BTW, the only people that will benefit from removing the blue power cables inside and going directly into the power supply are the ones that have a struggling power supply to begin with. If you power cables are warm to the touch like mine were with my 850 watt power supply I upgraded to a 1000 watt and the power cables are not warm to the touch anymore. Exact watt/amp readings with or without extra power cables.

Here in the US we all received our miners in October and going forward. The colder months were just starting. I don't think people realize how much trouble they are going to be in when the outside temps start to increase. It won't be a simple idea as paying for electric, but paying a lot extra and more for air conditioning to keep the rigs cool. When we had a few days if just 65 degrees out, I had to remove the top case of my Saturn, upgraded Jupiter  to keep the temps in check. When people start receiving Neptunes in May/June or whatever it is, the hotter days are right around the corner and my god this thread is going to fill up just about heat related issues. It does get truly tiresome going through pages of nonsense in this thread. Maybe there should be a forked off thread called KNC-Technical or something. Since KNC doesn't even offer support via their own forum and refuse to participate in the online community we have to what we have to do. Strangely KNC has even indicated they would provide support on their forum but basically went silent after that. Why even say anything at all? The last post from kncminer was in September. What's their problem, they don't like the bitcoin community, only our money?

I think a lot of people pre-ordered a monster (Netptune) and have no idea what they are getting themselves into. By the time they actually receive that rig the difficulty will much higher, possibly and likely others will deliver something so just to even think about getting your original money back you'll need every hash power you can squeeze out of it. If not, then you'll be just chasing a high you'll never end up getting.

I'm in awe my Saturn/Jupiter is still making me money, and in Q2 that will eventually cease. Once people start to need to re-wire their homes with commercial wiring/amps and commercial equipment that kind of tells me I have to bow out of the picture. I can't afford to cool and power the rig itself.
1122  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2900 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 05, 2014, 03:54:11 AM
From the numbers I've seen floating around, and since not one pool operator would indugle us in the money they make I can only assume they are making from the low end $10000 to the high end to $40000 / monhtly. Still beats most 9-5 jobs out there....and if operator was losing money he wouldn't be around here anymore. Average it out at $20kmonth and the operator is hauling in $240000. Most more then most people I know. A lot more. They are living quite comfortably it seems. Don't let 'em fool ya!

1123  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 04, 2014, 06:07:56 PM
Here's a blatant divergence from the thread.  What the author describes should be good for Bitcoin however.  He get annoyed at Happy New Years wishes and decries disasters that might befall the world and the US in the coming year.  When he gets to the US economy he postulates:

"  But even sooner than a nuclear disaster, we may be facing an even more critical economic disaster -- the catastrophic loss of the dollar’s unique position as the international reserve currency. This is imminent, according to leading economic and political analysts, and would trigger a total collapse of the U.S. banking system, generating explosive financial panic as we are subjected – not only to massive inflation – but also the immediate seizure by failing banks of all our deposits: checking accounts, savings accounts, Certificates of Deposit (CDs), money market funds, pensions, and any other liquid assets. Can failing banks really seize our money “just like that”? Yep, just like that. It is perfectly legal; the enabling “bail-in” laws have already been put on the books in the U.S. and Europe (did you sleep through that?).

And don’t think the FDIC  will protect your deposits up to the $250,000 limit promised by this agency. For when the failing banks seize your deposits, they will convert your money into stock in their failed institutions, rendering you “legally compensated” for your loss, and therefore not entitled to reimbursement  by the FDIC. Not that it will matter because, by that time, the FDIC will be bankrupt, since it has reserves of only $25 billion, whereas the seized deposits requiring compensation would likely exceed $25 trillion. And even if the FDIC could lay its hands on $25 trillion (fat chance, since this is nearly twice the entire Gross Domestic Product of the United States), another statute now  on the books, namely the Bankruptcy Reform Act of 2005, which was arm-twisted into law by Citigroup, JP Morgan, Chase,  Wells Fargo and the rest of the usual suspects (bet you slept through that, too), compels the FDIC to give preference to derivatives counter-parties over mere depositors like yourself, whose claims for reimbursement could exceed $600 trillion – or more than the GDP of the entire world economy. "

And this is why I constantly cash my money out of my accounts and then trade that money for gold. Put the gold into a safe in my home that isn't going anywhere. I'd rather have gold any day over real money. Let the US banks fall and crash. This country really needs a good restart. It is the banking industry that is killing this country to being with. They'll stop at nothing to keep their profits high and when they start losing just a little bit or make a little less profit they go crying like babies and threaten the people with dooms day bullshit. This country unfortunately is ran by greed, not capitalism. But then again, both are the same.

I look forward to the day. I'll just sit home with my Remington and watch some DVD's. Smiley

Where can I sign up for new newsletters?

I got the original upgrade modules email, never got Neptune even for existing customers,  never got this supposed new one.

Still furious about their disregard for pre existing customers. And now I can't even get damn updates.

I have always received their newsletters also...but did not on the last one. I checked my account and I'm on their email list. So their systems never sent out an email. Have to keep checking the site apparently.

W.r.t. Heat I had to share a hotel room with one of the nov boxes on to check it survived the flight. Fell asleep and woke up covered in sweat. I can't imagine what Cyphers house is like right now.

I also spent a night fixing dead boxes in the DC for the hosting on an occasion. October kit only, was a month or two back. In any case aside the monotonous hum. I had to take a break and grab water every hour. Even with aircon in the building it was hot hot hot.

24Kw in summer will just compound the heat...

EDIT: just saw what Bogart wrote as I posted. Most of the US households are not 240V and 200 Amps though.

Depends. That is actually the standard for single family dwellings and duplexes, since 1973. However, a lot of apartments now run 150 amp. 240v in is standard, to make it possible to run a dryer and a stove. A lot of mobile homes have a 100 amp service, and a few older aparments. The one I'm in is ten years old and an "economy" unit. (read low income housing). It's main is 125 amps/240v. That's kind of weird, actually, but I've seen it before. 150 is much more common in apartments built in the last thirty years, 100 before that. Most houses, unless really old or in the People's Republic of Pennsylvania, are 200amp/240v.

I should also note that upgrading a single family dwelling to a 300 amp service is easy and relatively cheap. By comparison to the price of your mining machines, it's damn near free. All told, if you do the work yourself, probably less than 500 dollars including inspection fees and the upgraded meter fee. Adding circuits can be difficult if you want to keep them concealed in walls, but if you were powering a shed or something like that, just run a line in a 24" to 36" trench to the shed and leave the inside wiring exposed. There's no added danger from this, and if you have neat hands it looks cool. It's also easy to just run a second line of service to an outbuilding.

The theory behind electrical load calculations and such is complicated and scary if you aren't an electrician or a mathematician. The actual mechanics of it are simple as hell.

I don't really think it is cheap. If you are all wired for 100 amps / 110v and want to switch or upgrade to 200+ amp and 240v then even your wires in the walls should be changed over to accommodate  and that is very expensive to do. Even though I have Central AC I did install a large 24BTU AC unit in one of my windows for extra cooling and have to take two breakers to make a 240v plug for it. That work itself, if I didn't do it myself would of cost me $300. And that was for just wiring one outlet not replacing anything at the panel. Maybe it is different in the more rural areas in the US. I don't know what other homes have, but as I said before my home is only about 10 years old or so and only has 100 amp panel.

Most of the US households are not 240V and 200 Amps though.

Really?  I thought that was pretty standard.

I have a newly built 3 bedroom, two full bathroom house and it came with an 100amp panel. I also have central AC, washer, dryer, all that other stuff too, but the main panel is just 100 amps. 200 amps is if you have an extraordinary large house or have special requirements. It is certainly not the norm for a single family home in the US.

1127  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2600 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 02, 2014, 05:33:54 AM
Can someone show me the math on how to calculate the fee's I'm paying here? I know it is %3, but I want to know how much I've actually given to The Guild over the amount of time I have been here. Of course it isn't one of our charts.

Total Earnings / 0.97 = Amount you've made before fees.  Difference is the fee.

I was looking for that difference I guess. When I see 1 bitcoin in my dashboard does that mean you already have .3 of it?

Ok, that's easy enough. And the pool operator gets %3 of every block we find which is 25 BTC at the moment. That is approx $18k USD. Operator brings in about $540 for every block and how many blocks does the pool solve in a day? Trust me, not good at math at all, am I correct in trying to figure out how much the pool owner makes? Let's say it takes 10 minutes to solve each block, (usually is 4 minutes) but giving a big buffer here. So 6 blocks solved each hour, 6*24 = 144 blocks solved each day. 144 * $540 = $77k. I must be doing something wrong. Can a math genius help on this? I'm just curious to know how much a pool operator makes if %3 is the cut. I'm only asking here cause I mine on this pool and there is a fee. I probably fumbled the math big time, so I do apologize if it is not correct. I do expect it to be wrong, cause $77k seems way too high.

Thank you

O'rama... any chance you could get us a definitive answer if there will or will not be anymore 28nm?

Customer service doesn't seem to know, and you're our #1  Wink    Please?

Like I said yesterday. It was mentioned, but nothing more. Everything wound down for Christmas, and the agreement was that the idea would be set aside and approached with a fresh set of eyes in the NY. We had to assume someone else may ship a 28nm product in 2013 even if it didn't look likely.

We are more than aware of the aggressive Adwords campaign that is ongoing and has been pushed hard by companies that have yet to create working stable products throughout the BTC price rise to secure funds from newbies who don't research.

One assumes at some point someone intends to deliver on that, but no way were our customer service going to be put under the strain of another batch of orders and deliveries during their holidays, they've been under enough considering.

So customer service know nothing as nothing has been discussed this side of 2014. It's less than a 24 hours into the new year and a public holiday in most parts of the world.

Chillax, I'm sure there will be a discussion soon enough, until then there is nothing to say other than we are both aware of the interest, and no one's forgotten the completion of a working 28nm based Bitcoin miner 3 months back!

This was basically a yes or no answer. My god, you wrote a book and just confused more people. This is my opinion. The only way KNC will ever deliver anymore jupiters is if other companies start releasing miners before their Neptunes comes out. They would hate to see customer's throwing money at another company and apparently there is no loyalty in this business. Still in the back of my mind from their news letter two weeks+ ago, "So keep some coins handy as we expect them to go quick.". Handy for that Neptune listing that went up you mean.

1131  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2600 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 01, 2014, 05:43:31 PM
I think I meant to say speed issues and not connection issues. Previously my hash rate would be at a 550-560 according to my dashboard and now it is at a 520-530. Nothing has changed on my end and my miner stats are good. Low error rates, going full steam on my end. I've seen my hash rate drop, but it it has always gone back  up.  This time it has just stayed lower and not gone back up. I've tried rebooting my rig, router, everything....can't get the speeds I use to get for some reason. So for me to think it could be something with the pool is only logical. I'm speaking in terms of weeks here, not days.

1132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 01, 2014, 05:26:51 PM
Why are people asking for refunds on Neptunes?

Because they got robbed. And some are pretty pissed they had to shell out $13k and then they listed them for $10k to everyone.
1133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 01, 2014, 04:39:41 PM
You really wanna know...  Okay...
In all seriousness... I took the newsletter statement ""we may be in a position to release Jupiter’s and possibly upgrade cards which we will ship from stock." to mean... they will not be preorders, but will be a batch run & assembled before offered for sale, which could then be sold from stock, for immediate shipment. Which would also explain the answers in your emails. Nothing in the statement they made says they have them in stock as I understand it.  What are 40 new employees going to do until Neptune time? Based on the past, they can assemble & ship an entire batch in 2 weeks, so there's plenty of time to pull that one off. That's what I'm betting is happening....  and no, that's NOT an inside scoop, I could be totally off-base too.   Wink

"SOLD FROM STOCK" means what it says, SOLD FROM STOCK. Where in the world would you put together they would have to make them? If they had to make them and put them together and all that, they probably wouldn't have said SOLD FROM STOCK. It was a BALK KNC did to make people get some coin and not purchase from a competitor. Then the Neptune sales came out. It was just a marketing tactic.

They seem good to their word with minor exceptions so far and that's way ahead of others so I'm not going to give the 'just a marketing tactic' any weight.

Two weeks ago they told us to have some coin ready/handy. Why would they tell us that and then not put anything up for sale as indicated? Then, before the so called Jupiter sale a Neptune sale happens. Kind of perfect timing to me. I wouldn't put it past them at all for advertising a very sought after item, then put up pre-orders for another months and months away. People don't realize Q2 is half a year away. Dumping $13k or even $10k for something that far away is truly a die hard gamble and does take some big balls. My balls aren't big enough for that.
1134  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2600 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: December 31, 2013, 11:17:43 PM
I think the pool operator needs to hire someone to help him out. I also have been experiecing some connection issues myself. Take some of those fees you take from us and hire an expert for some contracting work. Make them sign a disclosure agreement and just get everything back up and running %100 again. You don't use the free service of cloudflare, do you? I hope  you at least have CloudFlare business. Anything less doesn't have any protection really.

1136  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase - do you keep any coins on there? on: December 31, 2013, 07:03:28 AM
Do you keep any bitcoin in your coinbase wallet? I've always sent everything to my local offline wallet, but it is at those times where you need some bitcoin right away and wish you had the access instantly. I was just wondering.

Also, is that Google Authenticator two-factor for just mobile devices? Does it actually give you two-factor on your computer?

I've left coins up on Coinbase with no problem. I can buy coins instantly at the lowest price and zip them away within minutes.

If you've just got out of prison for fraud and have 3 judgments against you. Coinbase might not trust you as much as me.

Coinbase was the first I was aware of with two factor Identification. They send a text message to your cell phone with the code. You then enter the code on the Coinbase site.

I'm sure Coinbase will piss me off some day but for now they are the only good place.

I was wondering if anyone had issues keeping their coin stored there since they really aren't a wallet. My account is level 2. I'm able to buy 10 bitcoin instant daily if needed and have all the access I need, but just a little weary about holding coin "online". In the meantime I have moved them to my local more secure wallet. I've been accumulating coins, and when they started to reach $8k-$9k, I just didn't feel good having them online. All I need is to wake up one day and get a notice from Coinbase that they've been hacked and lost all coins.

I wouldn't keep my coins on any online wallet. I used to keep half my coins on Coinbase before I started using Armory. Coinbase is better than any of the other online wallets as far as I'm concerned. Most of Coinbase's coins are kept in cold storage. And they have excellent record keeping so you can tell exactly how much you spent on all transactions.

I dumped everything to my local armory wallet. It isn't so much I don't trust armory, but I don't trust the guy trying to hack into them right now looking to steal all my coins.

1137  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Where is my transaction? on: December 31, 2013, 07:00:32 AM
I noticed the VM's clock was off by 2 hours. Strangely enough small transactions go through fine.

2 hours off the clock can be very significant for BitcoinQt. Is Armory showing the right amount of confirmations now?

Yep, that was the problem. Having the wrong time on the VM. It screwed up my local transaction logs and such. After a reset, time change and re-scan all went back to normal. When I send coin I see it come up instantly in my armory wallet. Of course waiting on transactions, but it is there immediately.

Status update for the refund on one of my three Neptunes:

  • 12/29 - 11:06pm ET: Sent email to sales@kncminer.com asking for refund
  • 12/29 - 11:06pm ET: Automated response confirming my request was received
  • 12/30 - 8:37AM ET: Kurt from KnC tells me that my order has been canceled as requested and he asks for my wire transfer info
  • 12/30 - 8:49AM ET: I respond to Kurt's request with my info and inquire about whether I can be refunded in the equivalent amount of bitcoin instead
  • 12/30 - 9:21AM ET: Kurt responds to confirm that the refund has been initiated to my bank account and that they do not offer refunds in bitcoin

I have no idea if/when the next sale for Jupiters may be, but it looks like the refund process is extremely quick! I'll update once more when I see the money in my bank account.

I sent an email on 26th to get an RMA for 2 damaged coolers and still nothing. It was a reply to an email that said: If you wish to return the damaged cooler then we can provide you with an RMA number and send a replacement.
Also on the 4th December I sent an email to Sam and nothing.
Maybe you are emailing the wrong department?...    customerservice@kncminer.com
I get quick responses there.

I have always emailed support@kncminer.com and it always works. They will probably reply after the holidays. I am not in a hurry anyway.
I give that address, because I've been in communication on it all thru the holidays, even at 2am sweden time I got responses... but..your choice.

last response was......Dec 29 19:42  (Sweden time)

Why do you need to be in communication with them all the time? What would you talk to them about?

I was totally eager to share a delicious recipe for biscuits.

I get it. Got to get that brown nosin' in to maybe secure some freebies later on or preferred treatment. My large testicles don't allow me to do that.

HI,

Right now, we don't have any Jupiter left in stock. And we don't have more information if Jupiter will be available again sometime in future.
If you don't want have the Neptune, you can just cancel the order.
And if Jupiter become available again, you can make an order again. Thanks!

What the heck is this? In their news letter they said they would possibly sell Jupiters from stock?Huh And then you receive an email saying they don't have any? So I was right. The only reason KNC posted that information was to make a balk and stop people from ordering from other companies, then they put their Neptune for 10k back on sale which was what they really wanted to coin for. What a smile ball tactic. I don't think I've met one honest bitcoin related company yet.

Of course they're not in stock, they have to make them still.
hehehe....   whatever... I'll be ready for the Jupiter sale.
Yeah...Lies...all lies....   terrible company, evil tactics....
I was tricked and forced into making 7x my money with such crap...  doggone.

From KNC's own news letter:

"we may be in a position to release Jupiter’s and possibly upgrade cards which we will ship from stock."

And you say, "Of course they're not in stock". That's not a run on sentence. "from stock" applies to Jupiter's and upgrade cards according to the English language.
