I think bitcoin will not be able to replace the dollar, because the money of a country is equal to the identity of a country, so bitcoin will not replace the dollar but may be equally in dollars and bitcoins.

Although the value of bitcoin now has significantly increased already this does not mean it can already replace our currency system.
Bitcoin is for online transaction only and majority of transactions are done physically so there is no sense of waiting that time to happen, just enjoy the success of bitcoin and ride on it.

We can apply the blockchain technology to FIAT or internet banking, I think the government have idea to create a currency use the blockchain technology to compete the cryptocurrency.
