401  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: GAMBLING DISORDER on: January 18, 2024, 07:55:45 AM
That's a severe case already OP, if you can still do it, try going to a rehabilitation center or a mental healthcare professional to assess and help you with your issue, I know that depression is a difficult thing to get out of but remember that your sadness and loneliness that you're feeling is justified and it's no reason to end your life because there's more to it, you may not see it yet because of the veil that's put on you by that extreme feelings of sadness but it's there and you don't have to be so quick about your recovery, take the time to do it even if it's snail's pace, take that step. I can't really sympathize or get exactly what your feeling because we've got different experiences but I do believe that we're all the same when it comes to the fact that there's good things coming in the future.
402  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling by financial dependents. on: January 18, 2024, 07:22:12 AM
Are you really sure that your nephew is doing what he's telling you and that he's not going to be a problem with that gambling habit of his? The reason for that question is that children and teenagers like your nephew is likely to lie about stuff and tell what you want to hear from them so either they got to do something about this habit because it looks innocent and harmless at first but it's going to be a problem right before your eyes and it's going to catch everyone off-guard, that's how it works. Tell your nephew too that there are other better ways that he can spend his money that's not even his money in the first place, teach him to invest or get a healthier hobby.
403  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: cashout or wait till the end? on: January 18, 2024, 06:37:35 AM
If that happened to me, I wouldn't think long about not cashing out because that alone is enough to give me a very big profit considering the stake is also quite big (for me) because I think cashing out that amount of money is a very big profit. We can rarely cash out that much money and we shouldn't be too greedy to want to get more remembering that sometimes there are always surprises that we don't expect. Don't wait until the final and your bet fails because it will be even more painful for you so it's better if you have an opportunity like that. It's better to cash out and enjoy your winnings so you don't regret not cashing it out.
Would be hard to do that if that ever happened to you because there's a what if that's going to happen when you're in that position, that what if being that "what if I continue and make more money from the win?" at that time you will be torn about cashing out and thinking of the things that could have happened but hasn't happened yet. Sure that's the thing that we should keep in mind, "not be greedy" but the problem is that your mind is racing at that point and you can't think straight because your neurons are firing up because you're trying to process all the possibilities and the what ifs that can happen if you do this or do that which ends to a point where you forgot the thing the right thing to do.
404  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I could have won bigger. on: January 18, 2024, 05:43:44 AM
~

Could have won bigger, or could have lost more. We would never know that. Smart move would be stop living with the past and move on. Smart move would be not being angry on a friend because of those  $10. If he was really a friend, that helping a friend cost more than winning more money. If they were not good friend, that OP should also be happy, because for only $10 he has get rid of a fake friend. $10 for finding out who you really can trust is nothing, believe me. From that situation OP should have learned, that friends > money. He would have won more and spend them, but friend will always be friend. It is better not to measure everything with money.
That's not really the point, the outcomes already certain, that OP has won the money and the thing that he was regretting the most was that he let that friend borrow the money which could've increased his potential wins, it's not living in the past, that's just hindsight and it's always 20/20. Totally agree with not everything is about money but the lesson here is that promises shouldn't be spoken and taken lightly, they might be just words but they should be taken seriously, I don't like that kind of friend that promises something and then turns back their word on it, that person will stab you in the back, you and them don't know it yet but that's a sign of a friend that's only there for your prosperity and times of fun.
405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how wasabi, electrum, exodus ... make money ? on: January 17, 2024, 03:45:59 PM

Completly true, i guess that the 80% of the times they put their pocket money.
That's actually amazing, and another thing about them is that they're also really brilliant people, imagine that this isn't their main work and that this is just a side project for them in a way because they don't receive any money and most of the time they spend their own money, they're definitely something. This should be the guys any programmers should aspire to be, someone that creates and invents not recreate and reinvent.
406  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin Is Punk!" - Long-form Interview with Finnish Pleb Rocker Rami Korhonen on: January 17, 2024, 02:46:00 PM
Totally agree with that statement, bitcoin challenges the status quo and spits on it's face, that's how punk is ever since and I do believe that bitcoin is the modern equivalent of that punk part, punk didn't die, it just evolved and adapted itself to criticize the current situation that needs a change. It's refreshing to see other people from outside the tech industry embroiled in crypto because I don't expect a lot of them to be enthusiastic about it but Rami is an exception to that rule.
407  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Gold, land which better? on: January 17, 2024, 01:45:15 PM
Bitcoin's the least of the best because in the event that the market really did collapse, I don't think that we're getting bitcoin to help us because it's going to most likely be affected really fast. Gold is a good one in the case of an economic meltdown because precious metals has always been valuable, land is a bad thing because as we all should've known about land, revolution and means of production is that land can easily be taken away from someone, by paper or by force so land is a bad idea. But for your purpose of convincing them, just show them how bitcoin was about 14 years ago, that would be enough to tell them that for the long-term investment, it's going to give your family the profit so in the hopes that a global economic depression never happens, bitcoin is the way to go.
408  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wallet suggestions? on: January 17, 2024, 11:03:54 AM

Have you ever had this bad experience, friend? It seems that if you share your experience of how the problem occurred, it will be more helpful for someone new so they don't repeat the same mistake. I realize that security for cold wallets has received good feedback from many people, but with rumors like this, I have doubts about your statement.

I don't take lightly the warning you gave. However, I am a little surprised about this, because there is also a bad possibility for someone who wants to buy a cold wallet like Trezor and Ledger. Spontaneously in my heart I said "What... how could that actually happen?"
I didn't have the experience but there are stories shared in a local group in my country about this, they bought it at a vendor that's not the seller for Trezor and when they transferred all of their altcoins in there, they're surprised and saddened by the discovery that all the altcoins and NFTs stored in there is gone because they've somehow faked the anti tampering of the wallet to make it look like it's safe at first glance. I don't exactly know how these scumbags do it but they have a way of tampering it, iirc Trezor has a seed phrase right? They might've done something about that part. You don't need to worry too much, just buy it on the official store and you'll know that you're safe.
409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how wasabi, electrum, exodus ... make money ? on: January 17, 2024, 10:21:54 AM
Electrum relies on donations.  Exodus is a company.  Wasabi earns from coinjoins fees.
Electrum doesn't rely on donations, @ThomasV said that they'd rather have those donations go to the servers that help Electrum run efficiently. But I do think that they do deserve to get some form of compensation for what they do, coding and maintaining a reliable service is difficult you know.
410  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there any way to pay for AWS using Bitcoin? on: January 17, 2024, 09:03:27 AM
The unavailability of this options and having only a fiat middlemen/alternative is why we're still yearning for a bitcoin adoption. AWS is a really useful service and it's still baffles that Amazon hasn't touched upon this payment option yet because this is a thing that should happen already, it's 2024 and I believe it's high time that a lot of companies are still not doing any of this, I'm sure they're going to profit from it.
411  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why don't you use DEX? on: January 16, 2024, 05:36:06 PM
Because people find DEXes, when dealing with fiat at least to be less convenient, slower, and have a lack of liquidity so they don't mind giving up their identity if that means being able to buy and sell within a couple of minutes.
This is definitely my reason for why I still use CEX for when I'm dealing with my cryptocurrency or bitcoin in general, it's much faster as they've got the money to quickly do it and they've got more advertisements compared to DEX out there so you don't know which one's do a really good job not to mention that I feel like it's more easy to use CEX than DEX but that's just me, maybe I'm just too lazy to try out DEX.
412  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paying house rent with bitcoin is it appropriate? on: January 16, 2024, 04:49:27 PM
I don't think appropriate is the right word, what I think it should be is available since there's the implication of options but to me, I do believe that it's a bit difficult to do that anyway, I don't think paying your rent with bitcoin is going to do you any favor, bitcoin is almost like an asset already so I don't think that it's a good idea to use it for your rent, you'll only going to make the landlord more richer than you and you will end up with nothing but regret when the price starts going up so word of advice, don't do it.
413  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wallet suggestions? on: January 16, 2024, 08:49:47 AM
If you want real safe solutions, use cold wallets. The problem is only that they not support all of the altcoins. Ledger or Trezor is a good choice. Cheers  Wink
Be careful when buying this wallets because there's some people out there that's scamming people that buy these products by selling a tampered cold wallets so you better be smart as to where you're going to buy, buy at their official websites and stores and not just from individuals that's saying that they're selling it for a lower price.
414  Economy / Speculation / Re: Best time to buy Bitcoin is around the time of Bitcoin Halving: April 22, 2024 on: January 16, 2024, 07:48:17 AM
You can do it any time because bitcoin investment is a long time project and if you want to invest in alt coins then you can buy from now because bitcoin halving is not much time if you see the previous halvings the market starts a lot of bull run after halving so  You can buy from now but before buying you should have a thought in your mind that whatever you buy buy on DCA method.
What OP is pointing out is that you can maximize your purchasing value if you buy bitcoin 2 months before the halving because that's the time that bitcoin is at its lowest and then start a really huge price pump that would lead to some getting more profit out of the bitcoin that you've brought. Yes, what you're saying is correct but you should also know when to get the most when opportunity presented itself like what OP is saying.
415  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are successful gamblers seen as addicts? on: January 15, 2024, 10:04:53 AM
That would be nice but the problem is that no matter if that person new to gambling won and got away I think still he would be back at some time so most likely they will become addict as they will think that winning is easy and will keep losing becoming true gamblers.I don't know anyone that has done just that, won big and moved away from gambling and enjoyed life and never looked back.Difficult to do that so we have yet to see one such person.
This is the likely scenario because it's close to zero when it comes to people that are not going back to gambling anymore after winning a large amount of money. You never knew anyone because as I've said, there's not a lot of them to begin with. Successfulness can be considered an addiction and not an addiction, it can depend on the context, say if you're a gambler that's not playing a lot of times but you're winning a lot in those times then you're not an addict but you're successful and on the other hand, you can be considered an addict if you're constantly playing but at the same time you're winning a lot in those consistent plays.
416  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I could have won bigger. on: January 15, 2024, 08:55:04 AM
the guy said he would return the $10 back ASAP after 3 hours
The moment that he said this, you should've never let that man get the money because that's a big sign that the person that's trying to borrow that money from you isn't going to respect you or the promise that they've given about the loan, too bad you could've made a bigger bet but it is what it is, the thing that you can do in that situation is to just to learn not to let that person borrow money from you again. Remember that when it comes to money, this is bound to happen, people not keeping their word and with those kinds of promises they actually make you let your guard down against them because it's a form of assurance that the money is going to go back to you.
417  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Know when to stop on: January 15, 2024, 07:47:25 AM
* Stop when you have a big winning, by channeling the money somewhere else so you won't lose it back to gambling.
Good advice but remember that this isn't a frequent for a lot of games so make sure to know what's the amount of winning that you're truly going to stop because big is a relative or subjective term for each individual so make sure that you've got a metric or something like that. For me, it's when the win is reaching the thousand dollars territory, I always quit playing after a win like that and so far I haven't won that amount in a long time.

* Stop when you are not even winning at all, it's not your thing.
Difficult to do because your lose streak is definitely going to make you frustrated which makes you want to play even more in the hopes that you might hit the win and make all the frustrations go away. The better thing to do rather than this would be to set a time or duration for your gambling rather than setting an amount of losses before quitting.
418  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't only pray for mass adoption, start HODLING!! on: January 14, 2024, 11:52:59 PM
Profound but I'm telling you that people that are talking about mass adoption are long term bitcoin hodlers so they know what they're about when it comes to mass adoption and there's no way that someone's believable if they're not fully into it in the first place right? I wouldn't want a revolutionary talking about bitcoin or cryptocurrency being liberating against the oppressive financial institutions when they don't have any bitcoins in their name, that's hypocritical and goes to show where you really stand and what you are as a person.
419  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if authorities launch a tax for owning bitcoin? on: January 14, 2024, 11:26:50 PM
That would be a scary thought but how would they know how to target the people that are hodling or as you say owning a bitcoin? Because I can't understand how they'll be able to do that when there's a pseudonymous feature that bitcoin offers and we can all just put all of our bitcoins back to a non-custodial wallet so as to prevent the potential subpoena to get the data from the exchanges which is unlikely especially with international exchanges. The thing that's going to happen though is that people are definitely going to stop talking about bitcoin or crypto openly so as not raise any suspicions that they own bitcoin but I think that the ones that would hide are those that have a really small amount of bitcoin, those that have a lot of bitcoin wouldn't probably mind paying.
420  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin ETF Approval; Price dumps, what Next? on: January 14, 2024, 12:53:00 PM
It's a good sign in my opinion, the price going down means that it's giving us an opportunity to buy more and not think too much about all of this because at the end of the day, bitcoin will inevitably go back up and then go to the moon which it always does, I still don't get why people are so scared and panicky about bitcoin going down in prices when this has happened before and bitcoin reached an ATH.
