It looks like it went with (E) atm.

Now which poor (lucky?) bastard wants to be WO listed owner?! A responsibility/challenge/opportunity unlike any other.  Cheesy

Anyone but Meuh6879!!!
This guy already showed he wants to be another dictator.

How about killer potleaf?  He seems to be an lucky (or unlucky) bastard who is not too likely to dictate anything - HOWEVER,  he seems to have gotten us WO fanboys (and fangirl) in this predicament in the first place by failing and refusing to take adequate measures to regain access to his adamstbit account.

He would be the best candidate for obvious reasons were he was willing to do it. If I have understood correctly what theymos said, they would just don't give a shit if anyone (trolls mostly) complain about offtopic or silly things just because they don't share an opinion or whatever, and it would be up to the moderator to do what he feels appropiate to maintain the thread in reasonable good shape. If that's true, anyone that is not a control-freak and that follows the rule of minimum intervention would be ok to me. My vote goes for Killerpotleaf.

180+ sell wall spotted @ Bitfinex @ $ ~2469

pulled?
5144  Other / Meta / Re: What to do with the wall observer thread? on: June 30, 2017, 02:39:23 AM
Your alternative option of leaving the thread and having mods police it seems to be the exact reason why Theymos and/or mods locked the thread because that is what they had been doing for about a year or so, and they do not want to continue doing that.
Yep, I re-re-read the choices and see option 1 is that option. Edited my post accordingly, still resisting urge to start posting stupid things here. I have a choo choo train image.....

Don't do it... or next thing we will have roach complaining why silver and gold are not choices in the poll... and what's worse, trying to convince theymos those are way better choices and the current ones are stupid and won't go anywhere. If that happens we can kiss goodbye our beloved Wall Observer.
5145  Other / Meta / Re: What to do with the wall observer thread? on: June 30, 2017, 01:57:32 AM
Doesn't that sort of negate or skew the results?

No, it's fine.

I particularly liked the diversity of the tangencial subjects discussed in the thread so, in consciousness, I can't vote for any of those three options. Not even in the slight expectation that a new moderator will be flexible about its rules or banning will occur only in very extreme and blatant cases. That'd be cheating. If any of those options are chosen and, for any reason, the offtopics continue we will be again at this point.

Since option 1 is in the lead, I already wrote a draft of a policy change for that one, possibly addressing your concerns:

Quote
The Wall Observer is now owned by the forum. The listed owner is responsible for maintaining it. If the owner fails to maintain it (ie. I start getting too many complaints), then they will be replaced.

The thread is exempt from the following rules from the perspective of bitcointalk.org mods:

- Off-topicness (in relation to either Speculation or the topic itself).
- Double-posting etc., within reason.

(The thread owner can and should enforce those rules to some degree, however.)

A warning will show up about the above rule exemptions when you try to report a post in the thread.

Signatures won't show up in the thread anymore.

Oh! I think that changes everything, but as the option says "and trust them to enforce on-topicness" I thought it was just another way of enforcing that only strict talk about walls would be allowed and that if the new owner/moderator wouldn't do it, he would be removed and the thread locked again.
5146  Other / Meta / Re: What to do with the wall observer thread? on: June 30, 2017, 01:37:26 AM
Very good move from Theymos allowing the participants of Wall Observer to express their opinion of what we would prefer about the future of the thread. Thanks!

I would like to say that before voting you should really take something into account:

- The WO, as it was for a long time, was mostly outside the strict scope of its title and rules. (Let's be honest about this).
- Only two (second and third) voting options could allow it to continue in the same or even remotely similar way as it was.
- The other three are just basically three ways to enforce that the thread keeps strictly on topic (wall observing) without ANY offtopic posts.

I particularly liked the diversity of the tangencial subjects discussed in the thread so, in consciousness, I can't vote for any of those three options. Not even in the slight expectation that a new moderator will be flexible about its rules or banning will occur only in very extreme and blatant cases. That'd be cheating. If any of those options are chosen and, for any reason, the offtopics continue we will probably end in the same situation.

I would have preferred the options were to be in a "General Speculation" section instead of "Offtopic" or "Chat", as I don't think it is neither of those but.... let's not be picky here, those are the options and if that means the WO thread can be preserved as it was, then it's ok to me.

Also, a totally offtopic and unmoderated thread is probably not something really desirable by anyone. So probably the best option is the third one (offtopic allowed with some moderators just to maintain some minimum order), but maybe the second one would be an interesting experiment.

If you want to only and strictly talk (and read) about walls with no reference to any other topics that might or might not be related to those walls, then you have the three other choices to decide how it could be better enforced (But please don't do it in the expectation that it will not be enforced ie: a new moderator like adamsgt was).

Just my opinion.

Thanks for the free coins!

Now... To hold or not to hold, that's the question.

It looks like this coin already had a considerable drop, maybe in part in anticipation of the giveaway. It also looks like the dump isn't being as hard... in fact it has risen since the giveaway. Maybe the dump was overdiscounted already?

Also on the last time I received some XLM from Kraken I ended up dumping them before the big rise....

On the other hand, what's this coin useful for? Is it bassically a Ripple clone without the hype?

it don't really matter if it has uses or not. it has presence and it ain't going anywhere in the markets plus the market cap is relatively modest.

dump a proportion now and sit on the rest.

That's what I have done: sold 20% for BTC and kept 80%. I like to diversify, and it is even easier when I got something for free. Noone knows what will happen in the future.
5148  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer Reloaded - Bitcoin price tracking & discussion on: June 30, 2017, 12:11:50 AM
Oh, thx, I guess I was doing something wrong.

So we could still have some sideways inside the triangule and even some downtrend up to 2400 without breaking it?

I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happen until the segwit2x issue is absolutely clear how it will go.
5149  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer Reloaded - Bitcoin price tracking & discussion on: June 29, 2017, 11:42:31 PM
$2600 is the number to watch at Bitstamp. The following chart shows that price is close to breaking out the upper trend line of a triangle that has been forming.

I have a question. Why did you choose the 6h chart for drawing the triangle? I mean... with other timeframes the triangule and its levels changes a lot. Why do you chose 6h chart?
5150  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer: BTC/USD Price Tracking and Discussion 2.0 (Unmoderated) on: June 29, 2017, 11:19:58 PM
Not to ruin the fantasy but all three threads are still inside Speculation section (where it should be, but....) so I guess there's no such thing as "unmoderated" and all rules still apply. If they were going to allow this, they would better just unlock the real WO and let it be.

Also, shouldn't we be discussing all of this in meta instead of doing it all over the new "reborn" threads? Otherwise this will be a crossposting nightmare.
5151  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer: BTC/USD Price Tracking and Discussion 2.0 (Unmoderated) on: June 29, 2017, 11:02:17 PM
This is getting out of hand. Maybe another better solution would be to create a new section in the forum named "Wall Observer" and move all these threads there.

Anyway it's a PITA to have to watch several threads at once. Everything was way easier when we had one single thread for all price speculation.
5152  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer Reloaded - Bitcoin price tracking & discussion on: June 29, 2017, 10:58:39 PM
And this is exactly why I fear so much Hard Forks in Bitcoin. Except in this case all these threads are forks that left the previous blockchain behind.

Let's see how this evolves and which one reflects better the spirit of the real WO.
5153  Economy / Speculation / Re: WALL Observer : BTC/USD price tracking and discussion (Phoenix Revision). on: June 29, 2017, 09:39:01 PM
The thing is I liked WO exactly as it was. Does that mean I liked every content? No. That I agreed with all opinions? Of course not!

It's the diversity of opinions and topics (some times only indirectly related to the main subject) that I liked the most.

I will never be in a forum or "discussion" where we all agree on everything. There's no learning possible in that situation and thus pointless for me.

I do agree that most of the time we were NOT talking about walls as the title and rules of the thread would suggest.

I understand that for the participants of WO that were ONLY interested in STRICT Wall Observing, the actual content of the thread was probably a PITA for them as they would prefer a thread with only a couple posts every few days (when walls are spotted nowadays).

Maybe a possible solution would be (as theymos suggested) moving the classic WO with all its previous content to offtopic section so that it can go on exactly as it was and leave this thread for strict Wall Observing? That way people can choose what way to go and time will tell which is the preferred choice... or just simply happily coexist both alternatives.

1) Gifs/Meme allowed (please use "img width=300" to 600).
2) Multi-quote too long will be deleted (don't be lazy ... prune your quote).
3) ALTS are forbidden, use the right section for this (post will be deleted).
4) Gifs/Meme not linked to discussion will be deleted (be smart, play the game with others).
5) Links not related to subject will be deleted (OK, you see the goal ? The title of this thread !)

What's a wall thread ? Here is an explain :
http://www.investopedia.com/news/buy-and-sell-walls-cryptocurrencies-bitcoin-ethereum-ether-ripple/
I understand that blatant shilling of alts is forbidden but... Any reference to them is forbidden? Is it allowed when it is related to the price of Bitcoin? ie: *censored* market cap grows over Bitcoin and that causes a crash... or the oppossite, *censored* crash hard and bitcoin moons... can we comment those movements?

Or... When Segwit signaling keeps growing and is clear it will pass, can we reference how *censored* mooned when the same happenned and compare the two graphs, etc...

TL;DR; Any reference to altcoins is estrictly forbidden or does it depends on its context and relevant price influence over Bitcoin?

P.S.: I don't observe any relevant walls at this moment.

5155  Economy / Speculation / Re: WALL Observer : Death and Rebirth of Prices, Crashes and Lifes. on: June 29, 2017, 02:22:11 AM
This message by Theymos explains the most recent locking of the previous Wall Obs. thread:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1990962.msg19827736#msg19827736

Indeed, if you have an opinion on the future of the thread, that's where it should be voiced. Personally prefer for the old topic to be unlocked and moved to off-topic, rather than rebirthing it in bastardised form here.

I do agree. I did in fact enjoyed most of the "offtopic" (isn't all speculation?) in Wall Observer. Let's face it... there's not that much walls to observe this days, and most of the times they are irrelevant to the price in comparison with other stuff (yes, altcoins and even complete shitcoins too!).

Heck, I even had some fun with the trolling of roach and his shiny metals. Or the ridiculous memes.... everything.

I vote for moving the old thread to offtopic or some other section where it could keep as it were. Maybe we could ask theymos to temporaly unlock it and make a poll about what most people want to do with the thread?

anyone heard of this? it's the first time i've seen or heard of it.

i assume there are gonna be more hardware wallet companies popping up. i wonder whether there'll be some questionable ones.

What a bunch of rabbish in that website. That's NOT a hardware wallet by any means. Buyers beware, and stick with the popular Ledger/Trezor (Maybe Keepkey too).
5157  Economy / Speculation / Re: WALL Observer : Death and Rebirth of Prices, Crashes and Lifes. on: June 29, 2017, 01:47:13 AM
Let the longest thread survive.

I am trying to post in the original thread but it seems the difficulty is too high for my posting power. No single post has been mined since this morning. If we don't do something the original wall observer thread will die. Maybe change PoW?

#movetheoriginalthreadtometaandunlockit

Do you mean this one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=85687.0

What if I told you that the original wall observer thread was not the original wall observer thread?  They have destroyed it many times before... https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/f15da6a9-ab8b-4b49-b7b9-29f8e03a4641

Oh, didn't know that.... Why did it happen last time? I don't think there were too much altcoins talk in early 2013, or did were?
5158  Other / Meta / Re: Wall Observer Thread locked? on: June 29, 2017, 01:08:42 AM
We speculate that absolutely anything can affect the usd price. Everything is on topic.
I can buy video games with Bitcoin. Therefore I should be able to talk about the new Call of Duty game in Bitcoin Discussion, right?

Hint: Wrong.

If that popular game suddenly included in-game payments in Bitcoin or something like that, maybe, because that could have a great influence on the price. If amazon or eBay started accepting Bitcoin, also maybe.

Some altcoin movements have considerable influence in present and future price of Bitcoin, most of the time much more than any walls that we could observe.

It's all pure speculation... but maybe you are right and the thread would be better in another section.
