1021  Economy / Economics / Re: Russians move into bitcoin as ruble tanks (CNBC) on: December 17, 2014, 02:27:22 PM
Sounds good but why does the price of bitcoin keeps on tanking? There must some selling pressure coming from somewhere. Another explanation i convince myself is i expect the drop in bitcoin price is a reflection of the strength or gain in us dollar like what is happening against all other currencies with bitcoin losing no exception.
On explanation is, that people are selling their bitcoin to buy X-mas-gifts.

Fantastic, a big thanks guys Smiley)

I was just reading up on Bitaddress.org through one of the threads here.

So why would someone need to DL the Blockchain?
You need the Blockchain to send Bitcoin, since the client, which makes the transaction needs the previous transactions regarding your address to create your transaction. But there are already clients, which use a central stored blockchain(so not on your PC), e.g. electrum.

So there is no difference between a fast and a slower block time coin.

Just the pain of the waiting time for the TX to go through Sad
I recently tried out watchmybit.com: It was less than a second for the site to register my payment.
1024  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you own bitcoin? on: December 17, 2014, 01:27:54 PM
Ok, what I don't understand is why so many people only own a fraction of a bitcoin - why not buy a whole bitcoin now while the price is so low? If you're an enthusiast enough to be on bitcointalk - you should have at least 5 bitcoin. Or else you don't really believe it will go anywhere.

Because they don't have the money to buy a whole bitcoin. It is as easy as that.
1025  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to set up a BTC cold storage wallet? on: December 17, 2014, 01:17:19 PM
You don't even need a technical device to store your cryptos.
All you need is a private and a public key.
That is the right point. If you can store paper wallet securely, you don't need iPad. You may always see the balance using https://blockchain.info

So your steps:
1. Generate paper wallet.
2. Buy bitcoins to the generated address, check at blockchain.info if arrived.
3. Restore wallet after 5 years importing private key using any modern software.
I wrote a Rainmeter-widget that shows my cold storage amount, directly on my desktop using the blockchain.info-API

1027  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: MtGox geht in Konkurs on: December 17, 2014, 12:55:29 PM

However, at present, the bankruptcy trustee intends to
start accepting the filing of proof of claims in April 2015, even if the
aforementioned investigation has not been completed
1028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to set up a BTC cold storage wallet? on: December 17, 2014, 12:49:33 PM

You don't even need a technical device to store your cryptos.
All you need is a private and a public key.

One method would be to go to this site:

https://www.bitaddress.org/bitaddress.org-v2.9.3-SHA1-7d47ab312789b7b3c1792e4abdb8f2d95b726d64.html
save the html-file.
Put the file on your air-gap machine
use it to generate your paper wallets
print them out
done, you now have save bitcoin addresses

Use the public addresses to let people send bitcoin there. Keep the Private part a secret.
As long as you don't want to use them, I wouldn't worry about what to do with that private key. What ever wallet will be there in 5 years, there will be an easy way to import the private key.

UPDATE:

MTGox hat die FAQ mit neuen Fragen und Antworten aktualisiert!

Meine Frage an euch:

Muss ich bei MTGox irgendwas schriftliches einreichen zwecks der Insolvenz Sache?
Habe damals per Post ne Karte bekommen von MTGox. Hatte jetzt den Fall jedoch nicht mehr weiter beobachtet.

Ich hab letztens eine Mail bekommen, da stand folgendes drinnen:

As for the bankruptcy proceedings going forward, although the date has not been fixed yet, I plan to start accepting the filing of the proof of claims from around April 2015.
1030  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Making bitcoin convenient on: December 17, 2014, 12:11:10 PM
I don't really see the disadvantage about: I have to know that I want to make a big purchase before I walk into the shop.

Are you casually walking into a shop and buy spontaneously a $ 2000 item?
1031  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to set up a BTC cold storage wallet? on: December 17, 2014, 12:05:30 PM
1. Cryptos bought on a new & dedicated iPad, which will only ever connect to the net for Crypto purchases. Otherwise kept in a safe.

You don't have to connect the device to the internet to buy cryptos.
1032  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: December 17, 2014, 12:02:52 PM
An alt-coin will be accepted at the local grocery store first as Bitcoin's 10 min confirmation time makes it inappropriate for brick & mortar applications other than large purchases. People need to keep in mind that Bitcoin was designed for transactions that are online or between geographically separated parties.

Even a 30 seconds block time coin is not suitable for local grocery purchase. You need a centralized payment processor to do the real time transaction. In that sense, there is no difference between BTC and altcoin.

If you have Bitcoin on your phone, it's very safe for the store to accept a Bitcoin payment from you.

But they have to trust you before the confirmation.
They have to trust, that you are not the secret owner of 51% of the bitcoin hash rate and are not using that power to steal the $1 back, that you just paid for a small item. That doesn't sound like that much trust to me.
1033  Economy / Economics / Re: Ruble in freefall... Too bad for those people they outlawed Bitcoin! hahaha on: December 17, 2014, 09:53:29 AM
I feel sorry for the Russian people.  Signs of hyper inflation are setting in with people rushing to stores to buy capital goods.

However, we can't laugh too hard, year to date bitcoin is down more versus the USD than the ruble is.
Russia is not actually experiencing hyper inflation, it's prices of domestically produced goods are generally the same, however the prices of imported good are increasing dramatically.

The percentage that the price of bitcoin has dropped is roughly the same as the percentage decline of the Russian Ruble. It is just that the Ruble's decline is accelerating and even massive hikes in interest rates are not slowing it down, nor has ~$100 billion in intervention slowed it down.
As far as I know, they import a lot of stuff.
Let's look at the stats, instead of speculating:

http://www.tradingeconomics.com/russia/inflation-cpi
Seems like high inflation to me.
1034  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The sad truth about Bitcoin on: December 17, 2014, 09:26:53 AM
Bitcoin is just another tulip mania  Smiley of course believers deny it  Smiley

Has anybody of you ever looked into the tulip mania or are you just repeating something you don't understand?
It is the same, as when people call Bitcoin a Ponzi and don't even understand what Ponzi means.
Please stop using words you don't understand.
1035  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which Bitcoin Client do you use and why ? on: December 17, 2014, 09:00:52 AM
I currently use Paper Wallets for cold storage, Bitcoin Core for my PC and I have a blockchain.info-wallet+android app with small funds, but I think I will mostly use Mycelium for Smartphone use.("will" because there are still not much places in Austria, where I can pay with Bitcoin, besides Online-Stores)
1036  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best way to buy bitcoins in SWITZERLAND on: December 17, 2014, 08:52:24 AM
Doesn't Switzerland use Euro?

I use hitbtc to trade euro for bitcoins.
lol
No, they don't Wink
1037  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best way to buy bitcoins in SWITZERLAND on: December 17, 2014, 08:47:02 AM
Do you mean just buy it, or buy it anonymously?
That are 2 whole different things.
1038  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The sad truth about Bitcoin on: December 17, 2014, 08:41:27 AM
I have looked into OP's posts.
So, there is really a misconception here:
If you want BTC, you don't have to either work for it or invest huge sums into it. You can also buy Bitcoin with small amounts of money. Just go on an exchange(I am from Austria, I don't know, which one would be best for you, but you can just ask in here) and buy some Bitcoin. It doesn't matter if it is not a whole Bitcoin. There are just small fees on exchanges(I pay 0.35% for a trade). It is really not that hard to do it.
So, you can just get a regular job that pays in USD. If you have problems to find a regular job that pays in USD, than you most certainly won't find a job that pays you in Bitcoin.
1039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you own bitcoin? on: December 17, 2014, 07:52:37 AM
Don't think this poll will give truly reliable/valid results.

I expect everyone to be honest, what would the point be of lying?

The real question should be, "what's the point of buying bitcoin so I can spend it on goods and services that I can already buy with fiat. Why should I take the extra step?" Unless companies like Microsoft and Time also begin offering employee pay in bitcoin, we're going to see continued selling.
Do you have to spam every thread with the same shit again and again?
You are getting really annoying ...
1040  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rouble crash didn't give a chance to Bitcoin? on: December 17, 2014, 07:48:01 AM
The Rouble has fallen sharply against the dollar recently
but why this didn't call a strong buy in Bitcoin and bring the price up while the gold and oil are also going down?

I am just astounded as to the many people in bitcoins that just have no clue as to trading and its basic model mechanics.

firstly Bicoin is NOT on thge foreign exchange, ( where all those others are traded daily) so the values of the other commodities you mentioned have absolutely no effect on bitocins value or its influence on others.

also you mentioned 2 manipulated markets in there, and Bitcoin is not a market safe haven. Its a get rich quick scheme to investors, if they have extra cash laying around they might invest in bitcoins.

Now your post in general shows how much you just do not understand currency trading, commodities and their power against each other.

First the Rouble is not part of the USD index thus has absolutely no power in USD value. Gold however is greatly influenced by the USD and vice Versa. if USD value goes up gold goes down. OIL that is just a heavily manipulated market everywhere in the world. those guys are worse than the banks.

So if in your post I see that the USD became stronger against rouble that tells me it is getting stronger by index because rouble has nothing to influence the USD value, in knowing this I would automatically ASSUME Gold and Oil will be decreasing, and guess what SO WILL SILVER Smiley

now why did the USD get stronger, Because of low inventories reported and high consumer buying, in November. But this is an expected movement but it could have been higher than expected. This in addition to maybe some gold contracts possibly getting bought about this time would heavily influence both gold and USD.

ADDED NOTE ( now if consumer spending increased higher than estimated what dopes that tell you about Bitcoins? NO ONE IS BUYING THEM OR USING THEM AND MORE PEOPLE ARE STILL USING CASH THAN WAS EXPECTED!!!!!)

Absolutely NONE of this however, has any influence on Bitcoins value or its demand as an investment.
You logic is really flawed. Rouble lost value. There are more currencies than USD and Rouble.
