Monero is not a clone of Bitcoin and it offers something that Bitcoin does not - unlinkable & untraceable transactions using ring signatures. I find it useful and more interesting than bitcoin at this point.

This thread should be moved to the Altcoin Forum.

 Cool

I don't think there will be any serious resistance until we reach 0.002-0.003.

Most early XMR adopters are still underwater until that point, and after holding on to their losses for so long, they are not easily shaken.

I love Monero. Sorry this is not much of a post.

What is with this shit coin. Blockchain is now 22 hour´s beeing downloading and i have 167 day´s to sync???

I will buy and away with my coins from an exchance to my wallet.

my wallet is monero client.net

Have you tried to sync bitcoin to see how long it takes? Or you are just familiar with 10days coins with zero transactions? Oh and if you want a real untraceable currency then unfortunately you have to deal with a bigger blockchain.

Btw in the OP there is a copy of blockchain to download usually kinda updated. You can always use this too: https://mymonero.com/#/

I have download this shit, but its very very slow, by darkcoin ists realy realy faster.

I will 5k Fiat change to xmr, but its so slow.

IS mymonero.com 100% safe?  Thy safest Place is my extra Notebook for coins, only online to buy or sell

Pippo, check the first post of this thread for a download of the blockchain. You can place that in your bitmonero folder and it speeds up the sync time.

Very soon you will be able to instantly pay anyone that accepts BTC using XMR. Your wife will never know, even if she is a blockchain forensic expert. I can't reveal the service but I've tried it and it works very well.

Coin-swap-a-mulgroonie?

Something very cool, a new service specifically for XMR->BTC payments. I think they are working out some bugs so stay tuned.  Cool

What is the next big thing for Monero that could push Monero to place 5 on cmc?

  • Database (imminent)
  • GUI (soon™)
  • More people looking for privacy and anonymity in their transactions
  • Services and Merchants accepting XMR
  • Emission that decreases each and every block

All of these things are coming from a growing community.

So, I believe we just need to collaborate to get some stuff done as a community, outside of the Core Devs. They are busy.
What do we want to do?

Are we on slack? If not lets make one and start a brainstorming session. The topic should be development funds

Edit - we are on slack - monerofoundation.slack.com

Pm me your email for invites, i think there should not be a problem about privacy for a public foundation

All I want is a way to pay for cam girls without my wife potentially finding out--is that too much to ask?

Every bitcoin wallet does use a new address for each transaction by default.

Can those addresses/transactions be linked to each other by examining the blockchain?

Yes. Let's say you have 10 BTC on an address and you make a payment of 1 BTC to someone. In the transaction, 1 BTC goes to the recipient address, while the remaining 9 BTC (minus any tx fee) goes to a new change address in your bitcoin wallet.

It is easy for anyone to then trace what you do with your BTC and see how much you have, even if they don't necessarily know what it is being spent on.

I'm a Monero holder but I've been reading about HD wallets lately and I'm wondering why tech like CryptoNote is necessary when HD wallets change the address every time they send or receive.

Every bitcoin wallet does use a new address for each transaction by default...however the user can override that by reusing a receiving address for multiple payments for example.

HD wallet solves the problem of having to keep making backups of your wallet.dat, as there are only 100 addresses in your keypool until you need to make more. (at least in Bitcoin Core, I'm not very familiar with other wallets)
675  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Many Bitcoiners are Mentally Ill? on: February 13, 2015, 11:45:44 PM
How many people here got involved in bitcoin because you couldn't function in the normal economy, or in society at large? I'm seriously asking because the idea of a currency that specifically draws the unstable members of society is fascinating from a social psychology perspective. There are certainly a very high number of sociopaths leading the bitcoin community (which explains the continuous scams and thefts of the beta member resources). Anyway if there are any normal members here you might want to commission a social worker to survey this forum for potential suicide/homicide risks or a psych researcher to try to and determine what factors of the bitcoin system are selecting for dredges. Cheers!  Grin

LOL at this thread.

I'm sure it will offend some people to admit it, but when I examine my facts I suppose you are right. No doubt the insane highs and lows of the price can exacerbate the mania over these past few years. I wouldn't have it any other way!  Cheesy

Me:

1. came to bitcoin partly because I was shut out of the normal economy

2. have been diagnosed with mental illness in the past, but i don't do anything about it because i think my state of mind is normal.

If anyone wants an OpenAlias hosted at moneroaddress.org I will provide the service at 10 XMR per year.

Please PM if interested.

where the hell is the dude that proposed the bond measure in the first place?

(edited twice because I can't use "there/their" correctly)

aminorex proposed the bond, but i think there was not enough XMR pledged to make it worthwhile for him.

Until then, you can be your own "Monero Masternode" by buying and holding.  Cheesy

In other news, I noticed the Monero subreddit just gained about ~150 new subscribers in the past few days. It has been stagnant around 700 for months. Perhaps some new users are noticing the great potential of Monero.

Wow, glad I divested awhile back. Maybe now is a good time to reinvest.
679  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 04, 2015, 12:16:58 AM
Most members in Monero community (me included) have reached their limits of the amounts of Moneros they want to hold.

Not everybody. I just hit a significant milestone in my personal XMR amount, and I consider that my savings. Now I can buy Monero and have fun with it, by spending it at #tippero blackjack games, living a luxurious lifestyle in CryptoKingdom, investing at Cryptocoins-Dice. A currency should be fun to use, and now you can use it and live without fear of being tracked down like Ross Ulbricht.

Imagine the next few months, the database comes to life, GUI, OpenBazaar and the Monero economy will be fruitful. Monero is a currency I personally like to use, not just to speculate on. Bitcoin is dirty, leaking personal info everytime you use it.

If the price goes up from here, I will dump some coins.

I recommend calming down.
The emission is still pretty high (around 17 k per day).
The big price increase will take place most likely after 6-12 months from now so we have plenty of time to buy coins until that.

Still, ~17000 daily emission * 0.30 USD per XMR = only $5,100

I guess the price is fair, all you can do with it right now is gamble. Can't wait until the future comes and I can order pizza & drugs online, pay with Monero and have it delivered to my doorstep by drone.
