Awesome thanks, georgem!

Use with caution, it is still in beta-stage.
(So for example don't use it to send/receive large amounts of SPR in combination with the vanity-gen-addresses generated.... yet)

So I'd be glad if you gave me some feedback after you have done some testing on mac.

We have found some bugs with the windows version and improved it, but no real testing has happened yet on a mac.

So in effect this means that the mac version is buggier than windows still.

Thanks.

The other 500 SPR bounty is for signing a message, so I take it you're going to do that in the second video?
Yeah, I just need the details. I though you said somewhere we weren't going to need to do that (in the competition)?
I wasn't sure so I didn't put it into the video to avoid possible confusion.

Well, this is turning out to be a pilot, so perhaps in the video we just need to show how to sign a message within an SPR wallet, say using 2 SPR, and then show how that looks in the block chain.

Message could be:  I'm entering the Dogecoin ShibesMoon van gen competition

I think the mechanics will change as we run the pilot, but the basics of using the vanity generator and signing a message will likely be key features, even if the actual content changes.

Spreadcoin Project Weekly Update #2

14th August 2015

Development Update

Just a short update this week.  This week has been a week of head down work from the devs.

Georgem has continued to work on his new coin visualisation tool.  One of the challenges he is facing is how to depict such a huge volume of information in a useful and graphical way.  To solve this problem, georgem is using open GL 2D acceleration so he can render the data at 60fps (with the facility to buffer and slow it down).  We promised a more specific roadmap to set expectations for when service node testing would be ready for testnet however this tool is a pre-requisite for an accurate estimation of our next steps.  Please be patient while this very cool tool is completed. Georgem is very excited to show you what it can do.

Chaositec is back on dry land, has an internet connection again and is restarting work on his multipool with Spreadcoin pay-outs.  X11 and Scrypt testing has proved to be very successful with Sha256 still to come.  Chaositec is going to resume work on the Bitcoin core update once the multipool is ready for its next beta test.

Find My Doge  Cool

After much debate the dev team and community are in almost unanimous agreement that a “find SatoshiNakamoto” vantitygen competition is a great idea.  In order to test the mechanics of such a competition, Coins101 is going to launch a vanitygen competition on the Dogecoin sub-Reddit with a 4 million Dogecoin prize fund for finding various Doge related Spreadcoin addresses.  More details and competition rules will be posted here and on the Doge sub-Reddit when it is launched.

Other News

The core development team has written a proposal to replace Bitcoin coinbase mining rewards.  This BIP (Bitcoin Improvement Proposal) is inspired by PoBN and how service nodes will become an overlay network to Spreadcoin and Bitcoin.  This has important parallels with the application of the Spreadcoin economy.

Minerpage made a very interesting post on BCT that the number of Bitcoin Full Nodes continues to fall (8% since Q1 2015) which adds gravitas to the requirement for Spreadcoin’s PoBN (Proof of Bitcoin Node) service.

E1ghtSpace has produced a video tutorial on how to use vanitygen.  Thanks E1ghSpace!   You can watch it here:  http://youtu.be/tfGrQ6vgyq0

What do you mean by "show how that looks on the block chain"?

So basically they need to send 2 spr to an address and then sign the message from that address?

Brainwallet is dead because it is so insecure. Someone sent 50 btc to the brainwallet "" (blank) and somesone stole it instantly.
Also someone had a lot of bitcoins in the brainwallet "how much wood could a wood chuch chuck if a wood chuch could chuck wood" and it got stolen. But it was given back I think (the guy that found it was a white hat "hacker").

Then said guy made a slideshow on why brainwallets are so bad and he released(?) his program to the public so now everyone can have a go cracking them.

Slideshow here: https://rya.nc/cracking_cryptocurrency_brainwallets.pdf

Everything here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1147035.0

What is that reference for? I guess we just need a website where the person who finds the address signs a message from it and posts it in a text box on the website. The website then validates it and if it is legit, notifies you to send the coins. Wait, is this in spreadcoins or bitcoins?

May I suggest that you might adapt a "how to" from this one http://eligius.st/~capa66/utl/my_eligius/index.html

.........This was a bitcoin mining pool how to for adding a merge mining address with specific diffs and payout parameters, which shows how to use signing and a passing signature.

This will be fun  Grin

Sorry to blow up this page, finally getting time to participate a little here.....

When searching for the vanity addresses....is there a way to use gpu rather than cpu from wallet?

And what is the efficacy of say a quad core i-5 when searching or mining for that matter...?

Thanks and apologies if these have been discussed already.

Great post. We had just started discussing this issue as either a risk factor or a feature - in particular we were thinking that if a prize fund kept accumulating, with sufficient financial incentives and user demand, people might think about producing ASICs just to search for vanity addresses.

I would love to find a way to use a gpu to mine for a van address. Merge mining was also discussed - possibly mine SpreadX11 and a van address.

@stonehedge is awesome at testing. I think he is in the process of looking at what happens when using different processors.

Interesting that bittrex is applying for NYC BitLicences

http://www.coindesk.com/bitlicense-round-up-whos-left-standing-in-new-york/

Time to think about diversification of exchanges for SPR, until the p2p exchange is implemented.
