301  Economy / Economics / Re: Poor people need solution now on: February 10, 2024, 04:07:18 AM
Let's be real, making a currency nobody else uses and the government ain't cool with is more trouble than it's worth. It's like starting your own language – confusing and probably illegal. Bartering's a different story, but then you don't even need a fancy new currency, right?
Bitcoin was successful at doing just that, I think that it's a matter of positivity and at the same time utility of the token because if you create a token just because you want to without any predetermined purpose from the start then what you're saying is definitely the right thing that's going to happen. Also, your analogy of creating a language is confusing too because it's not that difficult or worth more trouble than it's worth if you know what you're doing, look at Ithkwil.
302  Economy / Economics / Re: Coping with Risk. on: February 10, 2024, 03:15:39 AM
The way that you worded those choices leaves us no way to weigh in on what's better since they both got a lot of risks involved in them, I'd rather go for the one that will give the most rewards which would be B. It's an online investment and I don't think that there's no way that I'll pass up on something that's high risk and high reward investment, sure it's prone to hacks or scams but the pay off for a little money wouldn't hurt and with a physical business, you're going to be spending more because you're going to need to hire people and save money for upkeep cost for the business.
303  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Too much pressure on the male child on: February 09, 2024, 08:50:09 AM
That's cause we live in a patriarchy, what did you expect? Probably even worse if we live in a matriarchal society if I'm being honest, I mean look at it this way, being a male has privileges, when we need work, we almost always have more chances of finding a job as most works involve manual labor and stuff, I think that pressure is different in each household so it's a matter of who your parents are.
304  Other / Meta / Re: Other Forum members are more civil than Legendary members, Why? on: February 09, 2024, 08:04:03 AM
I mean honestly some of the legendary folks probably do feel more important in a sense and maybe have that cocky or bully persona about them but a very small percentage of these which I have honestly seen my share of as well. I just laugh because it shows their true character an the inability to put a cap on your emotions and others emotions as well.
I don't think not all of them are like that, some of them just really want to get out what they want to say out there and some just don't like it I guess. Bad Legendaries aren't like bad apples anyway, just cause there's someone out there that's diva attitude or feeling like they've got all the power, that don't mean that it's all of them. I don't like the idea of putting cap on emotions, that's weird and robotic dude, I want the conversations to be organic if possible.
305  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitcoin CPU on: February 09, 2024, 07:32:57 AM

Ask your company.

~

The chance is extremely low, you can use Bitcoin mining calculator to know the exact chance. Anyway, you may be caught if someone monitor the network and found out there's network connection to Bitcoin mining pool.
I've done my research about this thing and yes, I don't think that it's a good idea to be buying this unless you've got your own computer, I didn't ask my company since I don't think they'll even be able to do it with the Internet here being so slow.
306  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Small Farm (50 S19's) Networking Guidance on: February 09, 2024, 06:48:25 AM
~
This is a VERY basic setup. There are better and more secure ways to do this, however this is just how I do mine. It's literally a PC with remote desktop access (you could use the Windows one if you have a professional version of windows, or use a 3rd party app such as VNC), connected to the same network as the miners. That's it! 'Remote desktop' means an app that lets you control the PC remotely (e.g. you log in to the computer remotely, you will see the screen of that computer on yours, and your keyboard and mouse will control the PC as if you are using the keyboard / mouse connected to it). You will need to install some monitoring software on the PC (I use BTC Tools by Bitmain, which is free and supports all make of miners).

As for power outages, miners just start mining again automatically when the power comes back on - there is no need for user intervention. For your PC, you can install a relatively cheap expansion card that will restart the PC after a power cut, or there are probably other easy ways to make your PC come back on after a power cut, wake over LAN for example... A backup generator is pointless as it will almost certainly cost more to run than the miners will generate bitcoin, or if you have a generator large enough (such as gas turbine) then you'd probably be using that as your main power source anyway. For 50 modern miners (~800kW) , you'd need a generator in the 1 MW+ range. It would likely be the size of a 40ft shipping container (in fact it would probably be mounted inside one).

As for remote locations, if there's adequate power infrastructure to your premises to run 50 miners, there should be broadband available too - however you could use a 4G router if there is a cell mast near enough, or alternatively a satellite solution such as Starlink.
Wow, so much is needed even at a basic set up like this, how much is your capital in all of this? The basics for this seems to me like a lot of money. Starlink got the hype last year in my country but there doesn't seem to be enough people that wants to take on it. How's your profit on this monthly though? Have you got to the ROI yet?
307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it okay for Bitcoin Core development to be funded by Banks? on: February 09, 2024, 06:16:39 AM
Yeah I don't think that's a good idea, sure they've got the money but it's out of what Satoshi and bitcoin stands for, freedom from the traditional banking system. Remember that when this happens, these banks will surely try to put in their ideas on how bitcoin should work and should process so it's not a good idea, it will be a problem that will present itself when it's too late already.
308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador has become the first country to make #Bitcoin legal tender! 🇸🇻 on: February 09, 2024, 04:50:43 AM
El Salvador recently started a pilot education project in their country

Through this education project, students in El Salvador will learn how to set up, manage and operate Liquidity on Lightning Nodes as well as coding. I think it's amazing to see students learn coding skills and get hands-on experience in setting up, operating, and managing the fluidity of a Lightning node. With these, Bitcoin will probably become more popular in El Salvador and students will get a lot of hands-on experience with Bitcoin.
That's awesome, they're making it real what other crypto enthusiasts from other countries can only dream of and this is what education should be, learning only what you will use when you get into the real world, probably the best thing that anyone can do, I hope that this will be a success because if it's a success then it's going to be an example of an education that prepares you for real world applications which would make it an interesting thing for other countries to check out.
309  Economy / Economics / Re: "Shrinkflation" is coming back as a narrative on: February 08, 2024, 09:46:15 AM
Shrinkflation isn't a new term, if I recall correctly, it's a phenomenon where due to the constant economic turmoil due to inflation, the size of the once beloved products are subjected to downsizing and the downsizing of the product can be subtle or obvious, with obvious one, you'd easily see it with their packaging and the weight of the product and with the subtle, they just create the product a bit more smaller than what it used to or skimp on ingredients, there's also one time where they sell fun size of some chips due to this, shrinkflation is a subtle one at best because you don't see it and piece it together once you saw it.
310  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy bitcoin now? on: February 08, 2024, 08:58:27 AM
As what the others have already said, use DCA to slowly get into the bitcoin market, no need to be asking too much and then end up not investing on it at the end of the day, also it would help that you have a price goal where you will buy a lot bitcoins, it's the same thing with goal on selling price, it's just the opposite of it. Bitcoin will always be worth it because it will go up no matter what happens and when it does, you're going to regret not buying when it was at this price range, so either choose regret for a lifetime or a temporary pain of seeing your total bitcoin net worth go down due to the volatility of the market.
311  Economy / Speculation / Re: Signs you should know to take profit from your crypto investment on: February 08, 2024, 07:57:06 AM
2. Reaching personal target goals
This has saved me a lot of heartaches and regrets, I was able to dodge bad profit taking moments in favor of waiting for the goal to be reached and at the same time it helped me be strict and disciplined about my hodling, I was able to save up more bitcoin than I could think of because I have a goal price, I also like to add that you also should make your price goal unrealistic to many people so you know that you're going to be serious about your hodling and it will keep you from spending it all for something unnecessary, I do sometimes see the potential profit that I will get if I sell my bitcoin by multiplying it with my current goal and so far, that encourages me to even go beyond with my hodling.
312  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K Challenge on: February 08, 2024, 06:54:19 AM
This is a really awesome challenge, would be awesome if you've got a YouTube channel where you post this though, added engagement too. I do think that the 100 push ups is a difficult number but that depends on how you're with push ups, have you been doing push ups consistently? Or this is a spur of the moment thing because if that's the case then 100 is too much, maybe even 10 push ups is already going to be difficult especially for non athletic people that don't have much activities with their body, push up may look straightforward but it's a difficult thing to do especially if you want to do the proper one.
Is there any other option out there? Cheesy
Do 100 mile run in a week, 100 squats in a week (100 daily isn't recommended unless you're not going anywhere and you don't mind using your legs for a few days), 100 triceps dips, the 100 symbol is the important thing here after all. Or maybe even plan a workout routine that will set you to go to 100 daily, much better for your body than only one exercise.
313  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin has never pass ATH before halving but it has always dip don't panic. on: February 06, 2024, 04:05:06 PM
Good reminder and it's always a good thing to continue with your usual DCA routine and if you ever feel like the price of bitcoin is going to go down, just wait and see if it dips and then buy a lot of it so you're getting more value but still do a disciplined DCA just in case the price will go down more, I hope that there's less newbies that will fall for this and that a lot of people that's been here for a long time should remind their friends about this too so they can at least help out even just a little.
314  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will government recognition kill cryptocurrency or boost! on: February 06, 2024, 03:25:20 PM
Will definitely boost but it will kill the retail investors or even the possibility of the prices going back to cheaper prices, with a lot of government adopting crypto, there's a high chance that they're going to inject a lot of money on it to make sure that they're investment are going to worth it and they would make sure to pump it continuously for as long as they can because they want to make sure that they're not going to be affected by the volatility thus ends up with the crypto that's going to be adopted by the country to not go lower at such a drastic level.
315  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who is buying like me on: February 06, 2024, 01:46:19 PM
too late to say this because I started buying long before this thread was created, and long before the ETF was even approved. I don't care about the ETF decision because I'm sure whatever the outcome, the price of bitcoin will continue to increase over time. but let's dance together because ETFs are approved  Grin
Good for you, that means that you're going to get a really huge profit, your only problem now is the temptation to sell so quickly for a small profit when you can potentially hodl a little longer, the way you speak about it is that you're confident that you van hodl for a long time so I'm believing what you're saying. Don't forget to still accumulate though, DCA is still a good thing to do so you can maximize potential profit and at the same time you're not having a stagnant investment.
316  Economy / Economics / Re: A course worth studying ? on: February 04, 2024, 09:35:00 AM
Anything tech related is a good course to study but right I feel like there's a shift that a lot of us don't know yet and a few feel is happening and I don't think that it's going to be enough to just have one college degree, you might also benefit from getting an apprenticeship from a trade school or maybe even doing those vocational courses that's still related to technology like computer servicing, automotive, electronic engineering and maybe even plumbing because right now, I feel like there's too many college graduates but too few skilled workers.
317  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto investment vs real estate investment : Which one more dependable? on: February 04, 2024, 08:51:02 AM
With that much capital, I'd say that you're better off going for crypto investment but the only problem that I can see with this is that you should know your risk tolerance because if you're the kind that would panic when your investment of $2500 turns into $1000 overnight because of the volatility of cryptocurrency market then you better not do anything drastic like investing all of your money in crypto, maybe if it's bitcoin I'd advice you to just invest even if you've got a bad risk tolerance but since I assume it's more than just bitcoin then I don't advice you to put all that money in one go and I don't think that you can even put that money into real estate investment, unless you're pooling your money together, you wouldn't be able to even afford to get into real estate because that much money is peanuts.
318  Economy / Economics / Re: If you want to get rich, you have to become immune to the money.......! on: February 04, 2024, 08:05:56 AM
  • Do not desire your own money. It turns you from a producer to a consumer.
How does this actually work or can you like give me an example where someone desires their money? Is this the same thing as always chasing the money and not thinking about the other people because if yes then I don't think that it will turn you into a consumer but more like a ghoul that only sees dollar signs and doesn't have any priorities besides getting money.
  • Do not desire the money of others. Envy is a deadly sin. Because it will distract you from your own mission.
I don't think that it's wrong to envy someone when they've got money, don't the envious nature that other people exudes a good thing for someone to be inspired to be like them? Sure there are cases that envy is taken to a whole another level but I believe that there's nothing wrong with being envious of the riches of other people.
  • Do not desire the money you will make in the future. Desire good work right now, You don't want cash in, you want to serve.
That's the favorite line of any bosses of any company out there, work hard but don't expect to get paid by the worth of your hard work, that shouldn't be the case, people should always be compensated by how much work they've done in a company and if that's not the case then raise the minimum wage so people can at the least survive with just that pay for that work.
319  Economy / Economics / Re: are we returning to stone age? on: February 04, 2024, 07:15:02 AM
I don't think that it's possible, the people that's controlling this world and influencing the action of the masses doesn't have that kind of interest for us to return to that and even if that's the case, I don't believe that we're going to back there so quickly even with a nuclear war that would either reset civilization or destroy it, it's really difficult for us to devolve with all the wealth of knowledge that we've got overtime, the probability that we're going back to that age is nigh impossible at the moment.
320  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: What is best way to maintain your privacy sending payment with Electrum wallet? on: February 04, 2024, 06:42:20 AM
~
There are many benefits of running a full bitcoin node which the major reason is privacy, with full node you will not need to connect to any other public nodes since you’re running your own this basically the main reason for bitcoin core wallet. But let’s assume you want to use an SPV wallet like electrum or sparrow you can be able to switch servers this way it is possible to set up your own electrum server like electraX and then connects it to your own full node. This way you can even use cold wallets like hardware wallets with your own electrum server which is basically your own node.

Here is a thread by n0nce how to do that https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5366854.0

Mind you running a bitcoin node plus this personal electrum server requires you to have enough storage space. Some people opt for pruned node but with prune node you can’t sync a new wallet or even a new address that wasn’t there before the pruned node because it might have to redownload the entire blockchain again ( since prune node doesn’t store all blocks)
Thanks for the guide and I'm not really a technical specialist or an expert in crypto stuff so it's going to take me awhile to fully understand the guide because there's a lot of things that I don't understand on just the surface, I might just go for it and start experimenting right away and then ask the questions along the way when the problems arises. I'll also take a gander at that pruned node, seems like a good cost cutting method to run one.
