621  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Big Is The Impact of Dell To Bitcoin? on: February 26, 2015, 09:21:23 AM
I am really amazed that people still don't understand how Bitpay works:

Merchants can decide to keep 0-100% of the Bitcoin they earn. There is no reason to believe that especially a company like Dell(with a lot of profit, so, they don't have to dump all BTC to pay their bills) wouldn't keep a fraction of their Bitcoin.
622  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why bitcoin will fail and this is why on: February 26, 2015, 09:11:56 AM
The comparision to Cannabis is really funny.
Do you realize that more and more countries are legalizing Cannabis?
That means, the burning down of Cannabis farms, wasn't much effective in killing Cannabis consume.
623  Economy / Speculation / Re: The proof of the Huge dump on: February 24, 2015, 10:22:28 AM

625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin becoming… fashionable? Like, literally. on: February 22, 2015, 07:56:15 PM

Bitcoin is becoming mainstream, that’s a fact. And it is little wonder that nowadays the cryptocurrency is even mentioned by people being seemingly too far from it.

- Read full article HERE and don't forget to comment below! Wink

for some parts of the world , yes it is becoming mainstream, but in some parts, like asia, i mean the majority of asia, i doubt that the word of cryptocurrency or bitcoins can be hardly heard,
Chinese do a lot of speculating with Bitcoin.
I often here, that people are moving to the Phillipines with their BTC-projects.
I have no idea, why you thing Asians haven't heard about Bitcoin.
626  Economy / Speculation / Re: New auction for 50000 btc from US marshalls! on: February 22, 2015, 07:51:05 PM
I really still think it was somewhat sketchy to sell the BTC. They wouldn't sell the 100$ bills they get from some drug raid for discounted rates, wouldn't they?

No, they wouldn't have to.  They'd put those bills directly in the bank because that's real money.
But yeah, seized money goes in the bank, they don't incinerate it, if that's what you mean.

Yea and why didn't they do something like this with the seized BTC? I bet there are all kinds of stuff they could have bought with them. Or donate them or something.

Because USMS is not as dumb as most Bitcoiners?
Because you don't get to tell USMS what to do?
Because USMS always auctions off seized criminal proceeds?

If those aren't reasons enough, here's another:
If USMS chose to hold BTC (what you feel is the equivalent of putting USD in the bank), the agents would discover, much to their chagrin, that their "saved" BTC has lost most of its buying power, i.e. the same coin that was worth $1,2000 in December is now worth $245 Sad
Like so:

So the question really shouldn't be "why did USMS choose to sell," but "WTF didn't you?"

627  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many of you still believe bitcoin will free you from paying tax one day? on: February 21, 2015, 09:39:42 PM
lol OP you have no idea .. bitcoin already frees 1000s of people from paying taxes.

It doesn't free us from tax , though it helps reduce it to a great deal if used extensively well!
Though i remember seeing a guy(legendary member) who turned his all pay and everything to bitcoin and use it! he might be avoiding alot of taxes for sure
If you are talking about Elwar, he is not avoiding taxes.

Yeah Elwar !
But why not , as i know he get's his pay converted to BTC and then he cashes them whenever needed and is using btc to buy things , he might not be avoiding them but decreasing to good extent
He pays his income tax before converting it to BTC and he doesn't have any choice about VAT, since merchants already put it on the price. He benefits from discounts he gets for paying with BTC, but that doesn't have anything to do with avoiding taxes.
628  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The Bter Exchange Cold Wallet return to zero.... on: February 21, 2015, 02:07:29 PM
I heard that cold wallets can be hacked. But never expected BTER to be hacked, specially because they are expected to keep it much much much more secure.
You heard wrong ...

630  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why Reduce the Block Reward? on: February 20, 2015, 09:03:05 AM
The coin is secured by the blockchain.
The blockchain is secured by the miner.
The miner is secured by the block reward.

So why reduce the block reward when it's unnecessary and detrimental to the security of the system? The problem is that the coinbase has a hard supply limit and no mechanism for deflation.

The block reward needs to remain constant until the very last coin is mined from the coinbase, and transactions need to expire after some time, a year for example, so that lost and abandoned coins can be returned to the coinbase. Expired transactions, and all previous transactions with no other dependencies, can then be pruned from the blockchain.
I read that often recently and it is just the worst idea, ever.
There are some many scenarios, where somebody wouldn't touch his coins for a year. Just look at my savings account, there is money lying around in case of an emergency and luckily emergencies don't come once a year.
631  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The Bter Exchange Cold Wallet return to zero.... on: February 20, 2015, 08:32:32 AM
but not a good move on their behalf saying it was stolen from cold wallet
A short exercice with a block explorer reveals that the wallet indeed was used as a cold wallet. Anybody can see that.
How can a block explorer tell you, that it was a cold wallet?
632  Economy / Speculation / Re: New auction for 50000 btc from US marshalls! on: February 19, 2015, 09:30:39 AM
People should avoid purchasing Bitcoin or any cryptocurrency from any government that did previously confiscate them.  Most Bitcoin users use Bitcoin because they wish to engage in a more FREE and a more PRIVATE management of their value/worth/wealth that is not subject to prying third party eyes (government or otherwise).

Anyone that purchases those coins from the government is no friend of freedom or liberty or privacy... instead they are simply one of but many slaves to fiat currency, as is policed by each its own respective government and world banking oversights.

The government will take the fiat proceeds of the Bitcoin sale and will apply that against more policing and prosecution of more people, namely people committing victimless crimes where all the participants were voluntary, and where Bitcoin or Tor or some other technological means of privacy was used, which to the government represents an enemy.

True Bitcoin believers and advocates seem far and few in-between, in that they've not the sense to speak out against such government actions relating to Bitcoin.

The Bitcoin community, at least the core community and those with the muscle and influence, should publicly denounce such auctions and encourage everyone in the Bitcoin community to not partake... to avoid it like the plague and to not give them anything other then what they've already stolen.

If they want to sell those Bitcoins, then let them go to the exchanges and sell try to sell them, but the community as a whole, including the exchanges should treat those Bitcoins like 'dirty' Bitcoins and have NOTHING to do with them, and not trade them... because after all, aren't they dirty Bitcoins?

633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who cares if Bitcoin goes mainstream? on: February 19, 2015, 07:55:26 AM
If Bitcoin going mainstream means that the average Joe pays less in taxes than that's great! Otherwise I think only the halves will benefit
from mainstream acceptance.
Bitcoin is not about paying less taxes.
Read the white paper.
634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Interesting Google search suggestions for Bitcoin on: February 18, 2015, 03:24:23 PM
Is the Bitcoin dead? No.
Is the Bitcoin logo trademarked? Not sure.. - I gonna search this too!
Is the Bitcoin a good investment? Definitely!
Is the Bitcoin the mark of the be***? What does this mean?
Is the Bitcoin legal? Depend on where you live..
Is the Bitcoin going to crash? No. It will never crash - at least it will last for a few more years..
Is Bitcoin the future? The near future. Bitcoin or another cryptocurrency will last until a new invention came out. Probably another thousands of years..
Is Bitcoin the one world currency? Not for now. However, it could be in the future.
Is Bitcoin the future of currency? Same as my last answer.

The mark of the beast and one world currency, i have heard this brought up to me a bit when I talk about Bitcoin because I live in the very religious Bible belt (I myself am also religious) This is what they're referring to
"He (the false prophet) was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast (antichrist), so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.
This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666."

It is the fear that a one world currency would lead to having to be marked to spend, the best thing about this is that Bitcoin could not be it since it is decentralized and able to spend without any mark or way for them to force this. This would have to be a fiat from a government who can print and control it.
This part is new to me.
I knew there was something about the bible and people are talking about chip implants in their hand to use bitcoin and that that is somehow related. Didn't know, the bible is about a paying system.
635  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Is Bitcoin for EVERYONE or just a new ELITE? Vote! on: February 18, 2015, 08:08:59 AM
I think the Bitcoin community is very clear on that question.
There are a few idiots, who most likely never read the white paper or SN's posts and completely misunderstand the concept of Bitcoin, who would disagree, but these people are not the majority, they are just very noisy.
636  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Raiffeisen verbietet mir Bitcoin. Welche Bank in Österreich geeignet? on: February 18, 2015, 07:30:57 AM

I'm curious if anyone has closed bank account for real and went all Bitcoin?

You can buy more and more things with Bitcoin but I still (for now).
You should follow Elwar's posts. He went full in.
638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why big companies like amazon don't accept bitcoin? on: February 17, 2015, 04:28:19 PM
re iphone: checkout overstock.com, tigerdirect.com, newegg.com if in US. i bought new samsung galaxy at overstock once they started accepting btc a while ago

Exactly, slowly but surely big businesses are making the switch. Meanwhile, small to medium size businesses like mine have been accepting since the early days  Grin
Innovation mostly comes from small businesses. Big businesses already have their user bases and every big change is just a risk for them to lose their users.
639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What can you -not- buy with bitcoin? Let's get that list down to zero by 2016 on: February 17, 2015, 02:26:39 PM
Sorry, but I don't think, this list is valid.
Buying giftcards or wait for someone to buy stuff for you and then pay him with Bitcoin is far away from the optimum.
I want to buy something spontaneous, easy to use and instant, not plan buying something days in advance.
640  Other / Politics & Society / Re: why isis kill people because they are different? on: February 17, 2015, 07:46:35 AM
Ladies and gentlemen I believe chavs have finally figured out how to use Bitcoin, seriously, my eyes are bleeding.

ISIS is a cult sprung from mainstream religion and simply follow tenets and beliefs that the rest of them would prefer to ignore and yes, they were funded by the CIA during the rebellion against Sadam Hussein and Assad.

CIA = ISIS ?

I just figured it out from your post and I'm kindda shocked

ISIS is getting more cruel than before  Angry

CIA = ISIS ? lol no, but they were funded previously by cia, and just like everything else americans touched, it turned against them.
ISIS doesnt deserve to be mentioned anywhere, they should just be eliminated by ground troops and left in the history. Noone sane would interpret Qur'an in the way they're doing it, but it doesnt take much for an madman to misinterpret anything to serve their delusional ideas.

But what would come out after ISIS is eliminated by ground troops? I don't think you can solve this only by bombing and killing people. I think it needs to be a more general approach: stop interfering in the region, funding extremist groups, and removing moderates. For example, stopping the support Saudi Arabia gets would do more to stop these problems occurring again in the future.
I don't see what is so hard to understand, that bombing anything doesn't solve much.
I remember this mini-game, where you had to bomb terrorist, but there were also civilians and if you bombed a civilian some of the other civilians become terrorists. It was impossible to bomb terrorist without hitting civilians, so the game was impossible to win.
Most people on this forum think they know economy, so I throw in a word you should be familiar with: incentive.
When you are lying in your whirlpool drinking cocktails, you have no incentive to bomb your self, so you get into some kind of paradise, since you already have that on earth.
When you are homeless in the middle east, with most of your family killed by US-drones, you have every incentive to follow the first knucklehead, that promise you a better live.
Even when you are unemployed in the middle of Europe, living in a small flat, you have enough incentive to join an extremist group, be it the same whackheads that promise you a better live in paradise or a Nazi group that tells you, live will get better if we get rid of all the Jews/Muslims/foreigners.
