Hey guys,
I just got into HoboNickels. Two days ago I downloaded, ran, and sync'd the current 1.3 win qt wallet. This morning after opening the wallet it now says:
WARNING: Checkpoint is too old. Wait for block chain to download, or notify developers.
I'm fairly new to crypto's ingeneral, but I dont understand. Do I just wait a few hours or do I need to download something or notify the defelopers? When I click help -> about it says I'm running HoboNickels version "1.3.1.0-gc722bd8-hobo"
Is it safe to transfer my mined coins to my wallet in this state?
Additionally I want to setup Proof of Stake on my wallet. I found a great post the other day on bitcointalk, but cant find it now. Can someone please link me to info on setting up PoS?

Sometimes on the first sync that message can reside until the client fully up to sync with the network. Sometime you need to shut down after you are completely up to speed. It should go away on its own. You can always check what your current checkpoint is by using the debug window ->console then type getcheckpoint. The time and block should correspond to getinfo.

Hi Balthazar,
Just wanted to say great work on this coin, I have been scooping these up as they slide for some unknown reason.
Also I recently updated my coin(fork for NVC) to be ready to QT5. I would be more then happy to issue the same PR for NVC if you would find it useful.

Good conversation here guys.
Just to keep expectations in line, I can't respond to each reply and tit for tat. But I do read them and keep them in mind.
Also I do not have any immediate plans to change how this is currently working. This is not a PoW coin it is PoW/PoS Hybrid. PoW is meant to start the coin off, with the PoS carrying the weight in the future. Its not perfect, but it is working as intended. There are many coins that are much more profitable to mine and dump. HBN PoW will get less and less profitable as time goes on.
The only thing I may do is put an optional pause time between PoS blocks. It will not be enforced by the network and will be easily turned off if you want to. Still not sure I will even do this.
If there are serious issues I will issue a hard fork. This is not serious it is a minor nuisance. And as the network continues to mature, this will become less and less of an issue.
If other people want to try out code changes, and submit them we can test them out, and see how they work.

Tranz needs to set the stake amounts
2 other members of my team are setting the tx limits and hashing the genesis block
3 of the members are doing the mac/windows/linux clients
All thats remaining after that is the logo's and the testing of the client.
Stake is not yet clearly described (As i know) can you please quote some link if its been already described. and what about cryptsy wallet coins? Here is what I came up with .07% every 5 days. Or 5% yearly. Min weight 5 day, max weight 30 this has been talked about before and it was decided that it would be 0.05% / 15 days ( 1.2% / year ) 5 day stake will cause a lot of issues with orphans i spent a lot of time talking to mullick about it and 15 day stake max weight 30 days is best to minimise issues cases by orphans i was tempted to go with 2.4% / year but that would add 1,600,000,000 coins + a year to the total amount this can be changed in the future so can we please go with the requirements that have already been laid out and that the users have no objection to  Zack feel free to change it. Its like 5 lines of code. But at 15 days all coins will just sit on Cryptys and the block chain will be still. |

Hi all! Fun day today.  Nothing is wrong with the network, or with the hash rate calculation or the difficulty. All were acting within normal parameters. The client tries to keep the block time generation to 30 seconds, across PoS AND PoW In this case a user how a bunch of aged coins, that they turned on after 30+ days(max weight), and it started generating PoS blocks very quickly. The network responded by increasing the difficulty of both PoS and PoW to slow down the block back to 30 seconds. Preference is given to PoS over PoW, as this was the intention to create a more efficient network. And what happened? Miners left the network, saving electricity and allowing PoS to carry more of the block chain. This is a good thing. We want a very energy efficient network, and this is what we are getting! |

Funny thing about markets. Hardly anyone wants to buy low and sell high. But many people love to buy high and sell higher. tokyoghetto great job on this. I have been a study of markets for sometime, and I love your approach, very similar to my own. What other financial instruments have you played with? I've had decent success with level 1 option trading. I haven't progressed much in that arena, such as complex butterfly trades and the like, it starts to make me bit dizzy!  The biggest reason I love cryptos, is for the first time, I feel I am on a level playing field. Stocks are great for long term, but it's such an insiders game, hard to really make much wealth unless you already have it, or have a lifetime to wait. Good luck all! |

It's like many miners are mining HBN now. Last month I can get 100 HBN every day but now just less than 30 HBN. Sadly my mining wallet can not be recovered. Today HBN transaction volume in http://live.myip.ms/ ranks 12th in Cryptsy! Hope such volume will be maintained everyday! PM about your wallet that is not working? I'll see if I can get you set straight. |

i have no idea but it sent the amount that i wanted to send it wasnt short any fees
So hopefully what happened is that you sent the block, and it took the .001 transaction fee out of the block being sent. To make sure your other blocks are still aging, you can get into the "inputs" area. Expand the arrow and you will see all of your blocks and their number of confirmations. Hopefully none of your blocks were reset from a fee being taken out of it, and you would know if it was reset because the confirmations would be low. To avoid these types of scenarios, I keep a wallet for transactions and a wallet for staking coins. now it is showing my entire balance as one block now for next time do i need to go to input and check the blocks or leave it unchecked and it will do it automatically? i also have around 40k hbn do i need to split them in small amount to stake or will it stake at 40k? You should get used to using coin control. Or the wallet will choose the coins for you. Sometimes it will be ok, other times it may not. Having 1 huge block defeats the purpose of coin control. Better to have a few medium blocks some some can be sent, and others kept for stake. |

Hmmm.. I have been trying to corrupt a wallet by all reasonable means. I so far I haven't.
I haven't had any corruptions either, even though I have 8 secondary wallets, I updated from 1.2.3 to 1.3, and I have hard shutdown the computer that is running the wallets while the client was on. I threw some code into an endless loop  and completely crashed my computer, to the point of having to run check disk to get it backup. HBN was mining and staking at the time, yet every wallet was perfectly fine. Hmmm.. I haven't run the newest win 7 updates, yet. I wonder if that could have anything to do with it?! |

That is going to be a great addition! But does this mean -salvagewallet doesn't get rid of orphans? I know it didn't for me but maybe I use it wrong.
-salvagewallet will for the wallet.dat file on start up. It doesn't hit every wallet in your %appdata% but it should remove orphans from the default wallet. |
