.

I get this error when trying to compile ccminer

Nevermind - got it!

New to mining, old to XMR...hi.

I bought a GTX 950 and I'm trying to make it work on Ubuntu 16.04 with no luck (just won't boot).

I have installed the correct drivers from the nvidia PPA. (i get a kernel error when trying the proprietary installer.)

I also tried what was listed in this guide to no avail.
http://my30daysoflinux.blogspot.com/2015/10/installing-nvidia-gtx-950-drivers-in.html

Does anyone have some experience with this setup? Any advice would be appreciated!

Question in regards it to a cold wallet, moneroaddress.

When depositing coins to your cold wallet, you can check to see if you received them. You just have to enter the view key, public address, and tx id on xmr.llcoins.

Now, how can I check if there have been any transactions since you've initially deposited them? Verifying that there hasn't been a hack on your wallet>
There is currently no easy way to do this. However, in the future there might:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/51i0n7/solved_it_hopefully_heres_how_we_can_make_the/
What would be the best currently available (though not easy) way to do this?

First, you'd have to fully sync the blockchain on an online computer. Second, copy simplewallet, bitmonerod, and the blockchain to an USB and plug that into the offline computer. Third, use bitmonerod in offline modus (--offline flag) and it should use the blockchain you have already synced on the online computer. Fourth, use --restore-deterministic-wallet to create a wallet with your seed offline. Lastly, use refresh to sync your wallet. It will refresh up to the last block you have synced online. It should then show all the transactions (both incoming and outgoing) of your offline wallet up to that block.

That's quite an ordeal. I think someone (moneromooo?) was working on a way of getting the key image from a transaction so you can check the spent status using Moneroblocks API... (like Luigi's coin checker)

proride, it sounds like the inherent properties of CKG (voting rights, dividends) have been transferred on to "CK", which you should have some since you owned CKG. The M (XMR) value is worth whatever someone will pay for it in the market.

Service announcement:

Automatic deposits will be down for the next 12-24 hours while I migrate to a better equipped server. I had planned it to be a seamless process and nobody would know anything happened, but the daemon keeps freezing, now stuck 624 blocks behind and not moving after a restart.

Until then, deposits will be manually credited so please allow a little extra time.

Thank you!

PGC shareholder proposal:

As a large CKG investor in Palazzo Gaming Corp, I noticed we have accumulated a fair amount of CKG dividends. The current M balance of PGC is at 493 mil. Based on my calculations from the changelog, PGC has earned 454,847,180 m on dividends since 1630 alone (did not calculate further).

I propose that PGC donates 200 mil to PJ to assuage his negative balance. It was an unfortunate misunderstanding, and no one could foresee the consequences of what would happen.

I don't believe this will be detrimental at all to the operations of PGC, when it was active I recall a starting balance of 200 mil or so. Furthermore, I believe it will do much more good in lifting the morale of our Kingdom's developer. Let's show our support for him!

If other PGC shareholders agree, please cast your votes in support of this proposal.

Saddam: 1,529 shares
Riddick: 240 shares

1769/10000 S-PGC in support of donating 200 mil to PJ (143).

The starting balance was 600m if I recall correctly, not 200m. It has been whittled down by repurchasing tokens from players, so even after gold dividends and game revenue it has lost 107m. As CEO of this company, I do not think that giving out 200m of palazzo corp funds is in the best interests of this company. We have yet to pay a dividend to all shareholders, and it is well past due--investors need something for building the company. So if the decision is based solely on what the CEO believes will help the company, I vote no for this proposal.

On the other hand, I have compassion on a personal level, and as one of the largest shareholders (if not the largest) with 2800 shares, I would consider donating 100m to PJ of the company funds. I would also ask the shareholders of other corporations to follow suit with similar proposals if they have any spare funds. There is no reason PGC needs to be the only company that donates.

Thank you for correcting me on the starting balance and expenses.

I would not want to unfairly tax the shareholders of PGC for this donation, 100mil sounds like a safe amount.

On the other hand, there are only 271/6241 CR1625E tokens outstanding (total value of 47 mil at current CKG midprice) that don't already belong to PGC or Coinshop, so when gambling is resumed there should be plenty of cash flowing in if players want to play.

The depository will now resume activity as normal (withdrawals and deposits).

Deposit instructions:
Quote
1. Go to https://deposit.cryptokingdomgold.com and enter your username to receive a payment id.
2. Deposits will be credited in-game after 1 confirmation.

Withdrawal instructions:
Quote
1. Give M to New. Example: GIVE M 1010000 New
2. Message me ('Saddam') via the CK in-game PM system with your withdrawal address and/or payment id.

If you have a large withdrawal (now > 100 XMR), expect that I will also contact you outside of the game channels to confirm.

Going forward, withdrawals will be manually processed once daily and double-checked by myself and the gamemaster before sending. Withdrawal requests received before midnight GMT (8pm EST / 7pm CST / 5pm PST) will be sent the next day.

Withdrawals are subject to a 1% fee (or 10 XMR max), whichever is lower. I had experimented briefly with a smaller fee just before the pause, but I must value my time and infrastructure costs.

In addition to the work of keeping funds secure (all funds are kept in cold storage - except for a brief time when you initially deposit), developing and maintaining the deposit gateway, there are also server costs, researching and upgrading security (Trezor with watch only wallet will be used for outgoing transfers in the near future, for example). I am also working on an API so that CK can integrate the deposit info without the need for an external site, among other improvements.

Enjoy and happy gaming!

Please contact me with any questions or special concerns. (example: Don't allow my user to withdraw over X amount, don't allow any withdrawals whatsoever, only allow withdrawals to this certain address, etc.) I would like to see that CK adds 2FA, in the meantime please understand withdrawal procedure is manual and takes time.

I only drink vintage champagne... ;-)
for humor's sake, not saying i'd really do it, but i'd totally drink a shoot of kurious' urine after kurious has drank 24 h of only vintage champagne if the price ever hits the current mc of eth.  Roll Eyes

From experience, I'd advise against making bets involving urine when it comes to XMR...
