It's really not a game changer. It is simple to register for that. I just didn't want to have to do it for mining.
registering as a money transmitter in USA isn't easy. You have to comply & register in every state you deal with, and they don't have any "Standardization" that covers all.... it's very difficult. Why do you think the exchanges had such a hard time? It takes millions, months, and a team of lawyers.
You'll see.....

but miners in general are ok....     just hosting farms.

And then what happens if the hosting farm isn't in the US? The US laws do not apply to that hosting farm. This is where it gets confusing.

1142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 31, 2013, 05:17:12 AM
Whynot just buy coins instead of doing a bank wire? A lot easier.

It's not that easy to deposit money in an exchange to buy bitcoin.  A wire us much less difficult.  I personally just buy mining gear with the coins I earn.  If I don't have enough coin, then I don't buy.

I log in to coinbase, input how much I want to buy and press a button. Within 2-3 days (quicker depending on verification level) it's in my wallet. What's easier is buying from the BTC I have, and using the Coinbase amount to resupply. Baddabing, you're done. Instant transfer, just the way BTC was meant.

So yeah, it really is that easy. I suppose if you use other exchange methods perhaps it's more difficult.

Hmm, maybe I need to try Coinbase!  I've only ever used BTC-e and MtGox.

Read the Coinbase thread in the service threads. People have issues with them a lot and I've had my share of issues as well.

no one understand why pay 13k and now is 10k

kidding with our money

They pulled the same crap when they released the Saturn. They lowered the price, and it was only like 2 week difference.

HI,

Right now, we don't have any Jupiter left in stock. And we don't have more information if Jupiter will be available again sometime in future.
If you don't want have the Neptune, you can just cancel the order.
And if Jupiter become available again, you can make an order again. Thanks!

What the heck is this? In their news letter they said they would possibly sell Jupiters from stock?Huh And then you receive an email saying they don't have any? So I was right. The only reason KNC posted that information was to make a balk and stop people from ordering from other companies, then they put their Neptune for 10k back on sale which was what they really wanted to coin for. What a smile ball tactic. I don't think I've met one honest bitcoin related company yet.

1145  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 28, 2013, 05:44:22 AM
Yea, we were told to hold some coins and all that. Where are those Jupiters? By the time they annouce them, they will be $1000 each.

1146  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Where is my transaction? on: December 28, 2013, 04:25:59 AM
The Armory won't work until the bitcoinQT deamon is all loaded up and synced. So that wasn't the issue. Armory won't even show transaction history until it finishes syncing with bitcoinD anyway so I can't check the details until I at least see the transaction there. But according to blockchain and blockexploer 277156 was where that bitcoin was and it all looked good on my end. Having said that, I came from using Electrum, and never experienced these issues. I unfortunately had to dump .88 version of Armory because of the resource issue and just started to use .99 recently, but I apparently just keep coming up with these little quirks and anomalies that don't make sense. Even right now, 3 hours later Armory still says 4 confirmations on that transactions and blockchain and explore both have over 25. I'm just wondering where the heck is it picking up 4, and the bitcoin daemon is all updated on my end here.

Turn off bitcoind auto management, start BitcoinQt yourself, then check block height in both BitcoinQt and Armory. Again, make sure these are the same as what you can see online.

You have to keep in mind that BitcoinQt/d constantly receives block data, that it then passes to Armory. You are most likely quite a few blocks behind on bitcoind.

I noticed the VM's clock was off by 2 hours. Strangely enough small transactions go through fine.
1147  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: ChainWatch (console transaction monitor) on: December 27, 2013, 03:56:13 PM
Just sent you a few bucks as a donation. All I can afford these days.

Cool little utility. And when I see amounts like 300+ being traded makes me cringe! Big time money going through.

1148  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Where is my transaction? on: December 27, 2013, 03:23:16 PM
if the blockchain says u own the bitcoins why are you worried? Unless u need to move the bitcoins quickly and if thats the case you allready have access to them by using electrum. I assumed armory would be used for more storage typed wallets.

The bitcoin came from Coinbase, which I'm hoping is the whole problem here.
I guess I wanted to know why there was such lag and also to know if that is normal or not. I never experienced that before and I've done hundreds of transactions to and from multiple wallets. Seeing over 30 transactions on the blockchain and blockexplorer and then not seeing the transaction in my armory client made me a little weary. It took me a long time to mine those coins, and I didn't want to lose them. I also had to close the Armory program and open it up again to finally retrieve the transaction once it came in. It wasn't getting the transaction by itself for some reason.
1149  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Where is my transaction? on: December 27, 2013, 06:18:32 AM
Armory depends on BitcoinQt for its networking. Your case sounds like either BitcoinQt was off or it wasn't updating. Next time make sure the block height displayed by BitcoinQt is the same as what you see on blockchain.info or blockexplorer.com. Then compare that value to the one displayed in Armory.

Any divergence there should give you a better idea of which part is at fault.

The Armory won't work until the bitcoinQT deamon is all loaded up and synced. So that wasn't the issue. Armory won't even show transaction history until it finishes syncing with bitcoinD anyway so I can't check the details until I at least see the transaction there. 1150  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase - do you keep any coins on there? on: December 27, 2013, 05:51:26 AM
Do you keep any bitcoin in your coinbase wallet? I've always sent everything to my local offline wallet, but it is at those times where you need some bitcoin right away and wish you had the access instantly. I was just wondering.

Also, is that Google Authenticator two-factor for just mobile devices? Does it actually give you two-factor on your computer?

I've left coins up on Coinbase with no problem. I can buy coins instantly at the lowest price and zip them away within minutes.

If you've just got out of prison for fraud and have 3 judgments against you. Coinbase might not trust you as much as me.

Coinbase was the first I was aware of with two factor Identification. They send a text message to your cell phone with the code. You then enter the code on the Coinbase site.

I'm sure Coinbase will piss me off some day but for now they are the only good place.

I was wondering if anyone had issues keeping their coin stored there since they really aren't a wallet. My account is level 2. I'm able to buy 10 bitcoin instant daily if needed and have all the access I need, but just a little weary about holding coin "online". In the meantime I have moved them to my local more secure wallet. I've been accumulating coins, and when they started to reach $8k-$9k, I just didn't feel good having them online. All I need is to wake up one day and get a notice from Coinbase that they've been hacked and lost all coins.
1151  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Transaction fee... on: December 27, 2013, 05:41:53 AM
People complaining about fees is recurrent. However, the Armory team has no power on that front. This discussion doesn't belong here.

If you want to allow for no minimum fees, you can modify the code. It is actually quite a simple modification.

My point flew right over your head. When did I ever ask about no fees? I quite simply asked about transactions fees within Armory and if they can be changed or not. When sending a payment there is a transaction fee box which defaults to .0005 right now and was wondering if that can be changed to .0001 or something. Apparently from seeing that chainwatch output list, .0001 is a very popular fee right now. I also don't think there is a static set of protocols where anyone can access online and read about it. It probably changes all the time and is too dynamic to keep it online for viewers to read. One site will say one thing, and another site will say another. I'm not looking to get out of using transaction fees, just looking to change them, since I've been using the same fee for over a year, even while bitcoin increased %500.  I only thought in my mind, the fee could be lowered because of the increase in bitcoin. Maybe I'm wrong, but I haven't found a rule book or any real standards on bitcoin since regulation is NOT what we want. That's what normal banks have, and they have been failing for years.
1152  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: December 27, 2013, 05:27:56 AM
Re-using addresses to me is a good feature of bitcoin. Why are programs trying to stop that? When you have a donation address, a payment address, an address just associated with your company you would want people to know that address. Let the user make up their mind and do what they want instead of the program, right? Almot %90 of the users here paste their personal bitcoin address in their signature. It is more of a common practice to re-use addresses then anything and when a program or someone tries to just change that, questions will be asked....hence an entire thread.
Address reuse is privacy pollution.

And that should up to the user to do with what he/she wants to do with his/her privacy. Why would other people care what I do?

Because it's not expected of the user to know how to optimize their own privacy.  It's up to us to set sane defaults and educate users about what they sacrifice by deviating from that.

Unfortunately, Bitcoin privacy is pretty bad and reusing addresses pretty much completely deanonamizes you. Every one you interact with can see you r entire history and balance. It's pretty atrocious.

Not only that, but by doing that you damage the privacy of everyone that interacts with you.  It's in everyone's best interest to discourage address reuse, especially when the software uses deterministic wallets and backups are not an issue

Here's the rub. Some user's want to be able to let everyone see their account history for proof of payments, account balances, etc. I'm currently taking donation for a website, and want the users to see how much I have been receiving so they can stop donating when the balance is where it is supposed to be. Even this forum does the same thing. They use the same address over and over again so people can see what is going on. If that's what its intent is for, then it is not a privacy issue. There are several situations where I would want to use the same receive address.  If someone making a donation realizes the address they are sending to has been used over and over, then that address history is viewable by all. At that point, let the user make the decision on what they want to to. Are you trying to implement new rules into bitcoin or just your client? Will you continue to keep the ability for the user to keep using the same receive address or remove that function entirely. As I said before, I'm all for letting the user make the decision (be it a bad one or not) and not force them down a path they don't want to go because of the program. If that happens with me, I'll just find an alternative. Everyone is so hooked on having a receive for everything that receive address list starts to grow like wild file. If that's not pollution, I don't know what is. The bottom line, some people are fully aware of what they are doing and just want to use a receive address they used before. This is an obvious advanced bitcoin client here, please don't turn around and say you are looking out for the new bitcoin users and their practices. If I want to use another address, I'll pick one. I can see the very paranoid, overly security conscious people worried about this, but their also the ones that won't even use online banking because they're afraid their account will get hacked. Being overly paranoid and secretive puts you into certain positions you have to deal with, and if you are hiding something that's a whole new story.

1153  Bitcoin / Armory / Where is my transaction? on: December 27, 2013, 04:29:11 AM
It has over 15 confirmations and still hasn't hit my Armory client. This was the very first large bitcoin transfer I've ever done and all of a sudden, even with 15 confirmations gets stuck in Limbo now? I really need this bitcoin. Does the Armory need to be shut down, then loaded back up to pick up the new transactions or will it just get it by itself if it just running? Where would my transaction go? I was sending bitcoin from coinbase to my Armory wallet. According the blockchain it was sent, but is not hitting my Armory wallet even after 15 confirmations. Ok, who's to blame here on this one?

Update:

After 20 confirmation the bitcoin amount just hit my Armory wallet, but Armory only indicates there is only 2 confirmations on the transaction. So who do I point the finger at this time? Where the bitcoin is coming from or where the bitcoin is going to? I just switched back to the Armory from Electrum because of new .99 version that came out and Electrum always received my bitcoin instantly and coincided with whatever the blockchain was saying. Why is the Armory lagging behind so bad here? It literally took about 2 hours to send coin from coinbase to my Armory wallet. And it didn't start to show in the client until late in the 2nd hour. What's the deal with that? The more and more I use that block chain locally, the more sick of it I get. If this continues to happen once again I'll have no choice but to switch to another client. I can't wait 2 hours for a transaction to come in. Time is money. There must be an explanation for this?
1154  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2400 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: December 27, 2013, 03:57:50 AM
Some work is being started (won't see much progress til after Christmas) on a rewrite of the Stratum servers.  The backend BTC Guild has been using was written in C/C++, and was actually designed for a completely different protocol which I had hoped to release before Stratum (more efficient, but less noob-friendly with the lack of JSON).  While the current servers have proven to be rock solid (can go months without restarts), I'm looking to extend their capacity significantly, as well as make the different parts of the system handle threading better and as a result, make it more modular.  Not much point in having quad/hex/octo core servers if the threading model puts most the load in one or two threads!

This new system will end up being tested on (gasp) an altcoin first, to get a sense of any bottlenecks/bugs, and give the modular nature a stronger test with multiple coin chains on a single service.  Once proven, it will end up deployed for the BTC side as well.

Keep an eye out for the news section around the start of the new year if you'd like to give it a test with your old GPUs.

What will this cost us? Increasing fees?

Does anyone know how much the power consumption of the Neptune will be? An educated guess? I already have an order on the Bitmine 2TH rig which consumes 3 KW so I can't have anything more than 2 KW in my apartment Smiley

Also, how high is the risk of fire on these rigs? I am concerned since we don't have smoke detectors in our old Denmark apartments, and having two units would double the risk. From what I have read on these forums KnC units have been going up in smoke now and then. Does such an event lead to a fire hazard inside an apartment?

I am totally new to this mining merry-go-round so advise from experienced hands will be very useful  Cheesy

Don't you guys have a hardware store where you can buy a cheap fire detector? Hell, even fire stations in the US give them out for free. Are you against using a fire detector or something?

hw errors eligius continues same
after few hours

i continue dont know why knc ask psu 1200W if only max 700w

Eligius blows. Pay the fee and use The Guild. Nothing but bliss and payouts like clock work.

Why does Eligius blow? Just wondering its been better then the guild for me.

Because I think the payout system there blows and the stats/info you get back aren't nearly as informative as The Guild's.  I also like the manual payout feature which Eligius does not have. I've had good hash rate, but trying to get paid was another issue. So I went to the Guild and been paying fees ever since. Their dashboard and informative charts are at my finger tips and very clean and easily read.

Suckers everywhere,

Pay 3% for pretty colors and "quicker payouts" because you don't know how to use the "My Eligius" Features.

People are trying to maximize their money, if I had to pay a 3% fee I would have paid BTC Guild BTC16, I hardly believe their stats and manual payout feature is worth that.

Different Strokes for Different Folks!

When people are so hooked and loyal to a pool having stats doesn't matter anyway, cause they are going to stay there no matter what. Bad stats or good stats. I'll gladly pay for a more refined look and better looking dashboard. I'm sorry but the Eligius site looks like a teenager wrote the code and really needs a big overhaul in my opinion. And trust me, soon as the operator spends more time and actually doing some updates he'll charge a fee. Features? Yea, I've seen them....they aren't must to be desired. I guess you think the thousands that pool there are all suckers, right and the Eligius pool is for the "techie" or "nerds" only that only know how to use the site. Such typical answers to an opinion.
1159  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Transaction fee... on: December 25, 2013, 09:11:02 AM
Armory follows the Bitcoin network rules. Keep in mind that Armory uses BitcoinQt as its interface to access the Bitcoin network, so all transactions it creates are broadcasted through the core client, and thus cannot break the transaction rules as implemented by the core team.

Fees are calculated by the size of the transaction, its value and the age of the coin, so it is possible to send 0 fee transactions indeed.

Let's not make the program a dictatorship. Please let the user make the decision on how much they want to pay for their transaction fee. If their payment gets stuck in limbo for 1 month then we can blame them.

This comes right from bitcoin.org's website:

"Most transactions can be processed without fees, but users are encouraged to pay a small voluntary fee for faster confirmation of their transactions and to remunerate miners."

What a crock a doodoo. Most transaction without fees? Sorry, when was the last time anyone ever tried that? That is such a misleading statement it should be removed from the website. When users read that they think exactly what it says. Apparently transaction fees are still being changed??? Another quote from bitcoin.org.

"Transaction fees are used as a protection against users sending transactions to overload the network. The precise manner in which fees work is still being developed and will change over time. Because the fee is not related to the amount of bitcoins being sent, it may seem extremely low (0.0005 BTC for a 1,000 BTC transfer) or unfairly high (0.004 BTC for a 0.02 BTC payment). The fee is defined by attributes such as data in transaction and transaction recurrence. For example, if you are receiving a large number of tiny amounts, then fees for sending will be higher. Such payments are comparable to paying a restaurant bill using only pennies. Spending small fractions of your bitcoins rapidly may also require a fee. If your activity follows the pattern of conventional transactions, the fees should remain very low."
1160  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: December 25, 2013, 09:02:50 AM
For real? Did someone pay 200 BTC in transaction fee?! LOL! SO FUNNY! Anyways, that's besides the point. The question is: can I still receive money with [[change received]] address? I just want to make sure.

Another thing you can do: check "hide change" and that will hide all of the associated bitcoin address with [[change received]] address. It's a nice feature to have, so perhaps I overlooked this feature. You're right, it's not a bug; thanks for clearing this up. Kudos.

[[change received]] labels an address as having being used for change. The address is of course still valid, as it holds your change. the Bitcoin protocol strongly recommends to not reuse addresses, mainly to protect your privacy. So, as default, Armory picks a new address in your wallet every time it needs to send you back change. The corollary is that Armory will not pick that address again for change, and it will mark it as such, so that you may abide to that recommendation.

Of course this remains a recommendation. Addresses marked as change do not have their mechanics altered in any way, and you can use them to receive other payments at your leisure. It simply is considered bad practice, and Armory makes a point of offering you the opportunity to use the recommended way as described in Satoshi's white paper.

Re-using addresses to me is a good feature of bitcoin. Why are programs trying to stop that? When you have a donation address, a payment address, an address just associated with your company you would want people to know that address.
